Family & Youth Services Center

Opens for Business

Sheriff Gautreaux cut the ribbon at the grand opening of the new Family and Youth Service Center on Government Blvd. The purpose of the center is to address the needs of truant stu-dents by assessing the causes and providing the resources and services in one location to meet those needs. “The first indicator of a potential life of crime is often truant behavior,” FYSC Director Roxon Welch said. “We hope that by working with the students to identify their needs, and working with their families, we can help these children to be successful in school and ultimately be a productive part of our community.” The East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office will house School Drug Task Force, D.A.R.E. and Crime Victim’s Assistance at the center.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and Sheriff Gautreaux is asking everyone to take the time to reflect on how they can either help themselves or a loved one stay healthy. EBRSO will host a Breast Cancer 101 class taught by the Baton Rouge Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for

the Cure® for interested deputies on October 17th at noon at the EBRSO Training Facility

(email to follow with more details). The Sheriff is also encouraging deputies to show their support by wearing a pink ribbon to

work during the month of October. Ribbons will be available through supervisors next week. Let’s work together and support the cause!
