MIAMI - English rock singer Phil Collins was forced to cancel his first solo concert in more than four years after suffering problems with his voice, US media reported Monday.

The 63-year-old Genesis front man was due to perform at Miami

Beach’s Fillmore theater on Satur-day in a benefit gig for his charitable foundation, but he pulled out at the last minute.

“We tried to do it, but my voice sounded bad at rehearsal. And at sound-check it sounded worse,” Collins was quoted as saying by the Miami New Times.

Collins has largely withdrawn from live performances in recent years, preferring to spend more time with his family.

Neither Collins, who has sold more than 100 million records, nor the concert organizers have given further details on the nature of the problems affecting the singer’s voice.

In Sydney for the premiere of her new movie “Paddington”, the Oscar winner said her close-knit family were “hunkering down for Christmas” without her father Antony Kidman.

“You know, I will look back at this year as one of the toughest years our family’s ever gone through -- I mean, the toughest ever,” she told Sydney’s Daily Telegraph Monday.

Antony Kidman, a doctor, died in Singapore in September from a heart attack as he was visiting daughter Antonia and her family. “I talk about it because I like to keep him alive, in a way,” his famous older daughter said. “Even though you talk about it, you’re still in so much pain so, yeah, as a fam-ily we’re still in a lot of pain. “As any family knows when you’ve had a huge loss, it makes you tighter, you have to also protect each other,” she added.

Kidman has also had a bumpy year on-screen, with the thriller “Before I Go to Sleep” last month her worst ever large scale opening, taking just over US$2

million after a wide release across 1,935 theatres. In that movie, Kidman plays a woman suffer-ing from chronic amnesia who wakes up every morning with no recollection of her life from her early 20s onwards. Its weak opening marked another disappointing flop for Kidman after “Grace of Monaco,” which was booed at the Cannes festival earlier this year and savaged by critics.

Kidman said she chose to make the movie “Pad-dington” because she wanted something her daughters with singer Keith Urban -- Sunday, six, and Faith, three -- could enjoy.

“There’s nothing like sitting in the pre-miere of a kids’ film, where you hear them all laughing,” she said.

LONDON - What to make of Take That? The 1990s boy band was adored by a generation in its native Britain. When Take That returned in 2005 as a grown-up “man band,” fans embraced the group as if it had never been away.

“III” is the band’s sixth No. 1 studio album in the U.K., its title a reference to Take That’s new status as a trio, with the departure earlier this year of Jason Orange. The group earlier survived the loss of original member Robbie Wil-liams, but how much attrition can its chemistry bear?

Well, a three-wheeled car is still a car, and Take That is like a luxury automobile — a Jaguar, perhaps — humming along with neither surprises nor disappointments.

Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald still sound vocally at ease in each other’s company. The album’s opener and lead single, “These Days,” is a well-tooled construction of tight vocal harmonies and up-tempo electro-beats. It’s easy to imagine it filling dance floors, while “Get Ready” is an equally effective pop anthem.

The rest of the album, created with producers including Gary Kurstin and Stuart Price, is similarly polished, though musically unadventurous and lyrically bland.

“III” is at its most interesting when it swerves a bit, as with the grungy electro buzz of “I Like It” or the low-key, McCartneyesque charm of “Amazing” — a word only true fans will apply to this album.

EvEry Temple and Shrine has a special date for it annual Ceremony, or “ Odalan “, every 210 days according to Balinese calendar, including the smaller ancestral shrine which each family possesses. Because of this practically every few days a ceremony of festival of some kind takes place in some Village in Bali. There are also times when the entire island celebrated the same Holiday, such as at Galungan, Kuningan, Nyepi day, Saraswati day, Tumpek Landep day, Pagerwesi day, Tumpek Wayang day etc.

The dedication or inauguration day of a Temple is con-sidered its birth day and celebration always takes place on the same day if the wuku or 210 day calendar is used. When new moon is used then the celebration always happens on new moon or full moon. The day of course can differ the religious celebration of a temple lasts at least one full day with some temple celebrating for three days while the celebration of Besakih temple, the Mother Temple, is never less than 7 days and most of the time it lasts for 11 days, depending on the importance of the occasion.

The celebration is very colorful. The shrine are dressed with pieces of cloths and sometimes with brocade, sailings, decorations of carved wood and sometimes painted with gold and Chinese coins, very beautifully arranged, are hung in the four corners of the shrine. In front of shrine are placed red, white or black umbrellas depending which Gods are worshipped in the shrines.

In front of important shrine one sees, besides these umbrellas soars, tridents and other weapons, the “umbul-umbul”, long flags, all these are prerogatives or attributes of Holiness. In front of the Temple gate put up “Penjor”, long bamboo poles, decorated beautifully ornaments of young coconut leaves, rice and other products of the land. Alindra Villa has cemented its pres-ence in Bali since July 2013. Previous-ly, Alindra has had twelve units which are divided in to three complexes, offering different experiences, from ethnic villas, Terracotta complex, and modern pool villas. The antiquities and

paintings displayed in the modern pool villas and Terracotta suites are also the owner’s personal collection.

“Alindra Villa is a work of art,” ex-pressed Arifin Olii, the owner who is an architect and a painter himself. His labor of love included choosing best building

materials and contemporary furnishing, selecting antique sculpture and paint-ings, to make sure whoever stays inside feels the villa as a second home.

Alindra Villa is expanding itself in the area of 10 are by building six additional one-bedroom villas which will be finished in around 10-12 months. This expansion is aimed to meet the needs of traveler who want to enjoy the richness of culture and ar-chitectural of Indonesia.

modern styles found in Alindra Villa. It is also a representation of the nine spices and flower commonly used in Indonesian cuisine. And yet it is also representing the nine cardinal points in Hindu mythology.

Alindra Villa has three areas which can host events, from engagement party, birthday party, to cocktail party. The selection of food and beverages are provided by Terracotta Restaurant.

“The Bali Water and Air Police have foiled the smug-gling of protected animals such as turtles several times which shows us that these waters are in fact prone to such activi-ties,” said Chief of Bali Police, Albertus Julius Benny Mokalu, after the celebration of the 64th anniversary of the Water and Air Police at East Pier of Benoa Harbor, on Monday (Dec 8).

The two-star general asked personnel of the Water and Air Police to further improve se-curity and surveillance. In ad-dition, he said that any crimes

taking place in these waters should be dealt with firmly. “I have focused on members (Water and Air Police—Ed) to synergize with stakeholder, one of which is the Navy. With this synergy we can reach maximal results,” said Bali Police Chief accompanied by Director of Water and Air Po-lice, Purwoko Yudi.

