The Gothic Tudor-style man-sion, which has an area of 20,000 square feet (1,858 square meters), was listed earlier this year for $200 million, Reuters reported in January.

in an emailed statement. In addition to a tennis court,

free-form swimming pool and other amenities, the estate is home to the Playboy grotto, which over the years was the setting for some of Hefner’s most lavish parties.

The mansion was built in 1927 and purchased by Playboy in 1971 for a reported $1.1 million, a figure property agents said was the largest real estate transaction in Los Ange-les history at that time. (rtr)

LOS ANGELES - The famed Los Angeles mansion of Hugh Hefner, founder of the Playboy empire, is under contract to be sold to private equity executive Daren Metropoulos, a Playboy Enterprises spokesman said on Monday.

Former World Bank economist Pedro Pablo Kuczysnki’s razor-thin lead over Keiko Fuji-mori shrank to fewer than 51,000 votes early Tuesday morning. With tallies from nearly 97 percent of polling stations processed, Kuczyn-ski had 50.2 percent of the votes compared with Fujimori’s 49.8 percent.

While two quick counts showed Kuczyn-ski prevailing in a tight contest, still to be counted are the ballots of 885,000 Peruvians eligible to vote abroad, the majority living in the United States. They turned out mas-sively for Fujimori in the 2011 election.

“Now, the entire sand has gone and has been withdrawn again by the owner namely Lord Varuna. Before the reclamation starts, this has happened. If the reclamation is agreed, Kuta can disappear and sink. It becomes his wrath through the signs of nature. This is an augury for mankind so as

to not be greedy for nature,” he explained.

According to Alit, this phe-nomenon is not psychically cor-rect. The rulers and businessmen wishing to do reclamation to Benoa Bay should think twice. It is especially regarding the possible aftermath if they con-tinuously force to rape the nature. Never sacrifice Bali for the sake of a few people.

“The rejection movement has

been almost widespread, but all of our leaders are deaf. If they are willing to listen to the rejec-tion of wider community, yes ... they must stop and not continue it. Later on, if the study indeed really requires it, it is a different mat-ter. For now, it’s not necessary,” said the man who is also Deputy Chairman of the Indonesia Ho-tel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) Badung.

Alit asked the officials and inves-

tors to no longer lure people with job opportunities. The promise of 200,000 job opportunities does not make sense with the Bali’s un-employment rate of only 70,000. Of course the remaining 130,000 job opportunities will be given to people from outside Bali. When this happens, Bali will be getting more crowded with residents and the social problems accompanying it.

“Just like a boat, when it has been fully occupied by passengers but still

forced it can sink. Now, Kuta faces severe problem, traffic jams and so on. Dense population will results in social problem, and fierce competi-tion will have an impact on security. When being unsafe, it means that it has uncomfortable. So, the reclama-tion is unreasonable. It is just for the sake of one or two investors and some people that do not understand. They just consider it important to fill in their pocket and their own belly,” he said. (kmb32)

As experienced a salt farmer of Kusamba named Ketut Kap-ing, he could not produce salt any longer because the waves on the beach is very large although the weather situation is considered fine. Salt farmers rely on sunlight to make salt.

“Now, we just can sit around while waiting for the big waves to subside. If we force to pro-

duce, we’ll suffer losses because the salt material will be swept again by the waves,” said Kap-ing, Monday (Jun. 6).

According to Kaping, the difficulty to make salt is also experienced by 16 other salt farmers around the Kusamba Beach. Moreover, salt warehouse and filtering warehouse of two salt farmers along with the raw

materials were swept away by waves. So, they do no longer have any equipment to produce salt. “We cannot do anything alone, while the sun is blazing, and it is a great time for making salt. But so far the waves do not recede,” he complained

Besides, Kaping recognized that he is now difficult to meet the market demand. There are

always customers from Den-pasar coming to purchase salt to Kusamba. However, with this condition he cannot meet the demand, while the salt stock owned by farmers in the group has been sold out. “Our salt stock was sold out two weeks ago. We do not have anything else. Actually this Wednesday or Buda Cemeng Kelawu we will hold temple festival and have to buy the ingredients of offerings,” he said.

Kaping mentioned that most of the salt farmers of Kusamba come from poor families. How-ever, with the current condition

they are increasingly difficult to meet the needs of daily life. Moreover, they already ran out of supplies last week and have to rely on loans from a neighbor to buy rice. Not to mention, the super salt demand for export cannot be met at all because they have not produced since earlier this year. Actually the price of local salt usually sold for IDR 4,000 per 2.5 kilograms rose to IDR 7,000, while the super quality salt for export is sold for IDR 7,000 per kilogram. “Export demand remains to exist, but there are no the exporters,” he said. Huge waves hitting the coastal area of Kusamba did not only have impacts on fishermen. The five-meter high waves having occurred since this week also made salt farmers at Kusamba distraught. They are no longer able to produce salt because the location of their salt farming was hit by the waves. More sadly, some of their huts on the beach were destroyed by the waves.

In its continuing traditon of reaching out to and involving the surrounding community, the Bali Safari & Marine Park invited children from the Jodie O’Shea Orphanagein Bali to spend World Environment Day 2016learning the im-portance of protecting the earth and ways to live their lives in an environemtally responsible manner.

Targeting the coming generation of young Indonesians who will help deter-mine the future course of the Earth, the Bali Safari and Marine Park organized a range of activities designed to inculcate values embracing responsible action in support of a “green world.” The chil-dren from the Orphange participated in “color searches” where, divided into five groups, the kids were dispatched to various locations within the 40-hectare Park complex and presented with unique team challenges intended to share prac-tical knowledge on how to protect the natural world. Once each team found the “treasure” of a paint supply, they were given the task of painting a waste bin for the Park in their team’s color.

After gracing the Park with brightly colored trash bins, the kids signed their names on a large canvas pledging to “Act Now for a Better Future,” leaving their team color hand prints as proof

of an enduring promise to live in ac-cordance with the sustainable rules of a green planet.

