July to September 2019 Edition : 13 Dear Friends, The rain gods have been kind on our state , from drought like situation to floods in Western Maharashtra the unpredictable climate has taken over our lives . The monsoons are the leanest period in the MSLTA calendar but we are happy to have conducted our annual monsoon events like the Junior Tennis Leagues in Mumbai and Pune. We are also very happy that Kolhapur has joined the league and have started the Junior Tennis league . I’m sure other districts and regions will follow soon. The Junior and Senior circuits of the MSLTA will take off from October 2019 and it is housefull calendar till the end of the year. Our players continue to do well in the juniors events across age groups and this gives us all immense satisfac- tion. Our men's and women's professional players Purav Raja , Arjun Kadhe, Aryan Goveas , Dhruv Sun- ish, Armaan and Aryan Bhantia , Rutuja Bhosale, Snehal Mane , Mihika Yadav , and Mahek Jain continue to fight through the grind on the international level playing events across the globe and we are proud of them .The coming quarter will also ensure that our players will get to play matches at home with heavy In- ternational schedule lined up with the KPIT-MSLTA ATP Challenger, and 25K ITF women's at Pune, Solapur , Navi Mumbai . I’m sure the international events will help them achieve good rankings. It is matter of pride for MSLTA that Maharashtra player, coach and for- mer Davis Cupper Nitten Kirrtane, has been awarded rage prestigious Dhyan Chand Award instituted by the Government of India. The award was given to Nitten at the hands of Hon. Ramnath Kovind President of India, Nitten has been the unsung hero of Indian tennis. For sheer cour- age and perseverance, few can match For one who had finished runner- up in the junior doubles with Mahesh Bhupathi in Wimbledon in 1992, Nitten did not have a glittering career like the multiple Grand Slam champion, for a variety of reasons. The 45-year-old gutsy left-hander, who continues to play the game, despite coaching stints, has extended the winning streak to the international seniors. Two Maharashtra Players Manas Dhamne and Ruma Gaikwari were se- lected by Former national coach Balram Singh headed selection panel for the All India Tennis Association (AITA) Trust, scholarship of Rs. 100,000, the were amongst 16 players in the under-14 age group , 32 players from 15 State units were assessed not only for their tennis skills with competition among themselves but also for physical fitness and the overall potential. Maharashtra continues to be the state with the highest number of ranked players on the AITA rankings and also has 36 players who are ranked in the top 20 rank- ings in all age groups . MSLTA council, and the coaches and other committees will meet soon to decide how we can increases these numbers apart from having many more No 1 players in the rankings. Howling Wolves lift title at 4th MSLTA - Mumbai Open - Junior Tennis League 2019

Howling Wolves edged out Rising Eagles by a solitary game 121-119 to emerge winners at the 4th MSLTA - Mumbai Open - Junior Tennis League 2019 played at the MSLTA Tennis courts. The winner team Howl-ing Wolves owned by Navdeep Singh received trophy and Rs. 50,000/-, while Rising Eagles owned by Arun Bhosale which finished runner up received trophy and Rs. 30,000/-, third place winner Flying Hawks owned by Gaurav Kapadia received Rs. 15,000/- and fourth place Raging Bulls owned by Rehan Sumar received Rs. 10,000/-. prices were given away at the hands of Life President of MSLTA Sharad Kannamwar,JTL commissioner Manoj Vaidya and tournament Supervisor Payal Jain.

Over 48 tennis players from the city selected through auction process participated via four teams which in-cluded Raging Bulls(Owner- Rehan Sumar), Flying Hawks (Owner- Gaurav Kapadia), Howling Wolves (Owner- Navdeep Singh), Rising Eagles (Owner- Arun Bhosale).

Vepar Speeding Cheetahs lift PMDTA Junior Tennis League Title by solitary game

Vepar Speeding Cheetahs edged out Kodre Farms Roaring Lions by a solitary game 40-39 to emerge winners at the PMDTA Junior Tennis League organized by Pune Metropolitan District Tennis Association(PMDTA) and played at the PYC Hindu Gymkhana and Deccan Gymkhana Tennis courts.

