Los bosques son recursos vitales, reanudables y productivos para Illinois. Más de la mitad de la flora nativade Illinois y la mitad de la flora amenazada o en peligro de extinción se encuentra en los bosques de Illinois.
Más del 75 por ciento de los hábitats de la vida silvestre del estado están en los bosques. Las industrias rela-cionadas a los bosques emplean a casi 65.000 personas en Illinois y contribuyen más de $4.5 mil millones anual-mente a la economía estatal con el valor agregado de la manufactura.

El otoño es una hermosa época del año en Illinois. Los tonos rojos,
púrpuras, anaranjados, amarillos, marrones y bronceados de las hojas
reflejan la gran diversidad de especies de árboles en nuestro estado.
Nuestra estación de colores de otoño dura varias semanas, normalmente
comenzando en los condados del norte de Illinois por la tercera o cuarta semana
de septiembre. En Illinois central los colores de las hojas comienzan a cambiar
durante la segunda semana de octubre y en la parte meridional del estado los
colores cambian en las dos últimas semanas de octubre. El pico de los colores

Trees: Seeds and Leavesposter,* the �rst volume in the treeseries, depicts and provides information about 1 5 species,mainly nut-bearing trees. The species shown on IllinoisTrees: Volume IIare commonly found throughout the state,many as ornamental plantings as well as naturallyestablished trees, and represent all four distinctive foresttypes in Illinois: bottomland forest; upland deciduousforest; coniferous forest; and southern Illinois lowlandforest.
