MADRID - Colombian pop star Shakira wants the press to leave her nearly two-year-old son with Spanish footballer Gerard Pique alone, she said in an interview published Sunday.

She shared the first public photograph of her first son Milan sleeping in Pique’s arms on the website of Unicef just days after he was born on January 22, 2013 along with a request that people donate to the UN children’s agency.

The multi-Grammy-winning singer, who is expecting her second child with Pique, has shared other pictures of Milan on social me-dia sites but in recent weeks she has declined to be photographed with her son.

“I liked being able to share with fans and the people who have always supported us the experience of being parents and the first months of my son’s life,” she told daily Spanish newspaper ABC.

“But now that Milan is growing and has stopped being a baby, I would prefer it if the press did not focus so much on him. I would like him to enjoy a normal childhood, as much as that is possible.”

Shakira, 37, and Pique, 27, met at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and went public with their relationship in early 2011.

“Milan still does not realise that Gerard and I are famous, because that is all he knows. He recognises us on television and in ads, he points and says “Mama! Papa!”, but does not know that other kids do not find the image of their parents on a toy box,” she said.

“Penguins of Madagascar” opened in second place with a chilly $25.8 million. The animated spin-off cen-ters on the penguin characters from DreamWorks Animation’s “Mada-gascar” franchise. “Penguins” fared better overseas, where the film earned an additional $36 million.

Disney’s animated romp “Big Hero 6” and Paramount’s space-time

saga “Interstellar” respectively held onto the third and fourth positions with $18.7 million and $15.8 million in their fourth weekend at the box office. The domestic total for “Big Hero 6” has ballooned to $167.2 million, while filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” is orbiting $147 million.

The Warner Bros. comedy sequel

“Horrible Bosses 2” with Jason Bate-man, Jason Sudeikis and Charlie Day reprising their roles from the original 2011 movie debuted in fifth place with $15.7 million.

Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for box office tracker Ren-trak, noted the overall box office was down 21 percent from last year when “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and “Frozen” dominated the box office.

“It was a situation where there was no way the box office could live up to the strength of the marketplace a year ago at Thanksgiving,” said Dergarabedian. “We had two unusu-ally strong films at the top last year that completely knocked it out of the park.”

“In discretion condition, police officers do not need to ask for approval to their superiors. Sim-ply apply the existing standard operating procedures, disable and immediately handcuff the culprit. If necessary to shoot in place, it must comply with procedures where there should be a warning shot, use blank bullet, rubber bullet and finally sharp bullet,” said Bali Police Chief in front of hundreds of police person-nel attending the rally at Police Headquarters on Sunday (Nov 30) in relation to the security of the 9th National Congress of Golkar Party.

The task of police was to maintain and sustain so that Bali

was truly secure and conducive. “Police ought to know politics, but should not be involved in politics. We will secure whatever happens. Police are given the task of enforcing the law, so that do not be afraid. I am prepared to take responsibility,” he said.

However, he still appealed to all personnel in order to remain professional in performing their duties so that police would not die incompetently due to the act of a group of people because a po-liceman was valued cheaply. “We educate police for seven months. One policeman was equal to 300 people. If dying incompetently, there will be no expression of gratitude. On that account, please

take care of your self-security as well as possible,” said Benny.

Related to the security of the Golkar Party National Congress, in addition to deploying troops, police chief also placed various special equipments in the area of the national congress, including water cannon and barbed wire. In addition, based on informa-tion in the field, hundreds of personnel had been stationed at location since Friday (Nov 28). The troops were joint personnel of the Bali Police, Denpasar Police and South Kuta Police. Security of the national congress was also backed up by military personnel and pecalang or customary village security guard. (kmb36)

Bali PostSEMARAPURA - Having been

stranded for five months on Karang-dadi Beach, Kusamba, the Gelis Rauh passenger vessel finally began to be cut into pieces. Such an effort was made to make it easier to move the wrecks from the coastline. The hull was immediately cut to pieces where the results were then sorted out between the ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

One of the laborers, Asmad, when met on Sunday (Nov 30) said the Gelis Rauh vessel had started to be cut to pieces since Saturday (Nov 29). A total of 30 laborers were de-ployed to clear the wreck, where 17 people were on duty to cut by using a welding tool. The remaining labor-ers transported the pieces to a secure place on land, precisely on the west of the dormant project building at the Kusamba fish landing base.

The laborers seemed to start do-ing the cutting against the outer hull from the top to the bottom at the north side of the vessel. Each piece of the results was directly transport-ed ashore. They took advantage of hundreds of large size gas tube con-nected to a cable and welding tools to cut the hull to small pieces. Another worker, Suryadi, said the workman-ship was estimated to take place for a month as long as there were no seri-ous constraints. He admitted to get

accustomed to doing similar work in Madura. As planned, the results of the cut would be recycled.

Another laborer, Sumadi, added if the wreck was forced to be cut to pieces for easy cleaning on the beach. The vessel in burned condi-tion and stranded on the beach was very difficult to be evacuated to the shipyard in Surabaya. The hull was estimated to have broken. Moreover, some parts of the vessel were already in ruined condition. The Gelis Rauh passenger vessel previously burned in the Lombok Strait on July 17 when crossing from Padangbai (Bali) to Lembar (Lombok) and this vessel once crossed to the water of Nusa Penida. However, after becoming a wreck, the Gelis Rauh vessel even got stranded in the dormant break-water project at the Kusamba fish landing base (PPI) at the night on July 18.

No fatalities were reported in the unfortunate incident. At that time, the Gelis Rauh passenger vessel carried dozens of vehicles and they entirely burned in the vessel. Those vehicles included 2 trailers, large-size truck (13), medium truck (8), small truck (1), small vehicle (1), mini truck (1), motorcycles (5) and other mixed goods weighing 275 tons. Of the 76 passengers aboard, they were mostly from West Nusa Tenggara. (kmb31)

In a novel study, scientists who peeked into the brains of people caught up in a good book emerged with maps of what a healthy brain does as it reads.

The research reported Wednes-day has implications for studying reading disorders or recovery from a stroke. The team from Carnegie Mellon University was pleasantly surprised that the experiment actu-ally worked.

Most neuroscientists pains-takingly have tracked how the brain processes a single word or sentence, looking for clues to lan-guage development or dyslexia by focusing on one aspect of reading at a time. But reading a story re-quires multiple systems working at once: recognizing how letters form a word, knowing the definitions and grammar, keeping up with the characters’ relationships and the plot twists.

Measuring all that activity is remarkable, said Georgetown University neuroscientist Guine-vere Eden, who helped pioneer brain-scanning studies of dyslexia but wasn’t involved in the new work.

“It offers a much richer way of thinking about the reading brain,” Eden said, calling the project “very clever and very exciting.”

