Welcome to our May issue of Edmond Active Magazine! With this issue, the 5th issue of the magazine, we are humbled at the amount of reader support we have received in the form of not being able to keep the magazine in stock! And, we’d like to thank local businesses for supporting the magazine so that we may bring it you every month. With more and more support coming, it’s proving that Edmond really was ready for a new and fresh outlook! Thanks again for your support, it’s your magazine! With that being said, this month’s theme, if you will, is Inspiration!

In this issue, we are highlighting local high school Spring Sports. With Sante Fe leading the state in baseball, we thought these kids really deserved their props! Keep up the great work Sante Fe! As well, 9 Edmond high school students, that staff the Ruff Draft high shcool section in the local newspaper, were awarded Marshall Gregory Awards, the highest journalistic honor the Oklahoma Education Association awards for integrity in educational journalism. Way to go again to Edmond’s high school students! Another inpiration to us all and reason we should be so proud to live in Edmond! And in the vain of inspiration, this month’s feature on Heide Brandes tells the tale of living your life to it’s fullest, and that she does! .

With Spring in full bloom, here in Edmond, we have ventured out to some of the newer spots, and some old, covering events in and

around Edmond. Some include the Festival of the Arts, Paint Your Art Out and live music events at Vintage Timeless Coffee.

Our My Home columnist Jennifer Hicks CID of Designing Diva Interiors tells the story of a young modern Edmond family, their adventure of moving to Heritage Hills and refurbishing & decorating a historical home. It’s a fantastic story about keeping the historical integrity of a home and having it be modern and funtctional, at the same time.

Our My Yard columnist, Bruce Maxwell of Maxwell Landscaping, let’s you know everything you should be doing next to ensure a beautiful yard and garden and how to keep it weed, disease & pest free coming into the summer months. Our columnist Chris Marlatt of Body Language Fitness gives you tips on how to get the kinks out!

Also, don’t forget to check out the Events Calendar’s for local events & music and if you’d like to join the conversation with us online, we are at Twitter & Facebook at EdmondActive! And, be sure to visit EdmondActive.com daily for Around Edmond, features & more!

There are a few businesses that provide meals to go and give you the ability to make your own meals to take home which are ready to cook. Credit is a Moving TargetBy Ryan HukillPlatinum Partners at Paradigm AdvantEdge

Although the powers that be had no problem lending money to everyone with a pulse just a few short years ago, it’s a completely different ball game today, perhaps a dart game.

We all know that each year our credit score becomes increasingly important to our overall financial picture, by way of interest rates, insurance premiums, utility bills, and other opportunities, but in today’s lending climate, things are unpredictable, even to those who spend every day immersed in mortgage applications.

That unpredictability can be, and has been, a stumbling block for some folks. One recent example is a couple who decided to build a custom home in Oklahoma City. At the time of their initial mortgage application, their credit was marginal, but good enough to get an approval, at which point they signed the contract to build and put their current home on the market.

As their builder approached the last 30 days of construction, and their current home went under contract for sale, we all scrambled to get them to closing, but their credit situation had changed since their initial approval, compromising their ability to purchase their new home. Add to that, their current home was under contract for sale, so now they find themselves looking for a place to rent, until they’re able to restore their creditworthiness.

So, *here are a few things* you need to know as you head down the road of selling and buying:

- Since the credit meltdown, guidelines and requirements have been, and still are, rapidly changing, requiring stronger credit ratings and larger down-payments in many cases.

- There are no guarantees with an ‘approval,’ but choosing a reputable, local lender with whom you can work face-to-face will help reduce the possibility of being surprised as you approach closing.

- Once you’re approved, you should not open ANY new lines of credit, nor should you increase your credit balance on any existing lines of credit. This can swing your debt-to-income ratio enough to jeopardize your approval.

Situations like the one I described above aren’t the norm, but they’re not outside the realm of possibility either, so it’s more important than ever to take the advice of professional, local, trusted advisors, and do everything possible to insure that you’re in a strong purchasing position.

I’ve come to the conclusion that most of life is just like dating–the job search, climbing the corporate ladder, or working as a consultant. Generally speaking in life everyone is out to make a connection, a sale, more money, or their soul mate. The law of attraction is widely accepted and thought of in a romantic context. And since most business relationships require a form of emotion, attraction, or connection between two people–a buyer and a seller. I call this “the Law of Business Attraction.”

