Easter Sunday 2017

Dear Sisters and Brothers in the Risen Lord,

This year’s Easter gospel comes to us from Saint Ma hew. He describes Easter morning. Women go to the tomb at dawn on the first day of the week. An angel appears and speaks to them: “Do not be afraid! I know that you are seeking Jesus the crucified. He is not here, for he has been raised just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Then go quickly and tell his disciples.”

In these words, we find the essen al Easter message

directed to each one of us today in our uncertain world and amid the painful burdens we carry: do not be afraid, come and see, go and tell.

Easter eases our fear when we come to know God’s

triumph in the resurrec on of Jesus. Easter invites us to come and see with fresh eyes what God has done in conquering sin and death. Easter summons us to go and share our faith and hope with others.

When we hear this message and recognize Jesus

Christ as the Risen Lord of life, how can we not praise and thank God? How can we not walk together with new confidence and hope? In a me when violence and death-dealing forces seem rampant in the world and even in our own neighborhoods, we truly need new confidence and hope. And when we listen to the Lord, as we have been trying to do in the Archdiocese of Chicago, to seek direc ons for the renewal of our local Church, we surely need new confidence and hope.

Pray with me that we may all truly hear the words—

do not be afraid, come and see, go and tell—and so draw new life from them for our loved ones, our world, our city and metropolitan area, our Church, and our very selves.

Domingo de Pascua 2017 Queridos hermanos y hermanas en el Señor Resucitado:

El evangelio Pascual de este año proviene de San Mateo. En él describe la mañana de Pascua. Las mujeres van a la tumba al amanecer el primer dia de la semana. Un ángel se aparece y les habla: “¡No teman! Se que están buscando a Jesús el crucificado. Él no esta aquí, porque ha resucitado tal como lo dijo. Vengan, vean el si o donde yacía. Luego vayan enseguida y cuéntenlo a sus discípulos”.

Es estas palabras encontramos el mensaje esencial de

la Pascua dirigido hoy día a cada uno de nosotros, en nuestro mundo incierto y en medio de las cargas dolorosas que llevamos: no teman, vengan y vean, vayan y cuéntenlo.

La Pascua alivia nuestro miedo cuando llegamos a

conocer el triunfo de Dios en la resurrección de Jesús. La Pascua nos invita a acercarnos y ver con ojos nuevos lo que Dios ha hecho al conquistar el pecado y la muerte. La Pascua nos invita a ir y compar r nuestra fe y esperanza con los demás.

Cunado escuchamos este mensaje y reconocemos a

Jesucristo como el Resucitado Señor de la vida, ¿como negarse a alabar y dar gracias a Dios? ¿Como negarse a caminar juntos con nueva confianza y esperanza? En un momento en que la violencia y las fuerzas mor feras parecen rampantes en el mundo, e incluso en nuestros propios vecindarios, realmente necesitamos una nueva confianza, una nueva esperanza. Y cuando escuchamos al Señor, como hemos estado intentando hacer en la Arquidiocesis de Chicago, para buscar nuevos caminos para la renovación de nuestra Iglesia local, es seguro que surge la necesidad de tener nueva confianza y esperanza.

Oren conmigo para que todos podamos escuchar

verdaderamente estas palabras: no teman, vengan y vean, vayan y cuéntenlo, y que al hacerlo obtengamos de ellas nueva vida para nuestros seres queridos, para nuestro mundo, nuestra cuidad y nuestra área metropolitana, para nuestra Iglesia y para nosotros mismos.

REJOICE AND BE GLAD “This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad” (Psalm 118:24). Let us remember that these words of today’s responsorial psalm are not only sung from the hearts of those gathered in our parish. They are also sung by the poor in ny barrios throughout Central and South America. They are sung by those denied reli-gious freedom in our world; these Chris ans li their voic-es in clandes ne places of worship. These words are sung by people who have lost loved ones to acts of terrorism and war around the globe. Son cantadas por perso-nas que han perdido seres queridos a manos del terroris-mo y la guerra alrededor del mundo. Incluso en medio del conflicto y la división, los cris anos nos unimos para decla-rar que la pobreza, la soledad, la violencia y la división nunca jamás tendrán tanto poder como la Vida, la Muerte y la Resurrección de Jesucristo. The Resurrection of Jesus is the crowning truth of our faith in Christ. We are familiar with the accounts of Jesus’ appearances after the Resurrection, and many are read at Mass during the Easter season. When we examine the accounts in the four gospels we find minor differences. What are the reasons for those differences, and what do they tell us about the early disciple’s experience of the Risen Jesus? In this presentation, we will explore the accounts of Jesus’ appearances and what they are intended to teach us today about the message of the Resurrection and our life together in Christ. Celebrate the joy of the Easter season and explore the stories of the risen Christ among us!

Pilgrimage

Did you know there are several loca ons close to Round Lake?

Taking a pilgrimage with the family is a rewarding experience. Plan on praying the rosary or Divine Mercy Chaplet for family, friends, or the Poor Souls in Purgatory in the car. Spend me discussing the experience on the drive home. Who else would enjoy

this trip? How does it compare to other religious places we have visited? Where should we go for our next pilgrimage? The closest place to visit is the Na onal Shrine of Maxamiliano Kolbe located in Libertyville. Mass, adora on, liturgy of the hours, and rosary are just a few of the daily opportuni es. Visit the museum in the basement and their bookstore. If the weather is nice, pray the sta ons of the cross or the rosary on the grounds. Only a short car ride across the Wisconsin border to experience Holy Hill. Visit their website for a lis ng of Mass mes. The sta ons of the cross are a moving experience for all who visit. Try to visit on a day without much wind and climb the 176 steps up the tower. A magnificent view is part of this loca on’s a rac on. It is an experience you don’t want to miss!

The Shrine of Christ’s Passion is located in St. John, Indiana. Life-size sta ons of the cross provide the story of our Lord’s crucifixion. Bring your jacket and enjoy the short walk along the smooth path. The details on the metal statues are truly amazing. Do you want to stay close to home? Then plan to visit our Lord in church. Mass is offered daily. Our parish is fortunate to have adora on on Thursdays too. Can you spare an hour to sit with Jesus?