In response to the recent ag-gressive actions of the govern-ment in sinking a fish-thieving vessel, Benny said that his par-ty was very supportive of such policies. According to Benny, this action could motivate the

personnel of the Water and Air Police in the field so that they would be more willing to take decisive action. There would be no bargaining when imple-menting the policy in the field. Moreover, the action of sinking the vessel of fish thieves had been set forth in the law.

“We should take this op-portunity (anniversary of Wa-ter and Air Police—Ed) to reflect on how all person-nel can improve services to the community, especially in coastal areas so as to maintain security” added Purwoko Yudi. (kmb36)

Bali PostTABANAN - Chili prices in Tabanan con-

tinue to skyrocket. Closing chilli prices were IDR 100,000 per kilogram and up. Other than being expensive, most of the chilies being sold by traders are still green.

“Apparently, farmers are harvesting the chil-ies when they are still young,” said Mirah, a trader at Pesiapan Market. Furthermore, due to the high price of chilies, they are being sold per piece said one customer named Dewi: “When buying IDR 2,000 worth of peppers, we to get lots, now, we only get exactly five small pep-pers and we select the red ones only, we are not allowed to take more,” she said. She went on to say that “In the past, we could purchase any amount we wanted, but now many traders are selling plastic packages for IDR 5,000. With the exact number of chilis having been counted by the trader. she added.

Unfortunately, the sweet price of chilies is not of any benefit to farmers in Baturiti. According to one local farmer, Putu Suardana, farmers are selling their chilies in the range of IDR 35,000 to IDR 50,000. “The highest price we get is no-

where near the IDR 100,000 per kilogram, we are seeing in the markets” he said. Apart from this discrepancy in price, another difficulty that farmers are facing is the lack of urea and ZA fer-tilizer, especially for farmers that do not belong to a farmer group. “Shopping for fertilizers in the stores is hard because it is first sold to farmer groups and only what is left over will be sold in stores, and there is rarely any left over.,” said Suardana has not joined a farmer group.

To make matters worse, chili farmers experi-enced crop failure this year due to the prolonged drought. According to Suardana, the long dry season dry forced many farmers to harvest their crops early. “Now, that the rainy season has begun, it is time for the chilies to bear fruits,” he said.

Based on observations by Bali Post, chilies in Baturiti are still mostly green -they have yet to turn entirely red. Although the selling price at the market has jumped sharply, Suardana said he would not harvest his chili earlier. “The price at which farmers are selling is far lower than at the market so it is not in my interest to harvest too early” he concluded. (kmb24)

Bali PostNEGARA - Traffic violation rates in

Jembrana have increased over the last year. From the zebra operation, held over approximately two weeks, more than 400 violations were recorded. Most of the violations were committed by motorcycle users. These violations show that people’s traffic awareness remains low.

Chief of the Jembrana Police Traffic Affairs, Gede Sumadra Kertiawan, with permission from the Chief of Jembrana Police when evaluating the first week implementation of zebra operation said there were 393 violations recorded. They consisted of 335 speeding tickets and 58 reprimands. This number increased from similar operations last year, which

amounted to less than 300 offenders.Of the 339 228 violations recorded,

228 were commited by motorcyclists. “Most violations were related to the use of SNI-standard helmets,” said Sumadra. Meanwhile, there were 107 violations by cars and trucks. Among theses 84 were related to freight, and 17 related to documents.. Police took action by confiscating evidence in the violation including 49 drivers licenses, 233 vehicle registrations and 63 vehicles.

Responding to the increasing num-ber of offenders, police will be further intensify outreach activities regarding traffic rules. Because 104 of violations were carried out by pupils and college students., schools will be targeted for the outreach program.(kmb26)

Water and Air Police-Navy strengthens supervision

Bali PostDENPASAr - The waters of Bali are larger than its mainland making this area more

prone to smuggling operations. Smuggling ranges from the trafficking of drugs, firearms and other hazardous materials, to protected or endangered animals and also includes human trafficking. On that account, the Directorate of Water and Air Police, and the Bali Police, in cooperation with the Navy will be further improving supervision of these areas.

NEW YORK — Americans are turning away from live TV on the tube and tuning in to streaming services, a Nielsen report says.

That’s bad news for cable and satellite TV providers. Americans are increasingly watching TV shows and movies on Net-flix, Hulu, Amazon streaming and other services. CBS and HBO have announced standalone streaming services as well.

About 45 percent of Americans stream television shows at least once a month, according to research firm eMarketer. That number is expected to increase to 53 percent or 175 million people by 2018, it says.

According to the Nielsen report, which

came out Wednesday, the average daily time spent watching live TV fell 12 minutes in the third quarter to four hours and 32 minutes. That means it dropped nearly 4 percent to 141 hours per month.

Meanwhile, time spent watching stream-ing services jumped 60 percent to nearly 11 hours each month.

That’s still a small amount compared with live TV, but it is growing quickly.

“Content is still king, but consumers are shaping their own content-discovery experi-ence, and the evolving media landscape has not lessened consumer demand for quality, professionally produced content,” Dounia Turrill, senior vice president of insights at Nielsen, said in a statement. “What has changed is the number and reliability of new media available to viewers.”

McAfee Labs’ 2015 Threats Predictions report sees increased cyber-warfare and espionage, along with new strategies from hackers to hide their tracks and steal sensitive data.

“Cyber espionage attacks will continue to increase in frequen-cy,” the report said.

“Long-term players will be-come steal thier information gatherers, while newcomers will look for ways to steal money and disrupt their adversaries.”

McAfee said small nations and terror groups will become even more active and will “attack by launching crippling distributed denial of service attacks or using malware that wipes the master boot record to destroy their en-emies’ networks.”

At the same time, cybercrimi-nals will use better methods to remain hidden on a victim’s net-work, to carry out long-term theft of data without being detected, the researchers said.

“In this way, criminals are beginning to look and act more like sophisticated nation-state cy-berespionage actors, who watch and wait to gather intelligence,” the report said.

The report also said hackers are looking to target more connected devices, including computers in the farming, manufacturing, and health care sectors.

NEW YORK - Facebook said Monday it is rolling out upgraded search capa-bilities for mobile and desktop users who want to find favorite posts from their friends on the huge social network.

“You’ve told us the most important thing is being able to find posts you’ve seen before, and now you can,” said Facebook vice president Tom Stocky in a blog post.

“With a quick search, you can get back to a fun video from your graduation, a news article you’ve been meaning to read, or photos from your friend’s wedding last summer.”

Facebook said in August it was testing the search upgrade and that it would be available this week for users of Apple

devices and on the desktop version of Facebook.

In 2013, Facebook announced its “graph search,” which enabled users to dive into the vast amount of data which they can already access. The social network has promised upgrades to this service.

