Your face makes or breaks that firstimpression, it covers and expresses awide range of emotions throughout theday, gives and receives kisses from yourloved ones, and is the centerpiece ofevery picture on your profile. Consider-ing all of these things, how do you feelabout your face, specifically your skin? While many of us spend time pamper-ing our toes with pedicures, and ourbacks with massages, why do we forgetto take care of the part that representsus most? As we age, it shows in ourfaces. That means that those little lines, spots and wrinkles are only going toget deeper and darker unless we dosomething about it!

Let’s Face It Skin Care is locatedat 30669 U.S. 19 in Palm Harbor, in-side the My Salon Suite, and is ownedby Kristin Fox, a Licensed Esthetician.Let’s Face It Skin Care offers treat-ments that get results for many com-mon skin concerns including agingskin, acne, hyper-pigmentation, sun-damaged skin and sensitive skin. Kristinsays, “I offer results-oriented skin care

treatment in a relaxed and calm envi-ronment.”

Let’s Face It Skin Care is locatedin Suite 308 inside the My Salon Suitein Palm Harbor; here, Kristin has cre-ated a space that is welcoming, calmingand peaceful. Kristin knows that every-one’s skin is different, and she takes thetime to talk at length with her clients(during their complimentary consulta-tion) about the concerns that they mayhave. While some are concerned withsunspots and acne, others are con-cerned with minimizing wrinkles andexfoliation. Whatever your concernsare, Kristin is ready to provide a solu-tion that will have you looking andfeeling your very best.

She says, “I treat each clientuniquely and educate them on the besttreatment and daily care products fortheir specific skin care needs. I canteach them how to better use the prod-ucts they have, or I can introduce themto the products that I use, called PCASkin, which has been an industry leaderfor 25 years.”

The truth is, most women have adrawer full of skin products that don’t

work, and instead spend valuable timeand money working to hide their skin’simperfections with foundation andmakeup products that often only coverup the problem! Or, what’s worse, theyuse products that are harsh on theirskin. At Let’s Face It Skin Care, Kristinindividually customizes a skincare treat-ment program that’s as unique as youare, but more than that, she only usesproducts and treatments that are safefor your skin. The best part is that hertreatments are all so thoroughly relax-ing and peaceful that many of herclients fall asleep!

Client Jessica Lenore Ozer said, “Ihad an amazingly relaxing, enrichingand informative appointment withKristin yesterday. She’s not only a pro-fessional skincare expert but she has un-believable treatments that are veryaffordable and products to match! Iwas given a hydrating facial with an ex-foliation customized specifically for myskin type and goals. It was educational, wonderful, and everyone should maketime to do this for themselves!”

Facials that Sooth, Soften and Rejuvenate!

In addition to amazing facials,Let’s Face It Skin Care also offers Mi-crocurrent Facials, often called a Natu-ral Facelift. It’s a fantastic alternative toinjections that combines microcurrent

technology and plant stem cell serumsto “stimulate the bio-chemicalprocesses that are necessary to producehealthy, radiant, youthful skin.” This60-minute treatment is like a workoutfor your face and helps to revitalizeyour skin, lift, tone and tighten looseskin and jowl muscles, and of course di-minish wrinkles! Let’s Face It client Lauri Ravennashares her experience, stating, “Wehave all read or been told things thatsimply sound to good to be true. Welllet me tell you about The Natural FaceLift, this Microcurrent Facial is every-

thing Kristin told me, and more. Yes Iexpected to be relaxed, have glowingskin and maybe just maybe look a littlebetter when I left. What I did not ex-pect was to see younger looking eyesand defined cheekbones the next day!Yes the next day! Amazing experience,I will be back soon.”

Chemical Peels & Dermaplaning forGlowing, Youthful Skin!

Let’s Face It offers the ultimate inexfoliation treatments to help diminishage spots and wrinkles, bringing out ayouthful glow. “Dermaplaning is a safe, clinical exfoliating treatment that re-moves the outer layer of dead skin,” ex-plains Kristin. “It strengthens andthickens the epidermis, which thinsover time as we age. It treats fine linesand wrinkles to promote collagen andelastin production, helps with acne andacne scarring, brightens dull complex-ions and allows your skin to better ab-sorb daily products. Temporaryremoval of the vellus hair or ‘peachfuzz’ is an added benefit of dermaplan-ing, and is oftentimes the main goal forclients wanting this treatment.”

