THE Economic Freedom Fighters party has started selling itself to the South African voters butit does not have its own policies. Instead it cop

ied and pasted the ANCYL’s policies which are directlydrawn from the freedom charter. In simple terms, Floyd Shivambu and Julius Malema

stole ANC policies and made them their own. There is a lot I can say about Malema and his party

but the first obvious one is that he is not to be trustedby anyone; not even his close friends. Malema changes his mind like the Cape Town sky changes its weather.Who would forget when Malema stood in front of

the country through the media, he always excites, telling us that Thabo Mbeki was this country’s biggestproblem? Mbeki was cast by him, called him namesand made him an enemy of the people. Not even four years after that we were told by the

same man that Mbeki was the greatest man that everlived. He worshipped him and thanked him for whathe achieved in his administration simply because ofhis hate for Zuma.Zuma, the man he confessed his love for, was later

said to be the worst leader this country has ever hadand our biggest mistake; a man he (Malema) wasmade to believe by his friends and the media to haveput in power in the Polokwane.I simply cannot trust Malema because he changes

his mind like a child in a toystore. The media and some within the ANCYL during his

tenure made his head big. They made him believe thathe made Zuma. That he gave Zuma to us South Africans, making him our president. Thus he now throughthe same media that made his head big, apologisefor giving us Zuma.Malema did not give us Zuma. Zuma gave himself

to us the people. Zuma gave himself to South Africawhen he joined the ANC at the age of 16 and laterbecame an active member of the ANC’s armed wingUmkhonto Wesizwe at the age of 22.Zuma continued to hand himself to the ANC and

South Africa when he was arrested in 1963 and sentto Robben Island where he was to spend the following10 years. He selflessly reestablished ANC underground structures in Natal between 1974 and 1975.Zuma continued to hand himself to the ANC and

South Africa when he worked hand in hand withThabo Mbeki in Swaziland and Mozambique exiled bythe apartheid government later healing the woundsof the Soweto Uprising youth of 1976 that were takingrefuge in those countries in 1976.In the same year Zuma handed himself to the ANC

National Excecutive Committee. In 1980 Zuma further deepened his commitment to the organisationand headed the ANC’s Intelligence Department.Malema would later be born in 1981; 23 years afterJacob Zuma joined and worked for the ANC.

Malema’s contribution to the liberation strugglewould later be illegally taking down National Party(NP) posters in the 1994 elections. While he was taking down and tearing NP posters,

Zuma was working hand in hand with ANC leaderslike Nelson Mandela, Mbeki and Walter Sisulu in thenegotiations and the drafting of the South Africanconstitution. After the country’s first democratic election, when

Julius was only 14 years, Zuma became the ANC’schairperson in 1994 and MEC for Economic Affairs andTourism in KZN.To get to my point; Jacob Zuma did not need Julius

to get the presidency of the ANC and South Africangovernment. He has been working and earned enough credentialsto get these positions since he joined the ANC fromhis early age of 16.This point would later be proven fact in Mangaungwhen Zuma won with a landslide victory againstKgalema Montlante when Malema was history.Zuma is 100 times more than the man, leader and

strategist Malema is.I know, many of you will compare Zuma with Malema. You will ask: why complain about Malema in theGupta and Nkandla days?Government scandals happen everywhere; they happen in America, president Obama has his own scan

dals. They happen in UK, in China; all governmentshave their own scandals. We don’t want them, wehate them but they are there; they will always occur. One needs to ask themselves then how many scan

