INTRODUCTION

Wold Architects and Engineers is pleased to submit to the Board of Education of Independent School District #15 the

Design Development Submittal for the East Bethel Elementary School Additions and Renovations project. We wish to

thank the Core Planning Group, District Focus Teams and the School District's Administration and Staff for the

exhaustive efforts in providing the Design Team with the information necessary to advance to this state of development

in a timely fashion.

The Design Team is commencing the Construction Documents phase of this project. This report has been prepared to

update the Board of Education. Thank you for your consideration of this design presentation.

District Wide

A. Each building should have one secure entry (with a consistent entry sequence).

B. Lockers will be located inside the classrooms to allow for increased visibility and circulation, as well as potential

adjacent collaboration areas.

C. There should be a separation between parent drop-off and buses.

Criteria

A. Building Wide

• A high-level of visibility should be present throughout the building, using glass, for optimal supervision.

• Maximize use of daylight throughout the building, especially in classrooms.

• A variety of less institutional flooring options should be used, including carpet tiles, faux wood, etc.

• Classroom storage should be accommodated through built-in casework.

B. Administration

• Office should have increased and direct visibility to entry and parking.

• Office should have more storage than currently exists.

• Office should have a staff bathroom (separate from nurse bathroom).

• There should be a built-in lost and found storage space.

C. Common Areas

• The community space should include a space for sitting and waiting

• The interior front enty should have an identity wall (common to District branding) and "wow" factor.

• Spaces for community use are as follows:

1. Gym

2. Cafeteria

3. Bathrooms

4. Conference Room

5. One (1) room for optional use

• Cafeteria should feel and be visually and physically open to common space.

D. Classrooms

• The classrooms should be organized by grades, in four (4) classroom pods with adjacent breakout space.

• The staff lounge should be centrally located to the classrooms.

• Classroom doors should be near eachother.

• Media/tech suite spaces should be flexible, with the ability to open / close the space using operable walls or

other devices.

• Kids Connection should have its own space with adequate storage.

• Kids Connection should be located near an entry / exit.

• Classrooms should include dimmable lights.
