RESPONSORIAL PSALM: 118:1-2, 16-17, 22-23.

R. This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad.

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good,

for his mercy endures forever. Let the house of Israel say,

“His mercy endures forever.” R.

“The right hand of the LORD has struck with power; the right hand of the LORD is exalted.

I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD.” R.

The stone which the builders rejected

has become the cornerstone. By the LORD has this been done;

it is wonderful in our eyes. R.

SECOND READING ~ COL 3:1-4 Brothers and sisters: If then you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory.

The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God

SEQUENCE

Victimae Paschali Laudes English Translation

Christians, to the Paschal Victim Offer your thankful praises!

A Lamb the sheep redeems; Christ, who only is sinless,

Reconciles sinners to the Father. Death and life have contended in that combat stupendous:

The Prince of life, who died, reigns immortal. Speak, Mary, declaring

What you saw, wayfaring. “The tomb of Christ, who is living, The glory of Jesus’ resurrection;

bright angels attesting, The shroud and napkin resting.

Yes, Christ my hope is arisen; to Galilee he goes before you.”

Christ indeed from death is risen, our new life obtaining. Have mercy, victor King, ever reigning!

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION

Alleluia, alleluia.

Christ, our paschal lamb, has been sacrificed; let us then feast with joy in the Lord.

GOSPEL ~ JN 20:1-9

On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they put him.” So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first; he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in. When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place. Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed. For they did not yet understand the Scripture that he had to rise from the dead.

The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you Lord Jesus Christ.

Profession of Faith ~ NICENE CREED

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one

Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true

God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men

and for our salvation he came down from heaven,

At the words that, up to and including “and became man” all bow.

and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,

and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy

Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is

adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to

the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

PRAYERS

PRAYER TO SAINT MICHAEL

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.

May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God,

thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

REGINA COELI

Queen of heaven, rejoice, alleluia. For he whom you did merit to bear, alleluia. Has risen, as he said, alleluia.

Pray for us to God, alleluia. Rejoice and be glad, O virgin Mary, alleluia. For the Lord has truly risen, alleluia.

EASTER PRAYER

It is only right, with all the powers of our heart and mind, to praise You Father and Your Only-Begotten Son,

Our Lord Jesus Christ. Dear Father, by Your wondrous condescension of Loving-Kindness toward us, Your servants, You gave up Your Son. Dear Jesus You paid the debt of Adam

for us to the Eternal Father by Your Blood poured forth in Loving-Kindness. You cleared away the darkness of sin by Your magnificent and radiant Resurrection. You broke the bonds of death and rose from the grave as a Conqueror. You reconciled Heaven and earth. Our life had no hope of Eternal Happiness before You redeemed us. Your Resurrection has washed away

our sins, restored our innocence and brought us joy. How inestimable is the tenderness of Your Love!

We pray You, Lord, to preserve Your servants in the peaceful enjoyment of this Easter happiness. We ask this through Jesus Christ Our Lord, Who lives and reigns with God The Father,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, forever and ever. Amen .

Grounded in Christ in Troubled Times

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

I wanted to reach out to you during this strange and unprecedented time. First of all, please know that a day does not go by

that you are not in my thoughts and prayers. Every day at Mass (which I celebrate privately) I ask the Lord’s mercy and

guidance through this crisis. Please continue to have faith and courage in the God’s mercy and know that it will end and we

will return to each other as a parish community soon.

In the meantime, here are the best ways to stay connected and receive the most updated information from the parish office.

Parish website – the most up to date source to receive information is on the parishes’ website at

www.mjaparishescluster.org (in case you are wondering the “mja” stands for Michael, John, Aloysius.

Bulletin – We are continuing to publish our parish bulletin every week and copies are available at each of the parishes

(outside by the front doors) and on the parish website.

Newsletter – Each parish has a weekly online parish newsletter which includes the most recent information and topics. If

you have not signed up yet, go to the parish website, click the tab for news and events and then click the newsletter

tab and fill in the requested information. Newsletter typically go out on Saturday morning.

Flocknote – is a message service we use to get information out as quickly as possible and which are time sensitive. (i.e. clo-

sures and emergencies). You can either sign up to receive a message through Flocknote via email or as a text mes-

sage. To sign up https://stmichaelsandy.flocknote.com or go to the parish website and in the upper right corner, click

on the little “sheep” icon next to the “search” box.

Facebook – we have a very dedicated volunteer to does an excellent job in maintaining the parish Facebook sites. Infor-

mation is posted as it becomes available.

As we close out March and enter April, with no clear picture of when we will be able to gather together as a community, we

are challenged to look for new ways to receive spiritual growth and renewal. With the current advice set forth by the CDC

to stay home and isolate ourselves from others, this brings on even more challenges. Nonetheless, every day I am inspired by

the guidance and support from Our Holy Father the Pope, the Archbishop, the Archdiocese, other priest around the world

and locally, and our own parish communities who are looking for ways that we can still worship and grow our faith togeth-

er.

