Edna and Mr P ….Edna and Mr P …. Mair Dool Ally!Mair Dool Ally! [Murray] Oh hello Edna it’s Murray from C C Mo-bility. Can I speak to Mr P please? [Mr P] .….. Hello Murray! How come your phoning me? [Murray] It’s just that I have heard about a wonder-ful system to help with jog-ging your memory. [Mr P] Oh, is that richt, Tam. What is it? [Murray] It’s an app for your mobile which gives you a list of routine tasks which you tick off as you do them; things like “Lock the door”, “Take your pills”, “Feed the cat”, etc. Stops you worrying that you have forgotten some-thing. At the moment it’s only available on i-phone or i-pod but I am sure it will be available for other handsets soon. [Mr P] Whits an i-pod? I’ve heard o’ a pea-pod. Is that ony use? But Elsa - I mean Edna could dae wi something like that. No as bad as auld Shug Carson though! Ye ken I
wis a very keen golfer in ma days but I had to gae it up when my eyesight got too bad. Some body sug-gested that I went out wi auld Shug. He’s in his 90s but still has eyes like a hawk. That seem’d like a guid idea - I could hit the ba’ and he could spot fir me. Well that seem’d fine. I drove off at the first at An-ster. Hit a cracker o’er the tap of the hill. I said “Shug, can you see where it went”.
“Aye, nae bother” said Shug and we set of up the hill. At the top I said “Shug, whar is it then?“ Shug said “Whar’s what?”

We deliberately focus on personalised gifts because we believe that to give someone a gift that is per-sonalised to them makes a birthday or Christmas gift even more special. It shows
the thought that has gone into making the gift selec-tion, which will make your gift even more appreciated.
We have been involved in the gifts business for a num-ber of years now, and have seen an enormous increase in interest in gifts that have been personalised.

Serves 4 Ready in 1 hour 20 minutes
This warming curry is perfect for a chilly
winter evening. It’s a fairly mild dish, but if
you prefer something a little hotter, add a
chopped red or green chilli pepper to the
minced onion mixture.
Place the onion, garlic and ginger in a food processor or blender and whizz for a few seconds until finely minced.
Heat the oil in a large, deep frying pan and fry the minced onion mixture for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until softened and golden brown. Stir in the curry paste and cook for 1 minute.
Cut the chicken fillets into large chunks and add to the frying pan. Cook over a medium heat until no longer pink. Stir in the red lentils and stock or water. Cover and simmer gently, stirring occasionally for 30-35 minutes until the chicken and lentils are tender.
Add the tomatoes and simmer uncovered for a further 10 minutes until the sauce has thickened and the tomatoes are soft. Season to taste with salt and freshly ground black pepper. Serve with boiled basmati rice and onion and cucumber relish. Garnish with fried onions.
1 large onion, peeled and roughly chopped
2 garlic cloves, peeled and crushed
2 tsp grated fresh root ginger
2 tbsp sunflower oil
2 tbsp mild curry paste (such as Patak’s)
500g skinless chicken fillets
100g red lentils
600ml chicken stock or water
2 large tomatoes, roughly chopped
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Boiled basmati rice , onion and cucumber relish (see tip), to serve Fried onions, to garnish
TOP TIP - To make the relish, simply mix together finely shredded red onion with thinly sliced cucumber, fresh chopped mint, a squeeze of lemon juice and a little salt.

Germany to be trained.

