He pointed out that the knowledge of travelers on tourism village tends to refer to the Penglipuran and Pengotan traditional village, while the others have not been known yet. “Only some few tourism vil- lages have been known by travel- ers, while the others are virtually unknown,” he said. He said further that so far the attention given by the government to tourism village is more focused on quantity than on quality. Maximize first an object and then establish another object,” he said. What Jamin said is intended to avoid the collapse of the program having been designed. On the other hand, he also criticized the exist- ing human resources at a number of tourism villages are considered inadequate because the knowledge on the attraction is not known well. Suarjaya added that the lack of guidance and training to the resi- dents of Bayunggede village from the government related to tourism management becomes one of the causes of the slow development of the attraction. Only few local residents of Bayunggede are getting involved in tourism, while on the other hand the tourist attraction is necessary to be developed. “Only few people who know about tour- ism, so that it is required training and coaching,” he said. transition is complete. “Call me Caitlyn,” declares a headline on

the July cover of Vanity Fair, with a photo of a long-haired Jenner in a strapless corset, legs crossed, sit-ting on a stool. The image was shot by famed celeb photographer An-nie Leibovitz. Inside, more images show Caitlyn in gold lame, a black bustier and a cleavage-baring, off-

the-shoulder gown.

Caitlyn Jenner also debuted a new Twitter account with: “I’m so happy after such a long struggle to be living my true self. Welcome to the world Caitlyn. Can’t wait for you to get to know her/me.”

The account broke a record for fast-est time to reach 1 million followers, besting President Barack Obama’s new @Potus handle with a mark of 4 hours and 3 minutes, according to Guinness World Records.

Vanity Fair took to Twitter with the cover Monday and said Jenner spoke emotionally about her gender journey: “If I was lying on my deathbed and I had kept this secret and never ever did anything about it, I would be lying there saying, ‘You just blew your entire life.’”

The cover comes after Jenner’s two-hour ABC interview with Diane Sawyer in which Bruce Jenner confirmed the transition. The much-anticipated “20/20” interview on April 24 was watched by more than 17.1 million viewers.

Prior to the unveiling of Caitlyn, Jenner had said he preferred the pronoun “he,” but Vanity Fair contributing editor Buzz Bissing-er, who wrote the story, refers to “she.”

The Olympian who married and divorced reality show “momager” Kris Jenner has appeared for years on “Keep-ing Up with the Kardashians.” Jenner’s own still-untitled docu-series chroni-cling her transition is scheduled for the same network, E!, beginning July 26.

In addition to the va-va voom corset cover, Vanity Fair released a black-and-white video on the making of the cover

“Caitlyn doesn’t have any secrets,”

Jenner narrates. “As soon as the Vanity Fair cover comes out, I’m free.”

Bissinger, the “Friday Night Lights” Pulitzer Prize winner, said in the lengthy magazine story that he had unfettered ac-cess to Jenner, both before her transition and after. His approach to Jenner’s life is exhaustive, based on interviews with several of her biological children, her mother, her former wives and others.

The story describes Jenner’s painful recovery from “facial-feminization” surgery in March, a grueling 10-hour procedure that had Jenner briefly sec-ond-guessing the decision during a panic attack eased in part with the help of a Los Angeles Gender Center counselor who made a house call. There was also a breast-augmentation procedure.

Now, Bissinger reports, the 65-year-old Jenner is “immensely happy, relaxed, with a shiny sense of purpose and confi-dence.” He added: “She can’t wait when she goes out now to tell the paparazzi to ‘make sure it’s a good shot.’”

Of the upcoming reality series, Jenner is already prepared with a response over criti-cism that she’s doing it for a paycheck:

“I’m not doing it for money. I’m doing it to help my soul and help other people. If I can make a dollar, I certainly am not stupid. (I have) house payments and all that kind of stuff. I will never make an excuse for some-thing like that. Yeah, this is a business.”

Jenner said she is aware of the ap-palling conditions in which many of the 700,000 transgender men and women live in the U.S. and plans to shed light in the E! show on such issues as suicide and attempted suicide within the com-munity.(ap)

NEW YORK — Enrique Iglesias is undergoing recon-structive hand surgery in Los Angeles after his fingers were sliced during a recent concert.

His representative said in a statement to The Associated Press that surgery on the 40-year-old singer will be com-pleted Monday.

Iglesias sliced some of his fingers when he grabbed a drone during a concert in Tijuana, Mexico, on Saturday. He was “semitreated” at the side of the stage to stop the bleeding.

“Thank you to all for your concern and good wishes. Enrique is currently undergoing reconstructive hand surgery today,” the statement read. “Enrique will resume his tour July 3rd in Mexico City. We appreciate all your wishes and prayers.”

Iglesias performed an additional 30 minutes, though he was advised to end his show after the accident occurred at Plaza de Toros de Playas in front of 12,000 fans, who posted photos and video on social media of Iglesias with a bandaged hand and blooded T-shirt.

Iglesias was rushed to Los Angeles after the concert to see a specialist. The singer’s show was part of his Sex and Love World Tour. (ap)

NEW YORK — E L James is back for more. A fourth novel in the British author’s multimillion-selling “Fifty Shades of Grey” erotic series will be released June 18 by Vintage Books, the publisher announced Monday. The new book is called

“Grey,” told from the point of view of billionaire Christian Grey, whose explicit romance with young Anas-tasia Steele became an international obsession. As with the “Fifty Shades” books, “Grey” will be published as an e-book and a paperback original.

In a statement issued through Vin-tage, a paperback imprint of Penguin Random House, James said she was dedicating the new book to readers who had “asked ... and asked ... and asked ... asked” for a novel narrated by Christian. “Christian is a complex

character and readers have always been fascinated by his desires and motivations, and his troubled past,” she said. “Also, as anyone who has ever been in a relationship knows, there are two sides to every story.”

Begun as fan fiction inspired by

the “Twilight” novels, the “Fifty Shades” trilogy has sold more than 125 million copies since coming out in 2011. The first “Fifty Shades” movie came out earlier this year and grossed more than $500 million worldwide. (ap)

Representative of the residents, Wayan Muli, admitted to be disap-pointed over the change to the plan. “What is the difference of Gadungan village from the other villages? Why does only the road at our village get the waterbound macadam asphalt?” he demanded. He continued that vil-lage representative making coordina-tion with the regent got a promise if the road at Gadungan village will be worked on with hot mix asphalt along two kilometers. But the recent information told if the road will only be paved with waterbound macadam asphalt. This change kindles people to upset and spontaneously perform a demonstration.

Subdistrict head of East Selema-deg, I Gusti Putu Ngurah Darma Utama, came to mediate the residents by giving an explanation. Roadwork at Gadungan village has been budgeted in 2015. The process has been running and remains in bidding phase. “Road repair cannot be carried out directly. It takes time because it requires a prepa-ration, tender to planning. It cannot be done in one or two months,” said Darma. To that end, Darma hoped that

residents can wait.County road at Gadungan village,

according to Darma, is in need of repair. However, due to budget con-straints and following the process, the community is expected to wait patiently. To help the public, Gad-ungan village has got the fund of the neighborhood road repair program known as Gerbang Indah Serasi (GIS) for three times. “In three years, Gad-ungan village has got the assistance of GIS program for three times,” said Darma. Regarding the promise of hot mix asphalt replaced with water-bound macadam asphalt, according to Darma, happens due to limited budget and irregular budget ahead of the re-gent and deputy regent election. “The budget is absorbed in the regent and deputy regent election this year so that the hot mix asphalt promised is then replaced with waterbound macadam asphalt,” Darma said.

A legislator of the Tabanan House, I Wayan Eddy Nugraha, coming to mediate the residents explained that the road improvement at Gadungan village has been included in the tender stage. He acknowledged if the hot mix

asphalt along two kilometers promised is replaced with waterbound macadam asphalt due to budget constraint and irregular expenditure for regent and deputy regent election this year. But as compensation, in the regional budget amendment there is a hot mix roadwork along 1.5 kilometers. “So, Gadungan village totally gets 3.5 km. It is longer than what has been promised,” explained Eddy. However, Eddy hoped that residents can wait the realization because the road repair remains in the tender stage.

