DESCRIPTIONEDUPSY1 provides opportunities for Educational Psychology majors to discuss contemporary issues related to the psychology of learning and teaching. This course is designed to gain strategies to better understand how diversity in our society influences student learning in the classroom. This seminar class will specifically explore issues of culture, gender, socioeconomic issues and individuals with special needs, and how these affect a students learning and behavior in the context of a Filipino classroom.

This course is designed to gain strategies to better understand how diversity in our society influences student learning in the classroom. This seminar class will specifically explore issues of culture, gender, socioeconomic issues and individuals with special needs, and how these affect a students learning and behavior in the context of a Filipino classroom. Learning Outcomes: At the end of the course, the students should be able to: LO 1 LO 2 LO 3 LO 4 LO 5 LO 6 Describe diversity in the classroom based on ones personal experiences as a student. Discuss contemporary educational issues in relation to diverse student backgrounds. Survey relevant literature on learner differences and diversity. Critically think and evaluate on relevant theories in Educational Psychology that are related to learning and teaching. Design and present a learning activity addressing diversity in the classroom. Develop a teaching philosophy that is reflective of ones value system.

Coursework Delivery Lecture-discussion on trends and issues in Educational Psychology and on some theories of cognition and learning Self-reflection with guide reflection questions Writing of critical and reflective essays to synthesize learning insights Presentation of the designed learning activity. Course Requirements Individual Learning Logs on The Learning Logs should contain insights synthesized from activities and specific topics discussed in reading the required materials/topics. class. Blog Posts Group Presentation Attendance Active Participation Students will develop and post short integrative essays in response to the topics and group discussions. The word limit is 250. Each student will post a single essay. The presentation of designed learning activity with clarity and fluidity. Active engagement during class discussions is expected. There will be regularly scheduled recitations that will allow everyone in class to present main points of the assigned materials and share insights regarding the topics discussed.