dals would occur if Malema would become a president.Malema’s decision to start a political party was notbased on moral or Freedom Charter grounds; it wasbased on his greed for power and money and his subliminal talks are a living testimony to this.Malemawastheonewhosaidhisbloodisgreen, blackand gold; that he will never leave the ANC. He wasthe one begging the delegate with letters in Mangaung to reconsider their decision to expel him. Heis the one who promised to change. But when his pleadid not work out and his life started to turn upsidedown he started realising that he is poor and powerless. In an interview on SAfm, Malema said if the ANC hadnot taken his farm after it took his house in Sandtonand his millions he would have stayed. Only ignorantpeople believe Malema when he says he left the ANCbecause its liberal and does not want to nationaliseth mines or because he was expelled.Malema, unlike Zuma, is young; he would have madehis way back to the ANC. Political parties are not likebusinesses, you don’t get fired and never come back.Leadership changes and so does the weather withinthe political party. He could have waited for his time;until when, I don’t know. I am sure Nelson Mandelatoo did not know how many years he would wait toget out prison. The same followers Malema has are the same he waslying to while he the ANCYL president. He went to thepeople and shouted that: “We are poor and hungry,we want Economic Freedom” when he was swimmingin millions. The Economic Freedom Fighters he is now calling foris the one he lost; he was a Sandton resident, drovetop class cars and wore only the finest.Malema was not hungry or poor like most of his followers were and still are; he had Economic Freedomand soon lost it.His friends like the former jailbird who, like him, wentmysteriously from being a pauper to be a millionaire,Kenny Kunene, will help him. We’ve already read opportunistic open letters trying

to persuade and kill the ANC’s image by KennyKunene. Again, the same media that inflated Malema’s head is doing the same to Kenny.Suddenly, he becomes a saint just few months after

he confessed to raping young girls and his desires tostart selling pornography.

I refuse to trust Malema because I can’t imagineSouth Africa with him as a president and KennyKunene his deputy.I don’t trust Julius because he would ruin all attemptsto Unite this country and turn us into another Zimbabwe; chasing white people away, chasing investorsaway, ruining our economy and turning this countrynot into a banana but into Kenny’s Sushi Nation. The ANC and EFF are fundamentally different. UnlikeEFF, the ANC is not owned by a person or a group ofpeople. It was not owned by Nelson Mandela whenhe was president and was not owned by Thabo Mbeki,it’s also not owned by Jacob Zuma, the people ownit.ANC leaders come and go but their support does notchange; it’s a different story with EFF. Malema, Floydand Kenny Kunene own it, not the people. It will taketheir directions not the people’s direction.Again, I simply refused a spineless man like Julius

Malema, who says EFF today and might say let’s goback to the ANC when the media frenzy fades awayand is dropped like Cope and UDP were.Trusting Malema for nationalisation is like trusting

or sending a rat to share cheese with cats. (NB I didnot say Malema is a rat).

How society promotes crimeRegan Jules-Macquet

NOWthat the latestcrimestatis-tics havebeen released, this isa good time for us to start ask-

ingourselvessomedifficult yethighlyrelevant questions.

We are all concerned about crimein South Africa.Wewish to be safe inour homes, in our workplaces and inour communities. We want our chil-dren to growup in a safer SouthAfri-ca. We want our crime preventionstrategies to yield better results.

Let us pause for a moment andconsiderwhatweexpect fromprison.Wewant perpetrators of crimes to becaught and effectively punished. Wealso want something to be done withthemso thatwhen they re-enter soci-ety,theyarelesslikelytocommitsimi-lar offences and victimise other peo-ple.

Whatroledoesprisonplayinthis?Dowe regardprison just as a punish-ment?Or is prison supposed to be re-

habilitative, as well as punitive? Doweexpectpeoplecomingoutofprisonto behave differently from how theybehaved before they were in prison? Why would we expect people whohave spent years in an overcrowded,under-resourced environment to be-have like solid upstanding citizenswhentheyarereleased?Isthisexpec-tation even rational?

What doweexpect people to do inprison while they wait out their sen-tence?Doweexpectthemtoworkandearn their keep? How do we expectthemtoworkwhenmostofthemhaveno skills or work experience? Do weexpect themtostudyandearnqualifi-cations that they can use when theyarereleased?Howcanweexpectpeo-ple who rarely have finished school, many of which can barely hold a pencorrectly, let alone read and write, toacquirequalifications?Andwhentherare few actually do earn a qualifica-

tion in prison, what do we expectthem to do with it when no one willhire thembecause they have a crimi-nal record?