Hearing the explanation, some residents claimed not to know. The last information they get is that the change from hot mix to waterbound macadam asphalt. Acting headman of Gadungan, I Wayan Sudika Pariguna, explained that his party always coordi-nates with local government regarding the road repair at Gadungan village. “Recently I assigned the head of af-fairs to inquire the continuity and I was told that it remains in tender stage,” he said. He acknowledged there is a change in road repair plan from hot mix to waterbound macadam asphalt due to budget constraint, and for this

Semarapura -Investors in Nusa Penida are asked

not to use underground water because it can cause a decrease in the ground water level. The use of underground water can damage the environment, where one of which is reducing the life of plants on the surface. To that end, the investors making a construc-tion or operating in Nusa Lembongan are required to use the services of the seawater treatment namely seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO). However, the price of the SWRO water produc-tion is still fairly expensive, so that it

makes a lot of investors think twice to use the water produced with the system.

Chairman of Commission III of the Klungkung House, Made Jana, revealed that the efforts to supply clean water in Nusa Penida have been done by the county government and the legislative. In Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan, the SWRO has been running attempted to serve local and foreign investors. However, the con-sumption of water used commercially must pay more expensive than public consumption.

The more expensive price of the SWRO water production should not be a reason for the investors to use the underground water. According to him, the high enough use of under-ground water will have an impact on the environment because it can cause the underground water continue to decrease. Moreover, the underground water is used for commercial activities such as hospitality sector with swim-ming pool. At the dissemination of the SWRO system, the price of water is mentioned at IDR 41,000 per cubic meter, while the water offered by the

Municipal Waterworks (PDAM) of Klungkung is only IDR 1,400 per cubic meter.

By all means, the investors are more interested in using underground water that is still very easy to get in Nusa Lembongan. Both the public and investors still take advantage of the underground water to meet their individual needs. Moreover, there have been no rules that limit the investors to take advantage of the un-derground water. In the meantime, the water service by the PDAM in Nusa Penida can just serve six of the sixteen

villages in the archipelagic area. He hoped the water needs in Nusa Penida can be served by the PDAM Klung-kung especially the network services to investors. Currently, the network owned by the PDAM in Nusa Penida, Klungkung has just reached Semaya hamlet denoting the last PDAM instal-lation. Actually pursuant to the water discharge owned, Nusa Penida can meet the needs in the area. “Water discharge can meet local needs but we are still unable to utilize it. So far, only six villages in Nusa Penida can have been served,” he concluded. (dwa)

Tabanan -After making a demonstration due to damaged road, villagers of Gadungan, East Selemadeg,

held another demonstration by closing road and planting banana trees in the middle of the road, Sunday (May 31). People protested because the two-kilometer hot mix road as promised was replaced with waterbound macadam asphalt.

matter he has disseminated to each hamlet chief so as to be forwarded to residents. “Apparently, the informa-tion below has not been accepted,” he said.

Pariguna explained that there are two roads proposed to be fixed. The first segment is the Gadungan-Pucuk and another is Gadungan-Gempinis. Originally the hot mix repair is pro-posed for the first segment. Due to the demand of residents, the repair is transferred to the second segment. “So, the next repair along two kilome-ters planned for hot mix changed to waterbound macadam asphalt will be

made to the second segment,” he said. Pariguna admitted that he just knew about the additional 1.5 kilometers of hot mix planned in the budget amend-ment. “It is said there is an additional 1.5 km of hot mix road for the first segment,” he said.

The solidarity demonstration hap-pens quite slowly. Residents insist on closing the road, until their aspiration can be conveyed. Chairman of the Ta-banan House, Ketut ‘Boping’ Suryadi also came to make mediation with residents. After giving their aspira-tions, residents agreed to re-open the hampered road. (kmb24)

LOS ANGELES — Virtual reality is creeping into our world. Once seen as a tool for alien-blasting gamers, movie studios, televi-sion producers and artists are now adopting the technology, which immerses people in faraway realms using bulky goggles, house-sized domes, and smartphones.

Entering a virtual world means that users who look left, right, up or behind experience an alternate environment, even when they’re sitting in a theater or on a couch.

It means a horror movie can be promoted with a haunted house tour featuring a mass murderer who can spring from anywhere. Or a shark documentary enhanced by the sensation that you’re being circled by predators.

“What’s better for jump scares than, like, turning your head and it’s right in your face?” says Matt Lipson, senior vice president of digital marketing at Focus Features.

Virtual reality may not appear at your local multiplex soon, but it’s being used to lure you there.

Universal’s Focus Features recently launched its first virtual-reality experience for movies, promoting the upcoming release of its “Insidi-ous: Chapter 3” horror flick. It’s driving a truck around the country, inviting fans to wear virtual-reality goggles. It’s also sent out thousands of movie-branded Google Cardboard kits, which fold around smart-phones to turn them into primitive VR viewers. Fans can download the app from Google Play, or the App Store, to make it work.

In the “Insidious” VR experience, viewers sit in a haunted house across from a psychic. Various scares appear from the right and left and, in the end, there is a close-up encounter with an undead serial killer known as the Bride in Black.

Lionsgate used a similar approach for its “Insurgent” movie. It applied VR to try to widen the film’s fan base beyond young women, to male fans of action movies. Using VR was one way to appeal to gamers, who are mostly men and are expected to be the first buyers of VR headsets.

VR remains the realm of promotion. But content created now or for future films could also build value for home video products as more VR headsets are sold, Lipson says.

And the number of outlets for virtual reality is increasing.Oculus VR, the company Facebook bought for $2 billion and

a leader in the VR headset market, is expected to start shipping a consumer version early next year. It’s already sold 150,000 goggles as test units for content developers. Samsung, meanwhile, is selling Gear VR, which works with Galaxy S6 smartphones. Sony will release a consumer version of its Project Morpheus, which connects to its PlayStation 4, in the first half of next year.

Oculus’s goal is to get headsets into as many hands as possible, says co-founder and head of product Nate Mitchell. The company set up a division of experimental filmmakers called Oculus Story Studio to help other filmmakers learn how to create VR video.

“Our goal is making the Rift (headset) and virtual reality afford-able,” says Mitchell, adding that he hopes it “becomes a technology that truly changes the world.”

Facebook is testing what CEO Mark Zuckerberg calls “spherical video,” or a flat representation of immersive content that could be navigable by mouse on its website. Google’s YouTube launched sup-port for “360-degree video” on Chrome browsers and Android phones in March and is providing VR camera rigs for its partners at its six studios. Fold-up Google Cardboard units can be bought online for as little as $2.46.

Discovery Communications is also planning to launch VR content under the Discovery Virtual brand in August.

Teams are already shooting off the Bahamas in preparation for “Shark Week” in July, says Conal Byrne, Discovery’s senior vice president of digital media. Fans of the series are used to watching the circling predators from inside a protective cage. But virtual reality would heighten the fear factor, as sharks could cruise by while your head is turned elsewhere.

“This feels like the perfect opportunity for virtual reality to say, ‘Now let’s really put you inside this world,’” Byrne says.

Part of the experiment is seeing what works creatively, including not making people sick. The other part is trying to determine how to make virtual reality a business, Byrne says. That could include advertising, putting commercial products inside virtual worlds, and giving fans another reason to watch TV shows. (ap)

The deal is the biggest in Intel Corp.’s 47-year history. It is the latest in an in-dustry that is looking to acquisitions to boost lackluster sales and cut costs. Sales are falling for personal computers because people are increasingly turning to smartphones and tablets.

While Intel already works with Altera on the manufacturing of certain kinds of high-end chips, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said that owning the company will allow Intel to fully in-tegrate that manufacturing and put in place design and production improve-ments, ultimately lowering costs and improving the products.

Altera is known for making chips used in phone networks and cars, mar-kets in which Intel has been looking to expand.

“Their PC chip business is going downhill, and so here’s a way to bolster their earnings by getting into a different type of business,” says Tony Cherin, finance professor emeritus at San Diego State University.

The recent wave of deals in the chip industry could have a downside for con-sumers, Cherin added. As the big players buy up smaller companies, he warned,

there’s a danger that competition will diminish and consumers could see higher prices for electronics products.

Intel, based in Santa Clara, Cali-fornia, is the world’s largest maker of PC chips and dominates the market for chips used in servers, a much more profitable product.

Mark Hung, an analyst at the re-search firm Gartner, noted that Intel’s offerings of communications chips, which send data from mobile devices to servers, are limited. The acquisition of Altera, which gets about half of its rev-enue from the communications industry, should help with that, he said.

The deal is also a way for Intel to strengthen its business in server chips.

Altera makes a type of chip, known as “field programmable gate arrays,” that can be configured for specific functions and brought to market more quickly than some of Intel’s traditional server chips, tech analyst Patrick Moor-head of Moor Insights & Strategy said. They can also be used to speed up cer-tain tasks within a computing center.

“What Intel is doing is finding ways to accelerate cloud applications,” Moorhead said. “There wouldn’t be a Facebook or

Twitter or your smartphone without these monster data centers behind them.”

