The ECG Instructor’s Clinic and Teaching Manual is the first program designed just for you, the ECG Instructor, to assist you in the painless preparation of your ECG courses. We realize that the tools of your trade are sparse, and that most of you must make up your own teaching materials for this important aspect of Cardiology. There are no uniform standards for teaching ECG students; and our National Exam Program has verified that the average score at any examination level is about 60 percent. The American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine's intent is to improve the quality of ECG interpretation by providing not only the standards, objectives, and outlines you need, but examples of virtually every topic from Basic to Advanced.At the program we plan to review the Basic, Intermediate and Advanced ECG diagnostic criteria that need mastering at each of the three levels. Pretesting will take place on the first day at your desired level. We will then proceed on the first two days by keeping the whole group together to go through the Basic and Intermediate materials with everyone. On the third day we will break into two groups: A) those who teach only at a Basic to Intermediate Level and B) those who teach Advanced topics. Roundtable discussions are planned at each Level to provide time for informal interaction with other Educators from around the Country. We will be using the I-Clicker system, a robust audience response system whereby each participant will use their own hand held I-Clicker, enabling the entire group to give responses to various ECGs. This makes for a very lively interactive group and assists each individual in understanding their own Level of knowledge of each subject presented. And why not take advantage of the ECG Instructor’s Certification Exams offered at the conclusion of the Program--a perfect way to assess and demonstrate your own knowledge. ABOUT THE ECG INSTRUCTOR’S CERTIFICATION EXAMS

In an effort to standardize ECG interpretation, the American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine has developed ECG Certification Exams which are offered at all meetings on Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced Levels. At the ECG Instructor’s Clinic you will receive and be pretested at any level you desire utilizing our various ECG Practice Exams designed in the same format as the actual Certification Exams offered on the fourth day of this Program. After the Exams have been scored you will not only receive your overall score, you will also receive a list of topics you correctly identified along with a list of those diagnoses you overlooked in your Exam. A frameable Certificate good for three years is awarded to those who score 80% or more. Those that score 60 to 80% on either the Advanced or Intermediate Exams will receive the next lower level Certificate.

The I-Clicker provides the ideal solution for questions with up to five answer choices (A-E). Designed with simplicity in mind making the I-Clicker the fastest and easiest way for Instructor’s to vote in a group setting.

A GLIMPSE INTO THE PROGRAMThe Instructors for this program will first present what they recommend should be taught to Basic students; and then what should be added at the Intermediate and

Advanced Levels. The I-Clicker audience response system and round table discussions will be utilized each day to let you see how well you read ECGs and to share teaching methods and other ideas-- a great opportunity to Network with other ECG Instructors from around the Country at all Levels of Practice. INSTRUCTOR’S MANUAL & PROGRAM PROGRAM DIRECTOR AND FACULTY Everyone attending the ECG Instructor's Clinic will receive the ECG Instructors Manual. The ECG Instructors Manual provides one example of each entity listed in this program brochure; you are encouraged to add additional examples from your own collection before teaching with the Manual. Please note that the Instructor’s Manual is copyrighted and may not be used for any other purpose than to teach at your respective hospitals or clinics. Each Instructor receiving the Manual will be required to sign a no-compete & license agreement with the American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine (ABCM), stating that they will utilize these materials only for teaching at their various Hospitals or Institutions. Instructors who receive this Manual may not use it to teach privately outside their Institutions, and may not charge their students a fee to attend any course they may teach using the ECG Instructor’s Manual & Course. If your Hospital or Institution has several facilities, an Instructor from each facility must attend the Program in order to receive and utilize the Manual & Course at their respective facilities—no sharing of product is allowed. However, ECG Instructors who become Board Certified through the ABCM are eligible to apply to become faculty for future ECG Programs hosted by the ABCM; and will then be paid by the ABCM for their teaching service.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR AND FACULTY: All of the faculty are widely respected for their knowledge in Electrocardiography and are gifted teachers; we hope you have the opportunity to learn from them at this or another program. The American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine has led the Nation in setting standards for ECG interpretation and teaching guidelines for 35 plus years. The late Henry J.L. Marriott, MD, FACP, FACC, was a World Renowned Author and Master Teacher of Electrocardiography, who personally mentored, taught and published with Jonni Cooper on an International scale, leading the way for her to found the American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine (ABCM) and its affiliated subspecialty organizations to teach and Certify Cardiology Professionals on a Global Scale; a 35 year history second to none. Linda Wright was also mentored by Dr. Henry J.L. Marriott at several ECG programs, and as a result, became one of the Nation's first Board Certified Advanced Electrocardiographers in 1994. Her experience lead the way for her to continue teaching electrocardiography throughout the United States, and most recently to Medical Students at Texas A&M University Medical College in Brian Texas. Alice Friedrich was also mentored by both Dr. Henry J.L. Marriott and Jonni Cooper, leading the way for her to continue teaching Electrocardiography at Cardiology Programs throughout the United States. Elizabeth Eades was mentored by Jonni Cooper at several programs, and has demonstrated her excellent knowledge base by becoming Board Certified in 12-lead Electrocardiography, by the ABCM.