Take the example of David. Davidwas convicted for armed robbery, avery serious offence. He was sen-tenced to prison and was paroled af-ter serving 12 years. During his timein prison, he earned a BA degree inpsychology and went on to completeanHonoursdegree.Hewishestopur-sue his studies so that he can findworkinhischosenfield.Hecannotdothisbecausehehasacriminalrecord.Sowemustaskourselvesthequestion– what was the point of David spend-ingall thoseyears studyingpsycholo-gy if, upon release, he cannot studyfurtherorpractice?Every timeheap-plies for anything, his record comesup and he is turned away.

No one is suggesting that the of-fence he committed is not serious.

mentonpeople thatgoeswaybeyondthe sentence. We are permanentlyblighting their lives, while expectingthem to turn over a new leaf.

Arewenotseriouslycontradictingourselves?

If we want to do something aboutthe crime rate in South Africa, weshould ask ourselves what prospectsand opportunities do offenders haveto lead different lives? The answeris...very poor prospects and hardlyany opportunities.

Let us look at another example.Harker is a youngmanwhowas con-victed forpossessionofmandraxanddagga seven years ago. He has sincemarriedandbecomeafather.Howev-er, he cannot find work because hehasarecord. Inhisownwords“Soforme because of my beliefs I try to staypositive, but still I would like somehelp fromyouguysaswell by fightingthis thing on my name.

“We are sittingwith young peoplewith a record like me, they try tochangebutoursystemisnotallowingthem to. Some of them go back to do-ing “darkness” because of this. Weneed help, it’s hard out there. Try tohelp.”

Take Max, who was convicted forpossessionofdagga: “Thishasaffect-ed my career and growth ever since. It is veryhard formetomove forwardin life because I amnot even called infor an interview when applying forjobs (work in the financial industry),pleaseassistme. Iwould love to enrol

in theprogrammeso I can furthermycareerasafinancialadvisor.Ihaveal-ready been rejected by Sanlam andother financial institutes because ofthis.”

WhenIraisedthisissuewithasen-ior member of the judiciary, he saidthat if people donotwant the punish-ment, they should not do the crime.Fair enough, but then we must beclear that we do not expect offenderstochangetheir lives.Wemustbehon-est and state that we expect them togo on committing crimes and victim-ising other people.Wemust stop thishalf-hearted business of mouthingwords like “social reintegration” and“restorative justice” and be honestabout the fact that, as a society, wedonotbelievepeoplecanchangeandweoffer no way out of a life of crime forpeople who have gone down thatroad. Because this is themessageweare sending anyway, although wepretend otherwise.

Itisnotjustthecrimestatisticsthatpeopleshouldbevocalabout. It isalsothe half-hearted and contradictoryway in which our society attempts toreintegrate offenders who wish tolead different lives. It is not just thecrime stats that need changing inSouth Africa. We really need to re-thinkpunishmentandrehabilitation.

*Regan Jules-Macquet is non-custodial sentencing project man-

ager at National Institute forCrime prevention and the Reinte-

gration of Offenders.

However, heserved12yearsand put thoseyears to gooduse. He wantsto lead a differ-ent life. But hecannotbecausesociety hasplaced innu-merable barri-ers in his way.On the onehand we say toDavid, turnyour lifearound andstay away fromcrime. At thesame time, wealso say to him, forget abouthaving dreamsofadifferent fu-ture becauseyou have arecord that willstay with youforlife.Ineffect,we are inflict-ing punish-

WHAT DO WE EXPECT PEOPLE TODO IN PRISON WHILE THEY WAITOUT THEIR SENTENCE? DO WE EX-PECT THEM TO WORK AND EARNTHEIR KEEP? HOW DO WE EXPECTTHEM TO WORK WHEN MOST OFTHEM HAVE NO SKILLS OR WORKEXPERIENCE?

