T3—Week 3 July 31 2019
Genetic Testing Year 11 Biology students visited the Gene Technology Access Centre in Parkville where they were able to apply genetic knowledge in prenatal and predictive genetic testing. They also enjoyed learning how to perform genetic testing using Fluorescent In Situ Hybridisation (FISH) and learning from GTAC Scientist Mentor, Maria. - Miss Frew

The Challenge Year 9 students recently spent time in Melbourne CBD to participate in a workshop on Youth Homelessness run by the Salvation Army. Stories were shared with the students of young people just like them who, for various reasons, find themselves living on the streets. The organisers were overwhelmed by the generosity of the students as they donated care packages to be used for those in need.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,
gentleness and self-control.
Against such things there is no law.

Combined Schools Day of Worship Lunch Orders Year 3 to 6 - August 8 and Year 7 to 12 - August 9 REMINDER: The lunch order deadline is TOMORROW. The menu and order forms were sent home with Year 3 to 6 students last week. Secondary students may obtain their order forms from Mrs Anderson. Please return individual orders with payment to the Primary and Secondary reception before tomorrow, August 1st. Students who don’t wish to order will need to take a packed lunch and drink in a disposable bag.
ELC Bush Kinder Thomas loves Bush Kinder where he gets to cook marshmallows on the fire. There are always plenty of smiles from the Kinder kids when they are out in nature.
Kids 4 Cause Market Day The smell of pancakes and the excited bustle of students with sweets and treats filled the Multi-Purpose Centre on Monday for the annual Kids 4 Cause Market Day. The Year 6 students did an amazing job as entrepreneurs of their market stall, to turn their own resources and skills into a business. There were 12 stalls ranging from desserts, second-hand goods, drinks and carnival games. All profits are going to the Cancer Council and Melbourne City Mission, and teacher, Mrs Smith is pleased to announce that these donations will amount to nearly $1000! Give a Year 6 student a high five when you next see them for using their entrepre-neurial skills for service to others.
PB4L Values Awards (Primary) During the final Chapel program for Term 2, the following students were recognised for showing the value of COURAGE. Students: Fynn, Madison, Andrew, Ethan R., Billy, Skye, Hannah, Stella, Sebastian, Arthur, Imogen , Tori and Laura.
This week the Primary students are focusing on the value of MODERATION. Year 6 will lead out in Chapel on Friday and they would love to see families and friends attend.
Train yourself to find the blessing in everything.

ASV Basketball Tournament Tomorrow, two Primary student teams will be participating in a tournament against teams from four Adventist schools in the Melbourne area. Students and Secondary coaches are reminded to meet at the Primary at 8:30am sharp.
Year 3 & 4 Hooptime Two teams represented Edinburgh in the recent Junior
Hooptime competition. The Edinburgh Capitals, many
of whom have not played competition before, put in
an excellent effort and gained experience which will
benefit them in future competitions. The Edinburgh
Cannons played well as a team, winning two games,
drawing one and losing two which placed them 4th in
their division. Mrs Hassan would like to thank the Year
8 students (Aimee, Jorja, Jarvis and Ryan) who
stepped in for the Year 10 coaches who were
attending a Careers Expo.
Mountain Bike Racing Debut Four students in Year 8 signed up for the Victorian Interschool Cycling Series held at Lysterfield. There are some great tracks at Lysterfield Park and all the students really enjoyed their race, even if someone lost count of laps and finished before everyone else. Ethan turned out to be the best finisher on the day. Alex was unlucky to break a chain when he was in the first ten of 40 plus riders. Special thanks to Mr Drew Cummings for providing transport assistance. - Mr Brooks
Year 10 Futsal Champions The Year 10 girls played very well in the recent SEISS
Futsal Competition, winning their final with a score of
2 - nil.
The boys played extremely well also but missed out on
their final by a very small margin. Well done, teams.

Edinburgh Futsal Competition Report from Mr Brooks The futsal lunchtime competition was launched with Commissioner Joey reading the rules before a couple of close games were played last Wednesday. As captain, he needed to score an equaliser for his team in the final minute to salvage a draw with Team Riley. Tom had to score a similar captain’s goal late in the game to prevent a loss to Team Josh after Ben P had pinched the ball at mid-court and finished it himself. The tight games continued with Nathaniel and Kai putting Team Nate up by two, only to have Brodie and Naysa come back with a goal each. So after round one, the ladder is lying down, with everyone locked up on a draw each. It will be interesting to see whether the teams stay close together or start to spread out after the next few games on Thursday and Friday.
Basketball Academy Thinking about enrolling your child in an after school basketball program for Term 3? Are you enrolled to attend Edinburgh College Secondary Year 7 in 2020? If so, we have slashed the price on our Thursday after school Primary age program to $10 per session for the 7 weeks remaining. We also run a senior academy, girls included, on Thursday afternoons from 5:00pm-6:30pm which includes a 30 minute conditioning session. Both programs commenced last Thursday but it isn’t too late to join in. If you have friends outside of the Edinburgh College community, invite them to register as well.
