5Carien BothaCarien Botha is a girl with loads of energy and

ambition. She is a well-known South African

television actress on Dstv's Afrikaans channel

Kyknet.

She was born and raised in Pretoria. Her love for

performing arts originated when she started singing and

acting during her Primary Education, where she starred in

her rst singing solo performance at the age of eleven.

During her High School years in Horskool Oos-Moot she

continued her love for entertainment and took part in the

Sound of Music production at the Aula. She matriculated

in 2005 and during her matric year she had the privilege to

star in her rst television debut - Polka.com commercial

(Izziit?/Ja!) as a School Girl This popular commercial won

the Pen Doring award for best advert.

In 2006 she was approached by the well known producer/

director /actor/scriptwriter Willie Esterhuizen who casted her

in a 26 episode series called Begeertes on Kyknet as

Tiny playing opposite Alvin Bruinders. It was a small role

and she only featured in 9 episodes, but it was here where

her career took off. Willie Esterhuizen saw potential in her

and decided to give Carien a unique new loveable identity

and character called Blapsie. It all started with her rst

feature lm exposure during 2007 in the Afrikaans comedy

Poena is Koning . During 2008 se was offered to feature

in a second feature lm, called Vaatjie sien sy Gat.

In 2009 Willie Esterhuizen came up with the idea of creating

a Kyknet family series that stole a lot of public hearts. A 26

episodes Sitcom called Molly en Wors ,Carien again got

the privilege, with gratitude to play opposite Lizz Meiring,

Willie Esterhuizen, Andrew Thompson, Marga van Rooy

and Gerhard Odendaal as a Matric daughter. The sitcom

was such a success that Molly en Wors 2 and 3 continued.

The character Blapsie progressed from a matric student to

a college beauty student in 2010 and 2011.

Carien as Blapsie continued in her third feature lm, called

Stoute boudjies in 2010.She then decided to try

something different from being an actress and decided to

work behind all the glits and glam and got the opportunity

to work as an assistant makeup artist on a feature lm,

called Lien se lankstaan skoene. She loved every moment

of it and in 2012 she was the H.O.D. Makeup artist in n'

Lewe met (Season 3) a medical and psychological show

with Dr. Franco Colin on Kyknet, soon after, she helped out

on the feature lm Babalas as Make up Assistant for 3

days.

2012 was a challenging and blessed year, she came across

Incense Productions and the proud producer Morne' Lane

who produced Hartsbegeertes. This was quite a

challenge, Carien was originally casted as a nurse, but then

she got the privilege to take over the duties of H.O.D.

makeup and rst assistant director. It was here where

Carien fell in love with the title as rst assistant director and

got the opportunity to be an A.D again in the true life drama

of Willie Olwage, Forsaken, and also made a small

appearance in the lm that will be released 2015. One of

her biggest achievements was being part of the cast of the

International feature lm Leading Ladyand played the role

of Katy. Directly after that Carien played the lead role of

Theresa in an Afrikaans feature lm Rowwe Diamante that

will also be released 2015.

One of the most challenging things was writing her rst

script called Reload. This was also a true life drama of

Francois de Jager that will be in cinemas in 2015.

Reload was also the rst lm where Carien stepped into

the big and challenging shoes of being the Director.

March 2015, she will be part of an exciting new lm called

Suiderkruis written by Inge Pohl culbert and will be co

staring with Mia- Anne O'kennedy and Eddie de Jager.

During her off screen periods, Carien enjoys keeping busy

with professional makeup on brides, matric farewells and

fashion shows, in-house styling, and will be hosting drama

and acting workshops for scholars.

Other experience Carien has includes:

- a voice over in 2007 for Baby Boom speaking in a

little girls voice.

- working as Production Assistant /Personal assistant

and secretary. Doing everything from stage hand,

dresser, assisting artists with backstage quick

costume changes, make-up, and hair (Working with

Joseph Clark, doing The Music of Queen)

Carien offers ten years of experience and exposure within

the entertainment industry.

Valentines day is around the corner and it is quite a special

day for a lot of people, Carien nds it a bit different I don't

think valentines day should only be one day, you must

always try and do something special for the one you love,

by this I don't mean gifts etc, just making a cup of tea for

your spouse without him/her asking is perfect

But she thinks it's a great concept from a business point of

view, it creates opportunity for event planners etc.

This year I would love to go on a wild drive, drink pink

champagne, and appreciate the breathtaking sunsets only

God can create. Its important to make memories with your

husband.
