New Library
We’re pleased to announce the opening of the new Library. Parents/carers are welcome to come
and have a
look around.
Dear Parents,
We are now in the final half term of this academic year. It has certainly
flown past but this term is full of exciting events and preparations for
the end of year. We have the Summer Fayre, the Year 6 Performance
and lots of trips and events, details of which you will find in this news
letter. Some of the Year 5 and 6 children are currently on a residential
to France and I know they will be having an exciting time. I look
forward to seeing many of you over this coming half term.
Best wishes,
Mrs. Rees.

We desperately need old newspapers to
help with Art Lessons.

We are still collecting Sainsbury’s

(please don’t staple them together).
Year 6 Evacuee Praise
On the 23rd of May the school received a call
from a member of the public who was sat on
a train going through Bitterne Train Station at
the same time as Year 6 were there as part of
their WW2 evacuee experience. He wanted to
ring and congratulate the teachers in-
volved on a) such a brilliant way of engaging
the children with history and b) their con-
duct. Well Done everyone in year 6!
Year 6 WW2 Tea Dance
Year 6 had an excellent WW2 Tea Dance to
celebrate the end of the war (they have
gone back in time and have been learning
all about WW2!) They had a fantastic time
dancing, singing and eating. Shockingly, at
the end of the celebrations, the air raid si-
ren went and children had to be evacuated.
There was nothing else for it. They went to
the train station to have a train ride back
and forth to the city, like real evacuees.

End of Year Performance: The Keymaster
This year, for the end of year production, Year 6
will be performing a spectacular play called, “The
Keymaster”. Auditions have already taken place
and the cast have been chosen. It was very hard
to choose as the talent was astounding! Chris
Sullivan has helped Beechwood with Rock Chal-
lenge and we have been lucky enough to have
him return for the end of year production to help
with the choreography of the play. Don’t miss
your opportunity to see it on Wednesday 16th
July 2014!

Promoting Progress
Please remember that we do not run clubs during the first week back after half
term and on the last week before we break up for holiday.
Due to confidentiality and noise levels, parents and siblings are unable to wait for
children inside the school building but must collect them promptly from outside
of the main reception. If it is raining, please use the cover of the bicycle com-
pound. Children will not be allowed to leave the building unless the club leader
has seen the adult/parent waiting to collect them. Homework and all other clubs
will not run on the first and last week of any term unless specified otherwise in
the original letter sent home inviting application to apply for a place. This does
not apply to privately run clubs such as the Sarah Mepham School of Dance.

Promoting Progress Does the back of your wardrobe look like this?
Why not help the school (and yourself!) by donating all your unwanted
gifts (you know, the Bubble Bath from Aunty Gladys last Christmas or
bargain handbag that doesn’t actually go with anything?) so that we can
put them in our Main Raffle at our “Wild West” Summer Fayre on Satur-
day 28th June. We would REALLY appreciate you bringing donations in
from Monday 23rd June just leave them at the Office in reception (We
won’t need Bric-a-brac this year).
We will also be running a Plant Stall on the day and would really appreciate
any donations of plants or seedlings that could be sold. Please bring in your
donations of plants from Monday 23rd June but by Friday 27th June and leave
them either in reception, or in the bike shelter outside of the reception en-
trance.
Please help to make our cake stall collapse under the sheer weight of
so many wonderful home baked goodies (OK, shop bought ones will
be equally delicious) by bringing in your donations on the morning of
Friday 27th June!
Don’t forget to complete your slip to enter your pet (sorry no dogs) or
cake, into our Pet and Cake Competitions – the last 2 year’s have been
great fun, even with an escapee! There’s a fabulous prize for the winners
(just don’t get confused there’s no such animal as a “Pineapple Upside
Down Cat”!) Please bring your pet in a suitable box.
Thank you for your support.
