Who are we?We are a group of people that live and love Chepe and want to share some of the cool spots that we’ve discovered throught the years. We are the local friend you were looking for to make the most out of San Jose. Carpe Chepe!

The first thing you need to know is that nobody from San José calls it San José; we call it Chepe. Chepe was the warm way to refer to people who’s first name was José; hence, Chepe is how affectionately refer to our capital.

We believe San José is a beautiful, fun and interesting city that must be seized by locals and shared with visitors.

We believe that the best way to know a city is by sharing with those who call it “home” and we are sure that the main detractors of San José are those who haven’t got the chance to discover its charms yet.

We believe that the benefits and wealth that tourism brings to Costa Rica can also benefit the local San José economy. A sustainable and collaborative economy of small entrepreneurs who help each other out to make our capital grow.

We are positive that collectiveness provides security and that commerce is the best way to keep the city awake, active and safe.

We believe that it’s the right and duty of all costa ricans to know our history, to appreciate, and preserve our heritage. And we know San José has enough history, culture, entertainment and gastronomy to become a major touristic destination and stop being a mandatory stop.

We’re motivated to vindicate our Right to the City, but we’re also aware that is our duty, together, as institution, academy and civil society, to build the city we want.

DESCRIPTION: We are pioneers doing night tours. Our mission is to show how beautiful and fun our beloved capital of San José is and introduce our guests to the quality of the locally produced beer, walking along a safe route that allows us to see Chepe with new eyes. We stop at four of the best bars and pubs in the city, to taste the delights of a good beer. A beer expert guide will tell us about this beverage, its history, processes, ingredients and even how to pair a beer with a meal.

DESCRIPTION: San Jose’s cuisine is becoming more extensive and complex, able to please even the most demanding palates. In this tour we will not only taste the pleasures of good eating in San Jose; but also between each of the three delicious stops we will walk through Barrio Escalante, the last neighborhood to be developed in the East of San Jose; reason for which its architecture is preserved almost intact, allowing you to see very different and interesting styles one next to the other.

DESCRIPTION: Since the coffee export was so important for the economic development of Costa Rica and specially San José, this tour aims to share with you the history of coffee in our town and talk about the different gourmet coffee production areas, the particularities of each one of them and the factors that affect those properties. We will also learn three different infusion methods, while we sample a different one in each coffee shop visited.

Our Central market in the heart of San Jose is no exception. On this tour we will visit this 136-year legacy and get to know the history of the first markets that existed in our capital as we taste some of the flavors that make it unique.