These and other activities have been developed by the Park to encourage the visiting children and others to develop a greater concern for the natural environ-ment. As the coming generation, children will play the pivotal role in creating a sustainable world. Through the teaching and sharing of valuable lessons about the natural world, tomorrow’s leaders will be better equipped to act in a responsible way towards Mother Earth.

William Santoso, General Manager of the Bali Safari and Marine Park, said: “As a conservation body we have been entrusted with the care of wild animals and the natural environment. The world is not merely the home of mankind, but also the home of all living things. Through the thoughtful celebration of World Environment Day we hope that the entire community, not only in Bali but around the planet, will begin to understand the absolute necessity to preserve and protect the environment for coming generations. This can begin with the simplest of actions, such as keeping a clean local environment and using the Earth’s resources in a responsible and sustainable way.

Act Now for the Future of the EnvironmentThe world celebrated World Environment Day on June 5, 2016 – a

date set aside since 1972 by the UN General Assembly, that serve to inspires the people of the planet with the resounding theme – “There is Only One Earth.” Simultaneous activities conducted in countries around the world on that date seeks to raise the global community’s consciousness of the need for positive action in support of a sustainable world environment.

NEW YORK — Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg briefly found his Twitter account hijacked, as were at least two of his other social media accounts.

Zuckerberg’s Facebook account and password were not compro-mised, the company said in a statement; his account on Facebook-owned Instagram was also unaffected. Facebook Inc. said Monday morning that none of the company’s systems or accounts were accessed and that Zuckerberg’s affected accounts have since been re-secured.

A person close to the situation confirmed that Zuckerberg’s Linke-dIn and Pinterest accounts also were affected. Officials for both of those social media networks didn’t immediate respond to requests for comment.

Screenshots preserved by the technology website Engadget showed someone with access to his largely dormant Twitter account using it to say Zuckerberg was “in the LinkedIn database” and inviting the social media mogul to get in touch. LinkedIn declined to comment.

It’s not yet clear how the hack happened, although a spate of massive data breaches at companies — along with recent news that a 2012 breach at LinkedIn Corp. was much bigger that previously disclosed — has recently given hackers a wealth of password data to work with. Several high profile Twitter users have also had their accounts hijacked in recent weeks.

Zuckerberg’s name is synonymous with Facebook, but the bil-lionaire has several accounts on rival social networks, including one registered with Google Inc. None appear very active. (ap)

Skype co-founders Ahti Heinla and Janus Friis were in search of a new project, and an industry yet to be disrupted by technology. After some deep research into the delivery indus-try, they realised what is the largest inefficiency in the delivery chain: the “last mile”. This final stretch between transportation hub and the customer’s front door often amounts to the largest portion of the total delivery cost.

To tackle this inefficiency, Starship Technologies have built the world’s first commercially available, 99% au-tonomous, on-demand delivery robot. As Henry points out, “by reducing the transportation and labour costs associ-ated with delivery, we can achieve lo-cal, on-demand delivery for £1, which at the moment is completely unheard of and impossible.” (IBP/net)

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg loses control of social media

In this Saturday, March 19, 2016, file photo, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg speaks during a panel discussion held as part of the China Development Forum at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing. Zuckerberg briefly found his Twitter account hijacked, as were at least two of his other social media accounts.

UBUD - Generally when people think of Balinese sculpture it ia assumed that men are doing the sxulpting with women focused on sales. In Labak hamlet, Singakerta Ubud for example, this is not the case. Classical style scupltures here are made by the gentle touch of women too. How you may ask is business thus affected?

As one drives through Singakerta, many housewives can be seen working away on various statues, sanding and painting in their roadside home-studios. Nobody looks bored as they work or stop to chat. One of the sculptrsses named, Ketut Wirati, said that she has been involved in this craft since 1998 when ahe was still in high school. Growing up under difficult economic conditions Wirati taught herself these skills herself and eventually became quite skilled.

“It is hard to find a job but fortunately there ia handycraft work like this that allows housewives to be empowered”, said Wirati on Monday (Jun. 6).

This mother of two went on to reveal that although she works from 8AM-5PM but only makes IDR 30,000. Although she.does.not.earn as much as much as civil servats, Wirati saud that she never underestimates the fact that her work helps to support her family.

This kind of work also allows her to care for her 1 and a half year old. “I do not consider this work to be a burden. It is better than not working at all” she said.

In the past Wirati would make her own sculptures of dolphins and the like but with so few buyera she now focuses mostly on sanding and painting. “ I still make statues but there are not many buyers”, she explained.

Nyoman Dasning an aged grandmother revealed a similar story, explaining that this craft has been a great help to her. Although her stamina is not what it once was, she can still earn a little money. When she first started working ahe only paid IDR. 7,000 a day. “I have been doing this work since 1997. It is quite long time”, she said

Despite her wrinkled skin her hands are as dexterous as ever and she is still sands various types of sculptures that are ordered by artshops. “Rather than lazing at home, it’s better to work like this, laughing with others ia very important” she concluded. (sos)

The national weather service (BBMKG) for Region III Denpasar recorded that based on its tidal schedules 2016 having been pre-pared the rising tide with significant value may still occur until the June 10, 2016. It particularly happens in the morning and afternoon with a height range of 2.3 -2.7 meters. High waves occurred in the southern part of Bali, while in the northern part of Bali is relatively normal with the range of 0.1 to 0.75 meter.

To that end, the Head of Badung Livestock and Maritime Affairs, I Made Badra, appealed to all fish-ermen to be vigilant against tidal wave having occurred in the past few days. When the huge waves are still happening, all the fishermen are asked not to catch fish for the sake of self-safety.

“With the high waves reaching 2.7 meters, we encourage fishermen to be more careful, even during the harvest season of fish. However, if it harms ... they will be stopped first while waiting for a safer condition,” said Made Badra, Monday (Jun. 6).

