Welcome to the second edition of Eco Fashion Week (EFW) presented by AVEDA. This time we’re bringing you the latest responsible fashion and trends for the 2011 Autumn/Winter season.

After a successful fall show, it is our firm believe that Vancouver with its location on the West Coast is the perfect city to host Eco Fashion Week and we are extremely proud to be part of the City’s Green Action Plan: an initative to make Vancouver the greenest city in the world by 2020.

This season it is our mission is to increase awareness of the full cycle of fashion production, what we like to call the 4 r’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Refuse. It’s about being responsible and conscious about the way the design, production and distribution of your clothing and accessories are made.

EFW strives to inform and educate while providing a platform to discover eco conscious products to further the industry.

Thanks to all of our talented designers, speakers, partners, buyers and media, thank you for being open to the change and believing in us. You rock our worlds!

Our last words are going to our fabulous team! We are blessed to be surrounded by such amazing people that have the same mission as us, to be part of the change!

The City of Vancouver is once again proud to support Eco Fashion Week for the year 2011. Eco Fashion Week’s mission to position Vancouver as the global capital of eco-friendly and sustainable fashion, nicely aligns with the City of Vancouver’s goal to be the “World’s Greenest City” by 2020.

Our great city is the perfect location to host the exposition of responsible trends in fashion, to educate others about sustainable and ethical practices in the industry, and to explain the local, international and personal benefits from adopting these practices. The team at VEFW are talented, experienced and energetic and have a compelling vision and a global audience. The City of Vancouver is proud to be part of the change!

Year after year, Vancouver enjoys a worldwide reputation as being the world’s most livable city, which was reinforced again in the 2010 issue of The Economist. With one of the smallest carbon footprints of any city in North America, Vancouver’s economic strengths include: world-leading expertise in advanced energy technologies, green buildings, and a plethora of environmental services. by supporting Eco Fashion Week, the City of Vancouver is enhancing this economic growth, as well as providing a platform for the development of creative and new employment opportunities.

Eco Fashion Week is a bi-annual event, that follows perfectly with Vancouver’s other related objective of moving towards an environmentally sustainable economy, creating a hotbed for the development of “green” commerce and business innovation. It continues to be an honour for Vancouver to host Eco Fashion Week.

We’re thrilled to partner with Eco Fashion Week once again and inspire awareness around sustainable style. Aveda has a long relationship of working with fashion designers to reduce the environmental impact of their shows and it’s a natural step to support and promote eco-friendly fashion through Eco Fashion Week.

Especially exciting is that this event takes place in Vancouver, home to our new flagship Aveda Institute Vancouver. AIV is located in a National heritage property at 101-111 Water Street and incorporates a number of green design features. Vancouver is an exhilarating place to be right now in terms eco beauty, fashion, and design!

At Aveda, we are constantly striving to set an example for environmental leadership and responsibility. We keep asking, “Can we do this better and how?” It’s integral to our mission and we truly believe that beauty is as beauty Does.

Ray CivelloPrésident of AVEDA Canada

As the economic development agency for the City of Vancouver, the Vancouver Economic Development Commission (VEDC) is proud to support Vancouver Eco Fashion Week (VEFW) in their quest to position Vancouver as the international capital of eco-fashion. The City of Vancouver is now defining “green” for the future – as a business focus for growth. “Green Capital” is the City’s business brand for economic development and is part of a strategic effort for the City to take advantage of the shift in the global economy to address issues relating to Climate Change and other environmental challenges. Your efforts in helping Vancouver become the international hub of responsible and ecologically sustainable fashion is a strong contributor to our “Green Capital” strategy and will help Vancouver lead the world into the new “green economy” – a hub for green jobs and green economic development.

The VEDC believes that the Vancouver Eco-Fashion Week can grow into an international showcase event for our City and strengthen its position as the “Green Capital.” We wish the VEFW team all the best success in executing on its vision for this event and becoming a world-class destination event that is a “must-see” for the global fashion industry calendar.

Nicole bridger was born and raised in Vancouver, bC. She obtained her bAA in fashion design from Ryerson university in Toronto ON. She then went to London, uK to intern at Vivienne Westwood where she learned the art of sculpting fabric and returned with an understanding of doing more than just making clothes. bridger came back to Vancouver looking to learn some of the business side of things and paired up with the owner of Lululemon Athletica to co-create Oqoqo, a casual eco clothing line. She was then ready to put her design and business sides together to create her own label of socially conscious contemporary women’s wear, Nicole bridger.
