Introduction

FileSync is an efficient, automated way to synchronize files without manual initiation. FileSync works with eFileCabinet Online, and allows any file from a Windows structure to sync with eFileCabinet’s online structure. It is a true sync and provides constant and effortless upload/download or upload-only syncing of all designated files. To utilize FileSync, you will need to download the FileSync Installer from the eFileCabinet Online Add-on Menu, then run a one-time, ‘catch-up’ sync. Once this initial sync has finished, future syncing will occur automatically and efficiently every 30 seconds with no user administration required.

Step Action

1 Download the FileSync Installer. This is a quick, small install requiring just 4 MB of space.

Log in to eFileCabinet Online. Click the Help Tab in the tool bar.

2 Click on the Download Add-ons option.

Once the program has finished installing, the FileSync Login Window will display. Enter the same Username and Password that you use for your eFileCabinet Online account.

Remember, this ‘catch up’ sync is a one-time process, meaning the first time you sync, it will ‘catch up’ and sync all folders/files. Once this initial sync has finished, future syncing will only capture file changes and syncing will occur on a regular and automated basis.

All files you selected in Step 9 will begin syncing. Depending on the size of the information that is syncing, this step may take 1-2 days during this initial sync. It may also potentially slow down your computer. After this initial one-time, large sync is completed, future syncing will occurr automatically and much more quickly.

As the files are syncing, you may check the status by clicking on the small, eFileCabinet cloud icon located in the system tray. Click the FileSync Cloud Icon to check your file sync status and to access syncing options.

The FileSync Settings Window will display. There are two tabs: General and Online Items.

From General Tab, you can choose:

Whether to upload and download or upload only

How often you want FileSync to poll online for changes. The default setting is every 30 seconds.

You may select to sync only between certain hours. If you notice that syncing slows your system while working on your computer, you may wish to set files to sync during hours that you are offline.

FileSync settings are defaulted to automatically start after you have logged in to Windows, and not to sync hidden files and folders. You may change both of these default settings from this screen. The Disconnect Account button lets you disconnect FileSync from your account and log in as another account. However, please note that doing this will require a complete resync, even if you log in as the same user as before. Once you have selected your settings changes, click Save.

Debug Logs

The last option available in the Pending Changes Window is the Debug Logs options. This option can be used if the file sync process experiences an error for any reason. This option is typically used by eFileCabinet’s IT department, or possibly your corporate IT department, for troubleshooting purposes. If you choose to generate a log, click on Debug logs.

A Debug Log for that date will be generated and can be reviewed for troubleshooting purposes.

23

The FileSync Folder Icon will take you to your FileSync Folder.

24

The eFileCabinet Online Icon will take you to your eFileCabinet Online account.

25

The Exit Button will close FileSync completely.
