I have travelled across the length and breadth of India and I have not seen one person who is a beggar, who is a thief. Such wealth I have seen in this country, such high moral values, people of such calibre, that I do not think we would ever conquer this country, unless we break the very backbone of this nation, which is her spiritual and
cultural heritage, and, therefore, I propose that we replace her old and ancient education system, her culture, for if the Indians think
that all that is foreign and English is good and greater than their own, they will lose their self-esteem, their native self-culture and they will
become what we want them, a truly dominated nation.

Fruit of Education
By education we realize Truth. There are many truths. History is one truth. Geography is one truth. Mathematics is one truth. The content of truth is the greatest in Mathematics. In others there is an element of imagination. In Geography we come across names of Asia, Africa, Madras, Calcutta etc. These names were given by us. By imagination we have given names ‘Plateau’, ‘Valley’, etc. By a process of gradual elimination of all that is imaginary we arrive at the truth, that Truth is found to be God. To think of Him with real devotion is the fruit of education.

I am not for advocating this method of education in the belief that complete reform is possible and we may revert back to Gurukula system of education. Yet, my desire remains that posterity should know that there existed this type of education which was very conducive for growth of a student. For this purpose, just like antiques are kept in the museum, I want that atleast some Gurukula type of schools are opened and run. Atleast a few should be made to study under this system

10 Codes of Living
One of our duties as human beings is to avail ourselves of every opportunity to do good to others. The poor can serve others by their loyal work to the country and rich by their wealth to help others.
Life without love is a waste. Everyone should cultivate ‘Prema’ or love towards all human beings, birds and beasts.
We should utilise the days of our life time to good purpose. We should engage ourselves in acts which will contribute to the welfare of others rather than to our selfish desires.
We should perform duties that have been prescribed for our daily life and also be filled with devotion to God.
9
Man by himself cannot create even a blade of grass. We will be guilty of gross ingratitude if we do not offer first to God what we eat or wear - only the best and choicest should be offered to Him.
A person who has done a meritorious deed will lose the resulting merit if he listens to the praise of others or himself boasts of his deeds.
One attains one’s goals by performance of one’s duties. Jnana is the only solvent for our troubles and sufferings
Wealth amassed by a person whose heart is closed to charity, is generally dissipated by the inheritors; but the family of philanthropist will always be blessed by happiness.
Those who are influential can use their influence to better the conditions of the lowly. That way we can keep alive in our hearts a sense of social service.
It does no good to grieve over what has happened. If we learn to discriminate between good and evil, that will guard us from falling into evil again.

The trustees have pleasure in presenting the Annual Report for the period ended 31st March 2017. The focus during the year was to strengthen and streamline both vedic and CBSE education and expand the co-curricular activities to bring out the best in the students.
1. 28th May 2016 is a red letter day in the history of Indian education. Had the Mahaswami of Kanchi been around in his Sthoola Shareera, his benign smile would have captured the greatness of the moment. When the CBSE results of Xth Std were released on that day, Sri. Kanchi Mahaswami Vidya Mandir glittered when all the students under the dual education system and those regular students sent up for the examination passed, registering a 100% pass percentage. In a sense it certified that both the vedic and mainstream education can co-exist without any conflict. On the contrary, mainstream education improves substantially with vedic education. The highlights of the results are as under:
Sri Kanchi Mahaswami Trust Annual Report 2016-17
20
✦ 31 students comprising of 18 vedic + CBSE and 13 CBSE alone were sent up for the examination for the first time by the Vidya Mandir.
✦ All the students passed.✦ Four students secured the full score of CGPA (Cumulative Grade Points Average) of 10.0.
This includes one vedic + CBSE student.✦ The highest marks percentage obtained - 95.0% The lowest - 70.3% Average - 82.0%✦ All the students secured above 70%.✦ Weightage average CBSE alone was 85% while for CBSE + vedic was 80%.✦ Four vedic students secured CGPA above 9.0✦ Seven students secured above 90%. Of this 2 are from the vedic and CBSE stream.
Contrary to the general perception that students pursuing both vedas and CBSE are put to undue stress and long hours of work, the results bear testimony that the dual education system is an innovative experimentation that overall improves the quality of education. The fact that the average marks secured by vedic + CBSE education is above 80%, it is clear that CBSE education fuses seamlessly with vedic education. We have send signals far and wide that panacea for all the ills that plague the present day education system is the dual education system which blends Indian art, culture and tradition with any formal education system. A great step forward to preserve the culture of the land.
Several years ago, the Sage of Kanchi in one of his discourses said that the Gurukula type of education has stood the test of times in realizing the fruit of education. He was practical enough to admit that even if the Gurukula system is necessary, it may be difficult to enforce the same. He therefore said that I am not there for advocating this method of education in the belief that complete reform is possible and we may revert back to this system. Yet my desire remains that posterity should know that there exists this type of education which was

21
conducive for the growth of the students. For this purpose, just like antiques are kept in the museum, I want atleast some Gurukula types of schools are open and run. Since the English education system has been around for over 150 years, it would be in our interest to integrate our culture into the same and thereby ensure that the large number of students are not denied the benefit of Indian culture, art and tradition.
The Kanchi Mahaswami Vidya Mandir travelled beyond the desire of the Sage from a museum to a live school that gives the best of both worlds to the students. We have come this far with the divine blessings of the Sage of Kanchi and the grace and benediction of Jagadguru Sankaracharyas who adorn the venerated Sri. Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam today.
The magnetic and irresistible inspiration of the Sage of Kanchi has been perennial, persistent, pervasive and purifying the atmosphere around. The spiritual vibrations from him has chastened the universe. Such is the power of the dynamic spirituality of the Sage that he perpetually dwells in the eternal awareness of the universal self. What we are rejoicing today, we dedicate to “HIM”.

When I visited this Vidya Mandir, I felt divine vibrations. This institution not only teaches vedas to the students but also inculcates values in them. The values such as our tradition and culture are more valuable than ……the valuables we possess. I pray God to bless the institution and its children for their progress and prosperity.

My visit to the Vidya Mandir has been a revelation and a more enlightening experience. Little did I realise that in this corner of Chennai an institution in the memory of Mahaswami would show him in such a splendid fashion and still create the aura of spirituality and mysticism for which Mahaswami was known and by which he gave solace to so many. Thank you for the invitation.Dr. S. Padmanabhan

Brilliant vision! I’ve never come across a more thoughtful, more creative and more practical educational institution. The parents and children should be equally thankful and feel specially privileged at the opportunity they have been offered. On a side note “The Paramacharya and MSS exhibits should be designated as “National Treasure” and preserved as such.

It is a privilege to visit this wonderful conceptualized school. I have always said that sooner or later India will become a ‘developed country’. And, if at the same time it preserves its cultural and spiritual heritage, India will become a ‘great’ country, or more correctly restore to itself the greatness that was its in the past.

Today is truly a day of awakening for me. Through a strange series of coincidence, I made an unplanned visit to the great institution (SKMSVM). Mr Gopinath patiently showed me the entire institution. It was a mind opener and truly awe-inspiring. It has found a way to magically sythesise the great Indian vedic system/learning & modern education that seeks to create outstanding students. A huge salutation to all of you who made this possible.