CHERRY HILL, New Jersey — Scientists have discovered a new frog species in southern New Jersey that makes some un-froglike sounds.

The Atlantic Coast leopard frog groans and makes coughing noises rather than croaking sounds. The unfamiliar call attracted the notice of wildlife experts several years ago in Great Swamp Na-tional Wildlife Refuge in Morris County.

They photographed the frog and

concluded it wasn’t the northern leopard frog or southern leopard frog.

The Courier-Post of Cherry Hill reports a Rutgers University-led team recently identified the spe-cies in an online scientific journal. Experts say it shows that the state’s marshes and swamps are valuable to wildlife, even in urban or sub-urban areas.

The frog has been found along the Delaware River and bay, the Atlantic Ocean coastline, in the Meadowlands and New York’s Staten Island.

AMIENS, France - A limestone statuette of a shapely woman some 23,000 years old has been discov-ered in northern France in what ar-chaeologists Thursday described as an “exceptional” find.

Archaeologists stumbled on the Paleolithic-era sculpture during a dig in the summer in Amiens, the first such find in half a century.

“The discovery of this master-piece is exceptional and interna-tionally significant,” said Nicole Phoyu-Yedid, the head of cultural

affairs in the area, on showing the find to the media.

“We were expecting to find classical vestiges such as tooled flint or bones,” said archaeologist Clement Paris.

But on their second day of fieldwork, the team found a pile of limestone that included fragments which did not seem natural.

“That same night we carefully pieced together the 20-odd frag-ments and realised it was a female statuette,” he added.

Carbon-14 dating showed the statue to be 23,000 years old.

About 12 centimetres (4.7 inches) high, it shows a woman with big breasts and buttocks. The head and arms are less de-tailed.

“The fact that the sculpture is not totally realistic shows the intent was to produce a symbolic image of a woman linked to fe-cundity,” Paris said.

Around 100 such figures have been found in Europe, mostly in Russia and central Europe, including around 15 in France, most of them discovered in the southwest

Leila Wehbe, a Ph.D. student at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, talks about an experi-ment that used brain scans made in this brain-scanning MRI machine on campus, Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2014. Volunteers where scanned as each word of a chapter of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” was flashed for half a second onto a screen inside the machine. Images showing combinations of data and graphics were collected.

Reading Harry Potter gives clues to brain activity

Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Reading about Harry Potter’s adven-tures learning to fly his broomstick activates some of the same regions in the brain we use to perceive real people’s actions and intentions.

eight adult volunteers watched for nearly 45 minutes as each word of Chapter 9 of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” was flashed for half a second onto a screen inside the scanner.

Why that chapter? It has plenty of action and emotion as Harry swoops around on his broom, faces the bully Malfoy and later runs into a three-headed dog, but there’s not too much going on for scientists to track, said lead researcher Leila Wehbe, a Ph.D. student.

The research team analyzed the scans, second by second, and cre-ated a computerized model of brain activity involved with different reading processes. The research was published Wednesday by the journal PLoS One.

“For the first time in history, we can do things like have you read a story and watch where in your brain the neural activity is happening,” said senior author Tom Mitchell, director of Carn-egie Mellon’s Machine Learning Department. “Not just where are the neurons firing, but what in-formation is being coded by those different neurons.”

Wehbe had the idea to study reading a story rather than just words or phrases.

But parsing the brain activity took extraordinary effort. For ev-ery word, the researchers identified features — the number of letters,

the part of speech, if it was asso-ciated with a character or action or emotion or conversation. Then they used computer programming to analyze brain patterns associated with those features in every four-word stretch.

They spotted some complex interactions.

For example, the brain region that processes the characters’ point of view is the one we use

to perceive intentions behind real people’s actions, Wehbe said. A region that we use to visually inter-pret other people’s emotions helps decipher characters’ emotions.

That suggests we’re using pretty high-level brain functions, not just the semantic concepts but our pre-vious experiences, as we get lost in the story, she said.

A related study using faster brain-scanning techniques shows

that much of the neural activity is about the history of the story up to that point, rather than decipher-ing the current word, Mitchell added.

The team’s computer model can distinguish with 74 percent ac-curacy which of two text passages matches a pattern of neural activ-ity, he said, calling it a first step as researchers tease apart what the brain does when someone reads.

He said the arrangement of Pe-nelokan was carried out in keeping with the operation commencement of the Geopark Art Market early next year. Traders having been sell-ing for almost a year along the Jalan Raya Penelokan would be moved to the area behind the Geopark Art Market. Considering the area behind the Geopark Art Market remained to have the status as forest area, his party would make coordi-nation with the Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) while waiting for the approval from the Minister of Forestry.

“Later, we will invite the BKSDA. We will coordinate whether the area behind the Geopark Art Market can be used for traditional market. We want the area in front of the Geopark Art Market to look clean, while in the rear can be used,” he explained.

Gianyar admitted that the trigger

of the chaotic Penelokan all this time was the lack of land avail-ability. Since there was no land that could be used for the market, all this time the government was forced to give permission to traders to take advantage of public facilities. “If we are complying with the rules, we can raid them. But the government did not want to do so, but how to find a solution,” he said.

Meanwhile, since there had been no agreement on the standard rate of kiosk rental between the Bangli government and stall own-ers at Penelokan parking area, the regent claimed to still look for the best solution. Although the county government already made a meeting with the traders some time ago, they had not come to a decision, but Gi-anyar ensured that dozens of traders would move into the Geopark Art Market before January 1. One of the bird breeders getting involved in the Bali starling is I Ketut Gede Jiwa Artana from Bon-gan Kauh Kelodan hamlet. He has been involved in the Bali starling breeding business since last year. In fact, the Bali starling enthusiasts are quite a lot where in six months, he can sell up to 64 heads. On aver-age, a one-year old bird is sold for

IDR 6 million. “This bird is much demanded for its scarcity status,” said Artana.

Selling Bali starling is certainly not easy. It requires a breeding permit and a permit from the Ministry of Forestry when selling it. Even, when the generation of Bali starling is born, the breeder must submit its birth certificate in advance. According to Artana,

his party could only sell the Bali starling from the F3 or third gen-eration and so on. “The F1 and F2 generations may not be sold. Meanwhile, we have developed the F5 generation,” said Artana.

In addition to requiring permis-sion and certificate in the sale, the breeding of Bali starling was not easy. Artana had five parents of Bali starling and it was quite difficult to mate them. According to him, the native rare birds to Bali were very picky in determining their partner. If inappropriate, they could fight to bleed. The birds could lay up to five eggs. The reference stated that when mating with the nearest relative, the Bali starling would produce not-good offspring. But based on his experience so far, the Bali starling yielded from his breeding showed no abnormalities and still had characteristics as their parents.