Here are a few things that are available:

Adoration – St. Michael’s parish will be open for Adoration on Thursdays from 9 am to 5 pm. Anyone is welcome to come

and spend some time with the Lord. We ask that everyone continue to practice safe distancing while in the church

and to not come if you might be sick.

Confessions – Confessions are available by appointment (503) 668-4446 or on Saturdays at St. Michael between 3:30 and

4:30 pm.

Daily Mass with Fr. Gregg on YouTube – We have started recording daily mass at are posting them on YouTube. While the

first few are not the best quality of audio, we are working to design a better system and hope to have it implemented

soon. Check out the website for the video link.

St. Vincent de Paul- St. Aloysius and St. Michael St. Vincent offices are open during their regular days and times.

Pope Francis’ Prayer Service - If you missed the live broadcast of the Holy Father’s beautiful prayer service last week, it is MUST SEE. You can watch a recording https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_Vor08elsY. Be sure to listen to the Pope’s gentle, yet powerful address, reflecting on the Gospel passage of the calming of the storm at sea by Jesus. The full text of his message in English is attached

Archbishop Sample is livestreaming Mass from the Cathedral on Sundays at 11 am via Facebook at 11:00 AM. www.facebook.com/archdpdx. Other parishes are Livestreaming as well. Please check out the Archdiocese website to see the most updated list available.

Grounded in Christ in Troubled Times (continued)

The Catholic Sentinel newspaper - We continue to receive issues of the Catholic Sentinel and we try and leave them out-

side by the doors of all three parishes. You can also view it online at https://catholicsentinel.org/Content/Default/

The Wild Goose is Loose – I have started an online study series and am inviting everyone to participate with me. Each

week, participants watch the video at home (for free) and then send your comments and reflections to me at gbronse-

[email protected]. Comments are due on Friday for the first episode. To sign up, go to the website and look

for Metanoia – Online Study Group – and follow the directions. If you are having a hard time signing up, please feel

free to call the office and we would be more than happy to assist you.

Grotto series - The Grotto has a beautiful series online that you can view online. To join go to https://thegrotto.org/a-

place-of-sanctuary-bringing-the-grotto-to-you.

Formed.org – this wonderful free service is available to every parishioner and has a multitude of programs. There are

movies, books, study programs, reflection series. If you have not registered for it yet, go to www.formed.org/signup,

select your parish (all three churches are registered under St. Michael the Archangel in Sandy); check your email for a

link to begin using Formed.

COVID CHECK IN TEAMS – each parish has established a team of volunteers who are calling members of each parish who

might be isolated or especially vulnerable, and are checking in with them and making sure they are okay. This has

been very heartwarming for me to see and know that we are all caring for each other. Please use this as an example

of what you can do, too, and each out over the phone to neighbors and friends and just offer a simple hello.

The Archdiocese website offers daily updates. Please avail yourself to valuable information that pertains to all of us:

https://archdpdx.org/

Palm Sunday and Easter are incredibly important times in the life of the Church, and I am tentatively planning ways to en-

rich this under these difficult circumstances:

I would like to celebrate Mass at each parish for these two important Sundays. Following the Archbishop’s ruling, it would

be a private Mass but would have two or three key people to assist. I am thinking of having Saturday at St. Michael,

Sunday at 8 am at St. John, and 10 am at St. Aloysius.

We have celebrated Mass at St. John. Since it worked fairly well, we will be inviting you to visit us for Mass at scheduled

times at all three parishes. Stay tuned for details.

Palms will also be available at your parish this weekend. Do NOT touch a bunch of them. Simply take one. We don’t want

to spread the virus through touching a bunch of palms! We will let you know the times later.

Please stay tuned! We are working out all the bugs along the way. Patience is a virtue!

For Holy Thursday and Good Friday, I will be joining Fr. Zach at St. Henry. Those services will be shared with our parishes

also. I am thankful to Fr. Zach for letting me celebrate Mass with someone besides myself!

And finally, most importantly, pray. If you are a faithful prayer already, please continue. If you are someone who has not

been as faithful to prayer as you might want to, please do it. Don’t worry that you are not doing it right or good enough, just

do it. The Lord is not looking for perfection, he is looking for an open heart. Just take a moment and let the Lord help and

guide you. Perhaps consider joining the parish prayer teams.

Together in Christ while in Exile at Home,

Fr. Gregg

Para in-

Mantenerse a salvo.

My Jesus,

I believe that You are truly present

in the Most Holy Sacrament.

I love You above all things,

and I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot at this moment

receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as being already there

and unite myself wholly to You.

Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.
