LOS ANGELES - Cinema-goers have a chance to be the hero in new action movie “Hardcore Henry”, with audiences seeing the film through the protagonist’s eyes.

Shot entirely in the first person, viewers look through Henry’s per-spective as he wakes up in a labora-tory run by his wife Estelle remem-bering nothing about who he is.

When the laboratory is broken into and Estelle is kidnapped, Henry and the audience go on a frenzied 90 minutes of first-person action, stunts and gore to get her back.

“It was immensely difficult, ev-erything,” Russian director Ilya Naishuller told Reuters.

“I think the most fun was the script because I got to write from the first person perspective which was pretty

fresh.”The first person perspective is

most prevalent in computer games but Naishuller, who made music videos for his band Biting Elbows with the same filmic perspective, is insistent the movie is not a game adaptation.

“It was made for the cinema-goer in mind, it was a theatrical experience that if you happen to play games you’re going to enjoy it a little bit more,” he said.

“Everything Henry does in the film is done for real.”

“Hardcore Henry”, which has been praised for its technical style, first screened at September’s Toronto film festival and begins its cinema roll out worldwide from April 6. (rtr)

NEW YORK - In her 2008 smash hit “Single Ladies,” Beyonce sang of telling a jealous ex-boyfriend that if he had wanted to commit to their relationship, he should have “put a ring on it.”

Now Beyonce is telling a Texas company selling stuff online bearing the name “Feyonce” to put a lid on it.

Beyonce, one of the world’s most famous and influen-tial pop stars, on Tuesday sued to stop the sale of dozens of shirts, sweaters, tank tops, hoodies and even coffee mugs bearing the “Feyonce” name, which she calls too close to her own trademarked name.

In a complaint filed in Manhattan federal court, Beyonce accused Feyonce Inc and three individuals, all from San Antonio, of “brazenly” selling infringing “Feyonce” merchandise at their website, http://www.feyonceshop.com.

Among the items is a $14.95 mug with the phrase “he put a ring on it,” which Beyonce said was intended to call to mind the lyrics of “Single Ladies.”

Beyonce, 34, who is married to rapper Jay Z and has won Grammy awards as a solo artist and with Destiny’s Child, said the sale of Feyonce knockoffs confuses consumers and causes her irreparable harm, and that the defendants have ignored her requests to stop.

She also said one defendant, Andre Maurice, has gone so far as to file two U.S. trademark applications for “Feyonce,” with and without the accent over the “e.”

“Defendants adopted the Feyonce mark to call to mind Beyonce and her famous song,” the lawsuit said. “Defendants’ conduct described herein is intentional, fraudulent, malicious, willful and wanton.”

Beyonce’s lawsuit also seeks unspecified damages. It is unclear whether the defendants have lawyers.

Maurice, speaking by phone, declined to comment, say-ing he had yet to review the lawsuit.

Beyonce’s law firm, Pryor Cashman, declined further comment.

The case is Knowles-Carter et al v. Maurice et al, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 16-02532. (rtr)

The revelations have raised suspi-cion that such offshore entities were set up to avoid taxes, but Petro Po-roshenko denied that was the purpose in his case. Rather, he said, it was necessary to create an offshore hold-ing company to put his candy busi-ness in a blind trust when he became president of Ukraine in 2014.

“This is absolutely normal pro-cedure, and I think this is the main difference from the naming of all

the political figures in this Panama list,” Poroshenko said in Tokyo, where he was meeting with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and business leaders.

“If we have anything to be in-vestigated, I am happy to do that,” he said. “But, this is absolutely transparent from the very beginning. No hidden account, no associated management, no nothing.”

Reports, based on a trove of con-

fidential documents from Panama-based law firm Mossack Fonseca, have purported to expose the off-shore arrangements of public offi-cials, businesspeople and celebrities around the world.

Iceland’s prime minister became the first casualty of the affair Tues-day, stepping down two days after a video was aired showing him breaking off a television interview over questions about his family’s offshore dealings.

Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson had faced opposition calls to resign over revelations he had used a shell company to shelter large sums while

Iceland’s economy was in crisis. The so-called Panama Papers

Koesnadi revealed that in terms of electricity there is no prob-lem or no electrical short circuits. Besides, it was not found any me-chanical equipment producing heat, no chemicals causing heat and no biochemical process causing heat. “In the sample of ashes we investi-gated is not found to contain fuel,” said Koesnadi.

Related to the case, his institu-tion is only in charge of finding the point of fire source for the crime scene of the Badung Market namely on the first floor, while the cause of fire was not the authority of the forensic laboratory. “We have handed over the minutes of the in-vestigation to the Denpasar Police investigators. It is the Denpasar Police having the authority to reveal the cause of fire,” he said.

While the Spokesman of Bali Police said that to reveal the exact

cause, the criminal investigators are still making investigation. “The crime scene is a free space, so that anyone can get in. Perhaps there is someone there disposing of cigarette butts or fire of incense,” said Hery.

According to Hery, the investiga-tors are still investigating whether it was on fire, burned or happened due to negligence. “Later on, the in-vestigators will conclude. However, on the first floor there are merchants selling palm oil and merchandise was covered in tarp. If gas cylinder was found at the location, it remains in a good condition, so that it is not the cause,” said Hery.

Chief of Denpasar Police Crimi-nal Investigation Unit, Reinhard, when asked for his confirmation, his institution has not received yet the results of the investiga-tion report from central forensic laboratory.

“Probably it is still on the desk of Chief of Denpasar Police. I’ll check it first,” he said. As reported

previously, a great fire occurred in the Badung Market on Jalan Gajah Mada, Denpasar, Monday (Feb. 29). The flames flared up from the first to fourth floor. Dozens of fire trucks from Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, Bangli, Klungkung and Tabanan were deployed to extin-guish the fire.

From testimony of witnesses, the fire happened about 18:15. Wayan Iswadi, an employee of PD Pasar Badung, told police officer that the fire was first seen on the first floor. He tried to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher but did not succeed.

Badung Market has four floors where the first floor at front section is intended for the merchants of canang (oblation), fruits, flowers, vegetables and cakes. The middle and back section is intended for merchants of poultry, eggs and meat.

Then, the second floor is intend-ed for merchants of food, rice and others, while third floor at front and

middle section is for drapers, pray-ing garments and the back section for food merchants. Fourth floor is specially intended for management office of the PD Pasar Denpasar. It is equipped with ballroom, lim-ited meeting, private secretary, president director, first and second

president director, general affairs, accounting, engineering, supervi-sion, sanitation and landscaping, cooperatives, reproductive health services belonging to the Rama Ses-ana Foundation (YRS), chief unit of Badung Market, Dharma Wanita Persatuan and toilet. (kmb36)

ManGUPURa — implementation of the circular of the Minister of environment and Forests no.s.71/Men LhK-ii/2015 that requires consumers to have to start paying for plastic bags may be considered a burden to consumers in Badung, where the regula-tion is being applied. a number of stores are charging idR 200 per plastic bag but only for smaller 15 “and 21”sized bags. 28” bags for instance cost idR 250,and 35” bags cost idR 500 per bag,. it now costs idR 1,000 for small go-green plastic and idR 1,990 for large go-green plastic. Retailer are also setting different prices for small go-green cloth bags (idR 9,890) and larger go-green cloth bags for idR 10,990. The policy of charging idR 200 per plastic bag only applies to 15” and 21” plastic bags.

