Meeting Minutes

March 8, 2014

Call to Order – 8:35

Present: Dick Van Hollebeke, Michelle Martin, Jerry Fireman, Larry Thomas. Club member Mike Martin

was also present.

MSP to approve the minutes of the February 1, 2014 meeting as previously distributed.

Treasurer’s Report: Positive comments on format. The balance in the bank was $6,441.85.

The club has to pay sales tax for previously sold merchandise. This also resulted in a fine of $35.00. We

have 55 members and friends in the club. MSP to approve the Treasurer’s Report.

Old Business

1. Workshop: 49 slots are taken of 72 openings. This will be held on April 5 & 6 with Dan Feaster.

2. League: We have 8 teams and we hope to have 12 teams. This will be held April 28 – June 28.

Jerry asked for scheduling advice. No team will play more than three nights a week. The

options: 1. Schedule people to play, 2. Self-scheduling, 3. A half-way position in that if a team

can’t meet the assigned time they could reschedule at a more convenient time. The Board felt

the 3rd option was the best.

The League play will take precedence over casual play and a poster saying “In order to facilitate

the League play please allow League games to be on the courts.”

A handmade trophy was suggested for the overall champion and this would be rotated year by

year. Michelle and Jerry can spend up to $120 for other prizes.

3. Chamber of Commerce at the Market on June 28. Communication of this information will be e-

mailed to members. We need volunteers.

This led to the idea of having a very brief newsletter seeking volunteers about a Chamber of

Commerce, the Dan Feaster Workshop, and League information. Michelle will handle this.

4. Karen Crabb and David Rockwell have accepted to serve on the Board.

New Business

1. Rick Steves is allowing a poster and flyers at his March 22 Travel Festival.

2. Brandon prepared a Bastille Day poster and Jack Cowan will have copies at the Frenchfest at the

Seattle Center. This poster will be placed around town.

Larry Thomas was recognized for his work on the Storage Room. The Park Department is installing a

Sani-Can for use by players. This will be located behind a privacy partition near the stadium.

Michelle reported on the room available at the Harbor Inn. They will cater the dinner for the FPUSA

tournament. And they have a meeting room. A caterer (perhaps the BBQ group) will be obtained. This

is a way the EPC has been of help to this tournament.

Dick, Sam, and Michelle are bringing coffee and a coffee cake to the Park workers to say thanks for all

the work being done for our club.

Come play pétanque Saturday at the Edmonds Civic Center Playfield at 230 6th Ave N.

There will be experienced players to show you how to play, and we have spare

boules for you to use. The invitation is sincere, the folks are friendly, and

believe me… pétanque is addictive. You may even learn a French word or two.

The town slogan is “It's an Edmonds Kind of Day.” You have already

enjoyed the town and the Rick Steves Seminars. There is one more very

French thing to do to truly enjoy your Edmonds Kind of Day.

from the Club. Find out how by sending an