JOURNEY TO RETIRING THE RIGHT WAY

L I F E | F U N E R A L | E D U C AT I O N | R E T I R E M E N T | H E A LT H | I N V E S T M E N T S

Metropolitan, a division of MMI Group Limited, an authorised financial services provider.

South Africans are living, on average, seven years longer.

This means that you will have to stretch your retirement

savings even further or delay your retirement. Wilfred Moyo,

Investment & Economic Strategist at Metropolitan explains the

steps to ensure a comfortable retirement.

1. Set your retirement goalBefore you start your journey, you can estimate how much

money you will need to save for retirement to maintain your

current standard of living. A pension equal to 60% to 75% of

the salary you are earning in the year before you retire will

be enough. For example, if your income before you retired is

R10 000, a pension of R7 000 should be enough to maintain

your lifestyle.

2. Find the best retirement savings optionYou can save for retirement in a retirement annuity

(RA), pension or preservation fund, savings plan or bank

account.A retirement annuity is designed for retirement

savingsandyougettaxbreaksaswell. Youcansaveasetamount

every month into your RA to build up a retirement fund. You can

also save a large single amount of money into your RA (i.e. you

can save R300 every month or R1 000 every three months).

3. Check your savings regularly against your retirement goalRetirement is a long-term saving goal. You need to check the retirement fund value against your

retirement goal. A qualified financial adviser can assist you by using the right financial tools. If

you are not savings enough to meet your target, you may have to increase your contribution to

your retirement fund. You can start by revising your monthly budget to cut down on unnecessary

spending. For example, eat less takeout food and prepare home-cooked meals.

4. Don’t be tempted to cash in your fund before retirementIt can be very tempting to dip into your retirement fund to help pay off debt now. If you are

retrenched or resign from your job, move your retirement money to a preservation fund or

another retirement product. If you cash out your retirement fund and spend the money,

you will have to save twice as much to make up for it.

5. Know your options when you retireAs you get closer to retirement, you need to start considering the details of the annuity

that you will purchase. An annuity is a policy where you will invest your retirement fund to

secure a regular pension.

At retirement, you will be faced with a number of annuity options, for example a living

annuity, joint life annuity, etc. This is a critical stage in your retirement journey. Your

financial adviser can explain each type of annuity along with the advantages and

disadvantages of each.

This important decision means the difference between making your retirement money last

and running out of money midway through retirement.

6. Shop around for competitive annuity ratesWhen choosing an annuity, compare the annuity rates offered by the various insurance

companies. The annuity rate is the rate of interest used to determine your monthly annuity

amount. The higher the annuity rate, the more pension you’ll receive. Try to aim for the

company that offers the best annuity rates.

Your financial partner before and at retirementWe can help with one of the biggest financial decisions that will impact the rest of your life.

THE one thing that we don’t under-stand is the amount of talentwehave inSA. I can’twait and I’m looking forwardto the SA Idol top five, said Mthethwa.

“Thiscountryhasgreat singerswiththe most incredible voices. From whatI’m seeing in this year’s competition, iyashisa (it’s really happening). I can’twait for the top fivewhere the guessingwill bemuch easier than it currently is.

“What Iwould like to seehappeningis for people to continue dreaming. Myparents use to ask me every morningwhat I dreamt about when I was sleep-ing. I didn’t understand that they wereinvoking in me to search for my dreamin life.

“Many people are discouraged byfear even if theyaregrantedopportuni-

Morton enjoysthe city of

CHOICECHOICENOMPENDULO NGUBANE>>[email protected]

He is 24 years old and he de-scribes himself as a very pas-sionate and driven person

whoisdedicatedtoanythingandeve-rything that he does.

His name is Michael Morton, thecaptain for the local PSL side,Maritz-burg United. He has played for ama-teur clubs such as Old Parks, Rand-burg FC, FC Juniors and Orlando Pi-rates’ Yebo Yes United. Theprofessional clubs he has played forbefore joining theTeamof Choice areOrlando Pirates and Bidvest Wits.