Facebook allows users to search posts, but only those to which they would have access under privacy guidelines, such as posts from friends and public messages.

“Your search results are personalized and unique to you and, as always, you can only see things that have been shared with you,” Stocky said.

“Search at Facebook is a long-term ef-fort. Today is a step toward helping you tap into the experiences and perspectives of your friends.”

Cyberattacks to worsen in 2015Agence France-Presse

WASHINGTON - A series of spectacular cyberattacks drew headlines this year, and the situation will only worsen in 2015 as hackers use more advanced techniques to infiltrate networks, security researchers said Tuesday.

“The number and variety of devices in the Internet of Things (IoT) family is growing exponen-tially. In the consumer space, they are now seen in appliances, auto-mobiles, home automation, and even light bulbs,” McAfee said.

McAfee said it is already see-ing hackers targeting devices such as webcams with weak security and industrial control systems. But it sees health care as an especially worrisome sector.

“With the increasing prolif-eration of healthcare IoT devices and their use in hospitals, the threat of the loss of information contained on those devices be-comes increasingly likely,” the report said.

It noted that health care data “is even more valuable than credit card data” on hacker black markets.

McAfee says other threats will also grow, including “ransom-ware,” which locks down data and forces the victim to pay a ransom to retrieve it, and attacks on mo-bile phone operating systems.

In the retail sector, digital pay-ments may cut the risk of credit-card skimmers, but hackers may be able to exploit wireless systems such as Bluetooth and near field communications (NFC) used for mobile payments.

“With consumers now sending payment information over a pro-

tocol with known vulnerabilities, it is highly likely that attacks on this infrastructure will emerge in 2015,” the report said.

The report comes in the wake of news about large-scale cyber-attacks that have been linked to Russia or China, and a major in-

filtration of Sony Pictures which stole massive amounts of data.

In retail, Home Depot and oth-ers have reported data breaches affecting millions of customers.

“The year 2014 will be re-membered as the year of shaken trust,” said Vincent Weafer, se-

nior vice president at Intel-owned McAfee.

“Restoring trust in 2015 will require stronger industry col-laboration, new standards for a new threat landscape, and new security postures that shrink time-to-detection.”

With the background of the Ayung River bank located at Kede-watan village, Ubud subdistrict, the resort designed by Tjokorda Gde Raka Sukawati gives a sensation like a paradise, which cannot be found in other places. This luxury resort is built by taking into account the circumstances of surrounding environment adjacent to the Ayung River. “Here we humanize nature that must be preserved. Both the small and large space are giving vibration because it is an interesting balance,” said Tjokorda Gde Raka Sukawati.

Then, the design masterpiece has been transformed into a magnificent building adopting the philosophy of Tri Hita Karana having long been prepared by the maestro who is familiarly called Tjok De. As first step, in 1999 he made his Balinese architecture by arranging hills and beautifying nature located at Kede-watan village, Ubud. “Before getting started, here I made contemplation with nature, trying to communicate. Then, it was resumed with a series of ceremonies to apply for permission,”

Ubud increasingly eroded by modernization, in fact, there is a tourist accommodation remaining to consistently preserve the balance with Tri Hita Karana concept. Even, every room corner of the luxury resort is like trying to capture the traces of Balinese culture by maintaining the characteristics of its traditional architecture.

he said while pointing the surround-ing nature.

Armed with the idealism in ar-chitecture, his skilful hand designed the layout of his resort buildings, which now looks so pretty as if the hill was hugging a magnificent hotel in Balinese nuance embellished with awesome ornaments and sculptures. “In order to maintain the naturalness, I use materials like sandstone. If us-ing brick, it means there has been a baking process denoting a scientific process,” he explained.

Each working ethos strictly re-ferred to the teachings of Tri Hita Karana or balance of human, nature and the Creator where all relied on contemplation to yield a work having a sacred vibration (taksu), exuding a peaceful aura and hap-piness for those who inhabited or just look through it. He was always convinced that happiness will invite another happiness that physically and psychically become a series of causal and effect for the emergence of peace and cheerful atmosphere that can be presented in a work. “All of these processes have something to

do with the sense. When the input and the process are filled with hap-piness, joy and happy heart, then it will yield the same,” he said.

As a result, entering the year 2004, this masterpiece could have been completed into a resort employ-

ing at least 500 people as labor force where almost half of the artisans and laborers getting involved in the hotel development have been previously given special and serious hospitality training for 2 months. “Now, I have a total of 1,500 employees, and I

Bangli County precisely Pengotan village also has similar war tradi-tion namely the banana sheath war or perang papah biu.

As the name suggests, the ba-nana sheath war is conducted by means of banana sheath. This war tradition is held en masse by hun-dreds of youths in the area of Pena-taran Agung Temple of local village every year around December. It precisely falls on full moon of the sixth month in Balinese calendar.

Before the war procession is done, people will organize a certain ritual at the local temple. The ba-nana sheath war or Baris Babuang Dance will be preceded by senior figure of local village. To enrich the atmosphere, the war will usually be accompanied with gamelan music by local villagers.

War atmosphere will be getting more exciting when hundreds of

youth of Pengotan customary vil-lage gets their turn to dance. With the command of a senior figure of the village, the banana sheath war begins. In practice, the hundreds of young men will hit one another by means of banana sheath like people in brawl. More uniquely, in this banana sheath war, the participants will not recognize which are friends and foes alike. Even, in spite of hit by banana sheath, the participants will not feel any pain.

Chief of Pengotan customary village, Jro Kopok, said the banana sheath war was one of the rituals having been passed down from generation to generation by residents of Pengotan since hundreds of years ago. It was meant to invoke people’s safety and prosperity. “In addition, it is also intended to strengthen togeth-erness and kinship among people,” he explained. (ina)

SAN JUAN, Philippines — A storm that began as a frighten-ingly powerful typhoon started to blow away from the Philippines Tuesday after leaving at least 21 people dead and forcing more than 1.6 million into shelters. Typhoon Hagupit (pronounced HA’-goo-pit) dissipated into a tropical depression after crossing Lubang Island, 135 kilometers (85 miles) southwest of Manila, and was blowing into the South China Sea, forecasters said.

Batangas, the last major province lashed by Hagupit overnight, has so far not reported any casualties or major damage, echoing similar assessments from many central Philippines provinces spared of major losses.

“With God’s grace, there are zero casualties and no injuries because we were able to prepare,” said Mayor Rodolfo Manalo of Batan-gas’ idyllic San Juan town, a flood-prone coastal community popular for its beach resorts, where more than 2,800 villagers fled to a public gymnasium and other shelters be-fore the storm slammed ashore.

