Solid Start to the Season
The Wobbler#wccredcaps THE ONLY PLACE TO GET ALL THE REDCAP NEWS Est.1942/43
Issue No. 2 – 2018/19
With our season well underway all teams
have won a number of games and are
making positive progress. Training has been
well attended with our younger players really
making a strong effort to improve. No doubt
the highlight of the year so far has been the
strong performances in the senior teams by
our 15,16,17 and 18 year old players.
Special congratulations to the following
Under 17 players on these outstanding
performances to date - Liam Haydon had a
day out a few weeks ago making 50* in the
U17’s in the morning then backing up and
making 103 in the 3rds that same afternoon!
Tom Cleary and Loris Bayly have also
compiled centuries in the Unders, while
Brock Reid stitched up Mt. Clear [ha ha] with
his leg break bowling in a 2nd XI match
taking 7/34.
The club is to be highly commended for the
manner in which it coaches and promotes
our own players who have come through the
junior grades to play senior cricket. The
many parents of our younger, underage
players should also be thanked and
acknowledged for their ongoing support of
their boys and also of the club. This
approach will continue to stand us in good
stead and will always stand the test of time.
There is no need for us to seek out overseas
players at the expense of a strong junior
program.
Our three Third XI’s are all playing in the
same competition and at this stage have
each won three games. Again the
youngsters in these teams are doing very
well and are being strongly guided and
supported by a sprinkling of ‘older players’
when their hamstrings permit.
Surely we are the only club in Australia to
have three teams pitted against each
other in the same grade. Uniquely
amazing!
Our chairman of selectors Brett Yates
continues to do a wonderful job each
week liaising with the captains to organize
the senior teams. Thanks Yater!
It has been a little disappointing that
Angus McFangus, Horatio Hornblower
and Ivor Biggin have seen fit to make
themselves unavailable for games. This
makes it difficult for the selectors and also
impacts on continuity in the teams.
Liam Wood and Liam Hurse have
debuted in the First XI.
Brook Reid and Jayden White
Powell have made excellent
contributions in the Second XI along
with Aaron Johns, Hugh Knight, Loris
Bayly, Ben Evans, Kento Dobel and
Angus Creelman.
The 2nd XI are currently in third place
with a very strong percentage and
are being ably led by Justin Howlett
and Stephen Segrave.
#wccredcaps The Wobbler
Our Thursday evening meals have
been very well supported and we
again thank Brett Godson, Greeny
and their offsiders for their terrific
work each week to provide for the
players and supporters after training
when the teams are announced.

REDCAFS
RoundFollowing on from the success of our Children and Family
Services (CAFS) Christmas Appeal last year, Natarsha and
her elves will be hosting our special REDCAFS Round on
Friday 14th December at CE Brown Reserve.
This is the last junior round before the Christmas break when
all teams play T20 games on the Friday night. On this night
our two U17 teams are playing each other on the Wendouree
Turf and our two U15 teams are playing each other on
Wendouree #2.
There will be a BBQ at the club rooms afterwards (about
7.30pm) and we’d love all juniors and parents to come back
to the club after their games have finished.
We will again be collecting presents to donate to CAFS for
them to distribute to families around Ballarat who need a
hand at Christmas time.
Keep an eye on Team App as we’ll send out more details
shortly!
Big thanks to Charlie Williams who designed this very cool logo for our
REDCAFS Round too!
#wccredcaps
This year we’ll be using the Sign-Up App to list the various
presents that we’d like people to buy and donate. There are
some things that are more suited to the CAFS Christmas
appeal than others, so we’d like to get the most benefit from
the generosity of our families and suggest some things that
you could buy and donate.
All items donated and the profits from the BBQ will go
directly to CAFS.
If you’d like to help cook the BBQ or assist Natarsha with
the many other jobs she has, please contact her on

in Mitiamo.
The shift work (2 weeks on and 1 week off) will mean that
Jonty has limited opportunity to play with us for the rest of
the season.
We thank Jonty for his contribution on and off the field in his
time with Wendouree and wish him all the best with his new
career.
We’re sure he’ll be around the club whenever he gets the
chance and we look forward to him playing a few games
when his schedule permits.

Natarsha Williams
Cricket Australia
Community ChampionNatarsha Williams has been formally recognized as a
Community Champion for all the work she has done with
Cricket Without Boundaries.
For those who aren’t familiar with Cricket Without
Boundaries, it’s the initiative that Nat and her family
started a few years ago assisting the local indigenous
community with the help of Lany Johnson who worked at
BADAC at the time. CWB is now sending pre-loved
cricket and sporting gear all over the world.
We’ve send cricket gear to orphanages in India,
indigenous communities in the Tiwi Islands, Vanuatu and
most recently 26 boxes of gear was sent to Bangladesh.
Click on the logo below to watch the video that has been
made recognizing all the work Natarsha has put in over
many years!

Donations Wanted
Over November and December we are going to send
some gear to Nepal through a group called ‘Aussie Action
Abroad’. They are looking to support a project in Nepal
called ‘play for positive change’ which is looking to help
communities affected by the two earth quakes in Nepal in
2015. This project involves working with the local
communities in Nepal ‘to provide opportunities to access
sports activities and coaching to some of the country’s
most disadvantaged young people, especially women and
girls’.
As well as supplying cricket gear we are hoping to gather
some other sporting equipment we could send. If anyone
has any sporting equipment that they are no longer using
that is still in working order, please consider donating it to
the children in Nepal.
Natarsha will place a bin in the shed at the nets - if you
would like to place donations in there or give them to her
directly she will arrange to get them sorted and packed
ready for shipping.
Any sport is great, cricket, football, netball, volleyball,
rugby, tennis, badminton, etc

Stay in Touch
This year the Senior Players and Coaches will be using
the Team App to communicate.
Any player who hasn’t downloaded the Team App should
do it NOW.
Past players and supporters can keep up to date with
what’s happening around the club by following us on
https://www.facebook.com/red.caps.3/
.
The Wobbler
Also anyone can download the MyCricket App from the
App Store and follow the live scores each weekend.
Well worth doing if you are interested in seeing the ball-
by-ball scores when the teams are live scoring on their
iPad
Finally, can all senior players please ensure that
you have paid your membership fees to our
treasurer John Penhall prior to the end of
November. I am advised that non payment will
impact on your selection.
Until next time,
Rudolph wasn’t a big hit … so it’s back to Red Cap
Ronnie.
