Dear Parishioners, Thank you for your generosity and for being part of the Sacred Heart Parish community. As you might have heard in parish announcements or read in the bulletin, we’re introducing a new and powerful way to support our parish: Round up donations. Round ups are small contributions tied to purchases you make with your credit or debit card -- just like the coins you throw in a jar. Make a purchase – and this service will automatically round up the transaction to the next dollar and donate the difference to the parish. For example, buying a $2.49 cup of coffee will result in a $.51 donation. Your credit card information is fully protected and safe. Proceeds will be 100% used here in our parish. Round up giving is not intended to replace the offertory, nor is it a major financial commitment. It’s just another way to help our community. Over time, these “nickels and dimes” – especially from a large group of people – really add up for our parish.

I am looking for 30 individuals who are willing to start this giving. Please fill up the form below and I will contact you personally about this.

Thank you for your ongoing and generous support of Sacred Heart. May God continue to bless you. Sincerely, Fr. Eric Parish Administrator, Sacred Heart

HAPPY EASTER

Whereas in Lent we repented, in Eastertide we rejoice. Whereas we fasted, now we feast. Whereas we gave alms, now we give witness in all manner of ways to all people that Christ is truly risen, the old world order is passed away and the reign of God is begun. Begun in the newly baptized, newly oiled believers who have taken their place at Christ’s table. Begun again in us who were baptized and chrismated long ago or last Easter. During the Easter Season it is customary to sprinkle people with holy water to remember baptism. It is a time to make merry, and in some cultures, even to choose a spouse! The bathed and anointed Church is the risen Christ’s spouse. Let the wedding feast begin! Lent was 40 days, the season of sorrow and striving and training. But Eastertide is 50 days, the season of joy and celebrating and feasting! Fifty days for our delight! Fifty days to sing the song of saints and angels: Alleluia! Alleluia!

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP

When I was younger and growing up in Alexandria, VA, I remember one year it actually snowed on Easter. It was crazy to see it that late in the year. We got up and dressed in our best spring clothes so we could venture into the snow on our way to Easter Mass. I remember thinking that the day did not feel much like Easter. It was hard to really get into the mood of God making all things new on a day so cold and full of flurries. If I am honest, I think we rushed home after Mass just so we could get on warm pajamas and just watch TV for the rest of the day, snuggled up on the couch with blankets. It might as well have been a Sunday in January. This year the odds are against it snowing on Easter where I live here in North Carolina. However, for far too many it might as well snow. To them, Easter has nothing to do with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, new life, or anything of the sort. It is just another Sunday. Some of them don't care and never think of Jesus or God on any Sunday of the year. But for others, it will not feel like Easter because they have been forgotten. On this day they will sit at home, just like they sit every single day of their lives. They might be poor, elderly, disabled, or simply alone. On this day, there is no resurrection celebration because they have no real experience of the joy of life. This is where good Everyday Stewards can make a difference. In the midst of buying candy and decorating eggs for baskets and buying new clothes to wear to Easter Mass, find someone who needs to experience the power of Easter. Don't tell them Jesus rose from them, but show them. Instead of the cold of isolation, bring to them the warmth of new life. lifestyle that makes responding, “yes,” that much easier. --Tracy Welliver, MTS

GOSPEL MEDITATION FOR APRIL 1ST

The first light of Easter dawn had begun to creep over the horizon. The steadfast women from Friday’s gory events are returning again to the body of their Lord. “Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” How quickly we return to mundane concerns and how thoroughly God wants to surprise us! Imagine the utter shock upon seeing the stone rolled away, the tomb empty, and a stranger clothed in light proclaiming the impossible. “You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here.” He is risen indeed and the world will never be the same. We know from other Gospel passages that Mary Magdalene made haste to the disciples to proclaim the Good News. We know that Peter and John rushed to the tomb to see for themselves. We know that the wonder and awe of the Resurrection permeated the lives of the apostles until their own dying day. Can we comprehend the utterly world-changing nature of this surprise? The historical reanimation of a dead man is of no real value to us. But we know that Easter Sunday is so much more. By the Resurrection of Jesus, life has triumphed over death for us all. The gates of heaven are opened and the treasury of graces is poured out upon the here and now. This Resurrection Day, let us draw near, amazed yet unafraid, to the risen Christ. Let us recall the words of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, “Jesus is not a character from the past. He lives, and he walks before us as one who is alive, he calls us to follow him, the living one, and in this way to discover for ourselves the path of life”.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

For Children: What is good and new in your life? For Youth: Resurrection reminds us that what looks bad can lead to something good. What has resurrected, or gone from bad to good, in your life over the past year? For Adults: In what way have you risen from “deadness” in your life?
