Here we are at the conclusion of another awesome

year at St. Helen Catholic School. As we look over

the last 15 years it is amazing how far we have come.

On behalf of the Faculty and Staff I would like to

thank all of our awesome supporters: our students,

families, alumni, School Advisory Board, PTO, St.

Helen parishioners, and friends. Thank you all for the

amazing support you give St. Helen Catholic School.

It is a true blessing to be part of a community that is

focused on our most precious gift, our children. May

the Lord bless each of you, and keep you ever in His

grace.

Private School Interscholastic Association

Fifty students participated in PSIA this year and won the 3rd Place Trophy in the Elementary School Division of the District 11A PSIS com-petition. Seventeen students placed the District level and fifteen advanced to the State competi-tion in Ft. Worth, Texas on May 3, 2014. SHCS students brought home the following awards:

Science Fair

Eleven Middle School projects qualified for the Diocesan Science Fair at St. Dominic Savio High School. Four projects placed as follows: Team Division - 3rd Place and Honorable Mention, Life Science Division - 3rd Place, Physical Science Division - 1st Place.

Service to Others ONE GOAL OF ST. HELEN CATHOLIC SCHOOL is to help students learn to live our Catholic calling to serve those in need and to help familiarize them with the many ways they can practice serving our school, parish, local community, and the world.

St. Helen students in Grades 3 - 8 volunteered a total of

2370.25 service hours this school year!

Austin Deep Program

Twenty-three of our current Third, Fourth and fifth Graders qualified for the Austin Deep Program. To qualify, a student must achieve 95% on the IA or higher in two or more major subject areas. The Austin Deep Program em-phasizes higher-order cognitive activities utiliz-ing the seven multiple intelligences.

Athletics

SHCS is a member of the Austin Christian Athletics Association (ACAA). Our students in grades 5 through 8 compete in boys’ Flag Foot-ball, girls’ Volleyball, boys’ and girls ' Basket-ball, co-ed Soccer, and boys’ and girls’ Track. This year we walked away with champion-ships in 5/6 Flag Football, 7/8 Flag Football, 5/6 Boys’ Track, and 7/8 Co-Ed Soccer!

2016 Iowa Assessments (IA)

Based on the national average, all classes in First through Eighth Grade scored above the 50th percentile. Six of our Eight classes scored above the 75th percentile.

DUKE University Talent Identification Program

Six of our 7th Grade students qualified for the Duke University Talent Identification Program. To qualify for this honor, students must score at or above the 95 percentile on an accepted subtest or total battery/composite of a grade-level standard-ized achievements test, aptitude test, or mental-ability test. Three of those students scored high enough to be recognized at the state level!

Assessment of Catechesis and Religion Test (ACRE)

The ARCE test is administered to students nationwide in Grades Five and Eight. SHCS 5th graders scored at/above the national average and SHCS 8th graders scored above the national average in all areas.

Awards, Honors and Accomplishments

Four of our 8th graders were recognized at the Diocesan Service and

Leadership Mass.

These students collec-tively earned a total of 985.5 hours of service

Twenty-nine of our students participated in P.S.I.A. this year. Twenty-four placed at the District level and nine advanced to State compe-tition in Fort Worth. Six of those competing at State placed with one student taking 1st Place in Science!