The winner team Vepar Speeding Cheetahs owned by Ashwin Girme received trophy and Rs. 40,000/-, while Kodre Farms Roaring Lions owned by Vikram Deshmukh which finished runner up received trophy and Rs. 25,000/-. The awards will be presented at the PMDTA annual day to be held later this month. Over 200 tennis players from the city selected through auction process participated via six teams which in-cluded Kodre Farms Roaring Lions-Vikram Deshmukh, Pune Open Striking Jaguars-Navnath Shete, Intensity Tennis Academy Rising Eagles-Atul Deodhare, Flying Hawks-Rohit Natekar & Nishith Shah, Metrocity Rag-ing Bulls-Shivaji Choudhari, Vepar Speeding Cheetahs Ashwin Girme.

Selected for AITA trust Camp in Delhi

Former national coach Balram Singh will head the selection panel for the All India Tennis Association (AITA) Trust, which will venture to identify 16 players in the under-14 age group for a scholarship of Rs. 100,000 each per year, starting with a camp at the DLTA Complex.

The week-long camp will have 32 players from 15 State units. Vishaal Uppal and Ankita Bhambri will be the other members of the selection committee. The players will be assessed not only for their tennis skills with competition among themselves but also for physical fitness and the overall potential. The scholarship amount will be given to the players in three installments. The first installment of Rs. 50,000 will be given to each of the 16 selected players, immediately after the camp. The players will be monitored through the year, and the players will have to present accounts for the amount paid to them.

The AITA Trust has also invested Rs. 60 lakh in the Tennis Vision Fund, and expects the corporate and pri-vate companies to contribute to the fund. The Vision fund will be utilized to help the players compete at home and abroad, apart from sourcing tennis equipment. There will also be a team of three boys and three girls from among the 16 identified talent, who would be supported for tournaments at home and abroad. The Fund will be used to strengthen tennis in schools apart from development of tennis infrastructure in small towns and under developed tennis regions in the country. Overall, the Trust aims to support grassroots schemes, fostering talent and infrastructure development. The camp held at the DLTA Complex.

State boys shine as Indian boys lift Asian under-12 tennis

State players Manas Dhamne and Arnav Paparkar played excellent tennis through the week and play a stellar role in India’s title win at Asian Under 12 tennis championships at Kazakhstan. Re-thin Pranav and Maharashtra player Manas Dhamne won their singles matches with ease as India beat Chinese Taipei 2-1 to clinch the title in the Asian under-12 tennis championship in Kazakhstan. With both the group toppers meeting for the title, India got off to a fine start with Rethin Pranav beating Min Tsiang Tsao 6-4, 6-1. Manas Dhamne followed up with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Xiao Feng Zhou. In the inconsequential doubles match, the Taipei team pulled through in the second set tie-break.

Double crown for Mahak Jain at the $15,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament

MSLTA and Lakshya supported player Mahak Jain who ousted Sada Nahimana (BDI) 6-1 6-4 to win the $15,000 ITF women’s tennis tournament in Nairobi, Kenya.

Mahak won the doubles title with Sathwika Sama in the In the doubles final, Mahak and Sathwika beat compatriots and second seeds, Sravya Shivani and Snehal Mane in straight sets.

Nitten Kirrtane clinches the singles and doubles title at the ITF Seniors Circuit held in China.

Maharashra girls Salsa Aher and Bela Tamhankar for being win-ner and runner up in the girls dou-bles at the MCC Adidas Under 18 Na-tionals at Chennai. Salsa paired with Kavya Sawhney while Bela paired with Kashish Bote .

K.D.L.T.A, Kolhapur player Sandesh Kurale for emerging Boys Under -16 Doubles Winner at National Series Tennis Tournament held at Ahemdabad.
