What happens in a typical ECFE class?

ECFE classes have three components:

1. Parent and Child Interaction: an early childhood teacher provides developmentally appropriate activities for parents and children to enjoy together.

2. Guided Play for Children: a portion of the class is devoted to learning through play with our staff while parents participate in parent education topics, depending on the child’s age this may occur in a separate room or in the children’s class space.

3. Parent Education: parents and caregivers participate in a discussion led by a licensed parent educator. Joys and challenges of parenting are shared and topic discussions are designed to address the developmental issues of each age group.

Early Childhood Screening

The early childhood years from birth to the start of kindergarten are important times of rapid learning and growth. Early Childhood Screening is a free and simple check of how your child is growing and developing offered through the Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools. Between the ages of 3 and 4, screening can detect possible health or learning concerns, so that children can get help before they start school. Parents accompany their child through the approximate hour-long process. After the screening activities, the screener shares information on a child’s growth, development, and learning.

An important step on the road to Kindergarten includes Early Childhood Screening.

The Care and Feeding of the Family

Health and nutrition, always something we know we should focus on both as an adult and as a parent. Join us to look at all aspects of this topic ranging from Meals Made Easy, Meals Made Sneaky, Marketing and Media Influences on Food Choices, Special Circumstances (allegies, unique needs, vegetarian/vegan), When and Why to Choose Organics, You are What You Eat (how individual nutrients contribute to health and development), What’s Really Inside Our Foods (hidden sugar and other additives), Healthy Food/Healthy Planet (looking at food sources and packaging), etc. These and other topics will be the focus of parent leanring while your preschool-aged child will learn about these topics from the child’s perspective.

Tiny Footprints

Footprints come in all shapes and sizes, but Prior Lake- Savage Area Schools are leaders when it comes to minimizing the ecological footprints our staff, students and programs leave behind! Now we are offering a fun and informative learning experience for preschool-aged children and their caregivers. Hands on activities will capture young children’s interest in the world around them, while interactive discussions will enhance your awareness of the many tools available to create a healthier, happier environment for your family and our earth. If you’ve ever asked yourself, how Green should my family be, is my family suffering from Nature Deficit Disorder, what should my child know about ecology and the natural environment?, etc. then this is the class for you and your child! NOTE: There will be some outdoor exploration opportunities

Parents and caregivers of 3, 4, and 5 year olds know that as their preschoolers grow, so do the challenges and opportunities. New abilities, new activities and new friendships all make this an exciting time for you and your child. • So why not take some time each week to celebrate their many accomplishments in this fun-filled class? • Children will have lots of opportunities to learn and develop the skills they’ll need for preschool life.• Grown-ups will have time to meet with a parent educator to discuss the joys and concerns of growing a preschooler.