The Law of Attraction became widely popular after the release of The Secret, a 2006 film by Australian television writer and producer Rhonda Byrne. Byrne followed up the film with a bestselling book of the same title and appeared on a series of talk shows in 2007. The law of attraction refers to an idea that thoughts influence chance. Most of us have had a chance encounter after missing their flight or someone stiffing you for dinner. Simply stated the law of attraction says that if you want someone bad enough, things just happen to go your way.

And unlike The Secret’s three step process–Ask, Believe, and Receive I have found that in The Law of Business Attraction there are four stages:

• Know. Understand and know what you want, how, why, and when. Otherwise you might ask for a pony when you should have asked for a horse farm and stable or worse yet not having a rough plan or idea of how to accomplish your goal.

• Ask. Whether it’s asking yourself, your spouse, God or the universe this is where is all begins. Asking is best accomplished by putting paper to pen or keyboard to computer. Let the universe and yourself know you are serious about your goals and intentions.

• Believe. Act, feel, and behave as you already have what you have asked for. To me Believe simply is “Fake it till you make it” so do it.

• Receive. These are subtle messages from the universe that result in those seemingly chance encounters. Be ready.

In business, this chance encounter goes from connection to transaction and often very quickly. The seller offers a product or service (consulting, expertise, software) while the buyer is in need of a certain product or service to improve or grow their business. Outside of the motivation or belief that something will happen, the transaction begins with a connection, a passing glance, confidence, and a well-rehearsed business pitch.

Spring Has SprungGet with it!

Spring has finally arrived! I love it! I love it! I love it! Let’s put our shorts and flip flops on and have some fun!

1. Now is the time to apply a post emergent weed control to your warm season grasses.

2. Cool season grasses can be fertilized again. If you didn’t fertilize in March, do so now. Warm season grasses can be fertilized in May.

3. Seeding of warm season grasses: Bermuda grass, buffalo grass, zoysia grass are all better seeded in mid May through the end of June.

4. Dollar spot disease of lawns can first become visible in mid May. Make sure fertilizer applications have been adequate before ever applying a fungicide.

5. Nut sedge plants become visible in the month of May. Apply a post emergent such as MSMS or Manage to the unwanted plants. Annual bedding plants can be safely planted after mid April. There is a good selection at local nurseries.

6. Start mowing your grass if you haven’t already. Cutting heights should be 1 to 1 ½ inches for Bermuda grasses now. Fescue can be a bit taller.

7. Be alert for insect pests and predators. Some can be hand picked without using a pesticide.

8. Remove any winter damaged branches of plants that have not befun to grow by late April.

9. Clean out water gardens and prepare for the season. Divide and repot water garden plants.

10. Begin feeding fish when the temperatures are over 50 F.

11. Soak newly transplanted and newly planted trees, unless rainfall is abundant.

Again, I love springtime. It’s my favorite time of the year. Get out and enjoy the sunshine and natures beauty. I promise, it will make you feel wonderful. Until next time, enjoy the color the Roses are getting ready to bless us with.

Bruce Maxwell has owned and operated Maxwell Landscape Company since 1986. If you have any questions for Bruce, give him a call at 405-478-8883.

Something Old, Something NewDesigning an Historical Residence for a Modern Family

The first time I met the Weeks family it was in August of 2008 and they were unhappy with the main living areas in their home. Their furnishings were very nice but did not meet their current needs or reflect the personalities of anyone in this young family of four. Over the course of the next several months we made many changes ranging from the obscure to the dramatic as part of our plan to make their home feel more personable and unique. The results were shocking. The family was thrilled with the new look and they weren’t the only ones. A family friend admired the home so much that she offered to buy it – and it wasn’t even on the market.

The price and timing was right so the family packed up and landed in the historic Heritage Hills area of Oklahoma City where they fell in love with a 100 year old house that exuded character from its every pore. I was honored when Janet Weeks hired Designing Diva Interiors, LLC once again to work on a new challenge: Turn this so-so Victorian into a multitasking hub that fit this family’s every need and the personal style of each individual.

Six months had gone by since the completion of their Edmond residence so it was essential that these needs be reassessed before any design could be carried out. So what did that look like? For entrepreneur dad and business man Alex that looked like a secluded and well

organized home office. For busy bee mom Janet it looked like a home that could serve as both a retreat from her hectic career and as a place to entertain family and friends. Their two young boys were both musicians and athletes and this called for a fully furnished basement where they could hangout with friends and practice their instruments without disturbing the peace. Edmond Active had some questions about this project and I was excited to share the story of this Edmond family’s adventure of creating their perfect home!

