About Local Foods The Eastern Panhandle is home to a diverse agriculture industry. The climate, topography, and access to markets has given rise to more small acreage produce operations in recent years that sell direct to consumer. Local farms, just like any other small business, rely on community support to sustain themselves. The Coronoavirus pandemic has caused a vast disruption in the food supply chain, leaving many grocery stores lacking produce and meat. As such, local food consumption is seeing a surge, making it clear the value small farms have on our community and wellbeing. In response, WVU Extension Service has put together this guide to make it easier for the public to source their food locally.

Using This Guide In this publication, you’ll find a list of farms sorted by county, the products they sell, where to purchase products, and how to contact the producers. Websites, social media links, and emails are hyperlinked into this document, and can with one click will bring you directly to the farm’s pages. It is encouraged you check their pages, if applicable, for the most up to date information on product available and how to purchase product. Many farms offer a large assortment of produce. Unless specific items are listed, in season produce may include brussel sprouts, cabbage, cantaloupe, carrots, chard, cucumbers, eggplant, green beans, kale, lettuce, onions, peas, potatoes, radishes, spinach, squash, sweet corn, tomatoes, watermelon, zucchini. Item availability will vary based on time of the season. While some addresses are published, respect the privacy of farms and refrain from showing up unannounced or outside of their operating hours.
