Reconstruction Project Continues FDR- Bowery Project # HWMP – 2019
The New York City Department of Design and
Construction (NYCDDC) is managing a capital
construction project (HWMP2019) along East Houston
Street between Bowery and the FDR Drive. The DDC is
reconstructing/replacing combined sewers, trunk
main, water mains, catch basins, fire hydrants,
sidewalks, trees, as well as, a ‘Green Street’ park
area. This project is anticipated to be completed by,
mid-year, 2015.
WORK SCHEDULE: January / February 2014
1.Contractor to Excavate and install a 36” Valve and
chamber on East Houston Street at Essex Street.
2.Installation of 20” Distribution water main South of East
Houston Street between Allen Street and Chrystie
Street.
3.Weekend work on going at the Bowery and East
Houston Street
4.Avenue D/2nd Street GreenStreet park area ready for
the new pavers, benches, trees, ground cover and
shrub plantings
WORK COMPLETED TO DATE:
E. Houston Street between Norfolk Street and the FDR
1.Installation of new pigmented sidewalks and granite
curb with traffic calming curb extension.
2.Roadway restoration, paving & striping.
3.New pedestrian safety refuge area
4.Planting of approximately 300 shrubs in the medians
from the FDR to Avenue D
5.Approximately 48 trees have been planted in the
sidewalk areas and in the medians