This house has tons of potential! Where did you start? Timing played a huge role with this particular project. The family closed just days before Thanksgiving so once I pinned down details like any changes in style the family wanted to express, a desired budget and which pieces would be moving from the old house, I knew we had to get the dining room completed right away. While the client wasn’t sure what the details would look like one thing was certain. She knew what she wanted the end result to be. With family coming in for the holidays this wide open space downstairs appealed to her for one reason: it would allow multiple people to ebb and flow easily throughout this main living area and could easily accommodate two people having a conversation by the fireplace while others indulged by the buffet and kids played games on the sofas. The real work began on moving day. As movers delivered

the family’s belongings I was in the perfect position to make a “shopping list” of items needed, take measurements of every nook and cranny and start creating an overall vision for each room. This house called for the perfect blending of old and new. The family leaned towards the modern but had just purchased a very traditional home complete with hardwood floors, swinging servant’s doors and fully functional ornate radiators. Because of the impending holiday dinner the dining room, with its abounding natural light, 11’ ceilings and giant crown molding, was a natural starting point. For our touch of “new” I replaced the dated wallpaper will a classic yet dramatic black and white damask pattern and purchased a black 72” dining table to comfortably seat eight. We got the “old” when the family’s heirloom piano arrived and was placed in the center of the action. To tie it all together I purchased a demilune buffet that had every bit of character it needed to match the home’s 1907 architecture. It only looks like it came with the house but is actually a new piece from Bruno’s Home Furnishings. Because of the open layout of these front room and the large glass front door guests are immediately “wowed” and made to feel welcome before they even enter the home, giving the client exactly what she wanted.

Most people would not have put these pieces of furniture together, or these colors. What

made you do it? This house looks old on the exterior but it now hosts a young, active family whose tastes are anything but. I wanted to bring a lot of personality out with this design- both that of the residents and of the home itself. Mixing old with new was the only solution. Some pieces, like the sofas, are new and more modern, while the artwork and many of the accessories are from a different era. The color selection was partially driven by what they had liked in their old house. When we redecorated that one I introduced turquoise as the accent color and they were surprised by how much they liked it. With so many great rooms to play with here I knew I could incorporate their new favorite color along with some classics for a sophisticated yet relaxed environment. The black and white wallpaper in the dining room is a classic color combination that goes with just about anything, and even though you can see all of the front rooms (and their colors) from the door, they work as a team. I think even I was surprised at how well it all came together! But that’s the beauty to shopping for your rooms over time and at different locations. You end up with a layered, collected look rather than an “Everything matches because it came off of the same shelf ” look. Those eggplant sitting chairs by the fireplace not only encourage friendly conversation but they also serve as a transition color between the neutral colors of the living room to the stark contrasts of the dining room.

Those built-in bookcases in the living room are huge. Were they a challenge? They were actually a gift in every way but one. When it came to deciding how to arrange the seating in these front two rooms that wall of shelves seemed to stick its tongue out at us. The width is perfect for a sofa to sit flush against it but that posed multiple issues. One being the heater vent that is built in to the bookcase. Any upholstery that got too close was a fire hazard. And then there was the issue of an odd furniture layout. Leaving the sofa facing the front door head on made the owners feel as if they were just sitting and waiting for someone to show up all the time (there is no TV downstairs) and any other seating we used seemed cut off from that one wall.

After a brainstorming session we decided to purchase the loveseat that matched the new sofa and place both pieces at an angle rather than backed straight up to the walls. We also positioned the four eggplant chairs across the room in a square so that there were essentially two conversation areas. Not only did this layout still allow people to talk easily to one another from across the room, it kept the bookcase as the focal point. We got lucky that it went all the way to the ceiling.

Once we got past the furniture arrangement decorating the shelves was easy. They vary in

height which is ideal in my opinion. This was the perfect place to show even more of the family’s personalities. Books that portrayed the Alex’s hobbies and interests. Photos of the boys from younger years, coral from various oceans and trinkets passed down to Janet from women in her family before her. Eventually the back of the bookcase will be painted in some shade of brown; something in the coffee family, to help each of the items pop and stand out even more- like what the background is to the subject in a photograph. I felt like the house had given us this favor; like it knew that this would be needed to pull our vision of mixing old and new together.