At the southern end of the Lesser Antilles, in the Caribbean islands, St Lucia is just a drop in the ocean, 27 by 14 miles, with spectacular mountains, lush rainforest and fertile valleys fringed by sandy beaches. Tossed 14 times between French and English colonial powers, the island has thrown both cultures into the melting pot with a generous helping of African folklore, a little East Indian spice and vestiges of early Amerindian settlers. English is the official language but Creole, a mix of African dialects and French, is coming back, in tune with the stirring rhythm of reggae and calypso.
TravelTravel
St LuciaSt Lucia
S t Lucia is tourist-hungry but eco-friendly and most
developments have been limited to the north-west around Rodney Bay. There are fine sands and palm trees, a gleaming marina and out on the hilly penin-sula, known as Pigeon Is-land, fabulous views over the shimmering Caribbean Sea on one side and foam-ing Atlantic breakers on the other. Pleasure boats sail along the coast looking out for sunfish, dolphins and whales, past the lovely Marigot Bay featured in Dr Doolittle, the fabulous div-ing sites, hidden coves and sleepy villages strung with fishing nets and laundry drying on the beach. On a Friday night, when the beat of Afro-Caribbean steel bands echo along the shore, the village of Anse la Raye stages a gigantic fish fry al fresco, a lively family event where all sorts of delicacies bubble in the pots or sizzle in the pans - seafood, sweet potatoes, corn on the cob, rice, callaloo soup and more. The national dish is
salt fish with green bananas, but equally popular is the fiery pepperpot cooked in cassava juice.
Soufrière, the old capital, nestles below the luxuriant volcanic cones of the Pi-tons, seen on every post-card, but few visitors linger in town. The world’s only ‘drive-in volcano’ is just a stone’s throw away, seeth-ing with sulphurous fumes and gurgling mud, and there are Botanical Gardens with mineral springs, tropi-cal blooms and a stunning Diamond Fall gushing down multi-coloured rocks. To the north, the new capital, Cas-tries, is famed for its Jazz Festival and duty-free malls, gleaming with Colombian emeralds and Amerindian craft, but the old town re-tains a quaint colonial charm. The cathedral has stunning murals and stained glass, designed by Nobel-prize artist Dunstan St Omer, no doubt a source of inspiration for myriad craftsmen and painters who have set up home on the nearby Hill of Good Luck.
Climbing the Pitons is
strictly for the brave but there are easier treks through the hills and rain-forest with jeep safaris heading for remote hamlets, banana plantations and Cre-ole farms fragrant with cin-namon and nutmeg. There may be time to taste cassava bread, bathe in a waterfall and bargain for bird orna-ments carved out of coco-nut shells. At over 3000 feet, Mount Gimmie, the highest peak, rises above it all but views can be enjoyed with no effort at all in the eight-seater gondola offering an expensive but popular ‘sky ride’. There you glide up a hillside, skimming the tree tops, gazing at incense and fern trees, breadnut, blue maho and heliconia, spot-ting hummingbirds, butter-flies, mongoose and taran-tulas dangling inches from your face. Rolling farmlands stretch into the distance, sprinkled with villages where the occasional beat of a Creole drum seems to touch the very heart of this varied and scenic island.

PASSING your driving test is one of the best feelings in the world – but the joy of finally getting your licence can quickly disappear when it comes to finding a car. Astronomical insurance costs can put many models out of the reach of teenagers, but don’t despair too much – there are options out there.
You need to accept the fact that insurance is going to cost you more than the car, but you can help cut the price by taking a Pass Plus course or asking to be added to your parents’ policy as a named driver. That will mean talking to them first though…
If that sounds too challenging there are new insurance schemes that place a black box in your car to monitor your driving style and charge you accordingly – this can be a great way of cutting premiums.
But what cars make sensible buys? Here, we have scoured the classifieds to hunt down a few
options you may want to consider.
Ford Ka – from £300 Cheap to buy, run and fix and there’s thousands on the road to choose from. Even models with air conditioning and CD players can be had for under a grand, but keep an eye out for rust under the sills, behind the bumpers and around the fuel filler cap. And buy the latest one you can afford.
Fiat Cinquecento – from £400 Made famous by TV show The Inbetweeners, this little city car wasn’t Simon’s motor of choice without good reason. It’s extremely cheap to run and insurance won’t be too painful either. Don’t expect much in the way of equipment and remember these Fiats can be a little unreliable, so budget for repairs.
Citroen C1 – from £2,700 This Citroen is the sister car of the Peugeot 107 and Toyota Aygo – not much changes apart from the badge. It’s good to drive and being relatively new it’s one of the safest options. However, insurance will be a bit more expensive than others and you’ll be hard pressed to find one with air con. Fuel economy will make up for the lack of equipment, but they are still pricey.
Toyota Yaris – from £750 One of the most bulletproof models if you want to avoid running repairs, a Yaris is a sensible choice. They’re roomy inside and if you can stretch to a diesel variant, trips to fuel stations will be relatively infrequent. Insurance costs are surprisingly affordable and it’s a safe option, but prices can reflect that.
Peugeot 106 – from £300 They can be picked up for next to nothing and with a choice of
engines and trims to suit most budgets, a 106 is a tempting option. Most are a bit basic, but they’re entertaining to drive and
reasonably affordable to insure. However, they’re not known for
their reliability so try and buy one with service history and have
it checked over before handing over your cash.
Finally, a couple of tips if you’re buying your first car: Always take someone with
you who knows what they’re looking at, even – and don’t laugh – if that means your parents. Have the car checked over by a mechanic too – it’s often worth half an hour’s labour in a ga-
rage to save you big bills. And for more expensive cars fork out for an HPI check to ensure it’s
not stolen (or ask your Gran to pay for it). Happy hunting!

