“As a native of the NorthEast of Scotland I admitto being biased but I trulybelieve that we havesome of the world’s finestand most memorable golfcourses in this area –courses which, playedonce, just have to beplayed again and again.

Two that are especially close to my heartare the charming riverside course atBanchory on Royal Deeside where Ilearned my trade as a professional andthe magnificent links at Carnoustievenue of my Open Championshipsuccess in 1999.

The superb new Trump InternationalLinks is attracting visitors from allaround the world but we also have amarvellous variety of links and parklandlayouts all within very easy reach ofAberdeen – the Granite City.

I am thrilled to now have my own GolfCentre on the outskirts of the city where

you can learn the game, hone your skillsand play the picturesque nine holelayout. If I’m not on tour I might bumpinto you there!

The region is so full of history – great old(and new!) golf courses, ancient castles, malt whisky distilleries and some of themost breath-taking scenery – it is also avery modern area with Aberdeenrecognised as the Oil Capital of Europe.

It’s a wonderful place to stay and play –come and see it and enjoy it for yourself,I promise you won’t be disappointed.”

With its glorious scenery, proud golfing history andlocation in the heart ofScotland, Perthshire isideal for a golf break. It iswhere the Highlands andthe Lowlands meet andgolf flourishes in this lushregion.

Golf has been played in Perthshire sincethe 15th century. King James IV learnedto play on public parklands by the RiverTay in Perth. The city’s South Inch mayhave been the site of the world’s firstgolf course and the Royal Perth Golfing

Society was the first club to receive aroyal charter.

Any fan of golf has heard of Gleneaglesand this prestigious venue boasts threechampionship courses: the King’s, theQueen’s and the PGA Centenary. TheJack Nicklaus-designed PGA CentenaryCourse is the stage for The 2014 RyderCup. It will be the first time in more than40 years that Scotland has hosted thetournament.

Besides Gleneagles, Perthshire hasmany other courses deserving of yourattention. Crieff Ferntower is one ofScotland’s finest inland courses andwas designed by James Braid. Thecreator of the King’s and Queen’s atGleneagles produced some of his finestwork in Perthshire. Blairgowrie has two

championship courses. The Rosemountwas originally laid out by AlisterMacKenzie – the man behind AugustaNational – and later re-designed byBraid. The Lansdowne was designed byPeter Alliss and Dave Thomas in the1970s. Kinross has two excellentparkland courses - The Montgomeryand The Bruce both overlook LochLeven. The Murrayshall Estate nearPerth is home to the Murrayshall andLynedoch courses. Both have hostedPGA events and the tall Scots Pine treesare a tremendous sight. Pitlochry isanother exceptional course withsweeping views of the Tummel Valley.

The city of Perth itself has a great golfoffering. Craigie Hill’s 5th hole – anuphill par 4 – is considered to be one ofthe hardest holes in Britain. The KingJames VI course is a novelty in that it isthe only self-contained river island golfcourse in Britain, only reachable via awalkway on the railway bridge thatspans the Tay.

Perthshire has some charming 9-holecourses that are ideal for families orthose short of time. Open and Masterschampion Sandy Lyle considers StFillans his ‘favourite inland course inScotland’ while Muthill is a delightfulparkland course with views of the

Strathearn Valley. Comrie is apicturesque course founded in the late19th century and Killin features one ofthe most scenic finishing holes in thecountry. Dalmunzie, in the north ofPerthshire, is one of Britain’s highestcourses and throws in a castle for goodmeasure. Even Blairgowrie has a 9-holeoption, fittingly called the Wee Course.