Today’s chemical peels are speciallyformulated for different types of skin, and are incredibly helpful for people whosuffer from rosacea, have sensitive skin orhave pigment disorders, sun damage andmore. Tobacco Free Florida has beenhelping people quit smoking since2006. But they don’t just help individ-uals quit; Tobacco Free Florida has awide variety of resources to help busi-nesses help their employees quit smok-ing. Their free “Benefits to QuitWorksite Toolkit” guides businessowners through the steps to help cre-ate a tobacco free workplace. Whenemployers help their employees quitsmoking it creates a healthier work-place and also has a positive effect onthe business’ profitability. Each em-ployee that becomes tobacco free re-duces the health care costs for abusiness and increases overall produc-tivity.

When Employees Use Tobacco,

Your Profits Go Up in Smoke: Ac-cording to Tobacco Free Florida, re-cent studies of the private-sector in theUnited States have suggested that em-ployees who smoke cost businesses, onaverage, more than $6,000 per yearwhen compared to non-smoking em-ployees. This cost to Florida businessescomes primarily in the form of in-creased health care costs and produc-tivity losses.

On average, health care costs foryour employees who smoke are up to34 percent higher than the cost forthose who do not use tobacco. Everyemployee who smokes can cost yourbusiness an extra $2,056 a year inmedical expenses. Additionally, underthe Affordable Care Act, insurerscould be able to charge up to 50 per-cent higher premiums for tobacco

users, which may further impact yourbottom line.

Tobacco use is also the leadingcontributor to lost productive worktime. Florida businesses lose an aver-age of $4,056 per smoker every yearin lost productivity. Workers whosmoke at least one pack of cigarettes aday have 75 percent more lost produc-tive time than nonsmoking workers.Just three 15-minute smoke breaks aday add up to more than a week oflost time in just one year.

Employees Will Appreciate YourSupport: Most people want to quitsmoking, but it is incredibly hard todo so. The average person tries to quit8 to 11 times before they are success-ful. Many people feel like smoking isan addiction they cannot get rid of.But with the right help, resources, and

Medical Center of Trinity isproud to announce that it is one offour Tampa Bay Area hospitals to re-ceive Blue Cross and Blue Shields’designation as a Blue Distinction®Center+ for Maternity Care. In an ef-fort to help prospective parents findhospitals that deliver quality, afford-able maternity care, Florida Blue an-nounced that Brandon RegionalHospital, Citrus Memorial Hospital,Medical Center of Trinity and St. Pe-

tersburg General Hospital have beendesignated as some of the first hospi-tals to receive the Blue Distinction®Center+ for Maternity Care designa-tion, a new designation under theBlue Distinction Specialty Care pro-gram.

Nearly four million babies areborn in the U.S. annually, makingchildbirth the most common cause ofhospitalization. The new Blue Distinc-tion Centers+ for Maternity Care pro-

gram evaluates hospitals on severalquality measures, including the per-centage of newborns that fall into thecategory of early elective delivery, anongoing concern in the medical com-munity. Compared with babies born39 weeks or later, early term infantsface higher risks of infant death andrespiratory ailments such as respiratorydistress syndrome, pneumonia, andrespiratory failure, among other con-ditions. These babies also have ahigher rate of admission to Neonatal

Intensive Care Units. In addition, hospitals that receive

a Blue Distinction Center+ for Mater-nity Care designation have agreed tomeet requirements that align withprinciples that support evidence-basedpractices of care. This includes initiat-ing programs to promote successfulbreastfeeding as described in the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative by Baby-Friendly USA or the Mother-FriendlyHospital program by the Coalition forImproving Maternity Services (CIMS)through its “Ten Steps of Mother-Friendly Care.” The program alsoevaluates hospitals on overall patientsatisfaction, including a willingness torecommend the hospital to others.

Blue Distinction Centers+ forMaternity Care, an expansion of thenational Blue Distinction SpecialtyCare program, include hospitals rec-ognized for delivering quality, afford-able specialty care safely and effectivelybased on objective measures devel-oped with input from the medicalcommunity. To receive a Blue Distinc-tion Centers+ for Maternity Care des-ignation, a hospital must also meetrequirements for cost efficiency.

have recognized more than 650 hospi-tals as Blue Distinction Centers+ forMaternity Care. Hospitals recognizedfor these designations were assessedusing a combination of publicly avail-able quality information and costmeasures derived from BCBS compa-nies’ medical claims.

