Making the most of today’s fair

If you’ve already researched the exhibitors on MyCareerHub then you’ve got a head start. If not, don’t worry, you can use this guide to help you work out which exhibitors to approach.

Top tips

• Before you approach a stand, prepare some questions and think about the main points you want an organisation to know about you.

• Aim to demonstrate a real interest in the company by using this opportunity to get insights and tips from the people working there. Try to avoid asking questions that can easily be answered on the website e.g. when deadlines are.

• Visit your top priority employer after you’ve talked with one or two others – this gives you a chance to warm up and build your confidence.

• Do ask for business cards, or get the name of the person you are speaking to. Later, in application forms or at interview, you can refer to the person and something interesting they said.

• Stop at one of the Reflection Areas (dotted around the exhibition area) to note down key points you’ve learnt from exhibitiors.

• Avoid walking around the fair in a large group. The exhibitor may not realise that you are interested in them, and you could miss out because your friends happen to be more talkative.

• Smile - enthusiasm is infectious! Be purposeful and confident, but also polite and courteous.

5