Head of the Badung Industry, Cooperatives and SMEs Agency, I Ketut Karpiana, when contacted on Tuesday (Apr. 5) stated that his agency cannot regulate the amount that consumers are being charged due to the absence of a relevant regulation.

“Indeed, there has been no provision about the price, but we are required to assure that all merchants start charging their customers for plastic bags”, he said.

Karpiana said that charging different amounts for different types of bags should not be a problem “Go-green bags may cost more but they are made of eco-friendly plastic and many people prefer them because they can be used more than once” he said.

So far most traditional markets are not using go-green plas-tic bags. Consumers should not be burden by a higher charge for common plastic bags that are made of go-green plastic. If possible merchants should not be charging more as it is an un-necessary burden on consumers”, added Karpiana.

The benefits of the ‘paid plastic policy’, said Karpiana, have already begun to be felt. People are starting to save money by bringing their own bags from home. “Moreover, if the price is raised, they (consumers—Ed) will certainly start bringing their own shopping bag, so as not to be burdened by the additional charge for a plastic bag” he said. In one of the largest studies to date of diabetes trends, the re-searchers said ageing populations and rising levels of obesity across the world mean diabetes is becom-ing “a defining issue for global public health”.

Type 2 diabetes is a long-term condition characterized by insulin resistance. Patients can manage their diabetes with medication and diet, but the disease is often life-long and is a major cause of blind-ness, kidney failure, heart attacks, stroke and lower limb amputation.

“Obesity is the most important risk factor for type 2 diabetes and our attempts to control rising rates of obesity have so far not proved successful,” said Majid Ezzati, a professor at Imperial College Lon-don who led the WHO research.

Published in The Lancet journal ahead of the United Nations World

Health Day on April 7, the study used data from 4.4 million adults in different world regions to estimate age-adjusted diabetes prevalence for 200 countries.

It found that between 1980 and 2014, diabetes has become more com-mon among men than women, and rates of diabetes rose significantly in many low and middle income coun-tries, including China, India, Indone-sia, Pakistan, Egypt and Mexico.

Margaret Chan, the WHO’s director-general, said the findings showed an urgent need to ad-dress unhealthy diets and lifetsyles around the world.

“If we are to make any headway in halting the rise in diabetes, we need to rethink our daily lives: to eat healthily, be physically active, and avoid excessive weight gain,” she said in a statement from the WHO’s Geneva headquarters.

“Even in the poorest settings, governments must ensure that peo-ple are able to make these healthy choices and that health systems are able to diagnose and treat people with diabetes.”

The study found that northwest-ern Europe has the lowest rates of diabetes among women and men, with age-adjusted prevalence lower than 4 percent among women and at around 5 to 6 percent among men in Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands.

No country saw any meaningful decrease in diabetes prevalence, it found.

The largest increases in diabetes rates were in Pacific island nations, followed by the Middle East and North Africa, in countries like Egypt, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

The data also showed that half of adults with diabetes in 2014 lived in five countries - China, India, the United States Brazil and Indonesia. Rates more than doubled for men in India and China between 1980 and 2014. (rtr)

CHICAGO - Top Zika investiga-tors now believe that the birth defect microcephaly and the paralyzing Guillain-Barre syndrome may be just the most obvious maladies caused by the mosquito-borne virus.

Fueling that suspicion are recent discoveries of serious brain and spinal cord infections - including encephalitis, meningitis and myeli-tis - in people exposed to Zika.

Evidence that Zika’s damage may be more varied and widespread than initially believed adds pressure on affected countries to control mosquitoes and prepare to provide intensive - and, in some cases, lifelong - care to more patients. The newly suspected disorders can cause paralysis and permanent disability - a clinical outlook that adds urgency to vaccine develop-ment efforts.

Scientists are of two minds about why these new maladies have come into view. The first is that, as the virus is spreading through such large populations, it is revealing aspects of Zika that went unno-ticed in earlier outbreaks in remote and sparsely populated areas. The second is that the newly detected disorders are more evidence that the virus has evolved.

“What we’re seeing are the con-sequences of this virus turning from the African strain to a pandemic strain,” said Dr. Peter Hotez, dean of the National School of Tropi-cal Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine.

The Zika outbreak was first detected in Brazil last year and is spreading through the Americas. It has been linked to thousands of suspected cases of microcephaly, a typically rare birth defect marked by unusually small head size, signaling a problem with brain development. Evidence linking Zika to microcephaly prompted the World Health Organization to declare a global health emergency

in February. The suspicion that Zika acts

directly on nerve cells began with autopsies on aborted and stillborn fetuses showing the virus replicat-ing in brain tissues. In addition to microcephaly, researchers reported finding other abnormalities linked with Zika including fetal deaths, placental insufficiency, fetal growth retardation and injury to the central nervous system.

Doctors also are worried that Zika exposure in utero may have hidden effects, such as behavioral problems or learning disabilities, that are not apparent at birth.

“If you have a virus that is toxic enough to produce microcephaly in someone, you could be sure that it will produce a whole series of conditions that we haven’t even begun to understand,” said Dr. Al-berto de la Vega, an obstetrician at San Juan’s University Hospital in Puerto Rico.

First discovered in the Zika for-est of Uganda in 1947, the virus circulated quietly in Africa and Asia, causing rare infections and producing mild symptoms. A 2013 outbreak in French Polynesia, the largest at that time, led researchers to make the Guillain-Barre link. Other neurological effects were noted but scientists made little of them at the time.

A rare and poorly understood condition, Guillain-Barre can weak-en muscles and cause temporary paralysis, often requiring patients to need respirators to breathe.

An estimated 32,000 people in the French Polynesia Zika outbreak were infected, and 42 patients were confirmed to have Guillain-Barre, a 20-fold increase in incidence over the previous four years, the WHO reported. Another 32 patients had other neurological disorders, including encephalitis, meningo-encephalitis, myelitis and facial paralysis. (rtr)

Diabetes cases reach 422 million

as poorer countries see steep rises

LONDON - The number of adults with diabetes has qua-drupled worldwide in under four decades to 422 million, and the condition is fast becoming a major problem in poorer countries, a World Health Organization study showed on Wednesday.

