Help Wanted

I remember a call twenty years ago from Joe Bunnett to serve on the Editorial Advisory Board of a new journal. Knowing Joe, ac- ceptance was an easy decision. Such knowledge, however, made my decision to accept this editorship extremely difficult-he is a very hard act to follow.

Thus your new editor plans no changes. Maintaining Accounts as the premier chemistry journal for timely short reviews is an over- whelming challenge for the present. The increasing diversity of chemistry makes narrow specialization an even more serious problem. Those most active in chemical research are also those most in need of a convenient, authoritative way to stay abreast in a broad range of scientific areas.

I t is you, these scientists, to whom I appeal for help in identifying promising new scientific areas and their leaders who could prepare lively reviews. Accounts articles must be exciting and original science of broad interest, even controversial. The authors must be masters of their field and prestigious-or deserving to be.

To maximize the impact and readability of these articles, I am happy to report that my colleagues Professors Barbara Baird and John McMurry will serve as Associate Editors. John's dozen years' experience in this position will be particularly valuable. He will continue to cover, in general, inorganic and organic chemistry, com- plementing Barbara's expertise in biology and physical chemistry, hopefully leaving some areas to which I can contribute. Our Editorial Associate, Andrea Twiss-Brooks, is also an experienced chemist on whom we will depend heavily for overall coordination of the editorial process.

With your help I am optimistic that the unique scientific value of Accounts to active research chemists can be maintained.
