General Description
The ECOSMART GIS series is composed of gas insulated Ring Main Units (RMUs) developed and manufactured in accordance with the following standards:
• IEC 62271 - 200 High-voltage switchgear and control gear - Part 200: AC metal-enclosed switchgear and control gear for rated voltages above 1kV and up to 52kV
• IEC 62271 - 100 High-voltage switchgear and control gear - Part 100: Alternating-current circuit-breakers
• IEC 62271 - 102 High-voltage switchgear and control gear - Part 102: Alternating current disconnectors and earthing switches
• IEC 62271 - 103 High-voltage switchgear and control gear - Part 103: Switches for rated voltages above 1kV up to 52kV
• IEC 62271 - 105 High-voltage switchgear and control gear - Part 105: Alternating current switch-fuse combinations for rated voltages above 1kV up to 52kV
• IEC 60255 - Measuring relays and protection equipment - Part 1: Common requirements• IEC 60529 - Degrees of protection provided by enclosures (IP Code)
ECOSMART GIS is a range of gas-insulated switchgear for medium voltage power distribution rated 12-24kV. It is available in compact and modular versions, both designed to accommodate many applications including:
• Transformer substations• Hospitals• Residential centers• Buildings• Mines• Data center protection• Industries• Renewable energy plants
The compactness of the Ring Main Units (RMUs) and the small dimensions of the modular range allow the ECOSMART GIS series to be easily installed in prefabricated substations, kiosk substations and wind towers. The gas technology allows the product an extended service life with reduced maintenance, even with severe climatic and altitude up to 1000 meters.
The operating mechanism is optional to install a low voltage box to contain the low voltage circuits as well as protection and measuring devices.
The panel bottom is closed by metal sheets equipped with grommets to enable the entry of medium voltage cables. Holes are provided in the structure’s corners to fix the panel to the floor. Dedicated metallic ducts are located on the side of the cable compartment to contain the auxiliary circuit wires.
All equipment installed inside the panel (switch disconnectors, circuit breakers and fuses) are removable to allow maintenance.

Medium Voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear for Secondary Distribution 7
The sealed stainless steel tank containing gas with a pressure of 0,4 bar at 20°C, ensures a high level of personnel safety, service reliability and reduced maintenance.
All items are front accessible including the operating mechanisms, vacuum circuit breakers, fuse holders and medium voltage cables. Mechanical interlocks are provided between the 3 positions switch-disconnector, the earth position, the vacuum circuit breaker and the cables compartment panels to permit operations only in safe conditions.
The line and earth contacts are driven by a 3 position operating mechanism with two different operating lever slots which are mechanically interlocked. On top of the vacuum circuit breaker function (CBS), a low voltage box can be installed to house the auxiliary circuits, measure instruments and to house the protection relays.
The bottom plates of the cables compartment are equipped with grommets to allow the medium voltage cables entry. Cable clamps are included to situate and maintain the medium voltage cables. Floor fastening holes are included on the bottom of both sides of the switchgear as well as in each corner of the switchgear support frame.
Extension Kits
All units can be ordered in a modular version to allow installation of additional units on both the left and right hand side.
This is accomplished through the use of extension kits positioned on the top or sides of the unit. The modular RMU type must be specified before the units go into production.
The modular version of the ECOSMART GIS product provides unique flexibility allowing a wide range of combinations to meet any application.
Steel Tank
The live parts including switch-disconnectors, earth switches, vacuum circuit breakers and power busbars are housed inside a stainless steel tank welded and insulated with gas. It is possible to combine up to five functions inside a single tank, to meet a wide variety of electrical configurations.
The gas insulated stainless steel tank is positioned on a support frame made of pre-galvanized metal sheets (Fe P02 G Z275 MA UNI EN10142) having 20/10mm of thickness. The operating mechanisms covers, as well as the cable compartment panels, are made of carbon steel metalsheet (P11) powder-painted grey RAL 7035 with degreasing and hot phosphate treatment with embossed finish (orange peel effect).
The ECOSMART GIS switchgear units have been designed to be maintenance free. The active parts of the switchgear are contained and sealed in a stainless steel tank filled with gas which allows compact dimensions compared to other insulation mediums. The gas can be easily recovered at the end of the product life through the filling valve positioned on the switchgear tank. The switchgear has been designed as a sealed pressure system as defined by IEC 62271-1.
