Decline of the Roman Empire Timeline Project For this project, your job will be to create an illustrated timeline that presents the process of the decline of the Roman Empire, showing the internal and external problem that contributed to the collapse, as well as the impact that the fall of Rome had in both the Western and Eastern halves of the once great Mediterranean power. This project will be aligned with your upcoming essay, which will cover the very same content, so having completed this project, writing your essay should feel much easier. The project will be due this WEDNESDAY, November 23 GENERAL DIRECTIONS • Before you begin working on the timeline, you must first prepare your content using the provided organizer to decide what events you will be including, to organize them in chronological order, and to collect any and all relevant details. • NUMBER ONE REMINDER! A timeline is NOT just a list of events in chronological order. The events are on a TIMELINE, which means everything must be PLOTTED accurately along the timeline, just like you would plot points on a number line. So, before beginning, you must look at all the dates you have and determine an appropriate start and end point for your timeline. It should give you a little excess on either end so you have room. You should first make marks at regular intervals (for example, every hundred years). Only when you have the line set up should you start plotting points. • PLOTTING EVENTS: Each event plotted on the timeline must include a o DOT, plotted as exactly as possible, on the line at the date of the event o BOX, above or below the line, with a DATE, NAME, and BRIEF DESCRIPTION of the event o LINE connecting the dot to the box o In a few cases, you may include date ranges rather than exact dates in order to include important trends and occurrences, which can be represented with two dots connected by a bar just slightly above or below the timeline • IMAGES: A minimum of TEN images are required o Corresponding to and illustrating the events on the timeline o Should be spread out nicely throughout the timeline o May be printed, but drawing is preferred o Color is required o In addition to images, other decorative elements are encouraged • MATERIALS: Timeline should be created on THREE sheets of regular-size paper, either computer paper or construction paper (NOT loose leaf or poster board) • You should include a title somewhere on the project • You should NOT staple or tape your project together, but you SHOULD use a paper clip
