Oct. 9 - DepartureYour pilgrimage begins as you depart the USA.

Oct. 10 - Arrive in Athens, GreeceArrive in Athens, Greece and embark on the Azamara Journey.

Oct. 11 - Philippi, GreeceVisit Philippi, where Paul, intending to find a place to pray by the riverside,spoke to women who had gathered there. Among whom was Lydia, theseller of purple and whose heart the Lord opened to hear the words thathe spoke (Acts 16:13-15). Lydia was the first Christian to be baptized onEuropean soil. Visit the place where this event is remembered and seea crypt dating from the Roman period, which is thought to have servedas a prison for the apostle Paul. See the famous Acropolis, the MarketPlace, the Basilica, and the Theater.

Oct. 12 - Pergamum, TurkeyPergamum is the location of one of the seven churches mentioned inRevelation (Rev. 2:12-17). Towering 1,000 feet above the town andcommanding a spectacular panorama is the fabled Acropolis. You willsee the foundations of the Temple of Zeus, the Temple of Athena, andthe ruins of the Library which once held 200,000 parchment volumes.You will see the remains of the Temple of Trajan, the Grand Theatre, theGymnasium, and the Health Center (Aesclepion).

Oct. 13 - Ephesus, Turkey Drive to Ephesus, the marble city where Paul spent three years of hisministry. The ruins of Ephesus have been restored much like the city wasin Paul’s time. You will visit the ancient Agora and view the Great Theater.View the terrace houses, also known as “the house of the rich,” whichgive a true impression of the ancient lifestyle. Also, visit the EphesusArchaeological Museum for a look at some of Ephesus’ most prizedartifacts.

October 14 - Patmos, GreeceWe will set sail for the Island of Patmos. Visit the Monastery of St. John,high on the mountain overlooking the entire island. Walk down to theGrotto of the Apocalypse and the caves where the exiled Apostle Johnlived, and inspired by God, wrote the book of Revelation as well as otherletters to the early church.

Oct. 15 - Rhodes, GreecePaul visited Rhodes briefly on his way to Jerusalem at the end of histhird missionary journey. Over 1,200 years later when Jerusalem fellduring the Crusades, the Knights of St. John fled to the island ofRhodes, where they ruled for two centuries. Suleiman the Magnificentfinally captured the island, but lost 50,000 men in the campaign. Thecastles and old town built by the knights are still impressive today.

Oct. 16 - Santorini, Greece (on own)Explore Santorini, one of the most beautiful of the Greek islands. Itspicturesque whitewashed villages with brilliant blue domes dot thecliffs above the Aegean Sea. The island itself perches on the edgesof a volcano whose eruption 3,500 years ago is thought to have ledto the collapse of the Minoan civilization. Shore excursions are booked through Azamara.

Oct. 17 - Athens to USADisembark the Azamara Journey and return home.

Among the ruins, we can standon the Bema where Paul defended the gospel. From a distance, viewAcrocorinth. Cross the Corinth canal, begun in Roman times, but not completeduntil the late 1800’s. Stop at the site of Cenchreae, a port city whose remainsare almost entirely under water. From here, the apostle Paul sailed for Jerusalem(Acts 18). Overnight in Athens.Oct. 10 - Athens TouringVisit the architectural splendors of the ancient Athens. Journey to the ancientAcropolis where you will see the Propylaea, the Parthenon and the Erectheum.View Mars Hill where Paul preached the gospel (Acts 17:15-34). You will alsoview the Olympic Stadium.