Meanwhile, chip demand from the automotive industry, which Altera serves, continues to grow as cars get in-creasingly sophisticated. Vehicles with autonomous features, like automatic braking and lane-keeping systems, need significantly more computing power to operate those systems. Google’s self-driving car, for example, uses the equivalent of five high-end laptops’ worth of computing power.

According to IC Insights, a semicon-ductor research company, just 8 percent of chip sales will go to the auto industry this year. But that segment is expected to grow by around 10 percent each year through 2018.

Under the deal announced Monday, Altera Corp. stockholders will receive $54 per share, an 11 percent premium to the San Jose, California, company’s clos-ing price of $48.85 on Friday. Its stock rose more than 6 percent Monday.

The deal, which still needs the OK of Altera shareholders, is targeted to close in six to nine months.

Intel’s shares fell 60 cents to $33.86 in afternoon trading. (ap)

Chief of the Gianyar Mu-nicipal Police, I Gede Daging, said that the sudden inspections is carried out in response to a number of public complaints that at a number of bars and restau-rants in Ubud often perform live music entertainment until early hours. “We received reports that a number of bars and restaurants provide live music entertainment at late night to early morning, so that we make a sudden inspec-tion,” he explained.

The inspection was begun on Saturday night around nine o’clock until Sunday morning around two o’clock. As a result, a number of restaurants and bars located around Jalan Monkey Forest such as the Laughing Buddha Bar, Lol Bar and Restau-rant, XI Shisha Lounge and Bar were disciplined by the officers. “When inspected, the manage-ment cannot present or show their business and event license,” said Gede Daging.

Spending holidays in Bali seems incomplete before trying some ma-rine attractions at Tanjung Benoa. Aside from serving as accommoda-tion center, the tourist resort sitting in South Kuta subdistrict has a fairly long stretch of beach and retains beautiful coastal nature. As tourism supporting facilities, vari-ous water attractions are on offer at Tanjung Benoa and these make the area better known as a hub of marine tourism in Bali.

Perching close to BTDC Nusa Dua area makes it a strategic and ideal location for five-star hotels. Along the beach, dozens of wa-ter sport businesses offer a wide selection of attractions. They are

ranging from parasailing, diving, banana boat, flying fish and some other challenging attractions. Regarding the price, they are still affordable with foreign tourists and local tourists, especially the lineups of students.

The most favorite attraction for foreign tourists is parasail-ing where they can fly happily and circle in the air over the sea. Unlike banana boat, tourists have been very familiar with this at-traction. Participants can ride on it while using a life jacket. After-ward, the parachute is pulled by a boat moving at medium speed. Participants may also be dropped into water and this makes the at-

traction more exciting.Tanjung Benoa a Hub of Water

Sports in Bali-2For local and for-eign tourists, another more excit-ing attraction that should not be missed is flying fish. When taking this attraction, every participant will get amazing experience to fill in holidays in Bali. By facing upward while an instructor stand-ing at the back, everything will go safe and amazing. This flying fish is pulled by a boat at a high-speed counter-downwind.

More interestingly, you can also take a diving adventure to enjoy the undersea enchantment. The waters of Tanjung Benoa of-fer a stunning variety of charms

along with its unique marine biota. For professional divers, diving into particular depth will not be a problem, while beginners wishing to learn should be accompanied by an instructor.

If you do not want to miss this intriguing moment, it should be im-mortalized by video or photograph camera. While bringing along with bread to feed fish, divers will usu-ally encounter beautiful underwa-ter sceneries and coral reefs filled with colorful fish. During the div-ing takes place, you can pose to be showed off to some friends. By all means, this underwater experience will give you unlimited stories to tell. (015)

currently frequently holds live music until early morning but ironically the organization is not equipped with a business license and event license. It is evident from the inspection conducted by the ranks of the Gianyar Municipal Police by issuing first reprimand to five entertainment venues around Jalan Monkey Forest, Ubud, Saturday night (May 30).

agements ensnared in the inspec-tion were directly given the first reprimand as well as summoned to the office of the Gianyar Municipal Police on Monday, (Jun 1) to obtain further guid-ance. “Those who are not able to present their license have been summoned and got coaching,” he explained.

Being unsatisfied with that

achievement, the ranks of the Gianyar Municipal Police also conduct an inspection to boarding house in the area of Gianyar such as Semebaung neighborhood being vulnerable to population administration offenses. In the inspection was found fifteen migrants that have not equipped themselves with temporary resi-dent permit (KIPPS).

The newcomers netted were directly given a reprimand to submit their temporary resident permit at local village. In the meantime, a number of identity cards are secured by the officers to be submitted to headman of-fice for an immediate process of temporary resident permit. “Migrant inspection is a regular agenda implemented to discipline

MOSCOW - Russia criti-cised the European Union on Monday for allowing the pub-lication of a list of European officials barred from entering the country in the diplomatic fallout over the Ukraine cri-sis. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow, which drew up the list in response to a similar ban on Russian of-ficials by the EU, had handed over the list to the EU “confi-dentially.”

The EU says the travel bans are unjustified and a list seen by Reuters at the week-end showed 89 European politicians and military lead-ers were included on it. Czech Foreign Minister Lubomir Zaoralek summoned Russia’s ambassador on Monday to express disagreement with the “unilateral, groundless and non-transparent step”, his ministry said in a statement.

Zaoralek also said a documentary aired recently by state-controlled TV station Rossia had portrayed the 1968 Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia “in significant contradic-tion with facts”. Lavrov dismissed as “absurd” Western criticism that Russia’s travel bans were unjustified.

“The reverse sanctions that were introduced

applied to officials who have been most active in support-ing the state coup that led to the start of persecution and discrimination of Russians in Ukraine,” Lavrov told a news conference, confirming Rus-sia had drawn up the list.

“With the EU introduc-ing its restrictions on some 150 Russians, I think, we did the same for a consider-ably smaller number of EU member states’ citizens,” he said. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters the bloc’s reaction had been “difficult to understand”.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) puts the total number of cases globally at 1,154, with at least 434 related deaths. A 58-year-old woman, who had contact with South Korea’s first patient, died of acute respiratory failure on Monday, the Health Ministry said. A 71-year-old man who had been on respiratory support with a history of kidney ailments also died.

South Korea’s health ministry reported seven new cases on Tuesday, including the woman who died, bringing the total number of cases to 25. South Korea now has the third highest number of cases after Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. Deputy Prime Minister Choi Kyung-hwan said the govern-ment’s credibility was at stake after criticism against authorities for failing to contain the virus after the first patient’s symptoms were ini-tially overlooked. “We will bring together all our health-related capabilities now and work to dis-solve anxiety and concerns quickly,” he said.

The death rate from MERS, first identified in humans in 2012, has been 38 percent, ac-cording to WHO figures, with older patients and those with existing respiratory and renal ailments at greater risk, according to a South Korean doctor.

By comparison, the death rate from SARS was 9 to 12 percent, rising above 50 percent for patients over 65, according to the U.S. National Library of Medicine.

PUBLIC ALARM GROWINGThe WHO has so far not recommended travel

or trade restrictions for South Korea. But South Korean border control authorities have issued a ban on overseas travel for people isolated for possible infection, a health ministry official said. South Korea’s Hyundai Motor said it had asked employees to avoid travelling to the Middle East, while chipmaker SK Hynix said it would instruct employees to avoid non-essential overseas work travel. Seven kindergartens and one elementary school near the hospital in Gyeonggi province which reported the first death were shut for the week. “So far it’s been inside hospitals that in-fections occurred but as soon as it gets out, it’ll probably spread rapidly,” said Lee Yu-jeong, a 41-year-old mother of three children.

“As a parent, it is worrying ... the mood among mothers is that even if you’re a little sick, you try to avoid hospitals.” Some tour agencies have started seeing overseas groups cancelling trips to South Korea, with one company reporting a group of 300 Chinese scrapping a visit this week and another also seeing cancellations by Chinese travellers.

China last week reported its first MERS case -- a South Korean man who tested positive after breaking a voluntary house quarantine and flew to Hong Kong and then travelled to mainland China. Xinhua news agency reported that the patient’s condition had worsened and authorities were looking for people who had been in close contact with him. (ap)

DUBLIN - Ireland’s state broadcaster will appeal on Tuesday for a court to let it report a lawmaker’s speech in parliament that ac-cused a billionaire of obtaining sweetheart bank loans, a ruling that could determine how far Irish courts can go to muzzle the press. At issue is whether “absolute privilege” of lawmakers to speak up in parliament - and news organisations to report their remarks - trumps the wide power of Irish courts to halt publication of stories that they rule may be libellous.