No matter how cold it is outside, there are plenty of ways to stay toasty this winter - but before you go shopping, it’s important to know what’s available and what will work best for you.
The Heat is onThe Heat is on
O ne of the simplest ways to heat a room is an elec-
tric heater. These come in three flavours: fan heaters such as the Dimplex DXGLO2, which blow air over a heating element to blast you with warm air; convection heaters such as the Delonghi HCM2020, which have less powerful fans (or no fan at all) and waft rather than blast warm air; and oil heaters such as the Pifco PE136, which are filled with oil that’s heated to create an effect very like a traditional central heating radiator.
There are several advan-tages to such radiators: they’re portable, they’re very cheap to buy and they’re widely available. However, some are so low-powered they’re effectively useless. A 400W panel heater will struggle to keep even a small room warm and if you buy one without a timer you’ll have to re-member to turn it on/off manually. Many models do include integrated timers, but be careful if you’re put-ting one near a bed: the timer mechanisms can be noisy. For bedtime, an elec-tric blanket may be a better choice: even at their peak they only draw several hun-
dred watts of energy.
Fan heaters can be ex-tremely noisy, and heaters of all kinds can be expensive to run: at the time of writing, the cost of running a 2kW heater on our current electricity tariff would be 22p-52p per hour. Over a long winter that soon adds up, so it’s impor-tant to use the right size of heater for your room and to cut the thermostat so you’re not using more energy than you need. The same applies to gas heaters: check the heater’s energy use in kilo-watts - a 4.2 kilowatt gas heater will go through four times more gas than a 1 kilowatt model.
One way to cut the cost of energy is to avoid heating things that don’t need heated. Traditional heaters heat the air in an entire room, so you’re ef-fectively paying to heat bits where you aren’t sitting. That’s not really a problem inside your house, but if you want to be toasty while you’re working in the ga-rage or any other large, open area you don’t want to spend money heating the entire room. For more se-
lective heating jobs, infra-red heaters such as Dim-plex’s IRX50n are a better
idea - although they heat a very narrow area, so positioning is crucial. Such heaters only heat
what they’re pointing at, not the air around them, so they can potentially save money but if you’re outside their effective range, you don’t get any heat at all. Once again wattage is cru-cial here: a 500W model will be fine for a working area, but larger spaces will re-quire more powerful heat-ing.
Another option is to beef up the heating you already have. A radiator booster can cut a few hundred pounds from your electricity bill, and it’s a
deceptively simple bit of kit: a long fan sits on top of your radiator and circulates the warming air through your room. That means the room feels warmer faster, and you can turn off the heating more quickly. They cost £19.99 from USwitch.com, who say the booster will cost “around 13p for 500 hours use.”

The East Neuk Boat Club is a fledgling club established by a large group of berth holders, boat & yacht owners at Anstruther Harbour in July 2011. The aim of the club is to create a welcoming, sociable & fun environment for those involved and to attract mem-bers in all walks of life from the wider community.
In the coming months and well into 2012 the club will be planning and scheduling various calendar events to include the monthly meeting which is open to members & non members alike. Also on the agenda are seasonal cele-brations, short seafaring days, overnight and weekend trips, fishing trips, yacht rac-
ing, participation in boating & yachting courses, partici-pation in local festivals, race nights, BBQs & similar club events.
East Neuk Boat Club rec-ognise that creation of a real community spirit stems from the individuals who are & will become involved in the club and the wealth of experience and ideas they bring. In cre-ating a comfortable environ-ment to encourage open participation of all indvidu-als, the club hopes to attract a wide diversity of people.
East Neuk Boat Club infor-mation is easily accessed via the club website found at www.eastneukboatclub.co.ukwhere individuals can view
photographs and gen-eral information or create a personal username & pass-word to join the club. In ad-dition the club can be found on Facebook when searching for 'East Neuk Boat Club'. General email enquir-ies can be sent to [email protected].