Besides, his agency has instructed the Chief of Fish Catching and

Landing (PPI) Kedonganan, I Made Kena, to participate in disseminating information on the extreme weather happening right now. Moreover, the national weather service for region III Denpasar predicted the wave height of 2.3 meters to 2.7 meters will occur though June 10.

“Due to safety consideration, I do hope the fishermen could pay atten-tion to all the warnings issued by the BBMKG,” he said.

According to him, the warning should be noticed by fishermen, even though it is only a prediction that the wave height will occur until June 10. “We expect the fishermen can be waiting until the condition is completely safe,” he said.

In the meantime, some fishermen are still desperate to do activities, even though there is a ban on fish-ing from local government. “Some fishermen are desperate to go to sea. Thus, I leave a message that they must be more careful. If necessary, they must take day off first because most of them have not gone to sea since this week,” said the Kerta Bali Kedonganan fishermen group leader, Kuta, I Ketut Suardinata.

Nevertheless, Ketut Suardinata admitted that during the period of May to June is the moment for fisher-men to earn more living. Indeed this period is the fish harvest season for fishermen. However, with the high tide, fishermen will be unable to do activities as in previous seasons.

“If the weather is fine, June is the fishing season. But now the fish availability is only a little. Probably this happens because of big waves,” he concluded.

In the meantime, in the area of Kuta tourist village, the seawater even crashed merchants located approximately 40-50 meters away from the beach. Similar incident also occurred on Petitenget Beach, Nusa Dua and other coastal areas of the Badung district.

To anticipate the high waves, the BBMKG has issued a warning to relevant agencies such as SAR, regional disaster mitigation agency (BPBD), Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) and Lifeguard so that they can be aware of the high waves. Thus, all the agencies can move quickly if there are unexpected things oc-curred. (kmb27)

North Korea has come under growing diplomatic pressure since its January nuclear test and a space rocket launch in February, which led to a new U.N. Security Council resolution in March tightening sanctions against Pyongyang.

“The minister’s visit to Russia following Iran, Uganda and Cuba is part of diplomatic efforts to enlist the international community to the effort to bring about change in North Korea on all fronts,” South Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman Cho June-hyuck told a briefing.

South Korea said last week that Ugandan President Yoweri Musev-eni has pledged to halt security and military cooperation with North Korea, following a summit in Kam-pala with South Korean President

Park Geun-hye.Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se

visited Cuba, a first for the country’s top diplomat, and held talks with his counterpart, Bruno Rodriguez, at the weekend. South Korean media said Yun conveyed Seoul’s hope for establishing diplomatic ties with Havana.

In May, Park made the first visit to Iran by a South Korean leader in the hope of broadening political and commercial ties after Iran emerged from years of economic sanctions in January.

Cho also said Poland had stopped issuing visas for North Korean workers amid concern that Pyong-yang may be subjecting them to conditions that violated their hu-man rights.

An official at the Polish em-bassy in Seoul said Poland had not issued any work visas for North Korean citizens this year, in reac-tion to the North’s nuclear test and rocket launch at the beginning of the year.

North and South Korea are technically still at war because their 1950-53 conflict ended in an armistice, not a peace treaty.

North Korea has 53 embassies and overseas missions, according to South Korean government data, some of which have been notorious for engaging in business, including illicit activities.

Much of North Korea’s support at the United Nations is from fellow members of the Cold War-era Non-Aligned Movement. It has enjoyed consistent backing in U.N. General Assembly votes on human rights from a core group including Belarus, Cuba, Egypt, Iran, Syria, Vietnam, Zimbabwe and Venezuela. (rtr)

TOKYO - The seven-year-old Japanese boy abandoned in a forest by his parents for being naughty meant to follow his parents’ car but was crying so hard he went the wrong way, a newspaper said.

Feeling that the woods were “scary”, Yamato Tanooka kept walking along the road even after the sun set, eventually arriving at a military base where he found an unlocked building and slipped in.

The massive search for Yamato Tanooka, after his parents left him by the side of a road in northern Japan as discipline for throwing stones at cars, kept Japan riveted for nearly a week until his discovery on a Japanese military base.

It prompted a flood of social media comment, much of it criti-cal of the parents, but police said on Monday that they would not file charges.

The Mainichi Shimbun news-paper said on Monday he was sobbing so hard he took the wrong direction.

“I walked for about five hours, I think,” Yamato was quoted as saying. After finding the build-

ing, “I was cold so I went inside to sleep.”

Wearing a baseball cap and holding a paper baseball, Yamato waved at journalists and well wish-ers gathered in front of the hospital on Tuesday, occasionally flashing a gap-toothed smile.

Asked how he was feeling, the boy said: “I’m all right.” He added that he was looking forward to getting back to school as his father took his hand and led him to a car.

Yamato’s parents first said he disappeared while they foraged for edible plants, but later told police they had left him by the road to discipline him after he threw stones at people and cars.

They said when they drove back a few minutes later the boy had disappeared.

Yamato said he stayed in the unlocked building for the next six days with no food, although he drank water from an outdoor tap. Although he heard search helicopters flying overhead, he decided to stay where he was and await discovery, media said. (rtr)

SEOUL - South Korea’s foreign minister will visit Moscow next week after touring Cuba, Uganda and Iran as part of a push to enlist North Korea’s old allies to press for change in the isolated state, Seoul said on Tuesday.

“So many investors are inter-ested in waste processing as it is surely profitable. So, why we do not take over together by investing there? By that way, the problem will be getting easier,” said Governor of Bali, Made Mangku Pastika.

In general, added Pastika, inves-

tors having investigated and made presentation wanted the application of tipping fee. In this case, each truck throwing waste to Suwung landfill will have to pay. Besides, they requested the readiness to pro-vide new land free of garbage and located near the existing landfill. If

the government is doing this, there will be income for the region.