Since 2006, the Blue DistinctionSpecialty Care program has helped pa-tients find quality providers for theirspecialty care needs in the areas ofbariatric surgery, cardiac care, complexand rare cancers, knee and hip replace-ments, spine surgery and transplants.Research shows that, compared toother facilities, those designated asBlue Distinction Centers demonstratebetter quality and improved outcomesfor patients. Dr. Wayne Adams

SURPRISES IN THE NEWSAT EXAM: Now that the first NewSAT Exam has been taken by studentson March 5th, here are a few of themajor surprises that students’ encoun-tered.

1. Reading Section: almost half ofthe answers were what I call “terribletwo’s” and vocab in context. Terribletwos are where the first question usu-ally requires an inference, purpose, orsuggestion answer, and the next ques-tion requires the student to select apart of a passage that is the best reasonfor the first answer. In other words, usually if you miss the first question, you miss the second. Vocab in contextis where the exam gives a word in aline, and asks for another word that in-terprets or better fits in that context.

2. Writing Section: About half ofthe answers were either “grammarerror recognition” (commas, verbs, and pronouns) or sequencing. The

surprises about sequencing (words, phrases, sentences, and paragraphs)were the number of questions in thiscategory and the range of logicalthinking required.

3. Math Section: About half of allquestions are from Algebra, with manyof these being “long sentence ques-tions” from 7 to 15 lines long requir-ing a student to write an equation orto write an equation or perform someother calculation and then to solve it.The second math section (with calcu-lator) is particularly loaded with verylong sentence questions that require agreat deal of interpretation and focusfor a student to answer correctly. Youmay also be surprised that I considerthe math test with no calculator tocontain more difficult questions thanthe math with calculator section, partly because our students have be-come so dependent on calculators inmath.

4. Importance of the Essay. Thenew Essay is a combination of arhetorical and an analysis essay from

AP Language and Composition andfar more difficult than the old Essay.One-third of the composite Writingand Language score is now the Essay. This is enough to make the differencein a school admitting a student or notbased on relative SAT scores. As a re-sult, I have made major additions tomy SAT Prep Class tutoring. First, Ihave created new, proprietary hand-outs based on an extensive analysis ofthe types of questions asked in eachtest section and sub-section, and ontheir frequency. Second, I have addeda 3-hour class focusing only on theEssay since it has become so muchmore important. This class includesmany elements of writing and key defi-nitions normally be found in AP Lan-guage and Composition classes.

ACT EXAM SHIFT One surprise resulting from the

New SAT Exam is that many of mystudents are now focusing on prepar-ing for the ACT Exam first. This exam

is known and trusted by college ad-mission officers, and almost all collegeswill not require two SAT Subject Testsas they do if a student applies with anSAT Exam.

SPRING AND SUMMERPREP CLASSES: There is still timefor me to tutor students for the re-maining SAT and two ACT Examsthis spring. The last exam dates areSAT on June 4th, and ACT on June11th. I tutor over the summer, with asurprising number of students and par-ents preferring summer tutoring sothe student can focus on preparationwithout the normal pressures of dur-ing a school year. In this case, we pre-pare for the first SAT and ACT examsin the fall. Often, rising juniors use thistime to prepare for both the SAT andthe PSAT at the same time.

ther with me about my SAT PrepClass, ACT Prep Class, and/or my

She hadPam go out and look at a home onthe market with a large window thatwas bare. Looking at the space, which had a gorgeous open backyardand a nice tall privacy fence, Pamrecommended doing nothing andleaving the window bare to fully em-brace the view. Melody had thoughtexactly the same thing but wantedPam’s opinion. Hearing an honest

It’s important to Pam to helpclients find what is right for them –even if it means telling them to wait.

She explains that there are timeswhen she can see that a client isn’tquite ready to make a decision. Shesays, “I’ll tell them that it is okay towait.” Every few months, new fabricscome out so if you don’t find thelook you want the first time you visit,go back later and see what’s new!