A detail of a can of Coca-Cola is seen in London, Britain March 16, 2016. Britain will introduce a sugar levy on soft drinks in two years’ time to tackle a growing obesity crisis, finance min-ister George Osborne said in a surprise announcement on Wednesday, hitting share prices in drinks and sugar firms.

SEMARAPURA - Umbrella used at temples becomes traditional handicrafts at Kamasan village, Klungkung. This umbrella craft has been carried out to the second generation having been commenced since 1997. Other than umbrellas, craftsmen at Kamasan village have also produced ider-ider or shrine ornament since 2006.

An umbrella craftsman, I Gusti Agung Vivekananda, said that the demand for umbrella tends to increase, especially on religious feasts in Bali. Marketing of this um-brella craft product has penetrated into large and small merchants throughout Bali. Most buyers come to take their own order, while some others are sent directly to the

merchants.Umbrella production is tailored to

customer order because the market demand is often erratic. According to him, on normal days, he can sell around three to ten pieces per day. “Usually before the feast of Hindu, the demand increases up to 50 percent, primarily for retail order. Market demand uncertainty has caused capital stagnancy and empty raw material supply when the orders are booming,” he explained.

To meet booming market de-mand, Gusti Agung admitted to have not enough capital so that he must borrow from a bank. In addition, constraints also happen when his raw material stock such as fabric, yarn, wood and bamboo

is empty. He sells his umbrella product for IDR 125,000 to IDR 1 million each.

Of the selling price, he esti-mated the monthly turnover of his products reaches IDR 15 million. Favorite umbrella is the standard one with the height of three meters using satin fabric. In harmony with his business development, he hoped the government can provide full support to his business growth.

“As one of the craftsmen in Klungkung, I really hope to get the support from the government so that my business grows even more and can absorb more labor, espe-cially the people having no job so that they could be accommodated and trained here,” he said. (dwa)

SINGARAJA - Banners and billboards of the prospective candidates of the Buleleng regent and deputy regent have spread. Those banners and billboards contain the desire to change Buleleng into more advanced and prosperous region along with the image of the candidates ahead of the regent election in February 2017.

For instance, there are banners of independent prospective candidates like Dewa Nyoman Sukrawan from Bungkulan village, Sawan, and I Gusti Ketut Adi Yustika Aryawan from Pengastulan village, Seririt. The other banners and billboards with tagline Shanti Bali emerged from prospective candidate Ketut Rochineng from Patemon village, Seririt.

In the meantime, in everyday life the candidate PAS-Sutjidra remains to concentrate on the government affairs. This incum-bent candidate occupying the position as the regent and deputy regent, previously had mingled with people to enliven the 412th anniversary of Singaraja by fun walk around the town of Singa-raja, Sunday (Apr. 3). T-shirt of Regent Putu Agus Suradnyana (PAS) was also distributed. Some pieces are in red color, while some others in white with tagline saying PASS di Hati or literally means ‘Putu Agus Suradnyana-Sutjidra in the heart.’

Electability of the PDI-P political party in the Panji Sakti Region is estimated to be strong enough to compete. Militant cadres of political parties began to look for candidates that will possibly win.

Nevertheless, a political analyst from the University of Udayana, Dr. I Gusti Putu Bagus Suka Arjawa, assessed the period of time for the installation of billboards and banners from the election of Buleleng regent in February 2017 is still considered far enough.

Which is more relevant, the installation of printed banners or social media campaign? He observes that social media is more compatible in the era of information technology nowadays. “In terms of time, it is not allowed to campaign through billboards or banners. If in the past, the candidates already vied to install banners, while today media social is more meaningful and no jealousy emerges among the candidates,” said Suka Arjawa, when confirmed via his cellular phone, Monday (Apr. 4).

This dean and lecturer at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at the Udayana University explained that the function of social media for the prospective candidate is considered to be able to draw them closer to their people. In social media, the prospective candidate can write messages as much as possible they desire. “So, it will not litter the streets, and the prospective candidate can have a more personal relationship. People can be more touched when their comments are given feedback. It is better to use social media, while campaign tools at roadside can create inconvenient scenery,” he added.

In the past election of Buleleng regent (2012), social media like Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp, BBM, Line and email have not been heavily maximized by the winning team. Today, the information technology has changed the bulkhead between the leaders and people. Suka Arjawa considered that younger gen-eration becomes an asset that is easier to be influenced through social media, especially in a series of the elections.

“Young generation is even more familiar with social media. Thus, it is certainly easier to be influenced by political views. Young people can be given information regarding politics because they have not owned a lot of experience in politics,” he said.

In the meantime, the incumbent and independent prospec-tive candidates as players with a long political experience in Buleleng must be more sensitive and can take advantage of the information technology. Suka Arjawa considered them to have longer political experience and it is time to make self-improvement.

“Necessarily, they must be more sensitive because they have more experiences in politics. The candidates can have sharper political understanding and should be able to take advantage of social media. If only installing banners and billboards while riding cars and motorcycles, not many people will see and pay attention to it more clearly,” he added. (kmb34)

Salim’s courage is based on the gap that he sees between the eco-nomic conditions of people in South Bali and the people of Luwus. He wants to even the playing field. “I was also inspired by Cok Ajik Krisna call to build up Singaraja. I was en-couraged to develop the north of the island, so I moved to that region” he said from Secret Garden Village on Monday,April 4th.

Actually, the investment will take much longer to build and show a return, but to Salim it is a matter of satisfaction. Satisfactoin does not just

come from economic prosperity but also from feeling that one is contrib-uting to society, he said. “If we can be useful to society at large, we will find life more meaningful” he said.

For instance, the area of Luwus is dark at night, with little to no activities. As an entrepreneur Salim feels that he must have the courage to think up ways to liven up the area by creating attractions, bringing light and fire and perhaps starting a nightlife for domestic and tourists that want to see something new. “It is a personal challenge”, he said.

For the last 10 years, Salim has aspired to develop the concept of educational tourism, because in several countries that he has visited in Africa, this is successfully. “So, why shouldn’t I devote myself to my own nation, particularly Bali as the window from which the in-ternational community sees us, and educate” said Salim who has been a businessman for some 30 years.

Secret Garden Village seeks to educate youngsters about their own culture and about nature so that these inheritances are not forgot-ten. “I offer this place to them to keep and pass on. By ‘going back to nature’ the idea is that at the very least what was good in the past can remain good into the future” he said. (kmb42)

AMSTERDAM - Dutch voters cast ballots in a national referendum on Wednesday on the European Union’s treaty with Ukraine, pro-viding a gauge of anti-EU sentiment weeks before Britain puts its mem-bership of the bloc on the line.

Launched by eurosceptic groups, the referendum -- whose result is not binding on the government -- is the first since a 2015 law made it possible to force through plebiscites by gathering 300,000 signatures on the Internet.

