DIRECTORYDear young rheumatologistsand researchers,
We are delighted to present to you with a
new issue of EMEUNEWS, focusing on a
selection of Do Not Miss abstracts,
sessions and events at EULAR 2019.
The EULAR Congress is the largest
scientific event in rheumatology. To help
you get the most out of it, we provide a
selection of interesting oral presentations
and posters chosen by EMEUNET
Working Group members. We also
include selections from health
professionals in rheumatology and PARE
members. Although the abstracts
represent a personal and inevitably
limited selection from the vast amount
information to be presented, we believe
that our selections will provide some
inspiration to attendees.
This newsletter also contains details
about exciting networking events and
opportunities organized by EMEUNET
during the Congress. As EMEUNET is
celebrating its 10-year anniversary this
year, a special ‘anniversary dinner’ will
take place during the Congress.
EMEUNET will hold its usual booth within
the EULAR Village. Come to meet us
and get more information for our network
and activities. In addition to our physical
presence, EMEUNET will also be active
on social media including Facebook and
Twitter during the Congress. Check out
our pages for more information!
If this is your first contact with
EMEUNET, we invite you to explore
more and join us. If you are already part
of our community, we kindly remind you
that “sharing is caring”. Spread the word
about our activities and work, and help us
reach more young colleagues.
We hope you enjoy reading this
newsletter. We welcome all feedback,
comments, suggestions, and
contributions.
We wish you a prolific and successful
EULAR 2019. See you in Madrid!

THE MENTOR MENTEE MEETINGS AT EULAR 2019
As you all know, one of the missions of EMEUNET is to increase mentor-mentee interaction.
EMEUNET offers you a unique opportunity to discuss possible career options, research topics,
involvement in EULAR or professional skills with top leaders in the field of rheumatology in the
setting of the EULAR annual congress: the EMEUNET Mentor-Mentee meetings. This activity
takes place under a casual atmosphere and no materials are needed to be prepared in
advance. Previous mentor-mentees meetings at EULAR and ACR have been very interactive and
were scored as very satisfactory by mentees. Sign up for the mentor-mentee meetings at EULAR
2019! The next mentor-mentee will take place on Friday 14th of June at 08:00 – 9.30 am in
room S15 of the congress venue. The number of mentees will be limited to 6-8 for each group to
enhance interaction.
For the 10th anniversary of EMEUNET, we have prepared a fresh format of this activity, including
for the first time two mentors per discussion group. Do not miss this opportunity! The mentors
for this edition will be:

THE EULAR-EMEUNET AMBASSADOR PROGRAMME
FOR FIRST TIME ATTENDEES
Is it your first time to attend the EULAR annual conference this year? Attending the largest
european rheumatology congress for the first time can be a daunting experience. The annual
EULAR meeting welcomes 14,000+ clinicians and scientists, discussing clinical management, and
new scientific findings in an overwhelming number of sessions which run in parallel, starting early
in the morning and ending late at night. There has been a tradition that senior attendees share the
skills on how to survive the annual EULAR meeting, on how to get a taste of everything and not
miss the important facts, and have a great time. But how can you find your way through countless
opportunities within four days?
We invite 30 fellows who are first or second-time attendees to the conference to be part of our
EULAR/EMEUNET ambassador programme and receive congress mentorship from EULAR
veterans on how to make the most of your time.
• Applicants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis
• Participants will be allocated to small groups, each with a EULAR ambassador from the
EMEUNET working group. [Don’t worry: EMEUNET ambassadors are still young (<40 years)
and very approachable]
• You will be invited to the welcome meeting on the first day of the congress, so that you can meet
other fellow first time attendees and your ambassadors in an informal setting
• Participants will learn how to master the clinical and scientific EULAR programme and will be
offered the chance to participate in the EMEUNET networking events
• The mentoring process will be very informal
• The programme is free for EMEUNET members and non-members
YOUR OPINION IS IMPORTANT
If you are one of the participants to the
programme give us your feedback after the
event and it will be included in the next
newsletter issue!

COUNTRY LIAISONS MEETING AT EULAR 2019
The Country Liaisons are the representatives of EMEUNET in each country and are in charge of promoting
an active network of rheumatologists, fellows and researchers. Currently we work together with 45 Country
Liaisons in all Europe. Thanks to the continuous effort of the Country Liaisons, young rheumatologists,
researchers and fellows are invited to join EMEUNET. Through them, the educational and career
development opportunities offered by EMEUNET/EULAR find their way to young rheumatologists and
researchers. The Country Liaisons also play the key role of providing feedback from the community of
European young rheumatologists/fellows and researchers to EMEUNET/EULAR, to continuously adapt
educational offers and activities to the target population.
Since 2014, the members of the Country Liaison Subgroup and the Country Liaisons meet during a specific
event on a yearly basis, the EMEUNET Country Liaisons Meeting. The meeting is a wonderful
opportunity to introduce the new Country Liaisons and it also allows us to share experiences and discuss
about how to improve the local promotion of EMEUNET, increase our visibility, and improve communication
among all parties involved. Since its first edition, it has been a very productive and lively meeting!
The 6th Country Liaison Meeting is going to take place during the upcoming EULAR Congress in Madrid.
On Thursday, June 13th, 17.00-19.00, we once again invite all EMEUNET Country Liaisons to meet
together! We will review the highlights of the past year and invited Country Liaisons will share their
experiences in promoting EMEUNET in their countries.
We count on your participation and feedback for an exciting discussion!
EMEUNET Country Liaisons, book the date!Thursday, June 13th, 17.00-19.00, Room A10.01, EULAR Congress Venue

NEW: EMEUNET ON COURSE

NEW INITIATIVE: EMEUNET ON COURSE
EMEUNET is testing a new initiative for rheumatologists taking the EULAR online courses called
#EMEUNETonCourse. The purpose of the initiative is to create a platform for interaction while taking
one of the EULAR online courses. The idea is that this will make learning more effective for the course
attendants and at the same time get more rheumatology related content on #MedicalTwitter.
The initiative is grounded on Twitter. Anyone can Tweet anything with relevance to one of the EULAR
online courses they are taking. E.g. a summary to help others, special clinical pearls, controversies for
debate etc. The hashtags used are the same as the name of the course, e.g. hashtag for the EULAR
online course on rheumatic diseases (the 2-year course based on the EULAR Textbook on Rheumatic
Diseases) is #EULARonlinecourseOnRheumaticDiseases. Further, the hashtag #EMEUNETonCourse
is used in all Tweets. Other hashtags can be used to specify the chapter or topic of the Tweet.
Because courses contain copyright content, it is stressed that all posts should comply with normal
copyright regulations, e.g. do not post anything without proper citations and do not copy paste content
from the courses.

OUTCOME MEASURES LIBRARY
29
OUTCOME MEASURES LIBRARY (OML)
The EULAR Outcome Measures Library (OML) aims to be a comprehensive database of validated
instruments (indices, questionnaires, scales, or others), with an emphasis on patient-reported
outcomes (PRO) used in rheumatology. The OML includes detailed descriptions of each
instrument, such as the settings in which it has been validated, recommendations for use and
different language versions of each instrument. Also, guidelines for interpretation of results in both
practice and research settings are provided. Instruments are categorized by disease or by topic.
The EULAR OML was created by rheumatologists, health professionals, students and patients, all
of whom are engaged in this field of research. It is an ongoing project, and many people have
already contributed. The OML initiative is open to volunteers who can help keep track of new
PROs in our field.