“Currently, every truck dispos-ing of waste is just charged at IDR 2,500 - IDR 3,500 per ton. In other words, it can be said to almost pay nothing,” he complained. Actually, according to the agreement at the United Nation, said Pastika, the tipping fee for each truck per ton reaches USD 35 or approximately IDR 472,500 (exchange rate of 1 USD = IDR 13,500).

“If we calculate roughly, the waste production each day reaches 1,500 tons multiplied by IDR 472,500 per day, we can obtain IDR 700 million or more than IDR 250 billion per year,” he explained. Pastika added that PLN Bali is interested in buying electricity from the waste processing

at Suwung. In accordance with the regulation of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) No.44/2015, PLN has to buy elec-tricity from the waste management at USD 20 cents / Kwh.

“Suppose that we can produce at least 1,000 tons of waste per day, it can generate 10 MW and when multiplied by 20 cents, then we can get around IDR 143 billion per year. So, the assumption of benefit from the tipping fees and the sale of electricity could reach IDR 2,008 trillion over five years,” he added.

In the end, said Pastika, this will be beneficial for the people of Bali as well. PLN can receive power supply from the waste to illuminate Bali, and the money from selling the electricity can run the pro-

people program. In the meantime, the four Sarbagita district heads or deputy heads expressed their support toward the plan. However, there are several obstacles that must be addressed as there should be a complete solution related to the cooperation with PT NOEI and the concerns about the application of the tipping fee.

Regent of Badung, Nyoman Giri Prasta, worried if the tipping fee will burden people because all this time they do not pay when dispos-ing of waste. Deputy Regent of Gi-anyar, Agus Mahayastra, explained that Gianyar has its own landfill and waste treatment located at Temesi village. So, it is estimated that up to ten years ahead Gianyar will not throw waste to Suwung.

“Nevertheless, we are ready to support the plan and will invest if necessary,” he said. Related to PT NOEI, Deputy Mayor of Denpasar, IGN Jaya Negara, said that there has been an agreement to terminate the cooperation as of last February. How-ever, it has not been officially done because both parties are still looking for the right time to meet and sign the letter of cooperation termination.

When interviewed separately, Chairman of Commission III of the Bali House of Representa-tives, I Nengah Tamba, asked the government of Sarbagita to move quickly to terminate the coopera-tion with PT NOEI. There has been default because the company could not produce electric power in ap-propriate with the promise in the agreement.

“Parliament has given its sup-port. We should dare to take action, so that it will not delay any longer. The waste has looked like a five star hotel, becoming a problem and en-vironmental illness. Not to mention, it is located close to the Pertamina oil tank, within the radius of just a few meters. If it explodes, then the parties will blame on one another,” he said. (kmb32)

NEGARA - High tidal waves flooded Perancak Village and sur-rounding areas on Monday (Jun. 6). The worst flooding occured at the western tip of Perancak Beach near the Tanjung Tangis estuary.

Near this tributary, the high tide reached the road. Two stalls located lower than the road were inundated in knee high in water. Fishing boats moored along the river were also filled with water. Stall owners, Wayan Mudita and Gede Sujana stated that the worst flooding hap-pened last Monday when the tatami

style stalls were fully submerged in sea water and Mudita has even been forced to move to higher ground.

Local residents have created a concrete embankment. Headman of Perancak, Nengah Parna, said that such high tides occur every year in the coastal areas of Per-ancak.

However, the headman accom-panied by chief of the local BPD, Wayan Budi Adnyana, added that this year was the worst ever. After hearing about the stalls that were flooded he went down to check

out the situation and confirmed that the flooding was indeed quite severe.

The villagers and community leaders have already discussed the plan to use heavy equipment to create an embankment to protect the shore.line. It has been agreed that the owners of thw food stalls will pay for it.

Water also inundated the man-groves at Budeng-Perancang road however by midday the water had receeded enough that vehicles were able to use the road. (kmb26)

24 investors have interest in Suwung landfill

drawn the interest of dozens of investors from home and over-seas. Until now, there have been 24 investors making presenta-tion before the governor to manage the waste at the Sarbagita (Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Tabanan) regional landfill. However, the governor just wanted that the waste with the height reaching 12 meter will be managed by the government. It was stated in the meeting of the Suwung Landfill Manage-ment Plan between the governor of Bali and the heads and deputy heads of Sarbagita district in the meeting room of the governor, Monday (Jun. 6).

BUSINESS

“It would be a nightmare,” she said suggesting the impact could be similar to the 2008 financial crisis. “Why would we do this to our country again? And this time it would be of our own making.”

From the international banks in the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf to the traditional home of Britain’s financial industry in the City of London and the hedge funds of Mayfair, bankers and money man-agers across the capital await the June 23 referendum on EU mem-bership with trepidation. Many fear a vote to leave would undermine London’s position as the world’s pre-eminent financial center and damage an industry that underpins the British economy.

Jamie Dimon, chief executive of U.S. banking giant JPMorgan Chase, underscored those con-cerns last week when he appeared alongside U.K. Treasury chief George Osborne to make the case

for remaining part of the EU single market, which with 500 million people is the world’s biggest economy. In case of a British exit, or Brexit, from the EU, JPMorgan would have to move staff to the continent to ensure it could con-tinue to serve clients who want to invest there, Dimon said. Other global banks with customers in the rest of the EU would be in a similar situation.

“A vote to leave would be a terrible deal for the British economy,” he said. “At a mini-mum, a Brexit will result in years of uncertainty, and I believe that this uncertainty will hurt the economies of both Britain and the European Union.”

Britain has been the gateway to the EU for many banks, brokerages and fund managers for decades. In addition to having a trusted legal system and institutions that operate in English, the language of

international finance, London is in the right time zone to access most of the Earth during its working day and has a reputation for delivering top-notch financial services. The industry is also surrounded by an ecosystem of expertise — lawyers, accountants and consultants — to

support it.Some 60 percent of all European

headquarters of non-EU firms are based in the U.K., according to Th-eCityUK, which lobbies on behalf of the financial industry. The U.K. hosts more headquarters of non-EU firms than Germany, France,

Switzerland and the Netherlands put together.