While the scope of a ballot ex-pected to deliver a “No” vote is lim-ited to a treaty to bring Ukraine and the EU closer, Prime Minister Mark Rutte acknowledged on Wednesday that some viewed it as a proxy for a broader debate on the way the bloc is being run.

“It’s not about accession to the European Union, as some of the ‘against’ voters are saying,” he told

journalists after casting his vote.“It’s not about collective de-

fence, it is not about new money, it’s not about free movement of employees.”

On the opposite side was the populist, eurosceptic leader Geert Wilders, who called on voters to use the opportunity to send a message of protest to Europe’s leaders by saying “No”.

“I think many Dutchmen are fed up with more European Union and this treaty with Ukraine that is... not in the interests of the Dutch people,” he told journalists.

“I hope that later, both in the United Kingdom and elsewhere in Europe, other countries will follow.”

Whatever voters’ motivation, a clear vote against the treaty in the run-up to Britain’s June 23 referendum on whether to quit the EU could escalate into a domestic

or even a Europe-wide political crisis.

Dutch leaders say voting against the treaty would also hand a sym-bolic victory to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine are widely accused of bringing down an airliner in 2014 with the loss of almost 200 Dutch lives.

It is unclear if that will sway voters nearly two years on, but increasing resentment among the Dutch at the consequences of the EU’s open-border policies has propelled Wilders -- who openly opposes Muslim immigration -- to the top of public opinion polls.

The ballot also taps in to a more deep-seated anti-establishment sentiment highlighted by a resound-ing rejection in 2005 of a European Union constitution, also in a refer-endum. (rtr)

BEIRUT - The Syrian army and its allies launched a big attack overnight on insurgents south of Aleppo, described as the fiercest government assault in the area since a cessation of hostilities agreement came into effect in February.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British-based organisation that tracks the war, said air strikes, artillery and rockets were being used in an attack aimed at recovering the town of Telat al-Eis, captured by rebels in recent days.

The al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front shot down a Syrian warplane in the area on Tuesday, capturing its pilot.

A statement from the Syrian army and its allies said they had started to target the positions of armed groups in areas south of Aleppo, supported by “heavy and concentrated air strikes”, the website of the Hezbollah-controlled al-Manar reported.

The statement said the attack was a response to insurgent violations of the cessation of hostilities agreement.

A rebel said it was the heaviest attack in the south Aleppo area since the start of the cessation of hostilities deal agreed by Russia and the United States. Hany al-Khaled of the Sham Revolutionary Brigades group, an affiliate of the Levant Front, said the attack had been repelled and Shi’ite militias fighting with the gov-ernment had suffered heavy losses.

The Observatory said government forces had made progress but had not been able to recapture Telat al-Eis. (rtr)

DENPASAR - An ATM fraud syndicate member from Bulgaria, Yanko Ivanov, 39, was arrested when taking action at the ATM BNI at Hardy’s, Nusa Dua, Sunday (Mar. 27). The suspect Yanko was caught installing a data storage device at the ATM. Allegedly the suspect working as a builder did not work alone.

“This suspect belongs to Bulgar-ian syndicate. We are still pursuing their friends. It targets to steal customers’ bank data, ATM PIN and then they are used to drain money,” said Chief of Denpasar Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Reinhard, Tuesday (Apr. 5).

He is confident if the suspect belongs to syndicate of Bulgaria because based on information last year, a team of Criminal Investi-gation from the National Police Headquarters arrested two Bulgar-ian citizens with the same mode in the ATM of Seminyak area. “Both culprits have been detained at Ker-obokan Prison. We think this sus-pect (Yanko—Ed) has something to do with them,” he said.

Reinhard revealed on Saturday (Mar. 26) that the case disclosure was based on information of the employee of the BNI Regional Of-fice Denpasar to the leadership if the crime scene was installed with

storage device.Responding to the incident, on

Sunday (Mar. 27) I Komang Ad-nyana, 28, was ordered to conduct reconnaissance at the ATM. Around 20:00 Adnyana suspected the pres-ence of stranger at the ATM because it was replacing keypad canopy containing storage device. When looking into the ATM, he saw the keypad canopy has been replaced and there was a trace of cutter on the canopy and position of the keypad canopy did not correspond to the original one. Assisted by lo-cal resident, Adnyana arrested the foreigner which is no other than Yanko and immediately handed over to police station.

According to Reinhard, the evidences secured included a router with cable, a keypad canopy of ATM machine suspected to be a storage device, an iPhone, two Visa cards, a plain keypad, striped waist bag, passport and wallet containing dollar, euro and rupiah banknotes.

“There are two important de-vices used as a means to steal namely a router and touchpad cover with camera as well as USB used to steal customers’ ATM PIN data. The router is used to steal custom-ers’ data via Wi-Fi. Their action is quite professional,” said Reinhard. (kmb36)

Coordinator of ForBali’s Tech-nical Division, Nyoman Mardika, explained on Tuesday (Apr. 5) that the idea is to protect the decision of the Central PHDI bhisama regula-tion No.11/Kep / I/Phdip/1994 on temple sanctity as well as to oversee and enforce various spatial laws governing sacred areas. To follow this up, ForBali has pioneered a comprehensive effort to form a research team to look into the mat-ter of the sanctity of Benoa Bay. With the help of ancient manuscript expert Sugi Lanus and panalogi-cal activist students, the team has been collecting data. “The ForBali research team are the only ones conducting indepth research on the matter”, said Mardika.

They conducted research in the area of Benao Bay for six months with the help of resource people that

included the supporting devotees (pengempon) and priests of the sacred points of the area as well as other stakeholders in the area of Benoa Bay. The research team ascertained 70 points in the area of Benoa Bay that qualify as sacred – 10 more points than the original study that only counted 60. The sacred point includes: 31 temples, 19 estuaries, 19 tidal area mounds (muntig) and one type of seaweed. “We have reported the results of our research to the public through dis-cussions and to the sabha walaka as guidelines for the assessment of the reclamation of the bay” he said.

Several other institutions have also used the results of this research and disseminated it to focus groups and conducted public discussions of their own. “Until now, I have do not know of any other research

team that has conducted field re-search related to the sacredness of Benao Bay, apart from the ForBAli team, but the environmental aspects may have been researched” he ex-plained. Mardika expects that the results of this research can be used as a reference in the sabha walaka meeting to determine the sacred areas of Benoa Bay.

Anom Sanjaya, the field research team leader, explained that based on the research conducted by Sugi Lanus, the area of Benoa Bay is included in part of the pilgrimage of Dang Hyang Nirartha. Fieldworkers obtained data to back this up based on resource persons in the area such as priests, temple supporting devotees and fishermen.