In southern Basilan province, Philippine navy vessels including a patrol gunboat rushed to an island

where 18 Chinese fishing boats manned by 250 crewmen dropped anchor, said Capt. Giovanni Carlo Bacordo, head of a navy unit in the area. An inter-agency team inspect-ed the boats, found the fishermen’s papers in order and no illegal items. The team accepted the fishermen’s explanation that they sought shelter from the typhoon while en route from Indonesia to China. The boats were due to sail on Tuesday.

Many of the archipelago’s central provinces were still reeling from last year’s monster Typhoon Haiyan, which left more than 7,300 people dead or missing and a massive trail of destruction, fueling worries about Hagupit as it approached from the Pacific with menacing gusts of 250 kph (155 mph) last week.

Those concerns meant more than a million people readily fled from villages in the path of Hagupit — Filipino for “smash” or “lash — into government emergency shelters.

Hagupit left at least 21 people dead, many of whom drowned in Eastern Samar province, where the typhoon made its first landfall, ac-cording to the Philippine Red Cross. The government disaster-response agency has reported only 11 deaths, saying it was still verifying other reported casualties.

The seven-month long conflict has left more than 4,300 people dead, displaced hundreds of thou-sands and exhausted a nation strug-gling to stave off economic collapse. Separatist rebel leaders have stated their support for the truce, which appeared to be holding around the main rebel-held cities of Donetsk and Luhansk early Tuesday.

Intense shelling continued right up until the eve of the cut-off period for hostilities, claiming multiple casualties. Ukrainian officials said Tuesday that government-con-trolled residential areas and armed positions had come under rocket fire more than 60 times over the previ-ous 24-hour period. Two civilians were killed and another 10 injured as a result of artillery attacks, the officials said.

Meanwhile, local authorities in the main separatist stronghold of Donetsk said two civilians were killed in the rebel-controlled city. The city hall said more than 20 residential buildings were dam-aged by rockets. Poroshenko’s office had announced a new round of peace talks involving Russia and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe would be held Tuesday in the capital of Belarus, Minsk.

Those talks have not material-

ized, and rebels accuse Kiev of bad faith in pursuing a long-term peace agreement. They have pointed in particular to a decision by Ukraine’s government last month to cut off rebel territories from basic gov-ernment services and welfare and pension payments as an attempt to subjugate the local population.

Vasiliy Vovk, head of the Ukrai-nian security services’ investigative department, said Monday night in a televised appearance that peace negotiations would take place in Minsk on Friday.

The United States, European Union, Germany and many other Western nations have strongly criticized Russia’s role in Ukraine’s conflict, accusing it of supplying rebels with manpower and arms. Moscow denies that it is supporting the rebellion, although it is strongly critical of Ukraine’s government and its robust efforts to rein in breakaway territories.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov struck a conciliatory note Tuesday in a signal that Moscow could support the return of separat-ist areas into Ukraine’s fold.

Lavrov told state news agency RIA-Novosti that rebels were ready “to restore a common economic, humanitarian and political space” with Ukraine.

KIEV — Ukraine’s military authorities said they suspended hostilities Tuesday against Russian-backed separatists in the east in line with a truce declared last week. President Petro Poroshenko declared a “day of silence” Thursday, hoping to revive a September cease-fire deal that has been breached almost daily.

SINGARAJA - Buleleng Police still investigating the case of take away rice poising that afflicted 104 employees and guests of the 59th anniversary celebrations of Buleleng Hospital. A number of rice samples and testimonies of witnesses, including the owner of Dewi Lestari food stall, AKA Jokwi, Singaraja, which provided the rice.

Chief of Buleleng Police Crimi-

nal Investigation Unit, Ketut Adnyana TJ, with permission from the Chief of Buleleng Police, Kurniadi, revealed on Monday (Dec 8), that he was still inves-tigating the case. “We are still examining witnesses, including the owner of the food stall that provided the rice as well as the committee of the Buleleng Hos-pital anniversary. There are six witnesses in all that are being examined.” he said

The poisoning occurred on

Friday (Dec 5), and police are still waiting for the results from the Forensic Laboratory of Den-pasar to see “whether there is any toxic substance in the rice. It is still under investigation”. In their statement to police, the comity said that they had pur-chased the take away rice dishes from the Jokwi food stall around 11 am and distributed the food to employees, but they did not have any knowledge of what happened after that.” he said.

Adnyana TJ asserted that his party is relying on the results of the forensics laboratory to ascertain what caused so many people to be poisoned. “There are no fatalities in this poisoning case. Here were 450 take away rice portions in all,” he said.

Owner and manager of Warung Jokwi on Jalan Ahmad Yani 89 Singaraja, Ketut Ari Oka, 46, from Seririt, Singaraja, that the food was cooked the night before the event by some extra employees

he hired to fill the large order. The take away portions themselves were prepared around 5 am. He stated that the preparations were done according to correct proce-dures and there was no intention to poison anyone.

“We prepared the dishes in two separate locations, namely at the branch in Seririt and in Singaraja. We apologize to all the victims of the poisoning and rare ready to help them with medical treatment cost,” he concluded. (kmb34)

The temporary disposal site was established in 2012 on land owned by Tista and Bangkang customary village. It was built on the roadside and located in the same area as the cemetery and Dalem Temple area in the south. Mean-while, in the west stands the SDN 1 Baktiseraga elementary school.

The waste site has been full of gar-bage heaps ever since it was established but reached peak capacity recently. Not only is there garbage scattered on the street but is now also littering the cemetery and Dalem Temple.

Students and teachers from SDN Baktiseraga have complained of the overwhelming stench.

Because of such conditions the site has been closed. At the front entrance of the disposal site there is a sign stating that site had been closed since November 30, 2014. Despite this garbage continues to mount here. Luckily, garbage trucks owned by the Buleleng Sanitation and Landscaping Agency (DKP) are still removing rub-bish dumped outside the site..

Headman of Baktiseraga village, I Ketut Ngurah, from his office last Monday confirmed that the disposal site was in fact closed. He said that since it was granted to both custom-ary villages, his party did not interfere with the decision on the closure of the disposal site. Nevertheless, according to Ngurah, the activities at the disposal site lately have begun to cause distur-bances to the surrounding environment.

Especially the graveyard and Dalem Temple area that have been polluted by the growing volume of waste every day. Similarly, teachers and students of the SDN 1 Baktiseraga are also suffer-ing from the scent of rotting garbage in the disposal site, which is disrupting school activities.

When asked about the cause of the growing volume of waste, Ngurah al-leged that the site was not only being used by residents of Tista and Bang-kang customary villages, but also by other residents of other villages. In response to such conditions, the closure of the site was considered an appropri-ate measure.