London’s advantages are such that people in favor of leaving the EU, such as Peter Hargreaves, co-founder of brokerage firm Har-greaves Lansdown, think it will retain its luster no matter what. He poured scorn on the notion that it could be easily replicated.

“In addition to the cost of build-ing the infrastructure for a rival to the City of London one has also got to work out whether people will want to live in another financial center,” he said. “They certainly wouldn’t want to live in Paris —although Paris is a pretty city — purely because of the tax rates, and in all honesty they wouldn’t want to live in Frankfurt because actually there isn’t even the housing there to house them. People want to live in London.”

London’s financial sector has complained about a number of EU rules, such as limits on bankers’ bonuses and an attempt to impose a tax on financial transactions.

Those considerations, however, are largely trumped by concerns that leaving the EU would make access to the other 27 EU countries more difficult, many analysts say.(ap)

“For sure, I will listen to feed-back from the National Police (Polri), the National Police Com-mission (Kompolnas), and the community. Certainly, in making a decision, I will abide by the exist-ing rules and laws,” Jokowi stated here, Tuesday.

The government has not made any decisions on whether to replace or extend the term of General Haiti, who will enter retirement in July 2016, he remarked. The president claimed he had not received a po-lice chief candidate proposal from Kompolnas.

On Monday, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said the Presi-dent had the prerogative to decide whether to replace or extend Gen-eral Haitis term.

Kompolnas Chief Luhut Binsas Pandjaitan, concurrently Coordi-nating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, reportedly presented a list of police chief can-didates to the Head of State.

In the meantime, a legislator noted that five officers of the Polri could be candidates for the depart-ments top job, replacing the outgo-ing national police chief.

“These five police officers are Commissioner General Budi Gunawan, Commissioner General Budi Waseso, Commissioner Gen-eral Suhardi Alius, Commissioner General Putut Bayu Seno, and Commissioner General Safruddin. I think all of them are capable of leading the Polri and making it an institution capable of protect-ing the people,” Nasir Djamil, a member of Commission III on legal and security affairs of the House of Representatives, stated recently.

He was also of the view that the five police officers were competent enough to ensure the Polri remains a credible force and the public reposes its trust in the institution.(ant)

“The bus was carrying seven passengers when the accident took place. One passenger was injured and taken to the nearest hospital for medical treatment,” the bus operating companys spokesperson, Prasetia Budi, told ANTARA News on Tuesday. The injured passenger suffered injuries to the hand and head, the spokesperson added.

Based on information from an onboard officer, the accident

took place at the Buncit Indah bus stop after dropping off pas-sengers.

After a number of passengers departed the bus, the bus driver lost control of the vehicle and struck the separator on the right side of the bus way, according to authorities. The bus then struck a tree on the roads median and flipped over on the bus way.

“Currently, the bus driver and the onboard officer are under investigation by the Jakarta Po-lice,” Prasetia said.

The accident caused a major traffic jam, as bus way lanes in both directions were temporarily closed until the damaged bus was removed. (ant)

While awaiting the departure of the ship to Japan on June 8, the public is allowed to take a tour of it. The ship will continue to sail to its final destination in Japan. Since it set sail on May 11, the replica ship of Majapahit has coursed through Brunei Darus-salam and the Philippines.

The timber ship, measuring 20 x 4.5 meters, successfully docked at Pontianak, West Kalimantan Province, Indonesia, as its first stopover on May 14-17, 2016.

The ship then made a halt at Brunei Darussalam and Manila, the Philippines, as its second and third stopover locations along the expedition.

After the fourth stopover in Taiwan, the ship will continue to head to Japan after Okinawa and will dock at the harbor in Tokyo at the end of June 2016 as its final destination.

The expedition is expected to restore the love of the sea among the younger generation, which will help to uphold the spirit of Nawacita and transform Indone-sia into a global maritime axis.

Nawacita comprises nine ide-als promoted by Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)s administration, which include reforming the legal system and its enforcement process to be free of corruption, upholding dignity and trust, as well as strengthening Indonesias identity as a maritime nation. FRANKFURT — The Euro-pean Central Bank says seven coun-tries in the European Union fulfill most of the requirements for joining the bloc’s common currency, the euro — but none has met all of the standards.

The ECB said Tuesday in a review that many of the countries have made progress when it comes to limiting inflation and budget deficits.

But none meets all the tough requirements for joining the EU’s

19-country shared currency, which has been shaken by a debt crisis that raised concerns about its economic foundations.

The review assessed Bulgar-ia, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Sweden.

In principle, they committed to join the euro simply by becoming members of the EU. In practice, all are years away, and one, Sweden, rejected membership in a 2003 referendum. (ap)

BALI DIRECTORY

LOS ANGELES - Hillary Clinton has reached the number of delegates needed to capture the Democratic U.S. presidential nomination, according to tallies by two U.S. media outlets, as she and rival Bernie Sanders face off on Tuesday in contests in six states.

A former senator and U.S. secretary of state, Clinton would be the first woman to ever be the presidential candidate of a major political party in the country’s history.

But Sanders has vowed to keep up the fight in what has been a long and increasingly antagonistic Democratic primary race.

Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont who calls himself a democratic socialist, has commanded huge crowds spilling out of parks and stadiums, galvanizing younger voters with his promises to address economic inequality.

But Clinton has continued to edge out Sanders, particularly among older voters with longer ties to the Democratic party. Her less lofty promises focus on improving upon the policies of her fellow Democrat and former boss, President Barack Obama.

After the Associated Press and NBC on Monday night said Clinton had clinched the number of delegates needed to win her party’s nomination, a Sanders campaign spokesman castigated what he said was the media’s “rush to judgment.”

Under Democratic National Committee (DNC) rules, most delegates to the party’s July 25-28 convention are awarded by popular votes in state-by-state elections.