He always looks forward to play-ing games at home in front of theteam’s supporters. The Joburg-borndefender said the turn out and sup-portatHarryGwalastadiumisalwaysfantastic.

“You often see the same faces inthe crowd. Whether we are winningor losing, theyare there.Youcouldal-ways have more support, but I thinkthe turn out we get is one of the bestin the league,” said Morton.

“I started playing soccer when IwasfouryearsoldwhenIjoinedaclubcalled Old Parks and never lookedbacksincethen.Beingacaptainoftheclub is very humbling and a lot of re-sponsibility but I’m enjoying and rel-ishing the challenge. “I haven’t en-countered too many challenges as ofyet. Setting a good example at alltimesisabigresponsibilityandsome-thing I’m trying to do. I’m enjoyingevery moment, the ups and thedowns. I have really taken totown and met some greatpeople here. I love my timehere inMaritzburg and play-ing for this club,” he contin-ued. Morton joined Maritz-burg United in the2011/20112 season. Likeany other soccer player, hehas his highlights of the goodperformancestheymadeasateam.

“One of the highlightswere some of the good per-formances we put in againstteams like Mamelodi Sun-downsandKaizerChiefs andthe fact that we held a placein the top five for themajorityof the [last] season,” he reminisced.Morton advised that soccer is a verydifficult career to pursue and that ittakesa lotofdedicationanddriveandtons of sacrifice. “If you do choose topursue the career and are luckyenoughtobecomeaprofessionalfoot-baller one day, there is no better feel-ing then waking up in the morningknowing youare doingwhat you lovefor a living.

Tshabalala out of Bafanasquad

LLOYD BURNARDWORLDCupheroandKaizerChiefsace Siphiwe Tshabalala was themostnotable absentee fromBafanaBafanacoachGordon Igesund’s23-mansquadannouncementonTues-day for 11 October’s internationalfriendly against Morocco in AgadirCity.

Tshabalala is said to be injured, though the specifics of the injurywerenotknownonTuesday, andheis also set to miss Chiefs’ TelkomKnock-outclashagainstPolokwaneCity on Saturday.

As has become routine in Ige-sund’s selectionpolicy, therewill bea blend of youth and experience forthe Morocco clash, with five un-cappedplayers named in the squadset for debuts.

Igesundhas, onceagain, casthisnet wide and among the five new-bies are two overseas-based play-ers in 19-year-old defender NkosiNtlhe (Peterborough United, Eng-land) and 20-year-old midfielderAyanda Patosi (Lokeren, Belgium).Nthle has represented SA U20 onfive occasions, while Patosi learnthistradeinCapeTownbeforejettingoff for the bright lights of Europe.

The other three newcomers areall local players in much-hypedgoalkeeper Ronwen Williams (Su-perSport United), Wits midfielderSibusiso Vilakazi and 20-year-oldAjax Cape Townmidfielder KeaganDolly.

Igesund has also stayed true tohisword in not selecting anyOrlan-do Pirates players— the Soweto gi-

ants are in the middle of a toughschedule thanks to CAFChampionsLeague duty, and will play in thetwo-legged semi-finals of that com-petition either side of the Bafanamatch. Only Kermit Erasmus fromBucs features in Igesund’smakeup,as the striker was not registered totakepart in theChampionsLeague.

“We seriously had to sit downand look at Pirates’ situation. Weneed to support them in this cam-paign hence I decided to leave theirplayersoutaswedon’twantto jeop-ardise their preparations in anyway,” Igesund told SuperSport.comon Tuesday.

“Next year it could be Ajax CapeTown or Moroka Swallows or anyother team and we will do exactlythe same thing. We hope their suc-cesswillruboffonthenationalteamas it did in 1995 when Pirates wonthe continental title and BafanaBafana lifted the Afcon trophy thefollowing year.”

Turning his attention to his op-ponents, Igesundsaid thatMoroccowould provide the perfect prepara-tion for the 2015 Africa Cup of Na-tionsqualifiersthatgetunderwayinDecember.

