Editorial To our authors and readers With July first 1987 Professor Philippe Matile has finished his work as one of the Editors-in-Chief of «Journal of Plant Physiology». He served the journal in this position the last three years. In this time the former «Zeitschrift fur Pflanzenphysiologie» switched over to an international journal. This is not only to facilitate the pronunciation of the title by the non-german-speaking readers (as was mentioned three years ago), but much more to address the journal to the inter- national plant physiology community. The high scientific reputation and professional competence of Prof. Matile, and especially his personal charm were the profound basis for the successful work he has done in editing the journal and in handling several hundreds of manuscripts reaching his address in Zurich year after year. It means a real hard work to handle with care these manuscripts from all parts of the world without perceptible disturbance and to the contentment of authors and readers. During the editorship of Professor Matile around 800 papers were published and more than 7000 pages were printed. Such an immense work can not be successful without enthusiasm and engagement. We - the editors and the publisher - express our best thanks to the re- tiring Editor-in-Chief. Our thanks are also to his editorial secretary Miss Sonia Turler without whose continuous and most skillful help all the work would have been impossible. M.B.

To our authors and readers

With July first 1987 Professor Philippe Matile has finished his work as one of the Editors-in-Chief of «Journal of Plant Physiology». He served the journal in this position the last three years. In this time the former «Zeitschrift fur Pflanzenphysiologie» switched over to an international journal. This is not only to facilitate the pronunciation of the title by the non-german-speaking readers (as was mentioned three years ago), but much more to address the journal to the international plant physiology community.

We - the editors and the publisher - express our best thanks to the retiring Editor-in-Chief. Our thanks are also to his editorial secretary Miss Sonia Turler without whose continuous and most skillful help all the work would have been impossible.