Even though the market op-portunity was still open widely, Artana recognized that it required not a few capitals in the breed-ing of Bali starling. Other than a pair of parent of 1.5 years old was expensive reaching IDR 15 million, the breeding and selling also required a permit and took time. “So, before selling the birds,

they must be equipped with birth certificate and permit of sale first,” said Artana. (kmb24)

After student leaders told a big crowd rallying Sunday evening at the main protest site outside government headquarters that they would escalate their campaign, hundreds of protesters pushed past police lines on the other side of the complex from the protest site. They blocked traffic on a main road, but were stopped by police barricades from going down a side road to Chief Executive Leung Chun-Ying’s office.

The protesters, many wearing surgical masks, hard hats and safety goggles and chanting, “I want true democracy,” said they wanted to occupy the road to prevent Leung and other government officials from getting to work in the morning.

At one point, police charged the crowd, aggressively pushing dem-onstrators back with pepper spray and batons, after some protesters started pelting them with water bottles and other objects. Police later fell back, letting demonstrators re-occupy the road. At dawn, police charged again and cleared the pro-testers from some areas around the government headquarters.

Police Senior Superintendent

Tsui Wai-hung said 40 protest-ers had been arrested, adding that authorities would not let the road, a major thoroughfare, remain blocked. “We will open up this road,” Tsui told reporters. A gov-ernment statement said 11 police had been injured but didn’t give a total injury count.

“The government spokesman reiterated that society would not accept the illegal acts of violent radicals who repeatedly pushed police officers and charged their cordon lines during scuffles,” the statement read.

Protesters said they were taking action to force a response from Hong Kong’s government, which has made little effort to address their demands that it scrap a plan by China’s Communist leaders to use a panel of Beijing-friendly elites to screen candidates for Hong Kong’s leader in inaugural 2017 elections.

The government statement compared attempts to ignore the Beijing-dictated plan to “building castles in the air” and said it “would only delay the constitutional and democratic development of Hong Kong.”

MISSOULA, Montana — A Montana man prosecutors say shot and killed a German exchange student in his garage is scheduled to go to trial this week in a case that centers on whether he justifiably feared another home invasion after recently being burglarized. Markus Kaarma has pleaded not guilty to deliberate homicide in the April 27 death of Diren Dede, 17, of Hamburg. Jury selection is set to begin Monday, followed by argu-ments as early as Tuesday, the Missoulian newspaper reported.

Defense attorneys argue that Kaarma was protecting his home and family when he fired the shots into his garage. However, prosecu-tors say Kaarma deliberately tried to lure the

victim into his dark garage by leaving a purse out and keeping the garage doors partially open. Prosecutors say Kaarma was frustrated by recent burglaries at his house and set up motion sensors and video cameras to catch the thieves.

The night of the shooting, prosecu-tors claim, Kaarma was watching a video monitor and saw a dark figure in his garage. They say he grabbed his shotgun, exited the front door, turned to face the partially open garage door and fired four shots into the darkness.

A friend told police he was with Dede the night he was killed. Robby Pazmino, an Ecuadorean exchange student, said they were walking down the street, and he watched as Dede entered the garage.

HONG KONG — Pro-democracy protesters clashed with police Monday as they tried to surround Hong Kong government headquar-ters to revitalize their flagging movement for democratic reforms after camping out on the city’s streets for more than two months. Repeat-ing scenes that have become familiar since the movement began in late September, protesters carrying umbrellas — which have become symbols of the pro-democracy movement — battled police armed with pepper spray, batons and riot shields.

Panji village is the only village representing the Buleleng County as recipient of the Indepen-dent National Empowerment Program (PNPM) for village specifically providing a space for cre-ative community to show off their artistic talent. Previously, the Kelod Kauh hamlet had owned an art studio named the Panji Mesuriyak under direction of Ketut Ngurah Alit Maruta.

Since the selection of Panji village as one of the creative communities in 2013, approxi-mately 30 students and adults of the local vil-lage were involved in the art activities. One of the arts being encouraged was theater. The Panji Mesuriyak art studio had two groups of theater. Both groups dominantly played theatrical art featuring the theme of daily life to social issues at their village.

In the training session last week, this the-ater group performed a show entitled Anak Durhaka (Faithless Children). The show told story about a child named Wayan Gumbreg who did not comply with the advice of his father, Pan Pucung. Due to the influence of daily converse, Gumbreg having been inspired by modern lifestyle forced his father to sell his paddy field for the sake of indulging his

intention. On the contrary, the advice of his parents wishing him to study for the benefit of his future was not obeyed. Ultimately, Pan Pucung died because he could not help seeing the behavior of his son and considered to have failed in educating his son appropriately.

According to the player having the real name I Nyoman Lempung, the current con-verse of rural young generation could not be dammed due to rapid effect of the current globalization era. Not surprisingly, many parents were forced to indulge in the intention of their children and willing to sell their paddy fields or moors.

Increasing number of paddy fields or moors sold to housing developers seemingly had encouraged children to force their parents to sell land for the sake of present converse. “Through this theater, I’d like to pass a mes-sage that parents must diligently educate their children. At the same time, they must be able to maintain and use the paddy field and moors as capital to be further processed so that the proceeds could meet the needs of family and not always look for a shortcut to sell the land to entrepreneurs,” he said.

Prior to performing the theater, Lempung admitted not to find any difficulty because he himself had a good talent in drama since his teen-age. Even, he could master it properly in a single day with other players. Nevertheless, to make a better preparation and his group incidentally selected as the first creative community through the PNPM for village and getting assistance from the campus theater community named Cemara Angin from the University of Ganesha Education (Undiksha), Singaraja, Lempung was confident if the modern art he just knew could be mastered well. “Show time of our performance is short. Incidentally, we get the assistance from the PNPM and campus theater community of the Undiksha, so that we are not too difficult to work on this storyline,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Chief of Panji Mesuryak Art Studio, Ketut Ngurah Alit Maruta, accom-panied by the creative community volunteer Gede Ganseha said that since the Panji village was chosen as the creative community, many teenagers and adults were interested enough to participate in the art activities. By all means, this became one of the positive points because the willingness of villagers to utilize the artis-tic talent such as theater and other arts would be able to promote the village and the arts, particularly the theater could be better known and played by villagers. “Frankly, we did not suppose if many teenagers and adults at our village are interested in playing theater. To further optimize, we are looking forward to the assistance of the campus theater community of Undiksha which incidentally has the experts and quality drama players,” he said. (mud)

TABANAN - On entering rainy season, dengue cases apparently must be watched out. Even, the disease caused by viruses has begun to spread in Kediri, such as at Pangkung hamlet, Pandak village, Kediri. Some resi-dents showed the symptoms of dengue in the form of heat and they have been hospitalized at Dharma Kerti Hospital and Nyitdah Hospital.

