60TH ANNIVERSARY PARISH ARCHIVES As part of the parish’s 60th anniversary observance, we will dedicate the month of June to gathering as many pictures and documents from the parish’s 60 years as possible for the Par-ish Archives. Retired Georgia State University records man-ager Kent Williams will spearhead the ef-fort. SOCCER REGISTRATION Soccer Registration is now open! Registration for the newest sport is now open to members of the IHM parish and school. Teams will be from Kindergarten through 8th grade, six divi-sions in all. There will be one practice a week (Monday-Thursday after 6pm) on the back field at IHM school. FAREWELL, FATHER JAVIER! June 24 Archbishop Gregory has appointed Father Javier Muñoz as parochial vicar of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Cum-ming, GA, effective July 1. Please plan to join us for our par-ish farewell celebration for him on Sunday, June 24, 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the historic church. And please keep Father Javier in your prayers as he prepares for this transition.

WELCOME, FATHER CARLOS! July 1 The Archbishop has appointed Father Carlos Ortega to be IHM’s new parochial vicar, beginning on July 1. A native of Venezuela, Carlos was a schoolteacher in Venezuela and Atlanta before re-sponding to the call to priesthood. He studied theology at Mundelein Semi-nary in Chicago, where he earned the Master of Divinity degree. Father Car-los will be ordained to the priesthood on June 16. Please keep him in your pray-ers as he prepares to begin his priestly ministry.

Each Thursday, Dr. Louanne Bachner leads an informative and prayerful

discussion of the lectionary readings for the following Sunday. The study

meets in the Lower Level at two different times: 9:30 a.m. or 7:00 p.m.

STARVE WARS June 1 The Archdiocese is looking for 650 volunteers of all ages to pack 100,000 meals to go to the impoverished developing nation of Burkina Faso in West Africa. The event will take place Friday, June 1 at the Georgia International Convention Center in College Park. There will be two sessions, 9:00-10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m., both taking place in Hall A of the Convention Center. In order to be more inclusive, both sessions will have Spanish interpreters and the second session will accommodate those living with disabilities.
