MOVIES like ‘TheMatrix’, ‘Avatar’ and ‘StomptheYard’arewhat inspiredaPietermaritzburgdancing trio to formagroupcalledMatrixAva-tar in 2007.
The group ismadeupofMonwabisiMhlon-go, Siyabonga Ndlovu and Tumelo Mhlaolifrom the Imbali Unit 2 township.
It has appeared in reality talent show ‘SA’sgot talent’.Theirperformancemovedtheaudi-ence who clapped and waved hands, saidMhlongo.
He described their artistic moves as a mixof music and dance, which includes dancestyles taken fromtelevisionmovies like ‘Stompthe Yard’.
“We formed the group in 2007 and weredriven by our passion of dance andmusic,” he
said. Talkingabouttheir journeyaspartof ‘SA’sgot talent’, he said they are now waiting for acall that will decide if they made it through tothe semi-finals of the competition. “We wentand auditioned in Durban and our perform-ancewasexciting.Wereceivedalotof lovefromtheaudienceandthatkeptusgoing.Wehadourface painted with blood which representedzombies.
“We are nowwaiting for the call which willtell us if wemade it through to the next round.We have performed in most places in Durbanand the feedback has been good,” he said.
Thegrouphopes toopenadanceschooloneday.
“Wewould like to see what we do grow andthen pass it from generation to generation.
“It’s always unique to come up with yourown thing and as a group, that is what we dowhen we mix our dance moves,” he said.

Striving harddespite challengesMONEY and fame in football has resulted in all kindof animals becoming part of the game.
We definitely lack passion for the game. This inturn has affected the quality of play.
Parents encourage their kids to play not for healthand recreational reasons. The majority see their children’s participation in football as some kind of a lottoticket. In some instances, education, both in termsof academic and “home” is neglected.
It is important for both government and footballassociations to see football in terms of recreationaland health reasons. Facilities for training and competing should be provided in the townships. It is sadthat most municipalities are neglecting their responsibilities in this regard. They spend more time and resources worrying about either professional or international football.
Wheredoyoungboysandgirlspracticethegame?We do not even have spaces where children can
have a kickabout. When we were growing up at theheight of the apartheid regime, most footballersused to travel to the Showgrounds for practices.There were no training facilities in Imbali or Edendale.The situation has worsened in recent years. A fewfootball facilities that existed in Alex Park are nowused for other sports.
Lackoffacilitiesandaproperlyorganisedfootballleague is driving young people to alcohol, drugs andcrime. Diseases associated with lack of exercise, likeheart problems etc, are on the rise. It is also true thatfootball can also be used to keep both mothers andfathers active. Fifa tried during the 2010 World Cupto educate Africans about the importance of activelifestyles using football. It is sad that African nationsare not taking the popularity of the game for the rightreasons.
In the province of KwaZuluNatal, we have worldclass football facilities named after great leaders.
It is sad that Slangspruit and Dambuza, communities where Gwala and Mabhida grew up, have nofootball facilities. I doubt if teams from these twoareas will be allowed to even set their feet on thegrass of these facilities. The best facilities these daysare reserved for the elite. The young and poor haveto do with gravel football facilities.
It is critical for our youth in Pietermaritzburg tostrive hard irrespective of these challenges.
In recent years, boys like Andile Cele, Mbulelo Mabizela graduated from TeHuis to PSL and international football.
Success in life does not only rely on money.Knowledge and the correct mindset are key to

TOYOTA has released images of a stunningconcept car that provides the first hint of a typeof vehicle the company would like to bring to thesmall SUV market. The radical Toyota CHRconcept, which will have its world premiere nextweek at the Paris Motor Show, presents a bold newdynamic design language.
The striking blue CHR concept introduces anexpressive new “diamond architecture” stylingtheme to the segment and features a hybridpowertrain. Below its compact, sensual cabinprofile, the lower bodywork has been sculptedto represent the faceted surfaces of a highlydurable, precisioncut gemstone.

FOR a car designer, the chance to reimag-ine an icon like Ford Mustang is alwaysexciting. Doing this for the famous Ford
performance car’s 50th anniversary, is theopportunity of a lifetime.
As Ford’s performance leader, the basicparameters of Mustang were obvious: rear-wheel drive combined with the sound andperformanceofaV8enginetocreatetheviscer-al experience that Mustang drivers expect.
Part of the appeal ofMustangover the yearshas been the way it combines style, perform-ance and everyday usability thanks to its four-seat cabin and sizable trunk.
These attributes hadto be part of the newdesign. With these basicparameters, Forddesigners established afootprint to work withroughly the same as thefifth generation model.
From a design stand-point, the challenge washow to design a car thatwas contemporary, butunmistakably Mustang.The goal was to create aMustang with a bold, ag-gressive face, with chis-elled detailing on the body and amore athleticstance on its tires.
Several hundred sketches were submittedinearly2010incorporatingmanyof theprima-ry Mustang DNA cues to varying degrees. Thelongbonnet,shortdeck,boldgrille,shark-frontnose, fastback profile, side hockey stick con-tour and rear tri-bar tail lamps were reinter-preted in dozens of different ways.
Similarly, sketches of the interior featuredthe distinctive symmetrical instrument panelwith a double brow design and large analoguegauges. Throughout 2011, hundreds of initialsketches were narrowed down to a handful ofproposalsthatwouldbetransformedintoanin-itialbatchofclaymodels forevaluation in threedimensions. After further development, threethemes went into the final selection phase inearly 2012.
By thesummerof2012-aswithallpreviousgenerations - the main Dearborn, Michigan,studio took the leadondeveloping theMustanginto a production car.
Designers, clay sculptorsanddigitalmodel-
lersspentcountlesshoursrefiningthelinesandsurfacesthatcreatethethreedimensionalbodyside and the powerful hunches as well as thelong-sculpted hood with a forward leaningnosethatgivethe2015Mustangitsuniquelookand personality.
Detailssuchastheshapeandsizeofthegrilleandheadlampswererefinedandtherear trackwaswidenedby70millimetres, giving thenewcar an even more aggressive stance.
Theeliminationof the front and rearbump-er shelves and theuseof unified sideglasswiththe B-pillar hidden behind the rear quarterwindowscontributetothenewMustang’smore
contemporary shape.On the interior, the
team paid close atten-tion to the relationshipsof thevariouselements,and designed them in away to achieve opti-mum fit and finish.
The final theme wasinspired by the wing ofan airplane, with thedoublebrowcarvedoutof the wing.All the gau-ges, registers, toggleswitches and other de-sign elements are
placed into the wing. Everything is where itneeds to be for usability, just like the cockpit ofanairplane.Thetoggleswitchesareahighlightof the modern centre stack.
Thedesigners have also taken advantage ofmodern lighting technology at both ends of thecar. IndirectLEDs illuminate thebladestyle tri-bar tail lamps with a uniform glow. LEDs arealso used for the three gills mounted inboardof the high-intensity discharge headlamps,recalling the gills moulded into the headlampbuckets of the original 1965 Mustang.
Alongtheway,theshapeofthenewMustangunderwent twiceasmuchaerodynamic testingas any previous generation.
The final production design of the all-newsixth-generation Ford Mustang was revealedto the world on December 5, 2013 and it willbe go on sale in the US later this year. This isalsothefirstgenerationoftheMustangthatwillbe sold across the world, including SouthAfrica, Australia, and the UK. The all-newMustang, with V8 and EcoBoost® engines willgo on sale in South Africa late 2015.