We have much to do throughout the remaining rooms but with five months under our belts the vision only gets clearer and the excitement builds. One of the things that I love about this home is that it gives us the liberty to break the rules. It is quite possible that there may not be a stopping point with a home like theirs. The possibilities are endless and the room for trying out new ideas that express the family’s style as it evolves over the years is infinite. As it’s residents’ needs change, this house is kind enough to change with it while always remaining true to its original architecture. I cannot wait to see how far the Weeks family pushes this home’s boundaries! I just hope I am lucky enough to come along for the ride…again.

Oklahoma 6A Baseball State Ranking W-L-T1. Santa Fe 26-3-02. Owasso 23-5-03. Jenks 27-7-04. Broken Arrow 19-5-05. Putnam City North 18-5-06. Mustang 14-4-07. Yukon 25-9-08. Edmond Memorial 18-7-09. Page 12-5-010. Bixby 15-8-026. Edmond North 8-16-0

For the second year in a row the three high school baseball teams from Moore met the three high school teams from Edmond at the Bricktown Ballpark for a day-long tournament dubbed The Battle of the Brick. The format was simple; each team from Edmond played one game against a Moore team and at the end of the day which ever city won the most games was the winner of the Mayors Cup. As an added benefit, the money collected at the ticket office was split up between the six schools participating.

The cool thing about this tournament is that the teams get to play in a big league

setting, in a professional stadium. For a lot of these players it’s the closest they will ever get to playing on a big league stage.NORTH

Last year Moore won the Battle of the Brick and this year the Edmond teams were anxious for a little pay back.. However, things didn’t go quite as planned for Edmond North in the first game of the day. North was shut out in a 6-0 romp by the Southmoore SaberCats and their pitcher, Holden Collins. Collins was just on fire and only allowed six hits for the Huskies, all singles.MEMORIAL

Next up it was Edmond Memorial facing Westmoore. Memorial’s sluggers dominated the game with a total of 22 hits. The biggest bat for the Bulldogs was Austin Beck-Hill who got 4 hits and ran in 3 RBIs. In fact almost the entire Bulldog lineup had more than 1 hit. Landon Jones led the team in RBIs by batting in four of his teammates. Alex Hill pitched a great game too. He struck out seven and only allowed 4 hits. Memorial topped Westmoore 15-2.SANTA FE

While Santa Fe didn’t have the big bat game that Memorial did, they still dominated their game with Moore nonetheless. Santa Fe got on the board in the first inning with two runs then backed it up with another run in the second. They scored two more runs later in the game. Clayton Blackburn was on the mound for the Wolves for six of the seven innings and struck out eight Moore batters. The final score was Santa Fe 5, Moore 1. The win clinched the Mayors Cup for Edmond.

On a side note, Santa Fe is currently ranked number 1 in the state in 6A baseball.

On our journey through life we all get the opportunity to meet some truly amazing and interesting people. You know, the kind of people who don’t think life is a spectator sport. The ones who participate and are always on their way to the next great adventure. They live each day like it’s their last and inspire others to do the same

Heide Brandes is just that kind of person. Hers is a life less ordinary. She is active in many ways and never content, it seems, just sitting on the sidelines. Her day job is running media relations for the Salvation Army. She is also a freelance journalist with a journalism degree from UCO. She is also a Professional Belly Dancer and instructor, a Medieval Archer for the Wolfstar clan in the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) and her latest hobby is Hang Gliding.

“Being a journalist is the best job in the world.” Says Heide. “You never know what you’re going to do that day, but you know you’re going to do something! It could be anything from interviewing a celebrity to covering an overturned pig truck on the highway, watching the police trying to round up the pigs. And you just get to meet so many fascinating people.” As a journalist Heide stays very busy and her work can be seen in many of the publications in and around Oklahoma City.

Her work as a journalist is what led her to her current position at he Salvation Army, where she handles media relations and PR. “I love working for the Salvation Army,” explains Heide, “because the stuff we do actually makes a difference in peoples lives.” Whenever there’s a disaster in the surrounding area it’s Heide’s job to be on site coordinating the media and helping them with their coverage while the Salvation Army assists in disaster relief.