Ireland’s domestic media have so far mainly complied with a court order banning reporting of accusations against billionaire press baron Denis O’Brien, even though lawmaker Catherine Murphy stood up in parliament last week to repeat the allegations. Instead, the court-imposed media blackout has itself become the story.

“I do not believe it’s tenable that media outlets in Ireland cannot report on what is taking place in our parliament and media outlets outside of Ireland can and are,” Irish Transport Minister Paschal Donohoe told state broadcaster RTE. “That is not accept-able.”

The leader of Ireland’s main opposition party, Fianna Fail, said the country was on the verge of a “constitutional crisis” over the issue. O’Brien is one of Ireland’s most

powerful press barons, owner of its biggest circulation newspaper, the Irish Independent, as well as four other national newspapers, 13 regional newspapers and two major national radio stations.

He denies wrongdoing and says he has a right to privacy in his financial affairs. On May 21, he obtained a court order prevent-ing RTE from airing a report about his past business dealings.

Last week, Murphy stood up in parliament to accuse him of paying a below-market inter-est rate for loans from the state-owned Irish Banking Resolution Corporation (IBRC), the wind-down vehicle for a bank that collapsed during the 2008 financial crisis.

The details of Murphy’s speech have been reported in some British media, but have generally not appeared in Irish news reports, even though the speech is available in tran-scripts on parliament’s website, http://www.oireachtas.ie.

O’Brien’s spokesman told RTE: “Most of what she said was untrue but not all of it. Catherine Murphy has presented as facts figures that are not correct and she has made statements that are fundamentally wrong.” The spokesman declined to elaborate. He told Reuters he had been advised that it would breach the court order to go into further detail. (rtr)

The journey to the home of the man finding the object, I Ketut Nada, 70, must pass through an ascending and sharp path. He ac-cidentally found the unique object. When he was about to plant the clove seedlings at his garden, his hoe paused as touching a hard object. Having been seen closely, in fact he found a cracked jar as hit by hoe. It contains seven blades of former selonding musical instru-ment in rusty condition. “I have no special feelings when finding the historical objects. Suddenly, I found them when digging a hole in the garden with the depth of 40 centimeters to be planted with clove seedlings. I found them five months ago and stored at home. It

contains seven rusty iron blades like selonding musical instrument collected in an old jar,” said Nada, Sunday (May 31).

Accompanied by his wife, Ni Ketut Sugindri, 70, Nada does not want if the historic objects are requested by the government. He believes that during the five months there is no incident at his home. The historical objects are believed to be the surrogate of his ancestors. He even already consulted to a me-dium to know about what to do with the unique objects alleged to have reached hundreds of years old. “I just put the heritage at home. When consulted to a medium, the psychi-cal realm told that the discoverer is given the authority to use it,”

added Nada.Finding of the seven pieces of

iron rod has the characteristics of rusted scrap metal with two small holes at the bottom and top end. Allegedly the hole serves as loca-tion to put bamboo rod as a buffer of the selonding musical instru-ment. In the meantime, the old jar is dominated by dark brown color without containing Balinese carv-ing identity. Nada claimed that at Selat village there are never any findings or history on the making of selonding gamelan music in-strument in the past. “There is no history on the making of gamelan here, our residents at Selat are dominated by farmers,” he said. AMLApURA - Amidst the high stray dog bite cases in Karan-gasem, the victims are still difficult to get anti-rabies vaccine (VAR). A few days ago seven people in a large family were suddenly bit-ten by rabies-suspected puppy. Because of worrying about being contracted by rabies, the victims looked for vaccine to Wangaya Hospital, Denpasar, but they only got one ampoule.

Based on the search on Monday (May 31), five of the seven people bitten by their puppy at Bingin hamlet, Datah village, Karan-gasem, included Nyoman Yasa and his wife Wayan Perok and their three children namely Anik, Ketut Antara aka Ara and Ayuk. The elder brother of Nyoman Yasa namely Nyoman Lagas aka Bancik as well as a toddler of the victim’s next-door neighbor, Ketut Brerut, 4, were also bitten.

As the information of the victim’s family, originally the victim’s children have been warned in order to keep away from their puppy. It happens because the puppy shows off strange behavior and looks ferocious. Its master has been even bitten. But one of the victim’s children insists on inviting the puppy to play with him. In fact, it was bitten as well.

Ultimately the dog was killed by the victim Nyoman Bancik. The whole family members panicked because they suspected the puppy of suffering rabies. Consequently, they rushed to look for anti-rabies vaccine to Karangasem Hospital, but did not get. After that, the victims looked for at Wangaya Hospital but they only got an ampoule. Due to confusion, the victims were advised to purchase VAR to a clinic at Sanur with the price of IDR 750,000 per ampoule. Actually, the seven dog bite victims from the barren village belong to poor family.

In the meantime, a child from Kikihan, Tiyingtali, Karangasem, is also reported to have been bitten by a dog in the face. The victim ferociously bitten with many bites on the face was then rushed to a hospital in Denpasar.

The Chief of Tukad Besi customary village, Karangasem, I Wayan Pasek Ardita, when met a few days ago also expressed his concern about the high case of dog bites. At his home village, a total of five people were bitten by stray dogs within a few days ago. Allegedly one of the existing dogs is suffering rabies, so that it becomes ferocious. But when the victim looked for anti-rabies vaccine to hospital, it was revealed that there was no vaccine stock, so that some of them looked for vaccine to Lombok.

Related to the ferocious dog bites at Tiyingtali, a local resident told that stray dogs are already killed last Monday. “A few days ago, approximately 50 stray dogs or the dogs released by the own-ers were eliminated by the Karangasem Livestock, Fisheries and Maritime Agency.

Responding to high incidence of dog bites in Karangasem, a member of Commission IV of the Karangasem House, Gede Dana, said last Monday that Karangasem Health Agency is required to provide anti-rabies vaccine. To note, the purchase of the anti-rabies vaccine has been budgeted as much as IDR 1.5 billion this year.

In addition to providing anti-rabies vaccine by attempting to purchase to the manufacturer, Gede Dana posing the former chair-man of the Karangasem House also requested the executive, in this case the Livestock Agency, to continuously vaccinate the whole pet dogs of residents on regular basis. Besides, to avoid stray dog bites, he asked to perform elimination to those dogs. “Let us keep ourselves safe and avoid dog bites in any way in order to avoid unwanted risk,” he said.

On the other hand, when contacted earlier, the Head of the Karangasem Health Agency, IGM Tirtayana, admitted that provi-sion of the anti-rabies vaccine has been budgeted as much as IDR 1.5 billion this year.

But in fact the production of the anti-rabies vaccine is limited and Karangasem is unable to buy so that the supply is frequently empty. With the condition of without vaccine stock, he said, people should avoid dog bites. “We have to keep ourselves, do not get bitten by a dog, and avoid playing with dog, especially dogs having no clear origin and untreated well,” he said. With a debt repayment looming Friday that Greece cannot afford, the government was trying to quell an internal squabble — it dropped its candidate to be the next representative at the Inter-national Monetary Fund after nearly a third of Syriza lawmak-ers demanded the appointment be canceled.

Bailout negotiator and former World Bank employee Elena Panaritis said in a statement she was “unable to accept the appoint-ment” because of the opposition within the left-wing ruling party.

Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is struggling to reach a deal with bailout creditors to get more bailout loans, without which it cannot afford debt repayments it owes the IMF this month, start-ing Friday. But Tsipras faces opposition within own party to any agreement with creditors that would extend budget austerity measures that creditors have been demanding.

In a letter to the government, 44 of Syriza’s 149 parliament members described Panaritis as a “leading representative of bailout

policies.”The government has indicated

that to cover a series of June 5-19 IMF repayments totaling more than 1.5 billion euros ($1.7 bil-lion) it could take the emergency option of ‘bundling’ repayments till the end of the month.

Government officials could not be reached for comment Monday about whether Athens was consid-ering the emergency move.

Last month, more than a third of the ruling party’s 201-member central committee voted to skip the next IMF payments and prepare for

a potential euro-exit — a proposal rejected by a narrow majority.

Greece’s bailout lenders — fellow eurozone states and the IMF — argue that more cost-cutting measures are needed to make the Greek economy more sustainable. The reforms include higher overall sales taxes, a new tough round of pension reforms, and further cuts in job protection regulations.

Athens insists it has provided a viable alternative to the lenders’ proposals, with commitments to raising sales tax income, slashing early retirements, and by impos-ing new taxes on high company profits and Internet gambling.