“The reason that 10 more sacred points were added, is because our research is based on open field observations. For example, when we looked for resource people amongst the supporting devotees of Campuhan Sari temple, the temple priest told us that there was another temple nearby and then we went to find it. So our research is really open” he explained. (kmb42)

ForBali has been encouraging the bhisama (regulation) of the Hindu Dharma Council of Indo-nesia (PHDI) to be applied to the sacred areas of Benoa Bay ever since the project was first proposed.

DENPASAR - The protection of sacred area has been set out in various regulations such as Bali Regional Bylaw (Perda) No.16/2009, Badung Regional Bylaw No.26/2013; and Presi-dential Regulation No.45/2011. Therefore, ForBali has been encouraging the bhisama (regulation) of the Hindu Dharma Council of Indonesia (PHDI) to be applied to the sacred areas of Benoa Bay ever since the project was first proposed.

“The current situation in the region is driven by the desire to control the sources of essential commodities, such as energy, food, and water,” Mahfudz noted at the Forum for Foreign Policy Stud-ies organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs here on Tuesday (Apr. 5).

According to Mahfudz, the three sources of livelihood are found in abundance in the Asian and Afri-can regions, especially in nations located close to the equator. “The ownership and control over the sources of livelihood highlight the important role and influence that Asian and African countries have as the main suppliers of basic needs of the people in other regions,” he remarked.

But, on the other hand, Mahfudz added, the countries of Asia and Africa also have the potential to become the centers of conflict of interest in the race to master the sources of livelihood in the region. Mahfudz said the projection would take into account the common inter-ests of the two continents.

“The first area of interest is to es-tablish cooperation for the develop-

ment of these resources to meet the national interests of each country, as well as to supply energy, food, and water to the global community. The second is how to preserve the sovereignty of each country,” he affirmed.

He explained that Indonesia was one of the 13 countries located on the equator, thereby making it a na-tion with abundant resources.

“Accordingly, Indonesia has an important role in meeting the com-mon interests of Asia and Africa to develop and supply the basic needs in the region and the world. How-ever, the national interests must always be our priority,” Mahfudz remarked. The relations between Asian and African countries have become closely interwoven fol-lowing the implementation of the Asian-African Conference in Bandung in 1955.

The relations between the two continents have increasingly strengthened through various coop-eration mechanisms, one of which is the New Asian African Strategic Partnership (NAASP) that was initiated during the Asian-African Summit 2005 in Jakarta.(ant)

JAKARTA - The Indonesian government has issued a travel warning to its citizens willing to visit Yemen.

The warning, issued in view of the security conditions in that country, was published on the In-donesian Foreign Ministrys official website on Tuesday.

According to the website, the Indonesian government called on the countrys citizens not to travel to Yemen till security situation there is restored or becomes conducive for such travel.

The Indonesian Embassy in Sanaa informed that the security conditions prevailing now in Ye-men were not yet conducive for visitors.

“Since the outbreak of war in 2015, the security conditions in Yemen remain highly risky. Armed conflicts among various warring factions still take place,” the em-bassy said in a statement.

Indonesian citizens intending to go to Yemen are requested to reconsider their plans and tempo-rarily postpone such travel. Those who nevertheless decide to go to Yemen are required to get all the needed information with regard to the security conditions in the area they plan to visit in that country.

Indonesian citizens still staying in Yemen and requiring information are requested to contact the Embas-sys hotline at +9671427210 or fax +9671427212.(ant)

JAKARTA - The Indonesian police confirmed here, Tuesday, that Siyono was not a victim of wrong-ful arrest as its anti-terror squad (Densus 88) had credible evidence to take him into custody, a police spokesperson stated.

“Thus, Densus 88 did not con-duct a wrongful arrest as the anti-terror personnel had credible evi-dence against Siyono,” the police spokesman Inspector General An-ton Charliyan remarked.

Siyono, arrested by the personnel of Densus 88 on March 9, 2016, was allegedly believed to be the leader of Jamaah Islamiyah in Klaten, Central Java, and was suspected of involve-ment in unlawful activities.

Charliyan noted that Siyono, who died in the custody of Densus

88, was captured following the arrests of nine people over allega-tions of being members of Jamaah Islamiyah in May 2014. The police also arrested three other suspects identified as AW alias TG, BR, and DN. “These three suspects, particu-larly AW, confessed that Siyono had a weapon,” he revealed.

The Densus 88 personnel then raided the hideout of Siyono. How-ever, he died in the custody of the counterterrorism unit.

Siyonos family members, in-cluding his wife Suratmi, have been demanding justice following his custodial death.

In connection with Siyonos case, Indonesian Police Chief Gen-eral Badrodin Haiti would likely be summoned by the House of

Representatives (DPRs) Commis-sion III overseeing legal affairs, a senior legislator, Desmond Junaidi Mahesa, stated.

Mahesa, deputy speaker of DPRs Commission III, said the Houses working committee on law en-forcement would not only discuss the Siyoso case but also cover the budget for Densus 88.

He said, at the Houses previous hearing with Police Chief General Haiti, one of the topics discussed was related to a request for allocating ad-ditional budget for Densus 88.

Three years before the latest Siyono case, The Guardian, an in-fluential publication in the United Kingdom, had exposed the violent acts of Densus 88 against suspected terrorists.(ant)

Indexes will make glum reading for European Central Bank policymak-ers, coming just weeks after they unleashed a bold easing package in their latest attempt to spur growth and inflation in the currency bloc.

So far there is scant evidence the stimulus has had much effect and they will be particularly concerned by survey evidence showing companies cut prices again last month.

“It really dents hopes that the weakness we saw in January and February is just related to temporary concerns about the global economy. There is something more fundamental going on,” said Jennifer McKeown at Capital Economics.

“Without ECB stimulus I suspect that things would have been a lot worse but it certainly is evidence that we are still in a deflationary environ-ment in the euro zone. There is a real risk going forward that households start to put off purchases.”

The ECB targets inflation just be-low 2 percent, but flash data showed last week it was -0.1 percent in March. Producer prices fell more than expected in February and the pace of their monthly decline increased, excluding volatile energy prices.

There are few signs the latest round of stimulus has had much im-pact on growth either. Markit’s final composite PMI for the bloc, seen as

a good guide to growth, barely im-proved on February’s 13-month low of 53.0, nudging up to 53.1.

That was above the 50-mark that divides growth from contraction but down from an earlier flash estimate of 53.7, pointing to first quarter growth of 0.3 percent, Markit said, weaker than the 0.4 percent prediction in a March Reuters poll.

Across the channel in Britain, which doesn’t use the euro, its PMI recovered only slightly last month after reaching its lowest in nearly three years in February. Markit said the reading pointed to first quarter growth of 0.4 percent, in line with the latest Reuters poll, but below the 0.6 percent growth recorded in the previous three months.

“Investment is starting to take a pause for breath while everyone waits for the referendum to come and go,” said Alan Clarke at Sco-tiabank.