When confirmed about the dengue widespread cases in Kediri area, the Division Head of the Tabanan Com-municable Disease Control and Envi-ronmental Sanitation (P2MPL), Wayan Triana Suryanata, justified there was a public report that Kediri residents were hospitalized and one resident died. However, only one patient from Pangkung hamlet was tested positive to dengue, while the others were only declared as the suspect. “Only one patient from Pangkung hamlet, Kediri, was declared positive to dengue by hos-pital, while others were still declared as suspect,” he said.

Triana added the suspect patient continued to experience the symptoms resembling to dengue, where one of which got a fever for more than three days. “But to ascertain the dengue, there should be a laboratory test and indication of a decrease in hemoglo-bin. If the hemoglobin is below 20, it can just be declared a dengue,” said Triana. Regarding the death case al-leged to have been caused by dengue, added Triana, the patient was from Pangkung hamlet. However, the pa-tient had not been tested positive to dengue and was still a suspect.

According to him, Kediri was one of the subdistricts in Tabanan having many cases of dengue. High popula-tion density and mobility was one of the causes. Even, some villages in Kediri potentially emerging dengue cases had previously been sprayed by using Ultra Low Volume (ULV) fogging machine before rainy season with the aim of eradicating the adult mosquitoes so that their proliferation in rainy season could be suppressed.

To follow up the positive dengue cases at Pangkung hamlet, according to him, the Tabanan Health Agency had held fogging. However, he said that fogging measure was not sufficient as it should be accompanied with the mosquito nest eradication (PSN) in their respective environment because fogging only served to kill adult mosquitoes. “To eradicate the dengue, the fogging measure must also be accompanied with the eradication of mosquito nests to kill the larvae,” said Triana. Hanging out at stall while enjoying godoh re-freshment and accompanied with coffee drink will make the afternoon ambience a wonderful moment. Moreover, in rainy season, this long flat refresh-ment can make the atmosphere intimate while chatting with friends. A few people also make it the menu served to guests.

Similarly, it is often presented by Balinese people when holding mutual assistance activities involving dozens or even hundreds of people. For farmers at villages, the godoh refreshment is usu-

ally used to retain hunger. At hotels, it is commonly presented to tourists served with milk and cheese, so that it becomes more palatable.

Indeed, the godoh sellers are now scattered on every street corner. However, choose them care-fully because it cannot be guaranteed if they are all tasty and made naturally, unlike the godoh at villages usually made without additives. It is very simple but making you addictive.

The ingredients in use are bananas, rice flour, whiting solution and salt. The type of banana commonly used is gegah banana or king banana in Bali and candi banana brought in from Java. How to prepare it? First of all, add some water to refined rice flour and then stir well until being blended and watery. Furthermore, give salt to taste and whiting.

Pour coconut oil into frying pan and pre-heat. Meanwhile, cut the banana lengthwise. Afterward, dip the banana into flour batter and fry until cooked and lightly browned. Then, take out and set aside. Now, it’s ready to serve.

An attendant of the local ar-chaeological site, Nengah Antok, when met he said there were two sarcophagi at Manikliyu village. In addition to the sarcophagi, the other ancient relics were also found at Manikliyu including a bronze kettledrum and glass-shard.

He said the antiquities were ini-tially found in the moor belonging to Nang Resik in 1997. At that time, Nang Resik did his daily farming activities, namely hoeing. When hoeing with a certain depth, he found sandstone fragments. After further hoeing the sandstone, it was seen increasingly more apparent.

People who knew the unique ob-jects then flocked to the land of Nang Resik. Furthermore, local community leader reported the discovery to the Education and Culture Agency. Since the objects were known to belong to ancient human relics, the Education and Culture Agency then delivered it to the Archeological Agency. “After the excavation, it was found two sarcophagi, a bronze kettledrum and some other graves,” he said.

According to the Archeological

Agency, the sarcophagi found in the moor of Nang Resik had the length of 2 meters and the height of 120 centimeters. Allegedly, they were used to keep a corpse of respected person of the region in the past. Meanwhile, the bronze kettledrum was found to contain beads alleged to become the funeral provisions.

Since the location of the object discovery was in the middle of the tangerine plantation owned by lo-cal resident, the bronze kettledrum was then temporarily stored by the archeological authority for security consideration. Meanwhile, the two sandstone sarcophagi and kettle-drum’s cover were still on the site.

Antok said that to protect the ar-chaeological heritages from damages, the archaeological authority then established a building resembling a wantilan to store the sarcophagi. The building measuring 10 x 11 meters was walled and equipped with a sim-ple door. It was made in such a way to protect them so that not everyone

could get into the building. All this time, many people put

offerings at the location of kettle-drum and sarcophagi discovery, es-pecially on full moon or new moon. It is done because people believe if the sarcophagi were formerly used to hold the corpse of prominent figures at their village. (ina)

NEW YORK — After a busy holiday weekend in shopping malls, millions of Americans are expected to log on and keep buying on the day called Cyber Monday.

The Monday after the Thanksgiving holiday has been the biggest online shop-ping day of the year since 2010. The day could take on added importance after a Thanksgiving weekend that saw fewer shoppers and lower spending than last year, according to some estimates.

Retailers have been pushing deals all month and particularly the past week, hoping to spur customers to spend. That may have taken away some spending from Thanksgiving weekend.

Research firm comScore expects people to spend about $2.5 billion on Cyber Monday.

There’s reason to think a lot of dollars are migrating online.

PayPal said its global mobile payment volume jumped 47 percent on Thanksgiv-ing Day compared with last year. Wal-Mart said it had more than 500 million page views on Thanksgiving, and eBay says it sold 2,000 iPad Air 2 tablets for $399 at a rate of one a second.

The name “Cyber Monday” was coined in 2005 by the National Retail Federation’s online arm, Shop.org, to encourage people to shop online. The name was also a nod to online shopping being done at work, where faster connections made it easier to browse, less of a factor now.

Cyber Monday comes after a weekend that saw 5.3 percent fewer shoppers and 11 percent less spending, according to esti-mates by the National Retail Federation.

“Online is nowhere near its maturity, so Cyber Monday should be big, with a lot of strength in the days leading up to it,” For-ester Research analyst Sucharita Mulpuru said. “More consumers are spending more shopping dollars online.”

She expects two spikes in online shop-ping: one during the long Thanksgiving weekend, including Cyber Monday, and one later in December when shipping deadlines to get items by Christmas start to hit.

Research firm comScore expects online sales to rise 16 percent to $61 billion dur-ing the November and December shopping season, up 16 percent from last year. Com-Score tracks U.S. online sales based on observed behavior of a representative U.S. consumer panel of 2 million Web users.

The National Retail Federation has fore-cast overall holiday sales will increase 4.1 percent to $616.9 billion in 2014.

US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for January delivery dipped $1.65 in afternoon Asian trading to $64.50, its lowest intraday level since July 2009.