But a promise by the govern-

ment to reach a conclusion by Sunday failed to materialize.

“Intense technical discussions have been taking place over the weekend and are continuing to take place ... Progress has been made but we are not yet there,” EU Commission spokeswoman Mina Andreeva said in Brussels.

On Sunday, Tsipras held a 35-minute call French President Francois Hollande and German Chancellor Angela Merkel on the Greek debt crisis.

Merkel and Hollande are due to meet later Monday in Berlin with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, though Greece was not officially on the agenda of the talks. (ap)

The consumer price index rose 7.15 percent year-on-year, ac-cording to the official statistics agency, faster than expected and up from a 6.79 percent increase in April. It was the highest level since 8.36 percent in December.

Inflation in Southeast Asia’s biggest economy has been edging up in recent months due mainly to higher fuel costs, after the gov-ernment at the start of the year almost totally abolished huge subsidies and let petrol prices

float with the market. In May, however, the main

driver was the higher cost of staples such as chicken and chilli as people stocked up ahead of the fasting month of Ramadan, which starts in mid-June.

Food prices typically rise before Ramadan as people in the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country buy more food to give away to the less fortunate

during Islam’s holiest month, and for elaborate fast-breaking meals.

Higher electricity prices also caused inflation to accelerate, said statistics agency chief Sury-amin, who like many Indonesians goes by one name.

The accelerating inflation presents a dilemma for Bank In-donesia, the central bank. Some economists are calling for policy-

makers to cut the main rate from 7.50 percent to boost slowing growth, but rising inflation limits their room for manoeuvre.

HSBC’s purchasing manag-ers index for Indonesia mean-while painted a gloomy picture of the manufacturing sector. It rose slightly to 47.1 in May from 46.7 in April but was still below 50, indicating a contrac-tion. (afp)

SEOUL— South Korea and China signed a free trade deal Monday that will remove tariffs on more than 90 percent of goods over two decades.

Trade ministers from the two countries met in Seoul to sign the

pact between two of Asia’s biggest economies

The agreement covers 22 areas in-cluding finance and online commerce but won’t include rice and autos.

South Korea’s trade ministry said

the deal would boost the country’s gross domestic product by nearly 1 percentage point and create more than 50,000 jobs in the decade after its implementation. The agreement will give South Korea’s small- and

medium-sized companies wider access to the Chinese market while boosting China’s investment in South Korea, the ministry said.

It was the first time for China to include finance, telecommunications

and e-commerce industries in a free trade deal, according to South Korea.

JAKARTA - Indonesia will meet with Middle East oil producers on the sidelines of an OPEC meeting in Vienna this week to negotiate possible long-term crude supply agreements for its refineries, a senior government official said.

The Southeast Asian country, which is considering asking to rejoin the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries after leaving in 2008, plans to hold bilateral meetings with Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iran, Iraq, Oman and the United Arab Emirates.

“We will discuss purchasing crude from them. We have a plan to build refineries, so we need crude supplies,” Wiratmaja Puja, director general of oil and gas at Indonesia’s Energy Minis-try, told Reuters late on Monday.

Indonesia, which is expected to become the world’s largest gasoline importer by 2018, has struggled to at-tract investment in its refining sector and its newest facility is more than 20 years old.

Government talks with Kuwait Petroleum and Saudi Aramco stalled

in 2013 over tax issues, and similar negotiations with Iran and Iraq for crude supplies have also made little headway.

But President Joko Widodo, who came into office in October, has re-newed the push to attract investment in the oil sector by cleaning up the graft-ridden industry and offering investors better incentives.

“Even though we don’t have a formal commitment with them, they have shown interest to supply crude to us for the long-term, 20-30 years,

and they are also ready to have a share in our refinery projects if necessary,” Puja said.

The government wants to build four new refineries and upgrade four existing facilities within 10 years, he said.

Indonesia, which is attending the OPEC meeting on Friday as an ob-server, will decide after the end of the gathering whether to officially request to rejoin as a member.

Indonesia was the only Asian OPEC member for nearly 50 years

before leaving the group in 2008 as oil prices hit a record high, and rising domestic demand and falling produc-tion turned it into the net oil importer it remains currently.

Full OPEC members must be net oil exporters, but so-called associate members are admitted under some circumstances.

If it returned, Indonesia would be the fourth-smallest OPEC producer ahead of Libya, Ecuador and Qatar, and bring the number of participants to 13 countries. (rtr)

JAKARTA - Scores of asy-lum-seekers have come ashore in eastern Indonesia after their boat was intercepted by the Australian navy and pushed into Indonesian waters as they headed for New Zealand, police said Monday.

The 65 migrants from Bangla-desh, Myanmar and Sri Lanka were spotted by the Australians, said Hidayat, an Indonesian po-lice official on Rote Island in the east of the archipelago.

“According to their testimony, they were pushed back by the Australian navy and immigration after they were interrogated,” said the official, who like many Indonesians goes by one name. “They said they were on their way to New Zealand.”

He said they were spotted by local residents Sunday near a beach after their boat sank.

Australia’s conservative gov-ernment introduced tough immi-gration policies in 2013 to stop an influx of would-be refugees.

Asylum-seekers arriving on vessels are sent to Pacific camps and vessels are turned back when it is safe to do so, or taken back to their country of origin.

The new arrivals in Indone-sia come as Southeast Asia is gripped by a human-trafficking crisis, which has seen thousands of migrants come ashore after a Thai crackdown threw the illicit trade into chaos.

Around 1,800 Rohingya from Myanmar as well as Bangladeshis

have landed in Indonesia’s Aceh province this month alone, and others have landed in Malaysia and Thailand.

Hidayat did not say where the latest group, which included women and children, had started their journey, although asylum-seekers have in the past set off from Indonesia en route to Australia.

The would-be refugees were being held at a police station and would be processed by im-migration officials on Tuesday, the official said.

After Australia introduced its military-led operation two years ago, the numbers attempting the route from Indonesia to Australia declined dramatically.

An official said last week that Australia had prevented 18 boats carrying asylum-seekers from arriving in the country since its conservative government came to power in September 2013.

New Zealand’s Prime Minister John Key warned last year that people-smugglers were looking to target his country after the introduction of Australia’s tough border protection policies.

While the voyage to New Zea-land from places such as Indone-sia and Sri Lanka is potentially far more perilous than trying to reach Australia, Key said people-smugglers and asylum-seekers were willing to take the risk in the wake of Canberra’s clamp-down. (afp)

Distraught relatives of some of the passengers scuffled with officials in the city of Shanghai, where many of those on board booked their trips, angry about what they said was a lack of in-formation about their loved ones. The Xinhua news agency said rescuers could hear people calling for help from inside the ship’s hull and television showed rescuers trying to cut through it with an angle grinder.

Divers pulled a man and a 65-year-old woman alive from the capsized four-decked tourist ship, Xinhua said. State media had ear-lier said the woman was 85. About another dozen people had been rescued and five bodies recovered, media reported, leaving more than 430 people unaccounted for. Doz-ens of rescue boats battled wind and rain to reach the ship, which lay upturned in water about 15 metres (50 feet) deep.

The disaster could bring a big-ger toll than the sinking of a ferry in South Korea in April 2014 that killed 304 people, most of them children on a school trip. The People’s Daily, which published a passenger manifest on its mi-croblog, said those on board the Eastern Star ranged in age from three to more than 80.

Tour guide Zhang Hui, 43, told Xinhua the capsize happened very fast and he scrambled out a window in torrential rain clutch-ing a life vest as he could not swim. “Wave after wave crashed over me; I swallowed a lot of water,” Zhang said, adding that he was unable to flag down pass-ing ships and finally struggled ashore as dawn broke holding onto a branch.

President Xi Jinping had or-dered that no efforts be spared in the rescue and Premier Li Keqiang went to the scene of the accident in central Hubei province, Xinhua said. About 60 family members gathered outside a travel agency in Shanghai and demanded information.

“I only found out about this on the news while I was at work and I came here,” said 35-year-old Wang Sheng, whose said his mother and father were on board. “I cried all the way here and here I can’t find anyone, the door is locked.”

BEIRUT - The United States has accused the Syrian military of carrying out air strikes to help Islamic State fighters advance around the northern city of Aleppo, messages posted on the U.S. Em-bassy Syria official Twitter feed said. Islamic State fighters pushed back rival insurgents north of Aleppo on Sunday near the Turk-ish border, threatening their supply route to the city, fighters and a group monitoring the war said.