Now, residents have access to waste disposal services provided by roving vehicles managed by individuals with monthly levy of IDR 25,000. The waste is immediately dumped into the closest landfill (TPA) in Buleleng.

“If the disposal site was only being used by residents of the two villages for whom it was intended, the site could accommodate the volume of waste produced. But the fact is that residents from outside our village also dispose of their waste there. Even, after being closed there are still residents disposing rubbish here and I am confident they are from outside our village,” said the former junior high school teacher.

Following the closure of the dis-posal site, the building asset is to be submitted to both customary villages to support other interests. (kmb38)

SINGARAJA - The construction of a temporary disposal site (TSP) at Baktiseraga village, Buleleng subdistrict, was forced to be closed as it was unable to accommodate the growing volume of waste. As a result, the graveyard area and the Tista and Bangkang customary villages area have become polluted from the waste overflow at the disposal site. The smell of rotting rubbish is even disturbing the students at SDN 1 Baktiseraga elementary school.

LANGKAT - A Sumatran Tiger (Pan-thera tigris sumatrae) reportedly trespassed and preyed on cattle belonging to the local residents of a village in Bahorok Sub-district, Langkat District, North Sumatra Province.

Head of Section V of Bahorok Sub-district Pabel Turnip stated on Tuesday that the local residents have filed a report regarding the tiger attack.

Due to the dwindling numbers of natural prey in its habitat in Mount Leuser National Park, the tiger was aggressively hunting for food in the local village.

“In fact, the local people are raising their cattle in the area within the tiger’s hunting corridor, and this has driven the tiger down to the residential area in Bahorok,” Turnip explained.

Moreover, Turnip urged the local residents to change their cattle-raising method by avoiding the tiger’s zone to prevent further incidents. Therefore, the local authority has set up a restriction zone for local residents in the area around the tiger’s habitat.

In the meantime, a local ranger Jhon Purba said that he and his unit were armed to stand guard round-the-clock at the location.

Purba stated that the CCTV footage of the Mount Leuser National Park Agency revealed the activity of the tiger in the habitat. Tourists and tourist guides have been advised to abstain from visiting the location as the situation is not conducive.

The carcass of the cattle was still lying at the outskirts of the forest.

“We want the carcass to be dragged by the tiger into the forest,” Purba noted, adding that no one should come near the area because if the tiger detects human scent, it will get dis-tracted and will ignore the carcass.

Monday’s incident was the latest flare-up in violence in the eastern region, where poorly armed fight-ers have been waging a low-level insurgency against Jakarta for de-cades on behalf the mostly ethnic Melanesian population.

There were conflicting reports about what happened. Police said that four people died when several hundred protesters attacked military and police posts in the remote Madi area, in mountainous Paniai district, and it was not clear who fired the

shots.But Andreas Harsono, a Human

Rights Watch campaigner in Indo-nesia, said five high-school students aged 17 and 18 were shot dead by security forces who fired live rounds into a crowd of protesters.

It is difficult to independently verify information from Papua, as Jakarta keeps a tight grip on the resource-rich region with a heavy police and military presence and there are restrictions on foreigners reporting from the area.

Police and rights activists both said tensions rose when local teen-agers confronted the driver of a vehicle late Sunday. The driver was from a local military unit, accord-ing to Harsono, and returned later with a group of people who beat up the teens.

Overnight Sunday to Monday, a local election office was set on fire and then police and military posts were attacked, Papua police spokes-man Sulistyo Pudjo told AFP.

“Suddenly there were victims, and we did not know who shot them,” he said. “Four died, and 10 others were injured.”

Harsono said that as well as those killed, 21 people were injured, and they included women and chil-dren. He said that he interviewed six

people in Papua.

Dispatch TeamThe National Police Command

has sent a team to investigate a violent incident in Paniai, Papua. “We have sent a team to investi-gate if the gunfire was started by police officers or other parties. The team comprises members from the investigation division (Propam) and general inspectorate division (Irwasum),” National Deputy Po-lice Chief Commissioner General Badrodin Haiti said on Tuesday.

He noted that the team has been assigned the task to investigate who initiated the firing in the incident. He confirmed that four civilians had been killed in the incident, and the Paniai Timur sector police station had been

damaged, while several police offi-cers had also suffered injuries.

Currently, the situation in the region has normalized, and the se-curity personnel are still on guard there, he affirmed.

Papua Regional Police Com-mand Chief Inspector General Yotje Mende revealed that the violence broke out following an argument between the security per-sonnel and community members on the road, which led to a violent clash in Enarotali, the capital of Paniai.

After the clash, sounds of gun-fire were heard from the adjoining mountainous area, and hundreds of community members attacked sub-district military and police stations, which are located side-by-side, he stated.

Reuters JAKARTA - Government plans to dis-

continue early next year a widely criticised school curriculum that emphasises moral and religious education, a minister said on Monday.

The move follows a review ordered by the education ministry after experts com-plained that the curriculum, introduced last year, did little to improve a low-skilled workforce at a time when Southeast Asia’s biggest economy lags its neighbours in competitiveness.

“Changing a curriculum doesn’t auto-matically raise the quality of education,” said Education and Culture Minister Anies Baswedan, adding that teachers and schools had been inadequately prepared to adopt the new measures.

“We have to concentrate on the quality

of teachers.”Former government officials said the

2013 curriculum, launched by the previous government, took an approach to languages and sciences similar to that of developed countries, but dedicated more hours to religious education.

It was rolled out to 218,000 schools across the sprawling archipelago, amid persistent complaints of inadequate teacher training and a lack of teaching materials.

Retno Listiyarti, head of the Indonesia Teachers Union, said she supported the rollback. “Our teachers are lacking qual-ity,” she said. “What we need now is not changing the curriculum, but to improve teachers’ capacity.”

Indonesia spends a fifth of its state bud-get on education but a large portion goes on teacher welfare, analysts said.

A World Bank study this year showed

that “certifying teachers and paying them double does not make them teach better” as measured by students’ test results, which have stagnated in the past decade.

Indonesia was this year ranked last among 40 countries in a global Pearson in-dex based on a combination of international test scores and education data.

Poor education services have long been a brake on Indonesia’s economy, which is growing at its slowest pace in five years.

“If you think about anyone coming to invest in Indonesia, talent is already a major concern,” said Dean Tong, managing direc-tor of Boston Consulting Group.

In 2014, the group said Indonesia faced a shortage of much-needed talent, such as mid-level managers and engineers.

“The urgency to improve talent is very real, very immediate,” Tong added. “We are way too late already.”

