PM to release Rs. 18,000 crore under PM-KISANscheme to more than 9 crore farmers today

New Delhi, Dec. 24 (PIB) Prime Minister, ShriNarendra Modi will releasethe next installment offinancial benefit underPradhan Mantri KisanSamman Nidhi (PM-KISAN)tomorrow (Dec. 25) at 12 noonvia video conferencing. Withthe push of a button, the PrimeMinister will enable thetransfer of more than Rs.18,000 crores to more than 9crores beneficiary farmerfamilies.

Prime Minister will also have a conversation withfarmers from six different States during the event. Thefarmers will share their experiences withPM-KISAN and also on various other initiatives

taken by the Governmentfor the welfare of farmers.Union Agriculture Ministerwill also be present on theoccasion. Under the PM-KISANScheme, a financial benefit ofRs.6000/- per year is providedto the eligible beneficiaryfarmers, payable in three equal4-monthly installments ofRs.2000/- each. The fund istransferred directly to thebank accounts of thebeneficiaries.

Later on, she witnessed an Awareness Campaign-cum-People's Education Programme on PMEGP scheme which was organizedby the Khadi & Village Industries Board at Car Nicobar. She decided toapproach the bank for financial assistance under PMEGP scheme to setupa self-employment venture and start a general sales outlet of her own. On approval by the DLTFC, her application was forwarded to the A&NState Co-operative Bank which agreed to sanction her an amount of Rs.2,00,000. Later, she travelled to Port Blair and underwent EDP training fora period of 10 days after which she setup her unit and is running itsuccessfully, earning an amount of approximately Rs. 60,000 per month. The scheme targets the poor and rural youth in the age of 15-35 andfurther extension for upto 45 years of age for women, ParticularlyVulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs), PwDs, Transgenders and otherspecial categories. 50% of the identified youth should belong to STcategory and about 3% of beneficiaries should be Persons withDisabilities. Auto inclusion parameters deriving from SECC 2011 is usedto identify the beneficiaries including those from the family memberof a SHG, from Antyodaya Anna Yojana/ BPL household, or a MNREGAworker with atleast 15 calendar days of work in the previous year or ahouseholdwith Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) card. To supplement this, aParticipatory Identification of Poor (PIP) will also be carried out. For residential trainings, boarding and lodging facilities would be borneby the Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) and food with travel expenseswould be provided in case of non-residential training. A Migration SupportCentre shall be provided for alumni support, counselling, coordinationwith local administration. Placement support would also be provided tothe candidates and the PIAs will track the candidates for 12 months throughphysical visits or telephonic calls. The UT intends to provide skills enhancement training and placementsupport to about 3000 youth by 2022 with a target of 1500 for the currentyear. The process of mobilization of youth was done through print mediaand audio-visual media, radio and other IEC material like banners,pamphlets etc. in all three Districts by the Directorate of RD, PRIs & ULBs,Andaman & Nicobar Administration was successfully undertaken. TheKaushal Panjee in the Ministry of Rural Development, GoI website received1271 registrations in the first phase. The challenge thrown by the COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented inthe recent history of humankind and requires and needs to be addressedin ways that are both progressive and creative. In this respect, the DDU-GKY is a viable intervention that seeks to provide sustainable incomeopportunities for the rural poor while also ensuring the availability ofskilled manpower for all development works.