Fighters from Levant Front, a northern alliance which in-cludes Western-backed rebels and Islamist fighters, said they were worried Islamic State was heading for the Bab al-Salam

crossing between Aleppo and the Turkish province of Kilis. “Re-ports indicate that the regime is making air strikes in support of ISIL’s advance on Aleppo, aiding extremists against Syrian popula-tion,” a post on the U.S. Embassy Syria Twitter account said late on Monday, using an acronym for Islamic State.

Syrian officials have previ-ously dismissed as nonsense allegations by Washington and Syrian opposition activists that the Syrian military has helped Islamic State’s fight against rival Syrian insurgent forces. “The Syr-ian army is fighting Islamic State in all areas where it is present in

Syria,” a military source said. The United States suspended

operations in its embassy in Da-mascus in 2012 but still publishes messages on the embassy Twitter feed. The account said Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had long lost legitimacy and “will never be an effective counterter-rorism partner.”

Assad and Syrian officials have frequently called for international cooperation to fight jihadists in Syria. Damascus has described all insurgents fighting against it as foreign-backed “terrorist organisa-tions.” State news agency SANA said on Tuesday the military had “eliminated” a number of Islamic

State fighters in the Aleppo coun-tryside and that air strikes had destroyed some of the group’s vehicles.

But the U.S. Twitter feed said Damascus had a hand in promot-ing Islamic State, an al Qaeda offshoot which has seized land in Syria and Iraq. “With these latest reports, (the military) is not only avoiding ISIL lines, but, actively seeking to bolster their position,” it said. Syria has accused its regional enemies of backing hardline insur-gent groups.

The Syrian military has car-ried out recent air bombardments in the province, including inside Aleppo city and on the Islamic

State-held town of al-Bab to the northeast, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitoring group. Some rebels have questioned why U.S.-led forces bombing Islamic State in Syria and Iraq have not focused on bombing the jihadists around Aleppo city.

In rebel-held Aleppo, a local council that helps run civilian af-fairs called on fighters to be ready for battle with Islamic State, the Observatory said on Tuesday, cit-ing a statement. It called on “all mujahideen” to respond to Islamic State fighters which it said were receiving “air cover from the re-gime.” (rtr)

A woman is rescued by divers after a ship sank at the Jianli section of the Yangtze River, Hubei province, China, June 2, 2015. Rescuers fought bad weather on Tuesday as they searched for more than 400 people, many of them elderly Chinese tourists, missing after a ship capsized on the Yangtze River.

Hundreds missing, many elderly tourists, after ship capsizes on China’s Yangtze

JIANLI COUNTY - Rescuers fought bad weather on Tuesday as they searched for more than 400 people, many of them elderly Chinese tourists, missing after a ship capsized on the Yangtze River in what was likely China’s worst shipping disaster in almost 70 years. Divers and other rescue workers desperately tried to reach five people they found trapped in the upturned hull of the Eastern Star, a fraction of the 458 people state media reported were on board when the ship capsized in a storm late on Monday.

by police for questioning, Xinhua said. According to the Yangtze River navigation administration, the pair said the ship sank quickly after it was caught in what was described as a tornado. Xinhua reported that initial investiga-tions had found the ship was not overloaded and it had enough life vests on board for its passengers. Those rescued were wearing life vests, Xinhua said.

Among those on board were 406 tourists, aged from about 50 to 80, on a tour organised by a Shanghai tour group, along with 47 crew members and five tour guides, the People’s Daily said.

State radio said the ship went

over in about two minutes and no distress call had been issued. Seven people swam to shore to raise the alarm, media said. Fish-ing boats were among the dozens of vessels helping in the search and rescue, Xinhua said, and more than 1,000 police with 40 inflat-able boats had also been sent.

The Eastern Star, which has the capacity to carry more than 500 people, was heading to southwest-ern Chongqing city from Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province. It sank at around 9:28 p.m. in the Jianli section of the river.

Accidents of this magnitude are uncommon in China where major rivers are used for tours

and cruises. A tug sank on the Yangtze while undergoing sea trials in January, killing 22 of 25 people on board. In the worst pre-vious incident of its kind in Chi-na, the steamship Kiangya blew up on the Huangpu river in 1948, killing more than 1,000 people. The Eastern Star is owned by the Chongqing Eastern Shipping Corporation, which runs tours along the Three Gorges section of the Yangtze.

Wang Jianhua, its vice general manager, said it had never suf-fered an incident of this magni-tude. The official Hubei Daily said the company has been operating since 1981. (rtr)

SEMARAPURA - Budaga Vil-lage, that’s the name of a village which is located one kilometer west of the City Semarapura, Klungkung. A village with an area of about 35 hectares and a popula-tion of approximately 198 heads

of households (families), or 733 souls, consists of 367 male and 366 female. Since the beginning of its existence, when divided into two Budaga hamlets (Budaga Klod and Budaga Kaler), the people really involved in agricultural sector as

their main occupation. But over time, farming had

abandoned by its citizens. The main reason for the dissolution of agricultural was regeneration. Not only that, it is also because the area of agricultural land in the traditional

village area has decreased for resi-dential purposes.

One area of work in recent years so engrossed by Budaga Village residents after switching from agriculture is a brass handicrafts. Various types of products can be

made from brass. Sales not only in Bali, but to the outside Bali and even abroad.

In addition to handicrafts for the needs of religious ceremonies, there are also other crafts for souvenirs.

An explosive quarter-final, how-ever, awaits those lucky enough to hold Wednesday tickets for Court Philippe Chatrier after nine-times champion Nadal and world number one Djokovic set up a smoking showdown that former champion Jim Courier called “the match of the season so far.” For 10 days now, all roads at Roland Garros had been leading to this last eight collision and it became a reality as Spanish sixth seed Nadal tamed American tyro Jack Sock 6-3 6-1 5-7 6-2 shortly before Djokovic overwhelmed Richard Gasquet 6-1 6-2 6-3.

For under-the-weather Sharapova, though, Monday was a total let down. The Russian spent the changeovers coughing and spluttering into a tissue but the second seed refused to blame health problems for her earliest Paris exit since 2010.

“I’m still a competitor no matter what. I’m going to do everything in order to go out and give it my best. I did the best I could. Today it wasn’t enough, because my opponent had a different gear than I did,” the 2012 and 2014 champion told reporters. Sharapova was one of eight grand slam champions in action on day nine with Serena Williams and Roger Federer making sure they did not suffer the same fate as the Russian.

Top seed Williams relied on her

famed survival instincts rather than her explosive firepower to extinguish the challenge of fellow American Sloane Stephens 1-6 7-5 6-3.

As she came back from a set down for a third match in a row, her exertions turned her hot-pink outfit into darker shade of cerise -- but that mattered little to the fashion-conscious Williams. “I keep fighting, I never give up,” a grin-ning Williams summed up following a performance strewn with 43 unforced errors. Fellow 33-year-old Federer also harbours hopes of landing another title in Paris.

In the build-up to his showdown with French showman Gael Monfils, Federer tweeted a squiggly sketch of the Eiffel Tower. While his attempt at drawing the famous Paris landmark would not look out of place in the sketch books of his five-year-old twins Charlene Riva and Myla Rose, what the Swiss produced on court was a masterpiece.

DAZZLING FEDERERResuming the match at one-set all,

Federer dazzled Monfils with an array of spine-tingling winners for a 6-3 4-6 6-4 6-1 victory that kept him on track for a record 18th grand slam title. “I’m pumped up to be in the quarters again. It really means a lot to me,” he said. At 33, Federer would have been relieved with

such a swift conclusion to the match be-cause, thanks to Sunday’s rain-curtailed programme, he will be back on court for the third day running on Tuesday for his all-Swiss quarter-final against Stan Wawrinka.

There will be two Spaniards in the men’s last eight after seventh seed Da-vid Ferrer ended U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic’s run with a 6-2 6-2 6-4 romp. His next challenge will be ending the 14-match claycourt winning streak of Andy Murray after the British third seed tamed France’s Jeremy Chardy 6-4 3-6 6-3 6-2.

Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova was barely noticed as she also slipped out, beaten 2-6 6-0 6-3 by Swiss Timea Bacsinszky. Sharapova’s exit blew open the bottom half of the women’s draw, where Ana Ivanovic remains as the highest seed at seven.

While Safarova produced 19 scorching forehand winners to bam-boozle Sharapova, the Russian was also left to rue double faults at key moments.