DALLAS — American Airlines says it will spend more than $2 billion to make its planes more pleasant for passengers, the latest salvo in a competition among carriers to attract high-paying frequent fliers. The airline had already announced some of the upgrades but added new ones, includ-ing retrofitting some older Boeing and Airbus jets, renovating airport lounges and putting satellite-based Internet access on international flights.

Its rival, Delta, is breaking its two-cabin ser-vice into five levels and giving a few goodies to economy-class customers who pay more than the cheapest fares.

American Airlines Group Inc. said Monday that it will invest in lie-flat seats, Wi-Fi service on international flights, more entertainment of-ferings and a refresh of its airport lounges around the world.

American merged last December with US Air-ways, although the airlines still operate separately. CEO Doug Parker said the company now has a network of flights to compete with rivals and it will be spending money to create a better product. It is adding hundreds of new planes over the next several years.

Delta said Monday that beginning March 1, it will break its two-cabin offering into five classes: Delta One, formerly called BusinessElite, and first class up front; and comfort plus, main cabin and basic economy in back.

Delta spokesman Paul Skrbec said that “com-fort plus” customers will get premium snacks that are now limited to the front cabin, and their seats will have new covers — a “visual cue” that they are sitting in a premium section of the economy cabin. The company will release more details at an investor meeting Thursday, Skrbec said.

Most of the upgrades are aimed at high-spend-ing fliers including business travelers who pay among the highest fares. Delta and United will overhaul their frequent-flier programs early next year to better reward big spenders — American has so far resisted. Changes on the planes and at the airport are not limited to international flights. This summer, JetBlue Airways Corp. added a premium service called Mint with lie-flat beds on transcontinental U.S. flights.

U.S. airlines are able to make such upgrades because they are generating record profits, thanks to strong travel demand and falling energy prices. Demand has been so strong that airline executives have said that they don’t believe they need to pass savings from cheaper fuel to passengers in the form of lower ticket prices.

At American, the company earned $2.3 bil-lion in the first nine months of this year, up from $167 million in the same period of 2013, giving it the resources to upgrade its planes and airport facilities.

On Monday, drugmaker Merck an-nounced that it was spending $8.4 billion to buy Cubist Pharmaceuticals in another sign of the recovering confidence in the market for mergers and acquisitions.

The tie-up helped boost the total value of global deals this year so far to $3.4 trillion. Even if there aren’t any more big deals announced in 2014, it would be the best year since a total of $4.6 trillion of deals were struck in 2007, according to financial data provider Dealogic.

Executives are becoming more con-fident about the prospects for growth as the U.S. economy continues to strengthen despite sluggishness overseas.

A more stable atmosphere in Washing-ton is also helping to build up confidence, said Rich Jeanneret, EY Americas Vice Chair, Transaction Advisory Services. For investors, that’s a welcome change from a recent pattern of spats among lawmakers in recent years that held up spending bills and threatened to bring the country close

to defaulting on its debt.“Brick by brick we’re building a strong

economy, and I think that’s really boding well for the M&A environment,” Jean-neret said. “Executives have confidence in this market.”

The outlook for deals is also being helped by the huge cash piles that compa-nies have built up in the aftermath of the financial crisis. Companies listed in the Standard & Poor’s 500 index hold about $1.2 trillion in cash and cash-equivalent securities, according to S&P Capital IQ. That’s close to a record.

The increase in deals has been one of the factors that sent stock indexes up to record levels this year. Mergers are typically good for stock prices, at least for the companies being bought, because the acquiring com-pany normally pays a premium to ensure that the deal is approved by shareholders of the company being acquired.

For example, Cubist’s stock surged after Merck offered to pay $102 per share

of Cubist, a 37 percent premium to its closing price on Friday.

Still, mergers aren’t all good news.If a tie-up is between two companies in

the same field then job cuts often result as the companies try to seek greater efficien-cies by cutting headcount.

This year, a wave of mergers was also driven by U.S. companies seeking so-called tax inversions. By acquiring an overseas company, the U.S. business can reincorpo-rate its business overseas in a jurisdiction with lower taxes, allowing the company to lower its tax rate. The tactic drew criti-cism from President Barack Obama who described them as unpatriotic because they were eroding the U.S.’s tax base.

Of course, sometimes mergers just don’t work out. AOL’s takeover of Time Warner at the peak of the Internet bubble is a classic example. Time Warner wound up spinning off AOL in May 2009, nine years after a $166 billion dollar merger at the peak of the Internet bubble. In 2002 and 2003, Time Warner absorbed nearly $100 billion in charges to account for the rapidly diminishing value of the combined company, as AOL’s subscription revenues plunged as its dial-up services were re-placed by broadband connections.

Dortmund prosecutors had alleged that the suspect shot 25 men as part of a firing squad and then helped as troops blockaded and set fire to a church, in which dozens of women and children were burned alive.

Werner C. denied the charges, saying that he was at the village but never fired a shot and wasn’t otherwise involved in the slaugh-ter of the 642 civilians.

In its ruling, the Cologne state court said no witness statements disprove the suspect’s conten-tion, nor is there any reliable documentary evidence that he was involved in the massacre.

“In a trial it could probably only be proved the suspect was in the area during the massacre in Oradour-sur-Glane as he has consistently maintained,” the court said. “This mere presence

is not enough to prove accessory to murder without the proof of other circumstances.”

Dortmund prosecutor Andreas Brendel, who led the investiga-tion, said he was surprised by the court’s decision but that it was too early to say whether he would appeal. “I brought charges because I believed that the evi-dence was sufficient,” he said. “The court came to a different conclusion.”

Werner C. was part of the 3rd Company of the 1st Battalion of the “Der Fuehrer” regiment of the fanatical SS’s “Das Reich” division. Four days after the June 6, 1944, D-Day landings in Normandy the company attacked Oradour-sur-Glane in reprisal for the French Resistance’s kidnap-ping of a German soldier.

The troops herded the civilians

into barns and into the church, blocked the doors and then set fire to the entire town. Those not killed in the blazes were shot as they tried to flee, though a hand-ful managed to escape.

In a gesture of reconcilia-tion last year, German President Joachim Gauck and French Presi-dent Francois Hollande together visited the phantom village — whose burned-out cars and aban-doned buildings were left as a memorial to the massacre. Gauck said he shared the bitterness of those in France “over the fact that the murderers have not been brought to justice.”

Brendel is currently investi-gating five other members of the unit involved in the massacre, but said given the lack of witnesses and other evidence, charges are unlikely.

SEOUL — A top executive of Korean Air Lines resigned Tuesday amid mounting public criticism that she delayed a plane over how she was served macadamia nuts.

Company officials said that Chairman Cho Yang-ho has accepted the resignation of Cho Hyun-ah, his eldest daughter and an executive vice president.