Aside from her professional life, it’s Heide’s extra curricular activities

that really caught our attention. For instance, for the past 18 years Heide has been a participant in the SCA—a network of groups that like to dress up in 17th century garb, camp out and recreate medieval battles. “The SCA is nothing like that movie Role Models.” Heide explains. “Everyone in the SCA is really into the history of the medieval times and try very hard to be as accurate to the period as possible in the way they dress and act. Plus it’s a lot of fun and the people are wonderful.”

Every year the SCA hosts a massive battle in Mississippi called Gulf Wars where clans from all over the region gather and do battle. “Gulf Wars is amazing.” Heide tells us. “We get anywhere from 3 to 6 thousand people there and the battles are an awesome sight.” Contributing to the battle for her Wolfstar clan, Heide serves as an archer—hurling soft-tip arrows at the enemy—while her comrades fight with wooden swords, spears, hammers and axes. Seriously, what could be more fun than that?

Her involvement in the SCA is what led Heide into her next adventure...Belly Dancing. “As part of the festivities at SCA events we would often have Belly Dancers,” Heide explains, “and I always thought that it looked like a lot of fun.” As with everything else that Heide does, she jumped head-first into Belly Dancing, took the time to learn the trade and is now dancing professionally at Hookah joints all over the city. She is also an instructor, teaching the next generation of dancers.

Never content to sit idly by, Heide has recently started hang gliding. But that just makes us wonder what her next big adventure will be—fighter pilot? Or...astronaught? The sky is literally the limit for Heide Brandes.

SELF-MYOFASCIAL RELEASE (SMR)Your body works as one with itself. So if you’re tight in one

area than your probably overcompensating in another. When you

overcompensate your body try’s to protect itself by creating muscle

spindles, (knots). In order to get those knots out you need to foam

roll over them to release what is called the Golgi tendon organ. When

the Golgi tendon organ is stimulated by pressure from the foam roll it

relaxes the deep knots that create all of those postural distortions.

When foam rolling.....roll down the area an inch per sec stopping at

the tender spots for 20 - 30 sec. Sometimes if its not to painful you can

rock back a forward on the tender spots to get a more intense stretch.

Planning a wedding reception is no small task, and the venue is one of the most important choices. If you don’t have a venue, it is hard to set the date for your wedding and it is important for this to be one of the first things you set, because a lot of venues book a year in advance. So the best advice I can give is to plan ahead, if you start looking early, you will have more choices in the planning of your wedding. In looking at venues, one of the most important questions is the size; how many guests will be able to attend? No matter how beautiful a place may be, it has to be able to hold the amount of guest you anticipate coming to your reception. After

you decide on the venue, then you will need to start planning for the reception. Take your time and decide how you want your reception to represent you and your groom. Do you want to incorporate certain colors, or have a theme? Do you want traditional or contemporary? These are just a few of the many brainstorming questions that should be analyzed before you begin searching.

While being a wedding planner, I’ve worked with Gaillardia Country Club, as a venue for wedding or a reception, and it has so much to offer brides from the lavish and gorgeous ballrooms to the majestic gazebo. The catering is wonderful and their staff is professional and experienced. The

brides who have chosen Gaillardia for their wedding reception feel they received their dream wedding. Along with giving brides information concerning Gaillardia, I will be presenting a chic romantic tabletop deign for a reception at Gaillardia that is grandiose and contemporary. Eventures and New Leaf florist worked with me to design this tabletop for a wedding reception that shows brides a contemporary tabletop in this elegant venue. Mary Ellen, owner of Eventures says “Gaillardia is so beautiful that it naturally lends itself to fabulously elegant events. However, the opportunities are endless at Gaillardia. It is all about one’s imagination and vision.”

Cathy Steinman; Catering Sales Manager is the person you need to contact to book your wedding event at Gaillardia Country Club. Here are some of Cathy’s recommendations concerning weddings and receptions at Gaillardia:

o Gaillardia Country Club is a Private Country Club catering to members and their guests; however, when it comes to Weddings & Events at Gaillardia we are more than happy to discuss booking an event with a person that is not a member. A member sponsor is preferred, but not necessary.

o For booking a wedding or reception at Gaillardia the bride needs to book as soon as she knows her wedding date. The preferred wedding Months, May-June-July, can book up a year in advance.

o The ballroom can accommodate 250 people for a sit down dinner and 350 for a reception. The Ballroom offers an outdoor terrace with a fire pit for additional seating for your guests.