She produced a pair of misfiring serves in the first set tiebreak, another double saw her go 2-0 down in the second set and a third handed Safarova match point. “Oh my God, I cannot say how happy I am... this is amazing,” Safarova said. (rtr)

VAlEntino RoSSi says Jorge Lorenzo’s current MotoGP form is “bad news” for his cham-pionship prospects, and he admits he cannot get as much out of the Yamaha as his team-mate at present. Although Rossi started the season with the upper hand at Yamaha, with Lorenzo unable to get on the podium in the first three races, the Spaniard’s run of three wins at Jerez, Le Mans and Mugello has left him just six points behind Rossi in the title race.

Lorenzo dominated the Italian Grand Prix on Sunday, leading by as much as eight seconds at one stage, while Rossi had to settle for third after qualfiying only eighth.

“The form of Jorge is bad news for me,” said Rossi. “He is very fast. “In the first part of the sea-son, I was stronger, but now Jorge is coming back at an incredible pace. “He is the only one who can ride at the maximum of the bike and take all the potential from the bike.” Rossi said he is struggling to find a set-up that makes him as comfortable on the Yamaha as Lorenzo now is.

“This [Mugello] race was similar to Jerez for me,” he said. “We tried to find a good set-up to go as fast as Jorge, but we never did. “We tried to improve for the race but it was not enough and in the first part of the race I was very slow.” Lorenzo, who was 29 points behind Rossi after the third grand prix of the season in Argentina, said he now feels the championship is achievable but does not want to get complacent.

“It’s still very soon to say we are going to win or we are going to keep this level, because the championship is very long still,” he said. “But five victories [for Yamaha] out of six races - that means something.

“We did a great job these past races to recover points, but [at the next race, Barcelona] everything can happen. “I could lose points, I could finish behind Valentino, behind the Ducatis or [Marc] Marquez, so we have to keep our feet on the ground, keep working. “This could be our year and we have to take profit.” (ap)

Sharapova bows out, Nadal sets up Djokovic showdown

PARiS - A cold chill circulated around Maria Sharapova as the title holder was frozen out of the French open on Monday but there was no stopping novak Djokovic and Rafa nadal from blazing a trail towards a scorching showdown. A day after rain played havoc with the schedule, Sharapova’s hopes of reaching a fourth successive final at Roland Garros were turned to dust in the fourth round by the dynamite forehand of lucie Safarova, the Czech winning 7-6(3) 6-4.

Then, with a penalty shoot out looming with just four minutes of the extra period remaining, Nicolai Mueller scored for the visitors, ensuring that Karlsruhe would need to score twice to gain promotion. Finally, Hamburg keeper Rene Adler sealed victory by saving a Rouwen Hennings penalty, awarded for handball, two minutes into stoppage time.

The late dramas ensured the former European champions narrowly maintained their proud

record of being the only Bundes-liga club never to have been relegated after 52 years in the top flight as they survived for the second straight year after another dismal season.

“No one gave up,” declared Mueller, whose tap in secured the victory. “We did it. We’re still in the Bundesliga. We were carry-ing a lot of baggage all season and it feels great to unload that all in a few seconds now.” Adler smiled: “I feel like I aged three

years tonight. It’s incredible what we did in the last six weeks. A triumph of team spirit.

“It was a crazy match and anything could have happened in a match like this. I was already thinking at the end of regulation time that we’d end up in the sec-ond division but caught myself and said ‘Stop, no that’s not go-ing to happen’.” Reinhold Yabo had brought them to the brink by volleying Karlsruhe ahead in the 78th minute.

BARCELONA, - Bar-celona fullback Jordi Alba has agreed to a new con-tract that will tie him to the club until 2020, the Catalan side confirmed on Tuesday. The 26-year-old Spain international has been a valuable member of the side that faces Ju-ventus in the Champions League final on Saturday as they look to complete a treble with the La Liga title and King’s Cup al-ready in the bag.

“Barcelona have ar-r ived a t an agreement with Jordi Alba for the renewal of his contract unti l the 30th of June, 2020,” a club statement read. “His buyout clause will be 150 million euros ($164.48 million). He will sign the contract in the coming days.”

Alba was released by the Barca youth academy but went on to prove him-self at Valencia before he was brought back in 2012. He has since thrived in Barca ’s qu ick-pass ing system with his pace and abi l i ty to a t tack down the left wing. He had two years to run on his exist-ing deal. (ap)

HAVANA - Brazilian football great Pele said he was pleased Tues-day’s friendly between the Cuban national team and his former club the New York Cosmos might help foster better relations between the United States and Cuba, which have embarked on detente. The Cosmos have scheduled the first match of an American professional sports team in Cuba since the two coun-tries announced in December they would seek to end half a century of animosity.

“It makes me happy that once again football is helping with peace, between United States and Cuba,” Pele told a news conference on Monday to promote the match at Havana’s 28,000-seat Pedro Marrero Stadium. “We see unhap-pily that there are a lot of political problems everywhere. But football brings people together. For me it’s a big responsibility,” said Pele, 74, whose real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento.

U.S.-Cuban relations have been hostile, particularly in the early 1960s when the United States orga-nized an invasion of Cuba by a force of Cuban exiles at the Bay of Pigs, and when Washington and Moscow nearly came to nuclear war over So-viet missiles stationed in Cuba.

Relations remained sour even after the fall of the Soviet Union until

last December, when U.S. President Barack Obama and Cuban President Raul Castro announced separately and simultaneously they would seek to improve ties.

Since then, the United States and Cuba have held bilateral talks in both capitals and the two presidents have met face-to-face at a regional summit in Panama, moving them closer to restoring diplomatic rela-tions. “I hope this match will be one more step toward much better relations,” said Raul, 37, the former Real Madrid striker and Spain team captain who is the international star in today’s Cosmos.

The Cosmos became a sensa-tion in the 1970s when they signed Pele and other international stars to play in the North American Soccer League (NASL). The league folded in the 1980s and was re-established in late 2009 as the second tier of U.S. club football, below Major League Soccer (MLS).

Now the league hopes to make inroads into Cuba, where soccer is gaining on baseball as the country’s most popular sport. NASL Commis-sioner Bill Peterson said the match was a starting point to explore coop-eration with on player development, coaching and officiating. “Every-thing can be on the table and we’ll take it one step a time and manage the relationship carefully,” (rtr)

LONDON - England was look-ing increasingly isolated in its call for a boycott of soccer’s World Cup on Monday as a senior UEFA official cast doubt on the idea and the rest of Europe remained near-silent. Following Sepp Blatter’s re-election as FIFA president last week, the English Football Asso-ciation’s chairman Greg Dyke said his organisation would support any boycott led by the UEFA, the sport’s European federation.

However, Dyke stressed Eng-land would not stay away from the world’s most popular sporting event unilaterally, and the UEFA official said he preferred a different approach to handling the corrup-tion scandal at the global governing body. Requesting anonymity, the official cited the decision of newly-elected FIFA vice-president David Gill to quit almost immediately in protest at Blatter’s re-appointment.

“The Brits think (a boycott) is

the next step, but others - we saw it with what David Gill did - believe the best solution is to withdraw from FIFA,” he told Reuters. “It is more logical than a boycott because you boycott this one, the next one, but then what?”

Britain has been one of Blatter’s fiercest critics since England lost a bid to host the 2018 World Cup. It has stepped up the attacks since U.S. authorities charged nine soccer officials with corruption and Swiss prosecutors announced a criminal in-vestigation into FIFA votes to award the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and Qatar respectively.

It remained unclear how much pressure UEFA could exert for change at FIFA or whether its members could field teams at the World Cup if it separated from the global body. In England - the coun-try that invented the game but has hosted its premier event just once, in 1966, when it also won for the

only time - Dyke’s comments have drawn support.

The British government minister responsible for sport said all op-tions including a boycott should be considered, while Gill’s deci-sion received Royal approval from Prince William, who fronted the failed 2018 bid. But while British newspapers and TV bulletins con-tinued to run FIFA-related articles prominently and talk of a potential boycott, the rest of Europe appeared to have moved on.

The French Open tennis tourna-ment was the big sports news in France, despite the country’s two most powerful soccer officials sit-ting in opposite camps on the FIFA debate. While Platini, a fierce critic of Blatter, has led calls for Europe to go its own way, the head of the French federation Noel Le Graet voted for the 79-year-old Swiss for a fifth term, partly because of his country’s good relations with

FIFA since being granted the 2019 women’s World Cup.

“That is exactly the kind of problem that put FIFA to the state it is in right now,” the official said. “It is pure vote-catching: ‘Blatter gives me the women’s World Cup, I vote for him’.” UEFA is holding the emergency meeting on Saturday before the European Champions League final in Berlin, with its re-sponse to Blatter’s re-election the only item on the agenda.

