Instructional mediaThis term is used to refer to “all the

devices that teachers and learners

use to support their learning”.

Educational Technology It is the study and ethical practice of facilitating learning and improving performance by creating, using and managing appropriate technological processes and resources.

1780 1920

Early public schools adopted the teacher/manager model with the teacher as the primary manger of instruction and assessment in a single classroom.

In 1920 the Radio Division of the U.S. Department of Commerce began to

license commercial and educational stations. Soon schools, colleges, departments of education, and commercial stations were providing radio programming to schools.

Language-lab headsets: Schools began to install cubicles arm s with language-lab headsets and audio tapes.Educational television: By the 1958´s there channels that included educational programming on the air.

1930

Used for the U.S military to train forces in World War I, The overhead projector eventually spread to school.

1981 1994 Personal Computer

Only seven states had official policies regarding

the implementation of computers in public

schools. At the same time, teachers began coming to

terms with the physical reality of the computer, and

learning how to take actual advantage of the machines‘

educational potential.

Internet Access in schools

Laptop computers have been suggested as a tool to

improve instruction and student learning. They helped to

increase the amount of independent and collaborative

learning. Instruction with laptops was also found to be

more student-centered in many cases.

Internet access in schools increase

With the wide use of computers, equipping students with

computer skills has become an important goal of school

systems. The development of these skills forms part of school

curricula. Appropriate goals are set at each grade level, much

as with knowledge and skills in other subject areas

Interactive whiteboard and the wiimote

Interactive whiteboards allow teachers to record their

instruction and post the material for review by students at

a later time. This can be a very effective instructional

strategy for students who benefit from repetition, who

need to see the material presented again, for students

who are absent from school, for struggling learners, and

for review for examinations.
