NATURE Nature Study is the place to discover plants and animals this summer at Arrowhead! We have been planting and creating while learning about the world around us! The campers do a fantastic job taking care of our animal friends in the Nature cabin and making them feel comfortable. Campers who come to nature club love spending quality time with our furry, feathery, and scaly friends. Gilbert M.C. the water dragon is happy to be back at camp for his seccond summer! Clover the rabbit has been taste testing different vegetables, but her most favorite food is broccoli! Guacamole and Chip, our Rouen Duck sisters, love growing up at camp. They are only 5 weeks old, and have already grown so big! Campers also welcomed Rainbow, a beautiful beta fish, to Nature Study. We even got to visit with a box turtle this summer that was discovered on the playground. It really is amazing to learn all about animals and their environments up close here at Arrowhead!

Aunt Patricia and Aunt Ava

PIONEERING It has been great seeing familiar faces and welcoming our new friends to the wonderful world of pioneering! With three ziplines, two rock walls, a cargo net, high vine, and catwalk we have plenty to offer the campers who love the adrenaline of climbing and being up in the air! We also have a low ropes section which is like a smaller version of what’s up on high ropes. For campers who are more comfortable there, we have many elements they can climb on and test their balance and agility, while only being a foot or two off the ground! There is something for everyone at pioneering and it seems to still be a camp favorite! We have extended the amount of campers who can come to us for club this year so make sure to encourage your kids to sign up and get more chances to go on the ziplines this summer!

Aunt Heather and the Pioneers

Music & Dance We are having so much fun at Music & Dance this summer! Campers are singing and dancing every time they come to us in the Bali-Hi pavilion. We are learning songs, playing fun musical games, talking about the basics of pitch and tempo and practicing our dance routines. Some intermediates and seniors are choosing Music & Dance electives including karaoke, guitar and Zumba! In addition to all of this, there is a group of dedicated campers who are finding time in their day to rehearse for the musical, which promises to be a hit. There is a lot of talent here at Arrowhead!

Aunt Carie, Aunt Lacy, Aunt Mandy & Aunt Natalia

COMPUTERS There are an array of apparatus to play on in the computer room and each child seems to have a favorite device whether it is a tablet, computer, Wii or X-Box systems. We have increased the size of the screens for the Wii and X-Box systems, as well as gotten a Wii-U and an X-Box One. We continue to use Portaportal to help the campers find their favorite internet games. Fell free to visit it at: http://guest.portaportal.com/arrowheaddaycamp. Each week we upload all the bunks great photos and videos of the children having fun onto the camp website. Just a reminder, the earlier the campers sign up for clubs, the more likely they will be able to get the activity of their choice. We love seeing, helping and cheering everyone on when they come to computers.

HORSES

This summer at horses has been great so far! We have 5 horses this year- Isaac, Mouse, Abner, Chubbs, and Gopher! We spend every day learning how to ride the horses and practice getting to listen to what they are being told to do. Whether a camper is learning how to hold the reins or canter- everyone is taught techniques based on their skill level. It's so great seeing every camper improve their riding each time! We had a couple of heat days this summer, so the campers couldn't ride but instead they got to give the horses baths and groom them, which is always a lot of fun! We are so excited for the rest of the summer and are looking forward to see how much the campers improve by the end of camp! Aunt Emily, Aunt Sara, Aunt Emilie, Aunt Briana, and Aunt Andie

ARTS & CRAFTS II

Welcome back to another great Arrowhead summer! In Art we have been working on beading bracelets, clay sculptures, making yarn gods eyes/turtles, friendship pins and much more. Balloon stress balls have been a hit this camp season and as always....WE LOVE GIMP. You can you tube many of the gimp stitches (box, butterfly, zipper) for tutorials. We will be tie dyeing week 6, so please dress appropriately. This is a very creative group of campers who love art! Aunt Robin

BATTING CAGES

If I had to describe batting cages this summer using two words they would be, PURE ADRENALINE. We start off slow going over the rules and making sure every camper is set up and in the right batting position, it’s always nice to learn that their parents or older sibling play baseball and have showed them how to bat and believe me it shows! Because as soon as we start the campers turn into pros crushing homers left and right. While batting I always get in there with them making sure everyone’s practicing proper batting techniques, like keeping your elbow up and bat back and always keeping your eye on the ball. It can be challenging to some especially when they are missing a lot but I tell them to stick with it keep your head up and keep swinging! Like the great Wayne Gretzky once said “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.” Uncle Keith

fun. Some of the campers who participated are:

SPORTS LOGO DAY ARROWHEAD Campers wore their favorite team jerseys on Sports Logo Day. Some campers wore professional teams (lots of super bowl champ Eagles shirts), college teams, and even their own local league teams to camp to show their pride! Uncle Brian was so happy to see so many BUCKEYES shirts represented! Maybe someday our campers will attend the universities they wore on their t-shirts! (and maybe some of them will even become professional athletes). To think it all started here on the fields of ARROWHEAD!