Brent crude for January sank $1.76 to $68.39, to stay below the psychologically important $70 level. It had touched $67.90 earlier Monday, its lowest since February 2010.

“Negative actions in the oil market are continuing today. Investors see crude as re-maining vulnerable after last week’s OPEC announcement,” Michael McCarthy, chief market strategist at CMC Markets in Sydney, told AFP.

“We have not yet seen any piece of news or development that could trigger a bottom-ing-out phase in oil prices,” he added.

The unabated price plunge comes after the 12-nation Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) opted Thursday to keep its collective output ceiling at 30 million barrels per day, where it has stood for three years.

OPEC ignored calls for a cut that have grown as oversupply and weak demand have wiped more than a third off prices since June. Analysts warn of further falls to come.

“OPEC’s decision leaves demand and supply rebalancing to the market,” banking group ANZ said in a commentary.

The news dragged WTI down $7.54 in New York on Friday, compared with the settlement price on Wednesday, to end at $66.15 a barrel. US floor trading was closed

Thursday for the Thanksgiving holiday. Brent had settled at $70.15 on Friday,

down $2.43 from Thursday’s close. OPEC has come under pressure from its

poorer members, including Venezuela and Ecuador, to trim production as slumping prices have eaten into government revenues and raised fears over their economies.

But the group’s powerful Gulf members, led by kingpin Saudi Arabia, resisted the calls unless they are guaranteed market share -- particularly in the United States, where rising production of shale oil has contributed to the global glut.

McCarthy said weak Chinese manufactur-ing data early Monday was “doing nothing to help oil prices”.

The official purchasing managers’ index for the manufacturing sector in the world’s second-biggest economy skidded to an eight-month low of 50.3 in November, from 50.8 in October.

It was the weakest reading since a similar 50.3 reading in March.

The 30-percent increase in the price of diesel and petrol, an-nounced last month, was aimed at cutting government subsidies that gobble up a huge chunk of the state budget and have sparked investor alarm.

But, as expected, the move caused an immediate spike in the cost of transportation as well as basic goods, which are now more expensive to deliver.

November inflation surged to 6.23 percent year on year from 4.83 percent in October, official data from the statistics agency showed. Economists expect inflation to rise further in coming weeks but then drop back next year.

The fuel price hike also contrib-

uted to a slowdown in manufactur-ing activity, which had already been weakening in recent months due to falling demand, HSBC said in its Purchasing Managers’ Index for Indonesia.

The gauge fell to 48.0 in Novem-ber from 49.02 in October, the low-est reading since the introduction of the measure in 2001. A reading be-low 50 indicates contraction, while anything above signals growing.

“The hike in subsidised fuel prices may have exacerbated things, though we note that both domestic and external demand were already moderating even before the hike,” said HSBC economist Su Sian Lim.

On a more positive note, official

data released Monday showed In-donesia’s trade balance swung to a small surplus of $20 million in Oc-tober from a $270 million deficit the previous month as a fall in oil prices cut the country’s import bills.

Economists have long been calling for Indonesia to reduce its generous fuel subsidies as they are blamed for a widening current ac-count deficit, although attempts to cut them are often met with public anger.

President Joko Widodo, who took office last month, made re-ducing the payouts a key election pledge, and has vowed to divert the money to overhauling the country’s creaking infrastructure and pro-grammes to help the poor.

JAKARTA - The Indonesian De-fense Forces (TNI) is organizing a joint ‘Tri Matra IX’ 2014 terrorist exercise in efforts to anticipate terror threats, such as those from the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

“The ISIS is a potential threat to us and, in real terms, we have not yet faced real actions by ISIS in the field. If we do not prepare and anticipate it, the potential ISIS actions could serve as a real threat,” TNI Com-mander General Moeldoko said, after launching the military exercise here on Monday.

He added that threats could be defined in three categories, factual, potential and residual. Factual threats are those which are being faced, while potential threats are threats which will emerge as factual threats, if not well handled. In the meantime, residual threats are threatening problems that have not been resolved.

The TNI commander noted that ISIS has become a threat of interna-

tional concern, as it is not difficult for people in various countries to join this international terrorist movement.

Indonesia, which has been infil-trated by ISIS, has a responsibility to prevent the organization from de-veloping.

“Indonesia is a country which must share its responsibility for maintaining security in the Asia Pacific region,” he said.

He added that terrorism underwent a change in its model and the TNI should not remain static, but must adjust itself to the working patterns of terrorism, and should also make changes now.

“The special forces must be able to maneuver in high risk areas in order to face a real threat. Your are trained for facing a condition which is most critical. Thus, security aspects must receive very serious attention,” Gen. Moledoko told the drill participants.

The military exercise is being held at Halim Perdanakusuma, East Jakar-ta, and at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport from December 1-5, 2014.

AntaraJAKARTA - The Indonesian

Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) expressed hope that Indonesia will become a world fish processing center in line with the world maritime axis concept proposed by President Joko Widodo.

“We are optimistic that by turning Indonesia into a world fish processing center, its exports will increase from US$4.1 billion in 2013 to US$40 billion in 2019,” Kadin chairman for marine affairs and fisheries Yugi Prayanto said on Monday.

Yogi urged the government to take immediate steps to transform Indone-sia into a world fish processing center, considering that Indonesia’s fisheries sector has great potential.

He remarked that the govern-ment should take several important measures such as standardizing all fisheries products so that they can be officially registered at regional and international levels.

Besides that, the government should also begin world fish process-ing in Indonesia based on its standard-ized procedures.

“It will be the same as establishing Starbucks or McDonald’s in Indonesia because the quality of products in these international food chains is the same as that in the United States,” Yogi pointed out, adding that Indonesia could thus develop a world fisheries processing center.

The Kadin deputy general chair-man cited that the world fish process-ing center could also involve other countries, for instance by importing salmon from Australia and Norway and processing it in Indonesia.

According to Yogi, this will greatly benefit Indonesia as the country’s labor cost has been relatively lower than that in other fish-producing countries.

This will also encourage the gov-ernment to develop skilled local man-power, which will be able to compete with workers from other countries, besides encouraging national banks to increase their investments in process-ing industries.

“The materials that come from overseas can be processed into fin-ished, ready-to-serve products that can be further exported to advanced countries,” he stated.

Inflation up, manufacturing hit after fuel price hikeAgence France-Presse

JAKARTA - Indonesia’s inflation rate jumped and manufacturing activity sank to a record low after the country’s new president raised the price of fuel in Southeast Asia’s top economy, data showed Monday.

Abe dissolved the lower house of parliament on Nov. 20 and called the snap polls, seeking a renewed public mandate for his economic policies. He’s por-traying the Dec. 14 elections as a referendum on his economic revitalization policies, known as Abenomics, and the postpone-ment of a tax hike — from the current 8 percent to 10 percent — that had been set for next October.