The junior Cho was under public fire following media revelations that a recent Korean Air Lines flight from New York to South Korea returned to the gate because she ordered a senior crew member off the plane. Cho was angered that she was served bagged macadamia nuts instead of nuts on a plate.

The airline had apologized for inconveniencing passengers. But it also said it was “natural” for Cho to fault crew’s ignorance of procedures.

In November 1989, President Soeharto of Indonesia gave the name Sosrobahu to the new technology. The name was taken from a character in the Mahabharata, and derives from Old Javanese for thousand (sosro) shoulders (bahu).

Tjokorda’s invention was used by US engineers in the construction of a bridge in Seattle. A patent have been granted for the invention from Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, and Philippines, and has been applied for in South Korea. The Indonesian patent was granted in 1995, while the Japanese patient was granted in 1992. The technology has been exported to the Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Singapore. The longest stretch of overpass built using this technique is in Metro Manila, Philippines at the Villamor/Bicutan link located at the southern part of the metropolis. In the Philippines, 298 supports have been erected, while in Kuala Lumpur, the figure is 135. (nik)

NEGARA - Are you a reliable surfer? Try to get the challenge of the rigorous waves of Medewi Beach. The beach located in Pekutatan subdistrict, Jembrana, about 70 km from Denpasar City is one of the favorite tourist beaches. Aside from being a comfortable place to relax, the beach is also a nice playground to get a challenge for surfing sports.

Medewi Beach is slightly different from the other beaches in Bali. With a sloping position, it is more decorated with the overlay of stones than sand. The waves are huge and liked best by surfers wishing to try out their ability on the sea. You do not have to worry if you want to surf and enjoy the sunset for a long time because hotels and restaurants have been available nearby.

Several surfers have tried the ferociousness of coastal waves offered by Medewi Beach. They are mostly from Australia, Holland and Japan. However, the number of their arrival is uncertain. On holidays such as from January to March, it is more exploited by tourists from Japan, while June through August it draws tourists from Aus-tralian.

Medewi Beach is indeed not widely known. However, the beach is frequently used to hold a surfing event. For example, the Asian Surfing Championship was held last Sunday (May 26). At that time, 70 participants from various countries in Asia were involved. The competition was di-vided into two categories, namely those of 13 to 14 years old were classified into grommet and 15 to 16 years old into junior category.

Even, this international event is held for three times a year. In the past, this event was held on Kuta and Sanur Beach.

But James, putting on a show that few others could, threw some sharp passes to go with his nine points in the period and the Cavs cruised from there to their seventh straight victory. He finished with 18 points after joining Kyrie Irving and some Nets players in wearing “I Can’t Breathe” shirts during warmups.

Golden State’s Stephen Curry overcame a rare off night from long range to post 21 points and seven assists as Golden State downed the Minnesota Timberwolves 102-86 for their 13th consecutive win.

Curry missed six of his seven 3-point attempts, but the top-ranked Warriors’ defense forced the short-handed Timberwolves to shoot 36 percent and turn the ball over 19 times to improve to an NBA-best 18-2. Klay Thompson added 21 points and the Warriors left holding their breath after An-drew Bogut left with a knee injury early in the first quarter.

At Indianapolis, Al Horford scored 25 points and Jeff Teague added 21 as the Atlanta Hawks

beat the Indiana Pacers 108-92. Kyle Korver added 13 points for Atlanta, which has won eight of its last nine games and seven straight. C.J. Miles and Rodney Stuckey each scored 15 points to lead Indi-ana (7-14). Luis Scola came off the bench to score 12.

The Toronto Raptors beat the Denver Nuggets 112-107 in over-time after Kyle Lowry had 13 points and 13 assists, and Jonas Valanciunas added 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Lou Williams scored 26 points and Amir Johnson had 18 for the Raptors, who trailed by five points with less than three minutes to play but got a game-tying 3-pointer from Patrick Patterson with 28 seconds left.

In other games, John Wall scored 26 points, including the last 10, as the Washington Wizards rallied to beat the Boston Bruins 133-132 in double overtime, the Sacramento Kings defeated the Utah Jazz 101-92 and the Los Angeles Clippers were 121-120 overtime winners over the Phoenix Suns.

Jenson Button says the McLaren Formula 1 team’s on-going indecision over its 2015 driver line-up is “strange”. McLaren has twice deferred finalising its driver line-up for next season, after failing to reach agreement at board level over whether Button or his 2014 F1 team-mate Kevin Magnussen should partner Fernando Alonso when the Spaniard rejoins the Woking squad next season.

Speaking about the continu-ing uncertainty over his F1 fu-ture at Sunday’s AUTOSPORT Awards, Button said he had no option but to simply cope with McLaren’s indecision.

“It’s a strange situation, but sometimes in life you find your-self in these difficult situations and you just have to deal with it,” Button said. “If it was my

first year in F1 it would be a lot more difficult, but I’ve had an amazing career in Formula 1 - to win a world championship and achieve what I’ve achieved has been an amazing experience.

“A couple of months ago were very tricky, but now you just go with it. “The last few races were really enjoyable and I’ve worked with some amazing people at McLaren.

“It’s been a real pleasure to work with those guys.” McLar-en racing director Eric Boul-lier also attended the awards ceremony in London and said he hoped the matter would be resolved very soon. “There is actually no decision yet,” Boul-lier said.

“It’s a question of days now I hope, because we all want to know with whom we are going to work next year.”

NEW YORK — LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers turned a close game into a clinic, after Britain’s Prince William and his wife, Kate, took courtside seats to watch them, beating the Brooklyn Nets 110-88 on Monday. Kevin Love was shooting free throws when the royal couple emerged from into the stands with 7:14 remaining in the third quarter. Perhaps distracted by the loud roar, Love missed the second, leaving the game tied at 61.

Van Persie scored with United’s only two efforts on target to give Louis van Gaal’s side its fifth win a row and overtake Southamp-ton in third place. Southampton dropped to fifth behind West Ham after its third straight loss against the teams it hopes to challenge for a top-four spot — Manchester City, Arsenal and United. Van Persie punished a wasteful perfor-mance from the home side, which created enough chances to win the game comfortably.

He took advantage of a defen-sive blunder to put United ahead after 12 minutes, and went un-marked to meet Wayne Rooney’s free kick at the far post to poke in the winner after Graziano Pelle had levelled for Southampton in the 31st. “I don’t think we played our best football today,” Van Persie said. “In the end, it’s a fifth straight victory. We’re on the way up.”

United’s opener came when Southampton captain Jose Fonte hit a poor backpass to goalkeeper Fraser Forster and Van Persie ran through, waited for Forster to dive and stroked the ball through his legs and into the far corner. But United was unable to build any momentum from its goal, as Southampton relentlessly attacked in search of an equalizer.

