Jal
About 190 kilometres southof Tirana, Albania, betweenDhërmi andHimara (Himarë)in the hills above the coast, the small town of Vuno isn’treally on most people’stourist radar. Not, that is,unless they’re headed twokilometres away to two ofthe Albanian Riviera’s mostbeautiful waterside retreats:the Jal and Gjipe beaches.
Although not entirely devoid of tourist services – there are a few familyrun restaurants andguesthouses at Jal – they are still blissfully unspoiled by mass tourism. However, with a new mainroad to the southern Albanian coast nearing completion, some people are concerned that these localgems won’t be spared for much longer.

The nearby Canyon of Gjipe is situated in the lower part of the Gjipe Brook, between Vuno and Ilias, twovillages close to the Beach of Gjipe Gjipe. This canyon represents a narrow strait, created by the activity ofthe brook flowing through its narrow pass. It measures over 800m long, 1020m wide and possesses a fewshallow caves. The cracks on the cliffs make it very difficult to climb down the walls of the canyon withoutprofessional equipment. Climbing up and down the Gjipe Brook is very dangerous because of falling rocksand is inadvisable. The scenery is amazing and close by is the beach of Gjipe with clean sand and sea,

small caves and a rockyshore.