But the delegate count also includes “superdelegates” - party leaders and elected senators, members of Congress and governors - who can change their mind at any time.

For that reason, the DNC has echoed the Sanders campaign, saying the superdelegates should not be counted until they actually vote at the Philadelphia convention.

But that has not deterred the news media. The AP and NBC reported that Clinton reached the 2,383 delegates needed to become the presumptive Democratic nominee with a decisive weekend victory in Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory, and a burst of last-minute support from superdelegates. (rtr)

The car was detonated as police buses passed, Istanbul Governor Vasip Sahin told reporters, in the fourth major bombing in Turkey’s biggest city this year.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but Kurdish mili-tants have staged similar attacks on the security forces before, includ-ing one last month in Istanbul.

Security concerns were already hitting tourism and investor con-fidence. Wars in neighbouring Syria and Iraq have fostered a home-grown Islamic State network blamed for a series of suicide bombings, while militants from the largely Kurdish southeast have increasingly struck in cities further afield.

President Tayyip Erdogan vowed

the NATO member’s fight against terrorism would go on, describing the attack on officers whose jobs were to protect others as “unfor-givable”.

“We will continue our fight against these terrorists until the end, tirelessly and fearlessly,” he told reporters after visiting some of the injured in a hospital near the blast site.

Sahin said the dead included seven police officers and four civil-ians and that the attack had targeted vehicles carrying members of a riot police unit. Three of the 36 wounded were in critical condi-tion, he said.

The blast hit the Vezneciler district, between the headquarters of the local municipality and the

campus of Istanbul University, not far from the city’s historic heart. It shattered windows in shops and a mosque and scattered debris over nearby streets.

“There was a loud bang, we thought it was lightning but right at that second the windows of the shop came down. It was extremely scary,” said Cevher, a shopkeeper who declined to give his surname. The blast was strong enough to topple all the goods from the shelves of his store.

The police bus that appeared to have borne the brunt of the explo-sion was tipped onto its roof on the side of the road. A second police bus was also damaged. The charred wreckage of several other vehicles lined the street. (rtr)

Williams ended the Russian’s 11-year reign as the world number one women’s money earner in sports by hauling in $28.9 million in

combined prize money and off-field earnings over the past 12 months, the magazine said on Monday.

Sharapova, who lost some

sponsorship money after announc-ing she had tested positive for the recently banned substance meldonium at the Australian Open in January and is provisionally suspended, holds second spot at $21.9 million.

American mixed martial arts standout Ronda Rousey shot up to

third on the list at $14 million from eighth place and $6.5 million, just ahead of compatriot and NASCAR driver Danica Patrick, who earned $13.9 million, according to www.forbes.com.

The rest of the women’s top 10 were also tennis players.

Poland’s Agnieszka Radwanska

ranked fifth at $10.2 million fol-lowed by Dane Caroline Wozni-acki ($8 million), Spain’s newly-crowned French Open champion Garbine Muguruza ($7.6 million), Serb Ana Ivanovic ($7.4 million), Victoria Azarenka of Belarus ($6.6) and Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard ($6.2 million). (rtr)

FLORIDA - Mixed martial arts fighter Kimbo Slice, who rose to fame in the early 2000s through videos of his unsanctioned street fights and backyard brawls, died on Monday at the age of 42.

The cause of death was not im-mediately made public.

American Top Team, a facility where he trained in Coconut Creek, Florida, announced Slice’s death on Twitter.

“The ATT Family and South Florida community lost a legend today. RIP KIMBO,” their Tweet read.

Slice was taken from his home in Coral Gables, Florida to a hospital

in Fort Lauderdale on Monday. Ser-geant Carla Kmiotek of the Coral Springs police told Yahoo Sports: “We did not receive a police or EMS call from the residence.

“There is no foul play suspected and there is no investigation. It is being handled as a medical inci-dent.”

Scott Coker, president of Bella-tor MMA, an organization for which Slice competed, said in a statement: “We are all shocked and saddened by the devastating and untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family.

“One of the most popular MMA fighters ever, Kimbo was a charis-

matic, larger-than-life personality that transcended the sport.

“Outside of the cage he was a friendly, gentle giant and a devoted family man.”

Slice, who was born as Kevin Ferguson in Nassau, Bahamas, and attended the University of Miami and Bethune-Cook University, compiled a 5-2-1 career MMA re-cord between the UFC and Bellator and was 7-0 with six knockouts in seven professional boxing fights.

He last fought at Bellator 149 in February, defeating Dhafir “Dada 5000” Harris. Slice later tested posi-tive for steroids, wiping the victory from the record books. (rtr)

Di Maria scored in the 51st minute off a pass from Ever Banega, then later assisted on Banega’s goal, and top-ranked Argentina looked plenty powerful without injured captain Lionel Messi in beating Chile 2-1 in its Copa America opener Monday night.

After his goal, Di Maria held up a shirt reading “Grandma, I’ll miss you very much.” “I am so happy because I was able to score. It was for my grandmother and my family that are having a difficult time,” Di Maria said. “In the morning when I knew what happened I knew that I would score today, and that happened, and it was for her. I was afraid of not play-ing, but if I didn’t play, my grandma was going to get mad.”

His coach didn’t even know until afterward and was impressed with Di Maria’s poise given the emotional day.

“Those are very important cir-cumstances and aspects of life that transcend football,” Gerardo Martino said. “He didn’t tell me anything. He was feeling good to play. Not all people respond the same in those situations.”

Di Maria assisted on Banega’s deflected goal in the 59th minute as Messi cheered from the bench. Jose Pedro Fuenzalida scored in the third

minute of stoppage time as Chile avoided a shutout.

There were five yellow cards is-sued in a testy rematch of last year’s final won by La Roja on penalty kicks. Cards were given to Di Maria and Gary Medel in the 65th minute after they tussled near the left side-line of Argentina’s offensive half.

Chile’s Eugenio Mena was taken off on a stretcher in the 53rd minute after pulling up and appearing to grab his right hamstring, with no contact made.