It finally came after Marouane Fellaini gave the ball away in midfield, and Dusan Tadic initi-ated a quick attack. He played the ball out to Shane Long on the edge of the area, who returned it with a high cross. Tadic’s effort was blocked by Paddy McNair, but the ball fell to Pelle who converted from close range.

Long could have put Ronald Koeman’s side ahead in the 34th but blasted high and wide from close range after McNair failed to

clear a touch from Sadio Mane.Southampton’s dominance was

so strong that Van Gaal felt com-pelled to take off the struggling McNair in the 39th and replace him with Ander Herrera. But it was Southampton that continued to threaten in the second half. Tadic floated an inviting ball across the penalty area toward Long, who was only able to head straight at David De Gea.

Southampton missed another chance in the 57th when the Serbia internation-al threaded the ball into Pelle, only for the Italy striker to lift his shot over.

Eventually, a chance fell Unit-ed’s way and Van Persie punished Southampton in the 71st. Rooney whipped an inviting free kick into Southampton’s area and Van Persie ran unmarked to the back post to

In Verona, defender Rafa Marquez was sent off for tripping Eder inside the area and the speedy Brazilian forward converted the ensuing pen-alty midway through the first half to put Sampdoria ahead. Luca Toni equalized in the 37th by knocking in a rebound but Sampdoria dominated the second half.

Stefano Okaka broke the deadlock in the 57th with a header following a perfect cross from Manolo Gabbiadini. Then Gabbiadini finished off a coun-terattack five minutes later.

L O N D O N — D e f e n d i n g champion Arsenal will host Hull in the third round of the FA Cup in a repeat of last season’s final. There were two other all-Premier League matches when teams from English football’s top two divi-sions joined Monday’s draw, with Everton at home to West Ham and Newcastle away to Leicester.

Premier League teams Crys-tal Palace and West Bromwich

Albion were drawn against non-league sides Dover and Gates-head, respectively. Seventh-tier Blyth Spartans, the lowest-ranked team in the draw, is at home to second-tier Birmingham.

Premier League leader Chelsea is at home to Watford, Manchester City hosts Sheffield Wednesday, and Manchester United will be away to fourth-tier Accrington or third-tier Yeovil. The matches will be played in the first week-end of January.

Reuters SAO PAULO - Brazilian soccer legend Pele

has overcome a urinary tract infection and will be discharged from the hospital where he had kidney stones removed three weeks ago, his doctors said on Monday.

“Considering his good recovery, the medical team programmed his release for tomorrow,” the doctors at Sao Paulo’s Albert Einstein hos-pital said in a statement.

The three-time World Cup champion un-derwent surgery to remove kidney stones on Nov. 13, but was readmitted 10 days later with a urinary tract infection that required dialysis. At one point, he was moved into a hospital wing used for more intensive care.

The 74-year-old Pele, who is often called the greatest soccer player in history, assured fans that he had recovered in a video released on Friday that showed him smiling and strumming a guitar with family members by his side.

PARIS - Michel Pla-tini is refusing to back incumbent Sepp Blatter or challenger Jerome Cham-pagne in next year’s FIFA presidential election with

the UEFA boss saying he hopes a third candidate will

emerge. Speaking to French radio Europe 1 on Tuesday, the former France captain said that it was time for Blatter, who is running for a fifth con-secutive term after being first elected in 1998, to leave the stage.

“I supported him in 1998 be-

cause I think he was the right person at the time but after five (sic) terms it is time to let some fresh air in and leave the place to someone else,” the Frenchman said. “The image of FIFA is very, very, very bad so that’s why I think it would be good that he (Blatter) stops, but I don’t think he wants to.”

Asked who he would back for the election, Platini said none of the two candidates had his preference. “Neither,” said the 59-year-old, who confirmed in August that he would not be run-ning in the election due to be held next May.

“I hope others will run,” he added, explaining that a candidate from another continent would stand a better chance of usurping Blatter. “An-other European candidate would have very little chance of winning,” Platini said.

SAO PAULO — The eight-time na-tional champion Palmeiras has fired coach Dorival Jr. after narrowly escaping relega-tion in the Brazilian football league.

Palmeiras made the announcement Monday, a day after it retained its place in the top flight thanks to Vitoria’s 1-0 loss to Santos in the competition’s final round. Palmeiras was held to a 1-1 home

draw by Atletico Paranaense, enough to finish two points ahead of Vitoria.

Dorival Jr., a former Palmeiras player, was hired in September to replace Ar-gentine coach Ricardo Gareca, who was fired only three months into the job after losing seven of nine league matches.

Palmeiras lost five of its last six games under Dorival Jr., who led the team to six wins, five draws and nine losses. Palmei-ras has won the most Brazilian titles.

BERLIN — A German court on Tuesday threw out the case against a former SS man ac-cused of involvement in the largest civilian massacre in Nazi-occupied France, saying there was not enough evidence to bring the 89-year-old to trial. Cologne resident Werner C., whose last name has not been revealed in accordance with German privacy laws, was charged with murder and accessory to murder in connection with the 1944 slaughter in Oradour-sur-Glane in southwestern France.

(nik)

(kmb38)

Then, it was resumed with a series of ceremonies to apply for permission,”

he said while pointing the surround-ing nature.

“Now, I have a total of 1,500 employees, and I

know each of them. Every morning, I have a promenade and greet them. This is what I call a harmonious re-lationship produced by a harmony,” said the doctoral program graduate from the University of Brawijaya, Malang. (nik)

(ina)

“III” is at its most interesting when it swerves a bit, as with the grungy electro buzz of “I Like It” or the low-key, McCartneyesque charm of “Amazing” — a word only true fans will apply to this album.

which designed specifically for this ritual, start to be carried by 400 people from Ubud.

“It used to take around 30 min-utes for us to carry bade to cem-etery, but now, it only took around 15 minutes,” stated Tjokorda Arta Ardana Sukawati that was met after palebon ceremony.

“We, in the sake of our family, would like to say thank you to all people that make this ritual cer-emony a great success,” he added.

PattentRaka Sukawati was famous be-

cause he found Sosrobahu technique which a great use in road construction. The technique is a road construction technique which allows long stretches of flyovers to be constructed above existing main roads with a minimum of disruption to the traffic. The tech-nique was designed by Tjokorda Raka Sukawati and involves the construc-tion of the horizontal supports for the highway beside the existing road,

which is then lifted and turned 90 degrees angle before being placed on the top of the vertical supports to form the flyover pylons.

This technique is of considerable value in increasing road mileage in large cities where there is a restricted space for new roads and where the closure of existing roads for the length of time to build a flyover using normal construction techniques would impose significant economic costs.
