What is iNaturalist?“…provides a place to record and organize nature findings, meet other nature enthusiasts, and learn about the natural world. It encourages the participation of a wide variety of nature enthusiasts, including, but not exclusive to, hikers, hunters, birders, beach combers, mushroom foragers, park rangers, ecologists, and fishermen. Through connecting these different perceptions and expertise of the natural world, iNaturalist hopes to create extensive community awareness of local biodiversityand promote further exploration of local environments.”
What is Wild Spotter?“…to engage and empower citizen science volunteers to provide critical scientific support that will help better address the expanding threat of aquatic and terrestrial invasive species. Wild Spotter is a nationwide effort to complete a comprehensive map and survey of prioritized invasive species. This effort will be carried out through on-the-ground inventorying and mapping activities on America’s wild areas (e.g., National Forests, Wild & Scenic rivers, wilderness areas, and natural areas).
What’s Next for Wild Spotter
• Expand to all National Forests
• Include offline “visitor guide” maps• Include existing invasive species locations
• Expand to BLM lands in West – BLM Citizen Science grant pending
• Expand to other agencies
Bulk Data Triage
Utah Combine Points• 201,066 records
• If group in ~20 meter grid
• 25,129 pairs by species