Few European nations have made any official comment on supporting a boycott. The head of the Swedish FA Karl-Erik Nilsson told Reuters that boycotts were not normally the Swedish way, though he did say that nothing could be ruled out in “spe-cial and extreme circumstances.” “We will lick our wounds and come back with some smart suggestions and ideas to consider,” he said.

Even England’s British neighbour Northern Ireland sounded cautious

on the boycott idea. “It’s a bit early to consider nuclear options like that,” the Irish FA’s chief executive Patrick Nelson told the BBC.

Blatter himself appears con-vinced that England’s approach, and the arrests made by the U.S. FBI in Zurich last week, are not unrelated to failed bids to host the tournament.

“There are signs that cannot be ignored,” he said after his re-election. “The Americans were can-didates for the World Cup of 2022 and they lost. The English were the candidates for 2018 and they lost, so it was really the English media and the American movement.”

England’s bid was a disaster as, despite earning rave reviews for the technical aspects, it won only two votes of the 22 then available. The bid team subsequently complained about corruption in the process, only to be written off by Blatter as “bad losers.” (rtr)

ZURICH - FIFA denied on Tues-day that the top lieutenant of its

President, Sepp Blatter, or any other member its senior man-

agement made $10 million in bank transactions that are

central to a bribery investi-gation against the world

soccer body. Secretary general Je-rome Val -

cke had no role in the payments, w h i c h were autho-rised by the chairman of FIFA’s Finance Committee, it said in a state- ment.

The chairman of the committee at the time of the payments was Argen-tina’s Julio Grondona, who died last year. “Neither the Secretary General Jerome Valcke nor any other member of FIFA’s senior management were involved in the initiation, approval and implementation of the above project,” FIFA said.

As new questions arose in the FIFA

scandal, more officials were arrested, suspended or banned on Monday, and countries were weighing a World Cup boycott amid controversy over the re-election of Blatter on Friday. A source close to the investigation said on Monday that U.S. prosecutors believe Valcke made the $10 million bank transactions.

Valcke is described in an indictment filed in federal court in Brooklyn, New York, as an unidentified “high-ranking FIFA official” who in 2008 transferred the sum to another FIFA official, Jack Warner. Valcke’s alleged connection to the case was first reported by The New York Times. It said Valcke had written in an email to the newspaper that he neither had authorized the payment nor had the power to do so.

FIFA’s said in its statement that, in 2007, as part of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, the South African Government approved a $10 million project to sup-port the African diaspora in Caribbean countries.

FIFA was asked to process the

project’s funding by withholding $10 million from the local organising com-mittee’s (LOC) operational budget and using that to finance the diaspora legacy programme.

The South African Football As-sociation (SAFA) instructed FIFA that the legacy programme should be ad-ministered and implemented directly by the then President of CONCACAF, Jack Warner, “who should act as the fiduciary of the Diaspora Legacy Programme Fund of $10 million.” It added: “FIFA did not incur any costs ... (and) both the LOC and SAFA ad-hered to the necessary formalities for the budgetary amendment.”

Warner, a former FIFA vice presi-dent, is among 14 FIFA officials and corporate executives charged by the U.S. Department of Justice last Wednesday with running a criminal enterprise that involved more than $150 million in bribes. Warner left jail in Trinidad and Tobago on Thursday after he was granted bail, according to local media. (rtr)

Survivors Hamburg keep Bundesliga record with “crazy” win

BERLIN - Hamburg SV clung on to their time-honoured place in the Bundesliga once again after beating second-tier Karlsruhe 2-1 -- and 3-2 on aggregate -- after moments of extraordinary late drama in the second leg of their playoff on Monday. The three-times German champions, the only club never to have been relegated since the Bundesliga’s creation in 1963, were 1-0 down and on their way out with 90 minutes played at Karlsruhe until Chilean international Marcelo Diaz curled home a last-minute freekick to take the tie to extra time.

Hamburg, 16th in the 18-team Bundesliga the last two seasons, also needed a relegation playoff to stay up last season thanks to an away goal in a 1-1 draw at Greuther Fuerth in the second leg of the playoff after a goalless first leg in Hamburg.

Paderborn and Freiburg were relegated to the second division at the end of the sea-son last week while Ingolstadt and Darmstadt 98 secured promotion to the Bundesliga. (rtr)

PARiS - A cold chill circulated around Maria Sharapova as the title holder was frozen out of the French open on Monday but there was no stopping novak Djokovic and Rafa nadal from blazing a trail towards a scorching showdown.

(rtr)

South Korea’s rice industry is not part of the pact but trade in 70 percent of agricultural goods will be liberal-ized. (ap)

(afp)

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters the bloc’s reaction had been “difficult to understand”.

by Moscow in February last year.Russia annexed the Crimea peninsula from

Ukraine a month later, saying it must protect the rights of Russian-speakers there. It says the separatist uprising that followed in east Ukraine was provoked by fears over a threat to Russian-speakers from the new “illegitimate” authorities in Kiev.

(dwa)

Tabanan -After making a demonstration due to damaged road, villagers of Gadungan, East Selemadeg,

matter he has disseminated to each hamlet chief so as to be forwarded to residents.

(kmb24)

Page 6 Page 8NEW YORK — Bruce Jenner’s

transition is complete.

(ap)

Hundreds missing, many elderly tourists, after ship capsizes on China’s Yangtze

Survivors Hamburg keep Bundesliga record with “crazy” win

Based on the data of the Bangli Culture and Tourism Agency, cur-rently the existing tourism village reaches 22 objects. Seeing the amount, said Jamin, only some few are able to develop while the others are virtually not known by travelers. He pointed out that the knowledge of travelers on tourism village tends to refer to the Penglipuran and Pengotan traditional village, while the others have not been known yet. “Only some few tourism vil-lages have been known by travel-ers, while the others are virtually unknown,” he said.

He said further that so far the attention given by the government to tourism village is more focused

on quantity than on quality. Govern-ment intensively increases tourism village, but behind it the quality seems not to become a priority. Jamin added that to attract travelers the most important is to provide comfort and facilities of tourist ob-ject. Though the number of tourism village is minimal, with a maximal comfort and service will indirectly attract travelers to visit and on the way around. “The most important thing for tourism village is quality, not quantity. Maximize first an object and then establish another object,” he said.

What Jamin said is intended to avoid the collapse of the program having been designed. On the other

hand, he also criticized the exist-ing human resources at a number of tourism villages are considered inadequate because the knowledge on the attraction is not known well. Likewise, their language skill has not been maximal. He said that the interest of travelers to visit one of them is caused by human resource capabilities in explaining the ins and outs of the tourism village. Un-fortunately, this aspect has not got a serious concern. “Quality of human resources should also become a concern. They should know the ins and outs of the tourist attraction. By that way, travelers can make a visit,” he said.

Related to the lack of human resources to manage the tourism village is revealed by the head-man of Bayunggede, Kintamani, I Wayan Suarjaya. Enactment of the traditional village as tourism village cannot develop optimally so far. Furthermore, he explained that most management staff of the tourist at-traction has resigned because their income is insufficient to meet daily

needs. Previously, the management staff amounted to four people, but because of low income, they are no longer active. “Formerly, it was handled by a management, but due to inadequate income, they finally preferred to resign,” he said.

Suarjaya added that the lack of guidance and training to the resi-dents of Bayunggede village from the government related to tourism management becomes one of the causes of the slow development of the attraction. Only few local residents of Bayunggede are getting involved in tourism, while on the other hand the tourist attraction is necessary to be developed. “Only few people who know about tour-ism, so that it is required training and coaching,” he said.

He also mentioned that the envi-ronmental condition at Bayunggede village is already considered ad-equate for local tourism. However, due to lack of tourism promotion, this area cannot grow rapidly. “Our environment has continued to be arranged, but it’s just the matter of

promotion shortage,” he said.Jamin hoped that the local gov-

ernment can make a grand design responding to the emergence of some issues alleged to cause the lack of interest of travelers to visit the tourism villages, so that in the future they can increase the region-ally generated revenue when they can be well managed. The govern-ment must aggressively provide guidance for human resources, both in terms of language skill and management of tourist attraction. In addition, this program must be balanced with maximal promotion. “Coaching and promotion must be provided continuously so that this program can develop optimally,” he concluded. (kmb45)

Penglipuran Village in Bangli

BANgLI - The existence of tourism village denoting the government program of Bangli County is meant to increase the regionally generated revenue (PAD) is highlighted by a member of Commission II of the Bangli House, I Wayan Jamin, Sunday (May 31). So far, the management of a number of tourism vil-lages is considered less maximal. Seeing that condition, local government is required to pay serious attention to the programs that have been initiated several years ago.