o Catering Services available: On Site Ceremony, Wedding Reception, Rehearsal dinner and Bridal Showers/Luncheons.

o Gaillardia does not require a bride to have a wedding planner but it is strongly recommended. A wedding planner has the knowledge and expertise to assist a bride on her wedding planning and especially on her wedding day. Steinman says “I think as long as a bride has a Wedding Planner or someone that can take over the day of she will be pleased at how wonderful her “Special” day will be”.

o Cathy Steinman likes to meet the Bride & Groom first and give them a tour of Gaillardia. Gaillardia has a Wow factor and she loves to see their faces as they take a tour. After they decide to book their wedding/reception she gives them a confirmation with a time line as to when Gaillardia needs certain information and a contract asking for a non-refundable deposit that will go towards their reception. Then they continue to work from that time on all the details concerning the wedding.

o The best part of scheduling your Wedding Reception at Gaillardia is, of course, the ambiance,

and knowing that the bride and groom will receive top notch service in a beautiful venue.

The grandeur design and loveliness of Gaillardia gives a wedding couple all they could hope for in a venue for their reception or wedding. If you would like to contact D’Plazzo to plan your wedding call (405) 401-8994 or visit our website www.dplazzo.comRECEPTION TABLE

Protect Your Skin: Wear SunscreenBy Dr. Andrea Miller

Protect Your Skin While Enjoying the

Great Outdoors!

Sunscreens are chemical agents that help prevent the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation from reaching the skin. Two types of ultraviolet radiation, UVA and UVB, damage the skin and increase your risk of skin cancer.

UVB is the chief culprit behind sunburn and skin cancer, while UVA rays, which penetrate the skin more deeply, are responsible for the effects of aging. They also exacerbate the carcinogenic effects of UVB rays. Sunscreens vary in their ability to protect against UVA and UVB. What Is SPF?

SPF, Sun Protection Factor, is a measure of a sunscreen’s ability to prevent UVB from damaging the skin. Most sunscreens with an SPF of 15 or higher do an excellent job of protecting against UVB. What’s with the number, 15, 45, 30? If it takes 20 minutes for your unprotected skin to start turning red, using an SPF 15 sunscreen theoretically prevents reddening 15 times longer — about five hours. But there are problems with the SPF model: First, no sunscreen, regardless of strength, should be expected to stay effective longer than two hours without reapplication. Second, “reddening” of the skin is a reaction to UVB rays alone and tells you little about what UVA damage you may be getting. Who Should Use Sunscreen?

Anyone over the age of six months should use a sunscreen daily. Even those who work inside are exposed to ultraviolet radiation for brief periods throughout the day. Children under the age of six months should not be exposed to the sun. Shade and protective clothing are the best ways to protect infants from the sun. What Type of Sunscreen Should I Use?

The answer depends on how much sun exposure you’re anticipating. In general, a broad-spectrum sunscreen offering protection against both UVA and UVB rays is recommended. Many after-shave lotions and moisturizers have a sunscreen (usually SPF 15 or greater) already in them, and this is sufficient for everyday activities with a few minutes here and there in the sun. However, if you work outside or spend a lot of time outdoors, you need a stronger, water-resistant type.

Many of the sunscreens available in the US today combine several different active chemical sunscreen ingredients in order to provide broad-spectrum protection. Check the label for at least one of these three active ingredients in each category. PABA derivatives, salicylates, and/or cinnamates (octylmethoxycinnamate and cinoxate) for UVB absorption; benzophenones (such as oxybenzone and sulisobenzone) for shorter-wavelength UVA protection; and avobenzone (Parsol 1789), ecamsule (MexorylTM), titanium dioxide, or zinc oxide for the remaining UVA spectrum. How Much Sunscreen Should I Use and How Often Should I Apply?

To ensure that you get the full SPF of a sunscreen, you need to apply 1 oz – about a shot glass full. Studies show that most people apply only half to a quarter of that amount, which means the actual SPF they have on their body is insufficient. During a day at the beach, one person should use around one half to one quarter of an 8 oz. bottle. Sunscreens should be applied 30 minutes before sun exposure to allow the ingredients to fully bind to the skin.

Reapplication of sunscreen is just as important as putting it on in the first place, so reapply the same amount every two hours, as well as immediately after swimming, toweling off, or sweating a great deal.

Enjoy a healthy lifestyle and the great outdoors. Wear sunscreen!