Britain will hold a referendum on whether to leave the EU on June 23. A poll of businesses on Monday showed the possibility of a vote in favour of leaving was causing companies to put investment plans on hold.

Investors are also concerned about a hard landing in China, which would send shockwaves around the world. Analysts still suspect more govern-ment support will be needed from Beijing.

International Monetary Fund Managing Director Christine Lagarde on Tuesday turned up the volume on her calls for stronger action by the world’s economies to boost growth, warning downside risks were increas-ing without decisive action.

DOWNS AND UPSPrice-cutting failed to stem a

slide in the PMI for the euro zone’s dominant service industries. It fell to a 14-month low of 53.1 from 53.3, a steep decline from the flash 54.0

estimate.New business growth also decel-

erated, and the sub-index fell to a 14-month low of 52.7 from Febru-ary’s 53.4.

France’s composite PMI, which includes both services and manu-facturing, only rose to the breakeven 50 mark while Germany’s suggested the slowest pace of growth in eight months in March.

The fall in the German index comes after official data earlier on Tuesday showed industrial orders

unexpectedly dropped 1.2 percent in February due to weaker foreign demand. They had been expected to rise 0.2 percent.

“Today’s weak new-order read-ing to some extent exaggerates the actual situation in the manufacturing industry,” said Thomas Strobel at UniCredit.

“However, sluggish global trade, in particular due to low economic activity in China and emerging Asian markets, poses downside risks to Ger-man exporters.”(rtr)

MOSCOW — The World Bank has cut its growth forecasts for the Russian economy, predict-ing it will contract 1.9 percent

this year due to low oil prices and international sanctions, and warns of a rise in poverty.

The prediction is significantly worse than the World Bank’s last estimate of a 0.7 percent contrac-tion, made in December, and the IMF’s prediction in January of a 1 percent contraction.

The World Bank’s chief econ-omist for Russia, Birgit Hansl,

praised the Russian Central Bank for limiting inflation but warned of continuing pressure on gov-ernment finances.

After the Russian statistical service said last month that 2015 had seen 3.1 million more Rus-sians officially living in poverty, the World Bank said it expected this trend to continue, putting pov-erty back to 2007 levels.(ap)

Sigmundur David Gunnlaugsson exited on Tuesday after leaked docu-ments from a Panamanian law firm showed his wife owned millions of dollars worth of previously undis-closed shares in a company that held debt from failed Icelandic banks.

Picking a new prime minister could allow the ruling coalition to remain in power, but the opposition is trying to force a new election with a vote of no confidence in the government, which could lead to a radical political shift.

Polls show the anti-establish-ment Pirate Party in the lead if a new election is called in the country of 330,000 people, a result with potentially wider impact across

Europe where mainstream political parties are fending off populists from both the left and right.

The Panama documents revealed that Gunnlaugsson’s wife owned a previously undisclosed firm with claims on the island’s collapsed banks. His opponents say that rep-resents a conflict of interest because the government is playing a central role in negotiating the value of such claims.

More than 10,000 people showed up earlier in the week to demand Gunnlaugsson’s resignation, al-though protests dwindled late on Tuesday.

Iceland has struggled to recover from the 2008 collapse of its highly

indebted banks, which led to popu-lar protests, the fall of a government and the jailing of many bankers.

The ruling Progressive Party’s deputy leader, Sigurdur Ingi Jo-hannsson, said on Tuesday his party had proposed to its junior coalition partner, the Independence Party, that he become the new prime minister. That requires a formal decision by the government, which was expected to meet later on Wednesday.

However, there were signs that a transition would not be smooth. A statement emailed on Tuesday night by government spokesman Sigurdur Jonsson said Gunnlaugs-son had suggested that Johannsson take over as prime minister “for an unspecified amount of time”.

“The prime minister has not re-signed and will continue to serve as chairman of the Progressive Party,” it said. (rtr)

MILWAUKEE - Republican Ted Cruz scored a decisive victory over Donald Trump in Wisconsin, giving him momentum at a crucial time and putting pressure on the front-running Trump to show he can absorb the shock and bounce back in upcoming primary states.

Cruz, a U.S. senator from Texas, dominated the vote in Wisconsin on Tuesday, a sign that he is increas-ingly viewed as the main Trump al-ternative by those Republicans who cannot bring themselves to support the billionaire. His win increased the chances of a rare contested party convention in July.

“What an incredible victory tonight,” Cruz said in his victory speech in Milwaukee, joined by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker, a former rival who had endorsed him. “Tonight is a turning point. It is a rallying cry.”

Cruz’s victory injected fresh en-ergy into what had been a flagging anti-Trump movement and showed that Trump has work to do to repair damage he brought to his campaign with remarks about abortion that hurt him with Republican women voters.

On the Democratic side, U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont easily defeated front-runner Hil-lary Clinton in Wisconsin, adding

to Clinton’s frustration that she has not been able to put away her rival and march to the Democratic presidential nomination.

But despite winning six of the last seven states, Sanders still faces a difficult task to overtake Clinton as the presidential nominating race moves to New York on April 19 and to five other Eastern states on April 26. Still, his victory was another sign that a sizable group of Demo-crats are not sold on the viability of Clinton’s candidacy.

For Trump, the pressure is on to respond with some decisive victories in upcoming states to show he is still on the way to assembling the 1,237 delegates needed for the Republican presi-dential nomination.

Trump was heading to favor-able turf in the Northeast and was already predicting victory in New York. It is now critical that he do well in these states.

“It’s very important for Trump to bounce back strong. The sense of his inevitability is one of his strengths,” said David Yepsen, director of the Paul Simon Public Policy Center at Southern Illinois University.

“If he looks weak, others will pile on and some may be tempted to leave him.” (rtr)

UBUD - Puri Saren Ubud or more popular name as a Bali Ubud Royal Palace is an Ubud Kingdom Palace with beautiful Balinese traditional houses as a residence of Ubud King. It is set in the center of Ubud Bali with traditional art market just in front of it and it is found by Ida Tjokorda Putu Kandel who has commanded from year 1800 - 1823. Ubud Royal Palace is an artistic cultural life center, while the traditional market is the symbol of local economics resident. The existence of Ubud Royal Palace as a palace is equipped by a Wantilan/

auditorium that is a large building of meeting room and a banyan tree as shelter place at the daytime. The traditional market is the place of society economics and its existence is always border on palace as artistic cultural life center. It means that the both pole meeting is describ-ing the dynamics of society and kingdom life.

The history of Bali’s royal rul-ing families goes as far back as the 10th century but it wasn’t until the 1300’s that they became historically renown. In 1343, the Majapahit Em-pire took hold after the Javanese king

defeated the Balinese king. Their rule marked the arrival of Javanese Hindu culture, which is still evident today in architecture, the arts, litera-ture, dance and the theatre.

