Scholarship Program – accomplishments & goals for the future

The EAFF Scholarship Program began in 1983 with a $1,000 award to one

student. It soon grew to $10,000 in annual scholarships. For the 2013-2014

school year, $22,500 was awarded to a total of seventeen students.

Scholarships now range from $500 to $2000; the $500 awards go to students

just entering the program and the $2000 awards go to students in their fourth

year or working on a Masters degree.

These scholarships are available to students within the Edmonds School Dis-

trict boundaries seeking full-time post-secondary education in the Visual Arts.

For more information on this program please go to www.eaffoundation.org

“I appreciate the support that the Foundation has given me these past few years and

look forward to someday being able to lend my financial support to this Organization.”

Goal for the near future - With rising cost of college or art school

tuitions, our goal is to award larger scholarships to meet that need. We

hope to award up to $5000 for a fourth year or Masters degree student.

Dr. Hernandez, President of Edmonds

Community College, speaks at the 2013

EAFF Scholarship Reception.

Scholarship recipient Elise Butters pre-

sents a piece of her work at the reception.

“BECAUSE OF YOU!” “BECAUSE OF YOU!” in the last five years EAFF has awarded over $225,000 in

Scholarships and Grants back into our community.

Visual Arts Idea Grants - Arts in the Classroom

Many art projects in Edmonds classrooms begin with a Visual Arts Idea Grant

from EAFF. Each fall, teachers are invited to apply for financial assistance for

visual arts related projects.

The purpose of these grants is to promote and encourage opportunities in the

visual arts for K-12 students. Applications are funded up to $1,000.

The budget for Visual Arts Idea Grants has remained at approximately

$14,000 per year. Schools/classroom budgets for arts programming and sup-

plies have continued to decrease.

The goal for the near future is to increase the budget to $25,000 for

Visual Arts in the classroom for schools in Edmonds School District.

“AMS has a one of a kind fused glass program in the state of Washington. We could never have

built, expanded, refined, and/or sustained this program without your continued support.”

Community Grants

Grants are provided to non-profit arts organizations including the Edmonds

Community College Visual Arts Department, Community Workshop, City of

Edmonds Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, Edmonds Center for the

Arts and other non-profit organizations that have the ability to work with arts

needs which enhance the educational opportunities for various segments of the

community.

Grants funded through this process are generally $3,000 or less per project,

often allowing for several organizations to work together for the benefit of the

broader community.

Goal - To bring the budget for this area of programming back to the

pre-2010 level of $15,000 (currently $10,000) which allowed for as-

sistance in arts education including performing and literary arts.

including (left) maintenance of public art to ensure major sculptures in the Public Art

Collection are well protected, (center) SR 99 International District Enhancement and (right)

the “Stages of History” Walking Tour.

Public Art Program

EAFF has a long history of supporting the community image with financial

assistance for public art to the City of Edmonds Cultural Services Division

& Edmonds Arts Commission. Each project has been a long-term effort to

give back to our community in the form of large scale, quality works of art

to further the identity of Edmonds as an Arts Community.

Goal - to increase available funding for large scale support of pro-

jects which enhance the identity of Edmonds as an arts community.

“Locals” by Georgia Gerber

Goal - have ArtWorks be financially self-sufficient. Donations will

help us increase the annual budget.

ArtWorks

As a joint project of EAFF & EAF, ArtWorks opened in 2004 - the mis-

sion to make the visual arts accessible via a gathering place for artists.

ArtWorks is in use an average of 5 days out of 7 for open studio, classes,

weekend workshops, meetings and exhibit space. It is the headquarters for

Artists Connect, Write On Calligraphers, jurying area for Women Painters

of WA, events for Plein Aire Painters of WA as well as EAF & EAFF.

“BECAUSE OF YOU!” “BECAUSE OF YOU!” -- ArtWorks & EAFF programs continue to grow.

The 2014 Community Cultural Plan has

specified projects for consideration over

the next six years. As a community part-

ner EAFF is hopeful to provide assistance

and input for the next public art plans in

this community.
