This application note details the improvements made to the AAF workflow between EDIUS version 7.4 from Grass Valley, a Belden Brand, and Pro Tools from Avid.

OverviewPro Tools from Avid is one of the most widely used audio production tools. With the introduction of EDIUS version 7.4, the AAF workflow with Pro Tools has been significantly improved. This application note details these improvements.

Required Tools

• EDIUS(v7.40)

• ProTools(v11.2.1)

Workflow

1) Import your source files into EDIUS and edit as normal.

3) The Project Exporter (AAF) dialog box appears – complete as follows:

• [Filename]:Enteryourfilename

• [Saveastype]:AAFFile(*.aaf)

• [Preset]:Type1

Press [Save].

2) When you have finished editing, ex-port as AAF. Select [File] > [Export Project] > [AAF].

4) Start Pro Tools and select [Open Session…].

6) Check AAF file information and click [OK].

5) Select exported AAF file.

7) Save a session file.

8) Check the session data and click [OK].

9) The session imported from EDIUS is shown, and you can begin to edit the audio clips.

Note: The default start timecode of Pro Tools is 00:00:00:00. If your EDIUS project is set differently — e.g., 01:00:00:00 — the clips may not be visible on the screen.

11) Select [WAV] in File Type, check that the other settings are to your preference and click [Bounce].

10) When you have finished editing, export all audio tracks as a WAV file.

Select [File] > [Bounce to] > [Disk…]

12) Import the WAV file exported from Pro Tools into EDIUS.

14) Mute the audio tracks which were used prior to exporting the AAF.

15) Make any final edits and export. If you would like to edit the audio again, export as AAF and repeat the procedure above.

13) Place the WAV file onto a new au-dio track.