The dissolution of the lower house is largely seen as an at-tempt by Abe to clean his Cabi-net, which has faced a series of financial scandals since a Sep-

tember reshuffle, and prolong his rule for another four years.

Abe said during the debate that the economy and employment have improved since he took of-fice two years ago and vowed to continue with Abenomics, despite criticism from most opposition leaders that the measures have largely benefited big businesses and ignored consumers. “We are only halfway through, but this is the only way,” Abe said.

Abe’s ruling Liberal Demo-cratic Party, which has been in power for most of the post-World War II era, may lose some seats in the elections, but is likely to

retain a solid majority with its coalition partner in the 475-seat lower house.

After a three-year rule by the main rival Democratic Party of Japan ended two years ago, the Japanese opposition has largely shrunk and divided into fringe groups. Some of the parties are starting to cooperate to win back seats from the ruling bloc’s overwhelming majority, and are trying to focus on issues such as nuclear energy and defense. But recent polls show voters are mainly interested in the economy and jobs, issues that Abe’s party wants them to focus on.

CHISINAU, Moldova — Partial results from elections in Moldova show parties that want to move closer to Europe leading those that favor returning into Moscow’s sphere of influence. Sunday’s par-liamentary election has taken on wider significance with the unrest in neighboring Ukraine. Moldova, like Ukraine, has a pro-Russia separatist region in its east.

With 87.7 percent of the vote counted early Monday, the pro-Europe parties were ahead with about 44.4 percent, with 39.5 percent for the two pro-Russia parties. Parties need to get at least 6 percent to gain seats in the 101-member Parliament. The surprise leader was the strongly pro-Russia Socialists’ Party, which was in first place with 21.6 percent.

The Liberal Democrat Party, which wants to join the European Union, was in second place. “Moldova must remain an independent state and not a vassal state,” party leader Vlad Filat said, alluding to Russia.

Analysts say the Socialists scored much better than predicted because a day before the elections, the country’s top court banned another pro-Russian party, Patria, from competing on the grounds it illegally received foreign funding. Its supporters likely switched to the Patria party.

SEOUL — Rescuers were searching for 52 people who were miss-ing Monday after a South Korean fishing boat sank in the Bering Sea, an official said. At least one person died.

Authorities rescued seven crew members and recovered one body, but weather and water conditions were complicating the search for the others, the official, from the South Korean fisheries and oceans ministry, said on condition of anonymity because of office rules.

The crew included 35 Indonesians, 13 Filipinos, 11 South Koreans and one Russian inspector.

The foreign ministry said it asked Russian officials to work quickly to rescue the other crew members. Calls to the ship’s owner weren’t immediately returned.

Kyle Lowry had 29 points, nine assists and six rebounds for Toronto before fouling out with 2.8 seconds left in overtime. Terrence Ross had 20 points and Lou Williams added 19 off the bench for the Raptors, whose 13-3 record entering the game was the best start in franchise history.

Danny Green scored 18 points for San Antonio and coach Gregg Popovich returned from a two-game absence to lead the Spurs over the Boston Celtics 111-89 for their seventh straight victory. Popovich returned for the opener of a four-game trip after missing two games

following an undisclosed minor medical procedure.

Leading 80-77 with 10 minutes left, the Spurs went on a 14-2 run to take a 94-79 lead with 6:11 left on a layup by Cory Joseph. After Jeff Green made a free throw for Boston, cutting the lead to 94-80, Aron Baynes beat the 24-second clock with a 3-pointer then made a layup for a 99-80 lead with 4:36 to go.

Boris Diaw had 15 points and Tim Duncan added 14 for the Spurs. Chicago’s Jimmy Butler had 26 points and Pau Gasol had 25 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Bulla

past the Brooklyn Nets 102-84. Rookie Bojan Bogdanovic led the Nets with 13 points and reserve Jarret Jack added 12.

Derrick Rose had 14 points and reserve Nikola Mirotic chipped in 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Bulls. The Golden State Warriors downed the Detroit Pistons 104-93 for its ninth straight victory after Draymond Green scored 20 points and Stephen Curry added 16 points and 10 assists, while Zach Randolph had 22 points and 12 rebounds, and Marc Gasol added 18 points and six rebounds as the Memphis Grizzlies beat the Sacramento Kings 97-85.

In other games, Dwyane Wade returned from a seven-game ab-sence to score 27 points as the Miami Heat beat the New York Knicks 86-79, the Orlando Magic defeated the Phoenix Suns 93-90 and the Portland Trail Blazers were 107-93 winners over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Big strides for Moto3 graduate Jack Miller, rapid Ducati times and the debut of Aprilia’s new engine featured as MotoGP teams rounded off 2014 at Jerez and Sepang this week. While the ma-jority of outfits wrapped up their running the official tests after the Valencia Grand Prix earlier this month, Gresini Aprilia, Ducati, Suzuki, Avintia and Forward joined World Superbike teams to run at Jerez on various days from Tuesday to Thursday.

LCR’s rookie Miller rode in Malaysia, where newly-appointed factory Honda test rider Hiroshi Aoyama was also in action, from Wednesday to Friday.

Miller completed 120 laps across the three days, with the only incident a small crash on Friday morning. His best time was a 2m02.9s on the final day. “In general I was really happy with how the bike went,” said the 19-year-old. “Every time I get on it I feel more and more comfortable, and that means I’m getting faster and faster.”

Factory Ducati Andrea Doviz-ioso and Andrea Iannone regis-tered the fastest laptimes pub-lished by the MotoGP squads present in Spain, a second clear of Suzuki’s Aleix Espargaro.

The Spaniard’s Moto2 gradu-ate team-mate Maverick Vinales’s test was disrupted by mechanical problems and his best time was six tenths slower. Dovizioso’s 1m38.9s on Wednesday was a new record for Ducati at the Span-ish Grand Prix venue.

“Even though I don’t put a lot of importance on these days be-cause many of our rivals were not here, it still gives you a lot of plea-sure,” he said. “We were quick all day on used, hard and soft tyres, so this is even more confirmation that the bike has improved since mid-season. “We went better than what we did at Jerez in the race.”

Aprilia brought its new pneu-matic-valve V4 engine for Gres-ini’s three days of running with Alvaro Bautista and returnee Marco Melandri. “It has a lot of power but there is still a lot of work to do in terms of distributing it,” said Bautista of the engine. Bautista was 1.7s off the Ducatis’ pace, with Melandri nine tenths further back.

“The new engine had a few growing pains, which is normal in this phase, but we have already seen what its positive sides are and where we will need to concen-trate on improving it,” Melandri added.