If you’re worried that real trees are not good for the planet, don’t forget that a British grown tree is most definitely not an ecological disaster zone – if you think about it, they’re a crop plant rather like a field of wheat except that they are generally given less fertiliser and fewer chemicals than many more run of the mill crop plants. So go on, make sure you buy one this Christmas!
There are a few things you ought to think about before you buy your tree
The Norway spruce (Picea abies) is the traditional tree, my favourite but perhaps not a favourite if you are more house proud. It has gorgeous dark green pointed needles and that unmistakable aroma but sadly it is the most likely to drop its needles. Having said that, if you treat it well, it won’t perform that badly and you can enjoy the lowest cost of the real trees.
The Scots pine is now a regular option as a Christmas tree, with its long paired blue-green
needles it’s quite distinctive. The needles are fairly densely packed on the branches and they also hold quite well.
The Nordman fir (Abies nordmanniana) has become increasingly popular in recent years, with its shiny green needles being almost impossible to shift.
The Fraser fir (Abies fraseri) is less regularly available, but the combination of its good looks and needle holding capacity make it well worth considering.
So, you’ve been persuaded to take the plunge. But how do you make sure you buy the best tree of the type you’ve decided on? And how do you help it keep its needles and its gorgeous appearance for as long as possible? It’s important not to buy a real tree too early as the longer they hang around after they’ve been cut, the more likely they are to go downhill. Take a bit of time to choose the tree – check that it has a good, full shape and that its not too gappy or lop-sided. Check the needles - they need to be glossy
(for those varieties where this is a characteristic) and the correct colour for the type of tree you’ve chosen. They also need to be free from pests and diseases - basically anything yellowed or inclined to shed, or with white fluffy bits should be avoided.
If you do buy one quite early then the most important thing is to keep it outside - just re-cut the end of the trunk and put the tree in a bucket of water in a sheltered spot outside. If it was in a net when you bought it, remove this as it’s important to have air circulating around the needles.
When you bring the tree inside, try to avoid putting it anywhere too warm or close to a heat source and make sure that you use a stand with a water reservoir with water levels really well topped up – if kept well supplied with water then even the notorious (but lovely) Norway spruce Christmas tree should hold its needles well. www.pippagreenwood.com
A Real Proper A Real Proper Christmas TreeChristmas Tree
I have to admit it: I LOVE Christmas… and if there is one part of it I’d hate to do without, it’s a Christmas tree. No, I don’t mean a tinsley one or trendy black or brown one… I mean a tree complete with needles and ideally that wonderful aroma that only a real, proper Christmas tree can bring.

M any have com-plained that I don't under-
stand that husbands and wives have an equal re-sponsibility in keeping the home working. YES, I do know this. But unless your husband or wife is a part of our group, I can't help them. I can only help you. I don't expect you to do it all, but you can and many have. What about the sin-gle mums or widows that have to do it all by them-selves? They don't have husbands to help. They have to take care of the whole home alone. Oh and I almost forgot the mem-bers, whose spouse is in the military and away from home for months at a time; Also the spouses that have to travel a lot with their jobs. The spouse left be-hind has the responsibility for the entire home on their shoulders.
What I have noticed, is
that when the member of our group, albeit the hus-band or the wife, gets their routines in place and the clutter in the home is de-creased, that they have found that the other spouse comes around and starts to help, so do the children. They start to
clean up their "off limits" HOT SPOTS! You know the ones that if you even touch, will get you in HOT WATER!
Marriage is not a 50/50
proposition, as many of you think. I believe that this perception is hurting many families. Here is why. When we feel we are doing our half of the work, we automatically feel slighted because we don't feel our mate is doing his or her fair share. So we pout, fuss, or even go on strike. This is so silly.
Marriage is a 100%/100%
proposition; Each person giving their all to the fam-ily. When you do all that you can, you have done your best. When you sit at the computer all day, don't get dressed, and don't hit a lick at a snake(Southern for just do something), you are not spending your time wisely. All because your perception is, "Why should I clean up, it is just going to get messed up again!" or "He won't even help, this isn't my entire job! If he won't help then it can just stay this way, I didn't make the mess, so why should I clean it!"
There are many reasons our members do not get up and move. Most are just excuses. We all have the same number of hours in each day. Even members with several children are seeing progress. There are members with sickness that are doing well and there are members that work, either at home or away from home, that are seeing great progress.
So what is your excuse?
Are you sitting pouting 'cause your spouse does not do his or her fair share? You can only change your-self and your own attitude. Get the speck out of your eye first. We don’t give you permission to declutter your husband or wives things. Quit nagging and set the example by taking care of your own clutter first. As you set the exam-ple, by getting your HOT SPOTS clean, you are going to be so surprised at the changes in your family. Are you ready to FLY?
Not a 50/50 Proposition - Several years ago when I began to mentor women on the internet I wanted to help them gain con-trol of their homes and lives. My mentoring was not to teach them how to nag their husbands to help them around the house.