Playing at home last year, Chile beat Argentina and Messi 4-1 on penalty kicks for La Roja’s first Copa championship. Argentina’s senior team has not won a major title since the 1993 Copa, losing to Germany in the 2014 World Cup final. Argentina beat Chile 2-1 in World Cup qualifying in Santiago on March 24.

Monday’s match in the San Fran-cisco 49ers’ $1.3 billion stadium attracted a sellout crowd of 69,451 — outdrawing the Friday opener in which Colombia beat the United States 2-0 and a crowd of 67,439 was announced.

Both teams had good chances in a fast-paced first half featuring two yellow cards against Chile.

Nicolas Gaitan had a header from

8 yards in the second minute that Chile goalkeeper Johnny Herrera punched over the crossbar. In the 18th minute, Gaitan — starting in place of Messi — went down hard and his right knee buckled after a tackle from behind by Arturo Vidal that earned him a yellow card.

Gonzalo Higuain’s shot from the left side in the box went just left off the post in the 23rd minute, then Argentina had another chance thwarted on Marcos Rojo’s header off a corner kick.

La Albiceleste goalkeeper Mari-ano Andujar made a great diving stop in the 30th minute, using his right hand to swat away a shot by Alexis Sanchez after a pair of pretty passes from Marcelo Diaz and Vidal, prompting Messi to clap on the bench.

“The team is different if Messi is playing or not,” Chile coach Juan Antonio Pizzi said. “Messi’s prob-ably more dangerous than any other soccer player. That’s an advantage we had. But the player who replaced Messi, Gaitan, played well. He has other virtues, other characteristics. He helped them have a better struc-ture and made them a solid team. They were able to take advantage of their opportunity.”

The news about Messi not start-

ing was hardly a surprise g iven the 28-year-old Barcelona star ’s recent back injury. The midfielder practiced on the side during Sunday’s training and not with the full team.

Martino is optimistic Messi might be ready to return for Friday’s match against Panama in Chicago.

“Everything has to do with him being healthy and in good condition to play the next game,” Martino said. “We expect in four days he will be in condition to play. We’re thinking he will recover by then.”(ap)

RIO DE JANEIRO — Brazil football fans are more excited by the country’s young Olym-pic team than with the squad playing now at Copa America Centenario in the United States. One reason is that Barcelona star Neymar will be playing in the Olympics. He’s not in the Copa America.

But the main reason is 19-year-old Gabriel Jesus, a striker at Sao Paulo club Palmeiras, who may wind up being the star in the Olympics as Brazil shoots for its first soccer gold medal. He’s also absent from the Copa.

In the Olympics , where squads are only allowed three players aged over 23, Jesus is expected to play alongside the country’s other upcoming star Gabriel Barbosa — nicknamed

Gabigol — and Neymar.“To play with Neymar at the

Olympics will be another dream come true,” Jesus told The As-sociated Press. “He is a mirror to all of us. If I ever play with him, it would be great for my career. I hope to win gold with him on my

tournament starts on Friday after a new deal was put to the hardline CGT and

other unions.Three days before the championships open, the

CGT, which has separately spearheaded walkouts in other industries against a draft law which would make it easier to hire and fire workers, was under pressure to sign a new agreement on working condi-tions with signs the protest movement was losing momentum.

Guillaume Pepy said the strike had cost the SNCF more than 300 million euros ($341 million) up to now and the draft agreement now with the unions went as far as possible towards meeting demands on matters like shift time and rest periods.

“There’s no reason whatsoever now to continue the strike,” Pepy said, anticipating an end to the strike on Wednesday or Thursday. The CGT said only that it would consult members on Tuesday.

President Francois Hollande, who has refused to give in to strikes in the transport and energy sectors as well as waves of street protests, urged an agreement.

“Nobody is going to understand why a strike should

continue to impinge on a state enterprise’s finances, the smooth running of the Euros and, above all, people’s daily commute to work,” Hollande told a regional newspaper, La Voix du Nord.

The SNCF forecast a “significant improvement” in service on Tuesday as fewer employees heeded the strike call at a time public support for the CGT’s stance fades.

It said two in three TGV high-speed trains would run and four in ten of the slower intercity

trains, more than in recent days. The government intervened last week when it

pressed SNCF management to protect train drivers’ rest times, averting wider backing for the strike. Man-agers had said the concession could make the heavily indebted company uncompetitive when it has to open up to private competition in 2020 under EU rules.

An end to the rail strike would relieve pressure on the government which still faces walkouts in parts of the energy industry over national proposals to loosen rigid labour regulations.

The labour law reform has sparked wave after wave of street protest, marred by fringe violence, over the past three months, but despite widespread public concern over the reform plan, the CGT has been left fighting an increasingly lonely battle.

Pepy said 2,000 rail workers had been working 24 hours a day to repair flood damage on thenetwork despite the strikes and that normal traffic could be restored before the Euro soccer.

“The Euros start on Friday, the SNCF is the of-ficial transporter ... I’ll be at my post on Friday, 100 percent.”(rtr)

MADRID — Spanish prosecutors want Neymar to stand trial for fraud because of alleged irregularities involving his trans-fer to Barcelona three years ago.

Prosecutors said on Tuesday that Ney-mar and his father, who’s also his agent, committed fraud by trying to hide the real amount of his transfer in order to pay a lower commission to the company which

owned part of his rights at the time. They deny any wrongdoing.

Prosecutors also cited Barcelona and its former president Sandro Rosell, as well as the former president of Brazilian club Santos.

Brazilian investment group DIS claims it was financially damaged because Barcelona and Neymar allegedly with-

held the real amount of the player’s transfer fee from Santos in 2013, so it received a smaller compensation than it was entitled to.(ap)

Brazil coach Dunga, who handles both the Copa America and Olympic team, wanted Je-sus for the Copa America, but the youngster didn’t have the documents to travel. He could have replaced Bayern Munich’s Douglas Costa, Brazil’s injured goal-scoring winger.