“We are playing a very formida-ble team and you know North Afri-can teams are strong and will giveus a stern test,” he said.

“This is a very seriousmatch forboth sides and there is some rivalryinthat inourlastmatchwedrew2-2in the Afcon earlier this year — amatch thatwas voted thebest of theAfcon tournament.”

DANNYJordaanis thenewSafapres-ident.Letushopehelivesuptotheex-pectations of the huge majority thatvoted him into office.

It is also interesting to see thatSouth Africans are starting to look atpeople in terms competency insteadof race. Young South Africans areyearning foropportunities todeveloptheir talents.Wehope thenewexecu-tive will consider first the interest ofthe game before themselves.

Presently, we seem to think thatBafana Bafana can become a worldclass teaminacountrywherethe jun-iorsarenotplaying.Thebiggest chal-lenge as Danny himself correctlyidentifies is the quality of coaching.

South African footballers are aproduct of our coaches. We definitelyneedtoimprovethequalityandquan-tity of coaches in this country. You donotbecomeagoodcoachonlybywin-ning local competitions. South Afri-cancoachesshouldcomparewith thebest that the world can offer.

ProblemsofSouthAfricanfootballwill take many years to solve. Thetraining of more coaches and thequality of training does not solvecoaching challenges. We also need tochange our mindsets in relation towork ethic. It does not help to havehighly educated but lazy people.Presently, money and materialisticthings are more important than thework to most of us.

Issues of service delivery are alsoclosely linked to the game of football. Our country has not transformed interms of football facilities at grass-roots level. Young boys and girls donot have training facilities in theircommunities. The Sports Ministertalks about school sports and yetmany schools in Black areas do nothave any football fields.

Wewish the new executive get allthe support they need from everySouth African. Patriotism is moreabout doing positive things for yourcountry than yourself.

Presently, we have failed to incul-catethespiritof loveforone’scountry.I hope they will show this throughtheir leadership style. Interest of thegamemust come before personal in-terests. Unzima lo mthwalo!

THE figure of national stars whowere once produced by

Eastwoodcanbeeasilyreplicatedif sports facilities around the areascan be improved.

These were remarks by popularEastwood socialite, entrepreneurandasoccerclub-Re-United-ownerShane Patchay said recently. “WecaneasilyseeanotherShaunDonne-ly, Klamie Row,

RowenDolphin,ArthurBartman,Shaun Potgieter and Shane Morri-son coming from the area again.

Remember Eastwood also pro-ducedawelterweightchampion,Ce-drick Conway that went all the waytowintheSAtitleinprofessionalbox-ing, so therewas a national champi-

on that came out of this area whenthe

facilitiesweregoodandlookedaf-ter,”saidPatchay. Patchay, likemanyresidents and especially athletes ofdifferent code of sports, says thestandardandconditionsofthesport-ing facilities around Eastwood have“gone to the dogs”.

Heisappealingtothelocalmunic-ipality to do something in order tokeep the sports going in the area.

“Acoupleofseasonsago, Iboughta team in theSABSafaLeague calledKings United and changed it to Re-Unitedjust forthelocalyoungsterstocome together again and play as ateam. “But the conditions on East-woodgroundshavegone sobad that

players get hurt everyday whentraining. We are also now forced toplay our home games at NorthdaleStadium instead of staging them atour door step, at Eastwoodgrounds,”said Patchay. He feels ifEastwood grounds can be main-tainedagain,fencedupandprovidedwith proper lighting, things can bebacktonormalandcrimecanalsogolow. “Things are so different, you goto other areas flood light at thegrounds are all working properlyandalwayson,butyoucometoEast-wood grounds, not all the flood lightare in working conditions, fence isbroken down and people just walkthrough everyday and there’s a bigfootpath in the middle of the pitch.

“We also don’t see those sprin-

klers watering the grounds like howit used to happen many years ago.”

