Edna Marie Lund was born on February 4, 1924 to John and Christine Klipfel. She grew up on the Rosedale Farm near Manango, North Dakota. She and her sister Adeline were the youngest daughters of John and Christine. Rosedale was a beauti- ful, well managed farm and offered many opportunities for Edna and Adeline to have adventure and get into mischief. They would ride their pony to bring in the cows and to meet their neighbor friends, Ellen and Rosemary Davis. Ednas core values were formed in these years. Values that she carried with her, her entire life. She was an earnest and sincere person. She worked hard and always tried to do her best. Edna graduated from Ellendale High School in 1942. Following High School, she went to work for MDU as a billing Clerk in Ellendale and attended Ellendale State College where she received a de- gree in English. Later she was offered the opportunity to transfer to the MDU of- fice in Mobridge, SD and the idea of leaving home became very exciting for her. To her parents however it caused great consternation. Edna left Ellendale to ex- plore a new life as a single woman. Her time in Mobridge was filled with great social life, movies, dances and eating out. It was also while living in Mobridge that Edna met Marshall Lund, a lineman for MDU. She said the minute I met him I knew he was the man that I would marry. Edna and Marshall married on October 13, 1946. In 1947 Edna became mother to Marsha Beth. Twenty years and five children later in 1967, she gave birth to James Timothy Lund. Her years raising her children were her most amazing time. She was the juggler of six children, homemaker, bookkeeper for Marshalls busi- ness, and Lund Line construction. Plus, she had an active social and church life that included Bridge Club, Handy Homemakers Extension Club, church circle, Ladies Aid, Sunday School Teacher, choir and bowling. Edna was an excellent cook and learned to make Lefse for her Norwegian husband. She baked wonder- ful pies, bread and rolls. She made many special Holiday meals and hosted many large family gatherings. Family was very important to Edna and she made a com- mitment to make a trip to Ellendale and the Rosedale Farm every year to keep in touch with family and friends from that area. After her youngest son Jimmy entered school she went to work for the Walworth Co. Clerk of Courts Office as a Deputy Clerk. She enjoyed her work and office mates. She retired in 1987. Following retirement, she made sure she had a plan for each day and was never bored. She lived entire adult life in Selby and was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church. She is survived by six children, Marsha Lundberg of Stockholm, SD, Charlene (Jim Ackerman) of Pierre, SD, Kenton (Katheryn) Lund of Little Rock, AK, Rob- ert (DiAnna) Lund of Mankato, MN, Mary (Kevin) Beck of Watertown, MN, and James (Amy) Lund of Bismarck, ND, Grandchildren, Brittany Beck, Alyssa Sauerer, Shera Gleason, Alex Lund, Maty Lund, Nathan and Aaron Lund, and 7 great grandchildren. Edna Lund

  • A Mother’s Farewell to Her Children

    When I must leave you for a little while,

    Please do not grieve and shed wild tears

    And hug your sorrow to you through the years,

    But start out bravely with a gallant smile;

    And for my sake and in my name

    Live on and do all things the same.

    Feed not your loneliness on empty days,

    But fill waking hour in useful ways,

    Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer

    And I in turn will comfort you and hold you near,

    And never, never be afraid to die,

    For I am waiting for you in the sky!

    Love Mom