Brazil played a lackluster 0-0 draw against Ecuador in its opening match in the Copa America, and faces Haiti on Wednesday in its second match in Group B.

That Jesus didn’t have docu-ments to travel is a surprise for a player already drawing inter-est from giants like Juventus and Arsenal and others. But he says he isn’t thinking of moving overseas yet.

“I only want to think about Palmeiras now, they gave me everything and I want to become a reference here,” he said. “But playing in Europe is surely in my plans. I have no prefer-ence for a specific country or a club.”

We b s i t e Tr a n s f e r m a r k t ranked Jesus as one of the top young players in Brazil, valued at 8 million euros. Palmeiras officials have expressed concern about losing their young star as soon as the Olympic Games are finished.

Since January, Jesus has scored 12 goals, including three in the first six rounds of the Brazilian Championship.

The striker has also enhanced his defensive role, according to his Palmeiras coach Alexi Stival, known as Cuca. “He still has a lot to mature, but Gabriel is undoubtedly a gem,” Cuca said.

Two-time world Cup win-ner and three-time FIFA world player of the year Ronaldo also has high hopes for Jesus and Brazil.

“I am betting on two great talents that are still develop-ing but already show a lot of sk i l l : Santos’ Gabigol and Palmeiras’ Gabriel Jesus. And they haven’t even turned 20 yet,” Ronaldo said.(ap)

(rtr)

(rtr)

JAKARTA - One passenger was injured after a Transjakarta feeder bus was reported to have flipped over on one of South Jakartas busiest roads in the Warung Buncit area at 8.30 am on Tuesday.

(ant)

JAKARTA - The expedition ship “Spirit of Majapahit” ar-rived on its fourth stopover in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, on Monday morning local time. Based on a press release received here on Tuesday, the replica ship of Ma-japahit had left the Philippines on June 2, 2016, and it arrived at the Port of Kaohsiung City, Taiwan, on Monday at around 10 a.m. local time.

Since the expedition ship was seen off by Coordinating Min-ister for Maritime Affairs Rizal Ramli on May 1, its arrival in Taiwan was welcomed by Head of the Indonesia Economic and Trade Office to Taiwan (IETO), represented by Director of IETOs Tourism and Transportat ion Agung Sepande and Secretary General of Kaohsiung Citys Mayor Ying-Pin Lin.

The ships arrival was also welcomed by head of Kaohsi-ung Port, Directorate General of Taiwan Immigration Yang, Kuen-Jung, representative of the Coordinating Ministry for Mari-time Affairs T.B. Haeru Rahayu, the people of Kaohsiung city and Indonesian citizens residing in Kaohsiung.

“The expedition once again showcases to the world the past glory of the Indonesian archi-pelago,” Sepande stated while expressing his gratitude for the good condition of the crew on the way to Kaohsiung. Sepande was also grateful for the as-sistance and sound cooperation

extended to welcome the expedi-tion ship.

(ap)

(kmb27)

About 1.4 percent of the handwritten tal-lies collected at polling stations were being disputed and were sent to a special electoral board for review.

Both candidates remained silent while awaiting final results even as their aides began to jockey for positions in an even-tual alliance in congress, where Fujimori’s Popular Force won a solid majority of 73 of 130 seats. Kuczynski’s fledgling movement will have just 18, fewer than the country’s main leftist alliance.

While Kuczynski’s campaign said it is ready to work with all political groups, supporters of Fujimori expressed doubt that the wounds from the final stretch of the campaign, in which Kuczynski accused Keiko Fujimori of being the harbinger of a “narco-state,” could be easily healed.

“They called us drug traffickers, thieves,” said Lourdes Alcorta, a congresswoman. “It’s going to be difficult for us to hug them.”

If Kuczynski holds onto his lead, it would

be a stunning turnaround. Fujimori topped a field of 10 candidates in the first round of voting in April and consistently led Kuczyn-ski in polls taken before Sunday’s runoff.

Kuczynski, 77, managed to climb back by abandoning his above-the-fray, grandfa-therly appeal and attacking his younger rival as a risk to Peru’s young democracy.

Playing on memories of Alberto Fuji-mori’s well-known ties to corruption, or-ganized crime and death squads, for which he’s serving a 25-year prison sentence, he seized on string of scandals that hobbled Fujimori in the final stretch.

The most notable was a report that one of her big fundraisers and the secretary general of her party was the target of a U.S. Drug En-forcement Administration investigation. Peru is the world’s largest producer of cocaine.

PPK, as Kuczynski is almost universally known in Peru, also benefited from a last-minute endorsement by the third-place finisher in the first round of voting, leftist congresswoman Veronika Mendoza, the protagonist of a massive anti-Fujimori demonstration last week the likes of which Peru has not seen since the turbulent end of her father’s rule 16 years ago. DENPASAR - Rising seawa-ter due to high tides is actually a commonplace

on Kuta Beach. However, it is not

as serious as that happened within the past few days. Deputy Chief of Kuta customary village, I Komang Alit Ardana, believed this phenomenon as a warning to people so as not to be greedy for nature following the Benoa Bay reclamation plan wishing to back-

fill the sea up to 700 hectares.“This is a rare phenomenon and

first taking place in Kuta. In the past, the seawater flood was not as serious as this one. Now, the seawater almost reaches the road. It is very, very worrying us,” he

confirmed, Monday (Jun. 6).Alit said that seawater flood has

very much disturbed the activities of community. It primarily disrupt-ed those usually selling or offering services to travelers. No exception to travelers, they are also affected

by this natural disaster. On the other hand, the seawater flood also causes the effort of sand refilling by the central government and the prov-ince in 2008 to turn useless.

LIMA — The nail-biter race for Peru’s presidency tightened Tuesday as the daughter of imprisoned ex-president Alberto Fujimori gained ground on her rival thanks to votes trickling in from remote rural areas and embassies abroad.