A few Balinese villages remained aloof from this change, however, with the rise of Islam across Indo-nesia, the Majapahit Empire finally fell and Bali became independent at the end of the 15th century. Many of the Javanese aristocracy and key members of the creative society took refuge on the island and the period became known as Bali’s Golden Age. (IBP/net)

CLEVELAND - LeBron James and Stephen Curry grabbed the top spots on the Horrow Sports/MVPindex Power 100 as the NBA dominated the rankings released on Tuesday with 24 players on the list that evaluates an athlete’s brand and marketability.

It marked the third consecutive year that James, who plays for the Cleveland Cavaliers, topped the list while Curry, who led the Golden State Warriors to an NBA title last year, shot into second place from 45th.

World number one tennis players Novak Djokovic and Serena Wil-liams and former NBA Most Valu-able Player Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunder rounded out the top five.

“Steph Curry made the biggest jump on and off the court of any athlete we’ve seen, frankly in any statistical analysis,” said Rick Horrow, owner of Horrow Sports Ventures.

“When you look at the count, 24 of the 100 (athletes) are basketball players and seven are in the top 25, including one and two. So you have the opportunity to rise to the top of the list if you are a star basketball player.”

The concept for the list was cre-ated in 2009. MVPindex joined last

year to provide a social media com-ponent. On-field results comprise 50 percent of athletes power rank-ing while the other half is based on off-field attributes: primarily social media presence (including reach, engagement, and conversation).

The list focuses on long-estab-lished sports and the U.S. market specifically with 44 of the 100 spots taken by NFL and NBA players.

Boxers and mixed martial arts fighters are included in the list while soccer players are omitted as Hor-row said it is impossible to get a fair on-field ranking for them because of overlapping international federa-tions and national teams.

Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane, was the best-ranked National Hockey League player at number six despite a difficult year that saw him under investigation by police on rape charges that were later dropped.

NFL players occupied the next two spots with Pittsburgh Steelers receiver Antonio Brown at number seven followed by Carolina Pan-thers quarterback Cam Newton.

Former world number on golfer Rory McIlroy and James Harden of the NBA’s Houston Rockets closed out the top 10.

The most noticeable trend on the latest list was a strong move by the

NBA into the top 10 combined by a drop-off in NFL players considering quarterbacks had occupied five of the top 11 spots in last year’s list.

Tiger Woods, once a fixture in

the top 10, failed to make the list after falling steadily from second place two years ago to 76th last year.

Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe

Bryant, who will retire at the end of the current NBA season, also slid further down the list as he dropped to 84th place compared to 36th place last year. (rtr)

The rising 22-year-old talent, who reached the fourth round of the Australian Open in January, has already rep-resented her adopted country after teaming up with Nick Kyrgios to win the Hopman Cup at the start of the year.

Despite having received her Australian passport in De-cember, Gavrilova was only cleared to play Fed Cup by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) last month.

Former U.S. Open champion Sam Stosur, Casey Del-lacqua and Arina Rodionova round out the Australia team for the tie against the 17-times champions, which will be played on clay at the Pat Rafter Arena from April 16-17.

“We’re thrilled for Dasha to make her Fed Cup debut for Australia on home soil next weekend and we know she’ll bring great energy and a fighting spirit to the team,” team captain Alicia Molik said in a Tennis Australia state-ment.

“Sam is our most experienced Fed Cup player and will really enjoy the opportunity to play in front of her home crowd at Pat Rafter Arena, and Casey and Arina add great depth to the squad.

“The USA has been dominant in Fed Cup competition for many decades and we know it will be a tough assign-ment next weekend, but we’re ready for the challenge and really looking forward to the tie.” (rtr)

Gavrilova to make Australia Fed Cup debut against U.S.

SYDNEY - Russian-born Daria Gavrilova will make her Fed Cup debut for Australia against the United States in Brisbane next week after being named in the squad for the world group playoff on Wednesday.

BARCELONA — Luis Suarez scored two second-half goals to lead Barcelona to a 2-1 comeback victory over 10-man Atletico Ma-drid in the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal on Tuesday.

Fernando Torres opened the scoring in the 25th minute, but quickly went from hero to villain for Atletico when two reckless tackles saw him sent off in the 35th. Atletico resisted the defending champion’s push for an equalizer until Suarez finally leveled with an opportunistic goal in the 63rd.

Suarez then put Barcelona ahead in the 74th when he played Dani Alves wide before sending the Brazil defender’s cross past goalkeeper Jan Oblak with an unstoppable header. “This is one of the worst days of my life as a football player,” Torres said. “I’m sad for having left my team with 10. In some way I feel responsible for the team not winning.

“I am sure that with 11 it would have been complete-ly different.” That view seemed to be shared by Suarez. “Torres’s red card was crucial because everyone knows about the quality he has,” Suarez said after scoring his team-high seventh and eight goals in the Champions League this season.

“It was a shame because it would have been great to come back against 11 play-ers. The most important thing is that we won and they will have to score in the Calderon.” Also on Tuesday, Bayern Munich edged Benfica 1-0 in their quarterfinal first leg.

Barcelona’s fightback came three days after Real Madrid ended Barce-lona’s Spanish record 39-match unbeaten streak with a 2-1 win at Camp Nou.

Besides recovering its winning ways after the disappointing “clasico” defeat, Luis Enrique’s side avenged its exit at the hands of Atletico from the 2013-14 quar-terfinals with its club-record 11th consecu-tive home win in the competition.

Suarez took his overall haul to 45 goals this season, as he and strike part-ners Lionel Messi and Neymar recov-ered their form after underwhelming against Real.

But at full strength, Atletico’s disci-plined defense, which had Diego Godin back in the middle after an injury layoff, disrupted Barcelona’s attack, a promis-ing sign that coach Diego Simeone can take into the second leg in addition to the away goal. “We are alive,” said Simeone, who added that he had to cool down after the match to avoid criticizing the referee for sending off Torres.

“They had the chance to get another goal, but

they couldn’t manage it. That will get our fans fired up for the second match in Madrid.”

Again, the clash of styles between the high-flying Barcelona and gritty Atletico produced an-other entertaining chapter in a grow-ing rivalry between the Spanish clubs.

Atletico was content to absorb Barcelona’s attacks until Antoine Griezmann got its first shot. While his effort was off-target, Tor-res didn’t miss a minute later to continue his great scoring record against Barceona. (ap)

GENEVA — FIFA President Gianni Infantino has defended his reputation after reports that he signed a Champions League broadcasting contract in 2006 with an offshore registered marketing agency implicated last year in the FIFA bribery scandal.

The contract, which Infantino co-signed as UEFA’s then-legal director, was leaked from the database of a Panama-based law firm, Mossack Fon-seca, the British daily The Guardian and the BBC reported on Tuesday.