PAJAMA DAY Who says you can’t wear your pajamas to camp? Another Arrowhead tradition allows campers to wear their pajamas to camp, hear stories from their counselors, and even enjoy a midmorning breakfast in the Mess Hall. Everyone looked comfy and happy in their pajamas, even the counselors! It was a wonderful morning in Junior Camp that day!

HALLOWEEN DAY Halloween in July? Only at Arrowhead Day Camp. Junior campers wore their favorite Halloween costumes from princesses to super heroes. Campers paraded around the playground, ending with a trick or treat goodie bag. All of junior camp enjoyed creating and eating an edible spider! It was a sweet time by all!

PROPER FOOTWEAR AT CAMP

We are informing all of our parents that sneakers, and sneakers only

are the appropriate footwear for your children to wear during our

camp day. Any types of sandals, flip-flops, pool shoes etc. are not only

inappropriate but also dangerous. Our campers are engaged in various

activities including running, jumping, climbing etc. and sneakers are for

these endeavors. Parents we ask you to use common sense and please

follow our advice for the safety of your children. Thank you.

SOMETHING SERIOUS- SOMETHING SWEET!

Many campers at ARROWHEAD have severe food and bee sting

allergies. Due to the increasing amount of campers who enjoy

celebrating their birthdays at camp we have to be extra cautious. We

are asking that treats be sent in for special occasions only. A popular

suggestion is Munchkins from Dunkin Donuts or Soft Pretzels. We are

also insisting that all food of any kind be eaten inside the air-

conditioned Mess Hall. This will enable us to monitor the bees,

allergies and clean-up more safely. Thank you.

NURSES UPDATE….ALL IS WELL

We are looking forward to a happy and healthy summer. The

infirmary staff provides lots of TLC to all those children with bumps,

bruises, splinters, tummy aches and whatever else pops up.

All medications must be sent to the infirmary in the original

prescription bottle with the label intact. Please include a note stating

the period of time the child should receive the medication.

Please return all medical forms as soon as possible. This is for

the health and safety of all our children.

Remember to keep all of your emergency telephone numbers up to

date!

PROJECT MORRY

Dear Arrowhead Families,

We want to let you know about an exciting opportunity for your kids to participate in a

special event for a great cause. Molly Rosenthal, who has been a camper here for the

past seven summers, is doing a Bat Mitzvah Project for the organization Project Morry.

Project Morry helps send underprivileged kids to camp. Molly has enjoyed her camper

experience at Arrowhead so much that she wants other children who aren’t as

fortunate to be able to have the opportunity to go to camp as well. Her camp memories

are so special and important to her she wants to give other kids this gift also.

Molly and the camp directors will be organizing a series of games on August 1st.

Campers will be able to select from a variety of competitive games to participate in. The

Junior camp will be able to pick from games such as Big Wheel Races, Mini Golf

tournament, and more. The senior and intermediate campers will participate in things

like zipline races, boating races, swimming races and more. There will be prizes and

awards given out to the winners of each competition. Additionally, the bunk that raises

the most money from each division will win a pizza party, and the camper (or camper

family) from each division who raises the most money will have the opportunity to select

a director and throw a pie in his/her face!

If your child(ren) would like to participate, we ask that you make a small donation on

Project Morry’s website. Please copy & paste the link below into your browser to learn

more about the wonderful things Project Morry does as well as make a donation.

Campers can also have family and friends donate in their names (similar to charity

walks). Molly and Project Morry are extremely grateful and appreciative of any amount,

and 100% of all funds donated will go directly to the charity.

We are so excited to help Molly with this generous and amazing project. The Arrowhead

community is so special and filled with so much love that we want to give back and help

others who are less fortunate. Thank you in advance for your cooperation, participation,

and generosity. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us with any questions.

ELECTRONIC POLICY One of the best, if not the best part, of summer camp is being able to enjoy the great

outdoors. This is especially true with the winter we just had which trapped us indoors.

Add to this that our children have spent so much time sitting in rows with pencil & paper

and taking standardized tests, and they really need to be participating in all that

ARROWHEAD has to offer so we respectfully request that all cell phones, mp3 players,

tablets, etc. stay at home where they will be "safe & sound."