TABANAN - Pinge hamlet has a very beautiful natural panorama. The air is cool and comfortable as being free from pollution. Along the country road leading to the hamlet, we can see the neat courtyard, while the neigh-borhood is clean enough. Each telajakan (public area) is planted with flowers so that butterflies and birds can play and dance intimately in a peaceful rural atmosphere. Afternoon atmosphere will be comfortable. Small animals such as dog-day cicadas give a nuance of beautiful vil-lage. ‘Arrogant’ crows of roosters make our journey more comfortable. Then, familiar smile of the locals leads us to a convenient ambience to be here.

Pinge hamlet is about 1 km from the center of Tua vil-lage office, about 8 km from the Marga subdistrict town or 18 km from Tabanan town. The village is located at an altitude of 500-750 meters above sea level with a relatively flat topography and fertile land suitable for farming rice and vegetables. It has a number of unique cultural potential. There is Natar Jemeng temple that stores some objects of the archaeological heritage in the form of Ganesha statue, lingam-yoni and Kiranti with the status as cultural heritage. At this hamlet lie some temples such as the Subak Pinge temple, Puseh temple, Penataran temple, Melanting temple and Dalem temple. This reflects if the hamlet has had high civilization. It is said, the Jemeng temple was the origin of Pinge hamlet.

House of local residents is built in a row facing the road, where each is restricted by a compound wall and angkul-angkul (traditional gates). On average, each house com-pound has some buildings such as the bale daja (northern pavilion), bale dangin (eastern pavilion) and other build-ings that have function associated with the local traditions and customs. Another unique element is that each house compound has a connecting door to adjacent neighbor. It is intended to maintain the familial relationship and togetherness. On that account, it is natural if Pinge hamlet was named the second winner in the Balinese Customary Village Competition in 1982 and third winner in 2006.

Bruno Peres’ wonder goal had looked set to end the Bianconeri’s 24-match winning streak at Juventus Stadium in Turin, after he ran almost the entire length of the pitch before leveling with a delightful finish to cancel out Arturo Vidal’s penalty. Juventus defender Stephan Lichtsteiner was sent off 12 minutes from time for two yellow cards.

Gervinho, Jose Holebas and Miralem Pjanic (two) scored for Roma, which was twice pegged back with goals from Andrea Ranocchia and former striker Pablo Osvaldo. They were the first league goals Roma has conceded at home all season.

Earlier, Genoa moved provisionally into third place as it cruised to a 3-0 win at Ces-ena, while AC Milan earned a 2-0 victory at home to Udinese in a match which saw both teams reduced to 10 men.

Sampdoria hosts Napoli Monday. Else-where, Mario Gomez broke his eight-month scoring drought to help Fiorentina beat Ca-gliari 4-0. Bottom club Parma moved further into trouble after losing 2-1 at Palermo, while

Empoli drew 0-0 against Atalanta.Juventus was just one game away from

a perfect November and matters seemed to be going according to plan when it took the lead in the 15th minute after Pirlo’s free kick came off Omar El Kaddouri’s arm. Vidal converted but had to retake because of en-croachment and the Chile international drove the ball into the opposite corner.

Torino hadn’t scored in the derby for 12 years and nine months, but it ended that re-cord in fantastic fashion in the 22nd minutes when Peres picked up the ball on the edge of his own area and raced 80 meters down the right flank before unleashing a spectacular shot which went in off the inside of the far post. Juventus snatched the win when Pirlo sent a 25-yard screamer into the bottom left corner with practically the last kick of the game.

BARCELONA, Spain — Sergio Busquets’ goal deep in injury time to give Barcelona a 1-0 win at Valencia that was overshadowed by a fan’s death following a violent clash between supporters of Atletico Madrid and Deport-ivo La Coruna on Sunday. Busquets blasted in a rebound to secure the victory at Mestalla Stadium

that kept Barcelona two points behind Span-

ish league leader Real Madrid.Third-place Atletico pre-

vailed 2-0 over Deportivo after Madrid’s Clinico San Carlos hospital said a man died of injuries sustained after a fight that erupted between rival groups Sunday morning near its Vicente Calderon stadium. The man was identified only as a 43-year-old Deportivo fan.

Sevilla moved ahead of Valencia into fourth place and Spain’s last Champions League spot after rout-ing visitors Granada 5-1, with striker Carlos Bacca leading the way with two goals.

Lionel Messi started Barcelona’s game-clinching move with a lobbed pass that Neymar header powerfully at goalkeeper Diego Alves, who did

well to turn back the ball only for Busquets to drill it right back past him. “We were lucky in the last minute to grab the three points,” said Busquets. “A draw is never enough and we had to try until the very end.”

Messi appeared to be hit in the head by a water bottle thrown from the stands while his teammates piled on top of one another to celebrate the winning goal. The Argentine rubbed his head following the incident but appeared to be unhurt.

Barcelona would never have been in position to press for the victory were it not for Gerard Pique clear-ing Rodrigo Moreno’s shot from the goalline before goalie Claudio Bravo saved one-on-one situations against Sofiane Feghouli and Alvaro Negredo in the second half. In the capital, authorities said the man who later died in hospital was initially retrieved from Madrid’s Manzanares River where the street fight between fans started at 0800 GMT. The game started as scheduled three hours later.

Police said they had made 24 ar-rests among four radical groups linked to football clubs. The man died shortly after the match ended, and the public announcer asked Deportivo’s traveling fans to remain seated after the final whistle. “Today is one of the saddest for Spanish football in recent years. It has been despicable,” said Deportivo coach Victor Fernandez. Atletico said in a statement that it condemned the

violence.“We want to make clear that we had

nothing at all to do with these events,” said Atletico president Enrique Cer-ezo, adding “we always seek peace” between clubs. In the match, Saul Niguez headed Atletico in front in the 43rd, turning in a free kick flicked on by striker Mario Mandzukic, who had hit the post earlier.

Midfielder Arda Turan sealed the points in the 55th with a long-distance strike that glanced off a defender and went into the net. Sevilla had little trouble keeping Granada winless in nine straight rounds. Bacca scrambled in a ball which Granada goalkeeper Roberto Fernandez had spilled under duress to put Sevilla on its way in the 24th. Granada’s Youssef El Arabi leveled from the penalty spot in the 42nd after Stephane Mbia had handled the ball.

But Ever Banega scored seconds after hitting the bar to restore the hosts’ advantage in the 60th before Bacca got his double in the 79th. Mbia hit two minutes from time before Kevin Gameiro polished off the rout in stoppage time. Granada was left one point above relegation-threatened Deportivo.

Villarreal also kept Cordoba win-less and stuck at the foot of the table with an easy 2-0 victory on the road as it rose into sixth place. Striker Luciano Vietto hit in the 24th and substitute Ikechuwku Uche added a second in the 71st.

MANILA — FIFA president Sepp Blatter responded to the latest criticism of the World Cup bidding process by assuring Asian football delegates that the tournament will go ahead in Qatar in 2022. “Believe me, with all what has been said, what is told around the world, by whom? By those ... not involved exactly (with) what has happened or what happens in football,” he said. “The World Cup 2022 will be played in Qatar.”