“I am dismayed and will not accept that my integrity is being doubted by certain areas of the me-dia,” Infantino said in a statement published by FIFA, which he was elected to lead six weeks ago.

The UEFA contract reportedly co-signed by Infantino sealed a three-year deal for TV rights in Ecuador for the Champions League to Cross Trading.

That company is a subsidiary of a group owned by Argentine marketing executives Hugo and Mariano Jinkis, who were indicted last year by American federal pros-ecutors investigating a bribery and money laundering conspiracy in international soccer.

Infantino said Tuesday he “never

personally dealt with Cross Trad-ing nor their owners” in a tender process conducted by an agency retained by UEFA. “Moreover, as media themselves report, there is no indication whatsoever for any wrongdoings from neither UEFA nor myself in this matter,” Infan-tino said.

According to the British reports, Cross Trading paid $111,000 for the rights and sold them for a $200,000 profit to the Teleamazonas channel. There was no suggestion bribes or kickbacks were paid at any stage of the deals.

“The rights were awarded to Te-leamazonas/Cross Trading because they made the highest offer on the market,” UEFA said in a separate statement.

However, UEFA did acknowl-edge it gave inaccurate information last year when stating it had no commercial dealings with people and companies indicted in the United States federal case.

“At the time of our initial re-sponse we had not had the oppor-tunity to check each and every one of our (thousands) of commercial contracts and so the answer given was initially incomplete,” UEFA said. (ap)

GLASGOW — Rangers com-pleted its sobering, four-year jour-ney back to the top level of Scot-tish football following financial problems by clinching promotion from the second tier on Tuesday with five games to spare. Rang-ers beat Dumbarton 1-0 at Ibrox to guarantee winning the Scottish

Championship.The Glasgow club, which

has won Scotland’s top-flight title 54 times, was relegated to the country’s fourth and low-est tier in 2012 as punishment for building up large tax debts that led to the club’s collapse. Rangers achieved two straight

promotions, before needing two seasons to get out of the Cham-pionship.

It’s been a dark period for a club that has a world-record number of domestic league titles, and also 33 Scottish Cups, 27 League Cups and the now-defunct European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1972. (ap)

SAITAMA — Defending champion Guangzhou Evergrande is on the brink of a group-stage exit in the Asian Champions League after a 1-0 loss to Urawa Reds on Tuesday left the big-spending Chinese club winless in four games.

Yuki Muto’s header in the 52nd-minute secured Urawa’s vic-tory at home and moved the 2007 champions into second place in Group H with seven points, two behind Sydney FC.

Evergrande, coached by Luiz Felipe Scolari, has two points and needs wins its last two games to have any chance of pro-gressing in its bid for third Asian Champions League title in four seasons.

Brazilian midfielder Paulinho hit the post from eight yards, missing a chance to put Guangzhou in front early in the second half, minutes before Muto’s close-range header gave Urawa the lead.

Paulinho shot over the crossbar from Jackson Martinez’s cross in the 56th, failing to equalize in a contest Guangzhou needed to win.

In Sydney, forward Milos Ninkovic scored with his second touch from close range in 51st minute to give the hosts a 1-0 home win over the three-time champion Pohang Steelers, maintaining first place and needing only one point to ensure a spot in the knockout stage for the first time in three attempts.

“Good discipline, good effort and they played to the game plan,” Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold said of his team, which is languishing in seventh place in the

Australian A-League. “I’m very happy for once in 10 weeks. “We’re not there yet, I want us to finish on

top of the group.”In Group F, 2013 finalist FC Seoul was held

to a 0-0 draw at home by Shandong Luneng, moving to 10 points and remaining three

clear of the Chinese club. Seoul defender Osmar Barba hit the post with a volley

after 16 minutes and Shandong missed a chance when Gil headed pasted the

remained in contention with a 2-0 win at Buriram United, moving to six points as it extended the Thai club’s run to four straight losses.

In Group D at Jed-dah, Brazilian striker Douglas scored twice as Al Ain moved into

contention for a place in the knockout phase

with a 2-1 away win over Saudi Arabia’s Al Ahli. The

win — Al Ain’s second in a row over the Saudi side — moved

the inaugural ACL champions into second place on seven points, three

behind leader El Jaish from Qatar, which played to a scoreless away draw

with Uzbekistan’s Nasaf Qarshi. (ap)

MOSCOW — The official completion date of Sochi’s stadium for the 2018 World Cup has slipped back five months to November, the second such delay for a Rus-sian World Cup venue in the last week.

Regional sports minister Ly-udmila Chernova announced the

delay in comments to the state-run Tass agency, but did not give any explanations.

The Fisht stadium hosted the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2014 Winter Olympics, but has needed lengthy construction work to convert it for soccer and expand its capacity to over 47,000.

On Friday, Russian Sports Min-ister Vitaly Mutko said the St. Petersburg stadium had fallen three months behind schedule but would still open by the end of the year.

The St. Petersburg and Sochi stadiums will also host games in next year’s Confederations Cup. (ap)

(kmb42)

(rtr)

LONDON - The number of adults with diabetes has qua-drupled worldwide in under four decades to 422 million, and the condition is fast becoming a major problem in poorer countries, a World Health Organization study showed on Wednesday.

(kmb42)

16-02532. (rtr)

DENPASAR - Central forensic labora-tory of the National Police Headquarters of Denpasar Branch finally released the results of the investigation related to fire afflicting to the Badung Market. Accord-

ing to the chief of the central forensic laboratory, Koesnadi, the fire incident at the

market was not due to electrical short circuit. At that time, the flames first appeared in the first floor.

“We have made investigation all out for two days on March 1-2. Our team investigated from the first to fourth floor. Everything was burned except for the office on the fourth floor,” said Koesnadi, accompanied by the Spokes-man of Bali Police, Hery Wiyanto, Tuesday (Apr. 5).

From the results of the crime scene investigation by foren-sic laboratory team, said Koesnadi, is known that the fire was from the first floor near the stairs. “We found it on the first floor near the west pole number 7,” he said.

According to him, in general the characteristic of build-ing materials from the first to fourth floor are the same. However, the worst damage occurred on the first floor because of the high heat and lasted long enough.

The so-called Panama Papers

reports, which were coordinated by the Washington-based International Consortium of Investigative Journal-ists, have implicated a diverse range of figures, including Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan.

Bachchan denied any connection to four shipping companies registered in tax havens following reports by The Indian Express newspaper. “It is pos-sible that my name has been misused,” Bachhan tweeted late Tuesday.

“I have paid all my taxes in-cluding on monies spent by me overseas,” he said. “Monies that I

have remitted overseas have been in compliance with law, including re-mittances through LRS (Liberalized Remittance Scheme) after paying Indian taxes. In any event the news report in the Indian Express doesn’t even suggest any illegality on my part.”(ap)