The head coach of the Re-UnitedFC is the former SAU17 captain, ex-SAU23- AmaGlug-Glug player andAmaZulu player, Shane Morrison.

Msunduzi Municipality spokes-man Brian Zuma said the problemwas a common one around the citybut needs attention. “Maybe weneed to re-visit andunderstandhowthose facilitiesweremaintainedandwork from there. But issues likethese are common and are all overour areas, ideas need to be sharedin order to comeupwith the best so-lutions.” -Jerry Barnes

Ward 34 incorporates areas suchas Panorama, Eastwood, Glenwood,ThembalihleandCinderellaParkandPanorama Primary School has beenearmarked for the event.

According toorganisers, theeventwill start at 7:30 am with a fun run/walk (2,5km).

“The one day community gameswere to be rounded off last weekendbut the unkind rainy weather anddangerous conditions forced us to re-reschedule it for this coming Satur-day,” said event coordinator andfounder of the ward 34 communitysport day, Jerry Barnes.

“Some teams,parentsandspecta-tors came and really wanted to goaheadwith the games, but the condi-tionswerebad. Itwas very cold, rain-ing non-stop, the pitch slippery andwedecideditwasnotsafeforour com-munity,especiallythechildrentoplay.

“I’m justglad thatweall settled forSaturday,”continued the veteransports journalist.

The Department Of Sports andRecreation uMgungundlovu districtmanager, Busi Nkomo, said the chil-dren wanted to play but parents, or-ganisers and team managers wereable to convince them.

“Thechildren justwanted to carryonwiththebusiness, butwetoldthemthat the conditions were not safe toplay.

Barnes said besides the fun run/walk, soccer games (boys and girls),they will be other sport codes on theday’s program such as netball, skip-

indigenous sporting codes.“This week, I had a couple of calls

from other areas such as Copesville,Zinketheni, Northdale, Ntuthukovilleand Haniville. People were asking tobringmorenetball teamsandingomagroups (traditional Zulu dance).

“I’m saying any team (boys, girls, seniors, O35-old timers or juniors),from any area, sports or traditional,

anything, come, participate andplay with us.

“I repeat, people are coming toplay. They will win medals and tro-phies, we don’t have food,” saidBarnes.

He said the aim of the event is tosee the community playing andbeingmade aware of social ills such asdrugs, alcohol, abusive behaviourand HIV/Aids and how to preventthem or manage HIV/Aids.

Telkom Knockout lookstough for KZN teams

>> Besidesmeetingunpredictable PSL sides, they all playaway.

THE Telkom Knockout Cuplast 16 fixtures are not look-ing kind at all for KwaZulu

Natal teams. All KZN sides are go-ing to play away and their fixturesare not easy at all.

The first fixturesof this compe-titions kicked-off last night(Wednesday) when the heartbro-ken Orlando Pirates visited Mpu-malanga Black Aces at MbombelaStadium. Oneof theKZNhopefuls,Lamontville Golden Arrows willkick off their campaign tomorrow

(Friday) against unpredictableBidvestWitsawayatBidvestStadi-um in Milpark. Arrows long serv-ing player and captain, Thanduy-ise “Gonodo” Khuboni this weekagreed that the fixtures for KZNteamsare tough. Healso says cur-rently his team is trying the best toget the required results but theywereabitunluckyinrecentgames.“Personally, I won’t say we areplaying bad football. Okay, we arestill battling tomeet thepoints thatwe targeted at the start of the sea-

son. We are playing well but justunlucky of losing easy games andfailing to convert our chances,”said Khuboni. Khuboni said histeam want to redeem themselvesby going far in Telkom KnockoutCup. “Playing Wits at their basewon’t be an easy stroll in the park, but we also want to make a smallhistory ourselves as a KZN teamand last long in this competition,”said Khuboni.

AmaZulu are playing away toFreeStateStarsonSaturdayafter-

noon at Goble Park. The Team ofChoice is also travelling to NorthWest to meet the newly crownedMTN8 Wafa - Wafa Champions,Platinum Stars.