Blatter made his latest remarks about the World Cup during a speech at the Asian Football Confederation’s 60th anniversary cel-ebrations in Manila late Sunday.

Allegations of bribery and favor-seeking have engulfed world football in the four years since Russia was awarded the 2018 World Cup and Qatar was selected as host for 2022.

The Swiss attorney general has already received a criminal com-plaint from FIFA against possible law-breaking by unnamed individu-als mentioned in American attorney Michael Garcia’s investigation into the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bidding process, and the British government is considering launching a criminal investigation.

Although the Swiss authorities have a full copy of the bid probe, the 430-page report into impropriety remains secret, with only a 42-page summary judgment from FIFA ethics judge Joachim Eckert having been published.

Eckert said there is not enough evidence to strip Russia of the 2018 World Cup or Qatar of the 2022 tournament, which were both awarded in a December 2010 vote by FIFA’s executive committee.

The sense of disarray at FIFA heightened when Garcia objected to Eckert’s interpretation of his investigative work, appealing to FIFA citing “numerous materially incomplete and erroneous representa-tions” of his work.

MADRID - The death of a De-portivo La Coruna fan in clashes between radical groups before their match at Atletico Madrid on Sunday has prompted calls for more to be done to combat so-called “ultras”. Francisco Javier Romero Taboada, 43, had to be pulled out of the freezing Manzanares river near Atletico’s Calderon stadium and suffered cardiac arrest, hypothermia and head injuries.

He died shortly after 2 pm local time (1300 GMT) after efforts to revive him failed. Trouble had flared around 9 am in what ap-peared to be an organised street battle between ultras tied to Atletico, Deportivo and Madrid-based clubs Rayo Vallecano and Alcorcon.

Police named the groups as Riazor Blues (Deportivo), Frente Atletico, Bukaneros (Rayo) and Alkor Hooligans (Alcorcon). The ultras, who typically have ex-treme right-wing political views,

have long been part of the Span-ish soccer landscape and most top-flight clubs treat them with varying degrees of tolerance.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are among those to have banned their ultras, called ‘Boixos Nois’ and ‘Ultras Sur’ respectively, from their stadiums, while members of the Frente Atletico are still toler-ated in the Calderon. “Football has wanted to look the other way for a long time now when faced with the cancer of the ultras,” Jose Samano wrote in daily El Pais on

Monday.“Their violence does not have

its roots in football but it is in football where they have found refuge and approval.” As Marca sports daily noted, Sunday’s trag-edy was not the first death linked to Atletico’s ultras.

In 1998, a Real Sociedad fan died after he was attacked near the Calderon and a Frente Atletico member was sentenced to 17 years in jail for the crime. “Spanish football must expel these brutes before it is too late,” Marca wrote

in an editorial on Monday.Writing in El Mundo, soccer

columnist Manuel Jabois de-scribed the relationship between clubs and ultras as like that be-tween a family and a wayward child. “The presence of violent groups in stadiums has a Freud-ian element that explains a lot of things in Spain,” Jabois wrote.

“It has to do with a generalised cowardice when it comes to rid-ding yourself of something unde-sirable who loves you or wants the same as you.”

MILAN — Andrea Pirlo scored deep into stoppage time as 10-man Juventus snatched a 2-1 win over To-rino in a derby match on Sunday, while Roma kept pace with the league leader with a 4-2 win over Inter Milan. “I followed the move, (Arturo) Vidal did well to see me, and I shot out of desperation right at the end,” Pirlo said. “It’s wonderful to win a derby at the last second.”

Villagers nearby also complain that the coal plant is damaging the local environment, and that stocks of fish, shrimp and green mussels have dwindled.

TOKYO — Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe largely deflected attacks on his management of the economy and other policies Monday as he faced off against leaders of six opposition parties in a debate on the eve of the start of official campaigning for this month’s elections. Instead of Abe’s opponents successfully poking holes in his policies during the two-hour debate, the event turned into an Abe news conference, with questions posed by both the debate’s participants and selected journalists largely for him.

Hamlet Hall of Kelod Kauh, Panji village, Sukasada subdistrict, looked different from usual days. Children, teenagers and old people suddenly thronged the place from the afternoon until night. All spectators really enjoyed the entertainment ranging from the typical art of angklung gamelan music of Panji village, modern dance by schoolchildren, theater to pantomime performed at that night. Although the building and facilities in use were relatively minimal, the audience was quite amused by the traditional and modern art performances and they could provide entertainment for villagers.

BANGLI - The Regent of Bangli, Made Gianyar, promised again to immediately make arrangement for the tourism area at Penelokan, Kintamani. Even, starting from January 1, 2015, the Penelokan area all this time occupied by groceries and street vendors was ascertained to be clean and orderly. “Effec-tive next January 1, Penelokan has already changed with new atmosphere,” said Made Gianyar, Sunday (Nov 30).

Bongan Tabanan develop Bali starling breedingfor commercial purposes.

(kmb24)

(kmb31)

“As the largest political party, Golkar must be able to maintain the solidness of its leaders and cadres in fighting for its mission and mission in the future,” Aburizal said.

He said that it was admitted that there was a political dynamics developing within the party, yet the party must maintain the solidness and unity of its cadres in its efforts

to create prosperity for the people.“The Golkar Party is always

ready to accept differences of opinion and prioritize the family hood spirit in seeking to resolve its internal problem,” he said in front of thousands of Golkar cadres com-ing from across the country.

He said that in recent days there had been differences of opinion

among Golkar leaders and cadres. There is even an attempt to deny the results of Golkar`s National Working Meeting held in Yogya-karta recently.

“One of the results of the na-tional working meeting is a recom-mendation to organize the congress. All in the meeting jointly agreed the holding of the congress this month,” Aburizal said.

Of late however, several senior leaders wanted to delay the con-gress or refuse the result of the Yogyakarta meeting by intending to organize the congress in 2015.

“But I am of the view that the congress should be held this month. The implementation of the congress is the result of the Yogyakarta meet-ing which decided that it should be held today (November 30),” the Golkar general chairman said.

But some did not agree the congress to be held this month, he said. They held a meeting and set up a Presidium of Golkar Saviors chaired by Agung Laksono. Yet all these are not based on the party`s internal rules (AD/ART).

“What the colleagues have done in setting up the Presidium is an

expression of their disagreement over the current congress. But all of those were illegal and were done as a form of pressure so that the con-gress is held next year,” he said.

Aburizal said that even though some disagreed with the congress to be held this month, yet he was deter-mined to carry out the Yogyakarta meeting results, namely to organize the congress on November 30, 2015.

“I have to thank provincial, district and municipal party leaders who can think clearly and did not support the presidium because it is illegal,” he said.
