Eddystone firm to receive $90 million from US Navy EDDYSTONE An Eddystone firm is being awarded a $90 million contract for shipboard support services to repair U.S. Navy ships by March 2018. Work is expected to begin on the contract this month, according to U.S. Naval officials. Delphinus Engineering Inc. was awarded the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity, cost-plus-fix- d-fee contract to provide engineering and technical services to support the Navy Modernization Program. The majority of the contract will be work completed for the U.S. Navy and 5 percent of it is for the government of Poland. There are also potential business arrangements for work with Greece, Australia and Taiwan. Delphinus staff directed inquiries to Roby Lentz, the company's vice president for business development, who refused to comment. Roxie Merritt of the Naval Surface Warfare Center's office in West Bethesda, Md., spoke about why the Delaware County business was chosen. "Delphinus was awarded this contract because their proposal was one that represented the best value to the government," she said. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division, Ship System Engineering Station in Philadelphia was the contracting activity. The Carderock Division is the Navy's research, engineering, modeling and test center for ships and ship systems. In Philadelphia, the facility has 1,700 employees working there and traveling around the world to create solutions to a variety of engineering problems. This site is the Navy's principal Test and Evaluation Station and In-Service Engineering Agent for all hull, mechanical and electrical ship systems and equipment. Merritt explained that the Philadelphia site can test and engineer the full range of shipboard systems and equipment from full-scale propulsion systems to digital controls and electric power systems.

Some of the other responsibilities of the site include machinery research and development; marinegas turbine systems; cargo/weapon elevators and vertical package conveyors; conditioned-basedmaintenance; ship survivability and damage control; shock and vibration; high and low pressure airsystems; undersea vehicle sail, antenna and deployed buoy systems; submarine life support systems;and air conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation systems.

Merritt said this particular contract is expected to employ more than 200 people.

Delphinus was founded in 1994 and has six officesaround the country, employing more than 300employees. Their customers come predominantly fromthe defense and federal sectors and their areas ofservice include information technology, marineengineering, marine services, facilities operations andmaintenance and business management.

Other companies that received awards for work on thiscontract included: $89 million for General Dynamics

Information Technology Inc.; $87 million for Q.E.D. Systems Inc.; $83 million for AMSEC LLC; $94million for BAE Systems Inc.; $94 million for Epsilon Systems Solutions Inc.; and $96 million for L3Unidyne.
